Just as the title says......
I got this phone in December after hearing nothing but good reviews about it and HTC Sense looks really good. I have had Nokia phones ever since the Nokia 3210 but after some problems with my last 2 Nokia's, i thought i would leave them and move to HTC.
To start with i use my phone a lot for listening to music but the music player is riduculous. It keeps stopping during songs, and sometimes the phone restarts itself when this happens. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for the song to play after selecting it.
Secondly, the text messaging application is a complete joke. I can send a text message to say my wife and she will not receive the message for a good coupls of hours or even sometimes, the next day. I have spoken to my service provider and they tell me that the message is taking 5 SECONDS to get from my phone to the recipent. That's when the phone actually decides to send the message.
Thirdly, typing on the keyboard is riduculous. Random letters are activated without me even pressing those keys. I can press, say, 'k' and some random letter in the middle of the keyboard is activated. This make typing a text message so so frustrating and annoying.
Lastly, i keep loosing the signal, therefore i cannot make a phone call, send a text or even browse the web. The signal indicator at the top of the screen has little dots where it indicates that it is looking for a signal and my operator text dissappears.
Other than these problems the phone is ok but i have sent the device to HTC twice now and it has come back exactly the same. The first time they said that they re-connected some connector inside the phone and the second time, they said that they reflashed the device due to some error messages.
I can honestly say that i regret making the move to the HTC HD2 and i am dissappointed because it had such good reviews. What can i do...go back to Nokia??

Hi Guys,
I have upgraded my phone to Rom 1.66 from the HTC website when it was released
you can try using a cooked ROM from this great forum and you will find that the great chefs here make better roms and most little annoyances you mention are ironed out.
using a cooked rom also makes you relize what a brilliant device the HD2 is compared to a Nokia!!!!!!

right, why do you hspl your device anyways if you're using stock roms?
ive got the telstra version in australia and dont have any of those problems with messaging or music playback etc. as far as i am concerned, it is an excellent phone. i have not upgraded the roms or anything. it is exactly as it was from telstra. as far as the signal thing goes, that is probably due to your carrier. regarding the keyboard, turn on the xt9 predictive text thing on the keyboard. trust me when i say it works. i was having difficulty with the keyboard due to having a touch pro as my previous phone that had a physical keyboard. the xt9 takes care of this problem. it does take a little getting used to especially if you are like me and learnt to touch type, but i find it easy to use now. dont give up on it just yet, they are as good as they look.

dear friend
if i may suggest, you need to take a strong stand with the shop you bought this phone from or at least with HTC. Your handset is definitely defected in terms of hardware and any kind of ROM upgrade is not going to help you.
best of luck
o2-lover
Have to agree with O2 lover. Had my phone for about 5 weeks and was running stock ROM 1.43.206.4 for a few weeks before upgrading to a cooked ROM and I had none of those problems.
Take it back to the shop and insist on a replacement handset as there is something clearly wrong with yours.
I know 3 people all with HD2's running stock ROM's (earlier ones than the 1.66 version which you're running) and I've never heard of any of the problems you've encountered.
No amount of flashing cooked ROM's will solve your problems imo...
The HD2 indeed had all those problems which you mentioned. But most of them are fixed now.
If you want to try a Custom ROM I'd suggest Artemis. It seemed pretty stable to me.
Also install the Less Sensitivity patch for your Keyboard.
Yeah install HSPL and void your warranty as your phone wasn't working properly in the 1st place.
He clearly has a defective handset, great advice though guys lol
rom choice is just a personal preferance but i use dutty's from htc pedia. all the issues you mention are all found in this forum if you do a little digging around. and there are loads of info for you to find out.
the music part if i remember rightly is somthing with the memory card try format the sd card.
the messaging problem i had on stock rom also sent a text to my gf about 12 o'clock and she recieved it at 3 a few times but changing radio helped. that's with 3 networkin the uk.
as for the keyboard use XT9 as its so easy to use(just typed this whole message using my phone)
i really do not think its hardware related? i could be wrong.
moving from a nokia to a device like this is hard to figure out but in time it sill be easy.

using HSPL won't void your warranty as it can easily be removed!!!!
I've experienced the music pausing on the 1.66 ROM although your pausing seems worse than mine (my phone has never restarted during music playback). Have you tried using another music player like Pocket Player? The reception problems and text message delays are possibly related and most likely caused by poor reception in your area. In my experience, the antenna in the HD2 is pretty good and I can often get good reception in areas where other people get none.
All answered by previous posters.
In your specific case I would suggest you need to be 'connected to people', rather than being 'quietly brilliant'.
Certainly this forum had all the answers to all your concerns apart from losing signal.
Generally where a device receives a multitude of rave reviews, it justifies these various reviewer opinions. The HD2 is no exception!
Since listening to music is your main ambition, any reason why you haven't considered the iPhone.
I have the ipod touch which is gathering dust, but I do miss not having a volume slider and perhaps lyrics!
Before the HD2 my Boss bought me the nokia N97...the worst Phone ever made by nokia:
ridiculous hardware problems, touchscreen with no cinetic scroll ( we talk about 600 € for the phone, man!!!).
Try to google around with this key words: "n97 gps" or "n97 camera"...
So don't say us, nokia is better
Nokia loses the touchscreen smartphone war, that's all.
Cheers
I've had my HD2 since release, way before HSPL and custom ROMs were available. I've never had any of the issues you have experienced, so a hardware problem with your handset could be likely.
However, I would at least have a bash at upgrading to a custom ROM first before returning your handset. If it does not improve matters you can flash back to a stock rom, which removes HSPL, so warranty will not be voided. You can then try for a replacement handset knowing in your mind there is definately an issue with the handset itself.
As well as the 'Artemis' ROM that was suggested, I would also recommend 'Topix' or 'Energy' ROM variants. But rather than listening to other people, have a good read in the "HD2 ROM Development" forum section for yourself. Finding a ROM you are happy with is very much about personal preference. It would be worth trying a few any way. But beware, flashing gets very addictive!

I have the 8525 with WM6 installed. About 1 in 40 times, the End Call option doesn't display that the call ended (on my side). I attempt to still talk to the other person but I can't hear them, though. After about 2 minutes later, it finally ends the connection. I must do a soft reset to temporarily fix it; the only drawback is that the most previous call isn't shown as being made.
About 1 in 80 times, the call attempts to be made, but doesn't connect at all. I try to End Call, but it seems to "freeze" the screen. The "Close screen" seems to help, as in 30 seconds the device finally quits trying to connect.
Another thing I noticed, after the phone freezes, the antenna signal drops to zero and then returns to about 2 - 3 bars of signal, about 5 seconds later. I'm not sure if that is the cause of the phone hanging, or not. Is there any kind of software to resolve this issue? It's really annoying! Thanks for any help!
is that a cooked rom or official? what's your radio version and carrier?
I'm thinking u need a different radio verson...(u must have hardspl to flash another radio version)...
I got the 8525 as a reconditioned from AT&T about 3 weeks ago. It came with WM5, and I had the above calling issues back then too. I then was informed on the boards here to upgrade to WM6, which I downloaded from HTC, via the AT&T website link.
As for programs, I removed the AT&T "bloatware" via the hard reset trick. Later, I installed S2U2, HTC Streaming Media, HTweakC2.1b, and the PTTFix software. One other program on the 8525 is OCN8 -- for my iBlue 737 Bluetooth GPS device. There are no other files that I can recall, except maps, songs, internet .jpgs, and (camera) pictures/videos.
Settings:
ROM Version: 3.62.502.3
ROM Date: 10/11/07
Radio Version: 1.54.07.00
Protocol Version: 32.86u.7020.23H
I do appreciate and try to understand all of the replies that I receive, and I do try to respond within a timely manner. I understand that people are busy and may have other careers as well. However, the thing that makes me pull my hair out is when someone starts to assist my problem, then just ditches the thread after my reply, without so much as an "I'm sorry, but I'm not able to solve your problem" at the minimum! Normally, I give a 48 hour window for the helper or any more helpers to reply before I get frustrated, but it's been way past that timeframe now!
I've noticed that phenomenon on 3 of my prior posts, each are on different subjects. It seems that after the first reply, no one but the original helper responds! If that original helper is busy, or just forgets about the thread, then I'm screwed over.
Sorry to rant, but I tried looking all over the boards for the best Radio program. All I seem to find is best ROMs, but not really Radios. I've seen 2 other Radio programs in signatures, but I'm not sure what one would be best for my purposes. I've seen mention of 1.47.30 & 1.47.00.10 in some members' signatures, but I'm hesitant to just "trial and error" one, for fear it would damage my device. I currently have the WM6 default 1.54.07.00 version, but it freezes up on making some calls and more often on ending a current call.
Anyone else for ideas or opinions on what Radio program to use? Please back up your opinion with facts when possible. I am not an expert on the device, just a new user who is afraid to ruin my investment.
Much thanks to all who read this post and reply to it!
Hi, just saw your thread & did not know U were still hanging....
I would try radio 1.48.00.00 first, then 1.47.00.10 or 1.50.00.00 if necessary. Seem's a lot of at&t users liked 1.48 from what I noticed (don't forget hardspl - use mrvanx guide in the Mobile 6 forum section)...
Here's the 1.54 thread with pro's, con's, and 1.48 at&t comments...

Thanks for the reply! I will do the hardspl first, then try to install the 1.48.00.00 Radio. I'll report back with details in a day or two.
My current Image Version is 3.62.502.3, and I am attempting to update it to 3.54.255.3.
I keep having errors while trying to install Radio Version 1.48.00.10 to my 8525, after opening RUU_Inside.exe on my laptop. I've even tried to install it from my microSD card, but I get the tri-color screen instead of the white background with text screen, shown in the online example. The 8525 ActiveSyncs to the computer fine, and the screen shows:
"Updating the ROM image on your PDA phone ...
Please do not remove the USB connection from the PDA Phone or launch any program during the update process.
Remember the operation will take about 10 minutes."
As soon as the above grey box pops up, ActiveSync drops after that box appears, then I get the following message:
"Error [260]: CONNECTION"
I've installed Hard-SPL v.7 onto the 8525 already. Not that it seems to make a difference, I believe, but other programs that are on it include: WMXL 8525 Keyboard Fix, S2U2 1.16, Resco Explorer 2008, PTTFix, MunduRadio, & HTweakC 2.1,
not sure, but did a "search" for error 260 & seems to be your pc usb port:
(use xda google search for any questions)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368624
btw, u are using XP & not Vista on u'r pc.
My laptop has XP (Media Center Edition). I did a search as well, but it was dated back to 2007; I wondered if there was a newer fix than the one on that page, as it referenced the prior version of Hard-SPL. From the sounds of it, I have to install WM5 again, change the radio version (which was the only thing I need to adjust, as the voice calls have been a pain since day one), then reinstall all of my programs again.
I've heard people create ROMs. However, the radio settings can't be included in them . . . or am I off-base with that presumption? I am not that experienced to cook my own ROM, as I am still learning the nuances.
Well I broke down and went on AT&T's online chat. Sounds like there is no software to install to fix the issue. I hoped the radio version switch would help, but I couldn't get it to install! I guess it's back to the Replacement Depot on Sunday. I should return my device to WM5, which I hope to find the thread for on the board.
If interested, here's the key parts of the conversation:
Me: Hi, my 8525 is giving me trouble making and ending calls. It sometimes hangs, and doesn't quit trying to place the call. Once I reset it, it's fine until I try to end the call, it hangs up the call, but not showing so on my side
AT&T: Can you try hard shocking the phone for me please? A hard shock is taking the battery out while the phone is still powered on, and then power the phone back on once the battery is back in the phone.
Me: I received it as a reconditioned from the AT&T depot in Pittsburgh, PA. About 20 minutes later, it did the same thing, so I upgraded to WM6 and still the same issues
AT&T: If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Is that a common issue?
AT&T: Sometimes it is with at reconditioned phone.
. . .
AT&T does not have an update for the Windows Mobile 6 at this time. However you may check out HTC website at www.htcamerica.net/support/default.html and see if they have an update for this software for this phone.
Me: So it's the phone, not the software?
AT&T: Yes that is correct. There is a defect within the phone that is causing these issues. If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Are you able to explain what causes it that the Device Center doesn't catch it
AT&T: I am not sure what causes this issue.
Me: Like should there be anything done to prevent that from happening?
AT&T: It is hard to tell with reconditioned phones. It may be something that can be fixed and it may not. If the hard shock does not fix this issue and the Device Support cannot, then you will be given another phone.

Ok, your signature is looking good and that is some conversation with good old at&t...bla bla bla
To answer your question above, the chefs cooked roms do not include radio (because everyone around the world uses a different one). But, the Official WM6 rom's do (posted wiki & wm 6 section). So, why don't u flash the official wm6 since u have hardspl now? This in itself may resolve u'r issue (if u don't get the driver pc 260 error)! why would u want to flash wm5?
I was going to return my 8525 to the Service Depot where I got it, is why I mentioned returning it back to WM5 status. However, I wanted to see if it could be fixed by software first, but considering the above online AT&T chat, I am definitely going to get it replaced again. So, I want the 8525 to not show my "3rd party software" to ruin the warranty. I had the 8525 to individually remove the CABs under Remove Programs, and then I did a Clear Memory to default for good measure. Hopefully the Service Depot won't say anything about the device being altered that way.
Oh yea, I am going to get it replaced on Thursday. I will try to get them to give me a new one, not a reconditioned. That is, if there are even any new ones around anymore! It'd be a miracle if they gave me a new 8925 Tilt instead . . . lol I know -- keep dreaming! Wish me luck with a new 8525 though!
Well, I exchanged my current 8525 for another reconditioned one. The repair guy actually asked if I heard of the xda website (for help with my device!), lol!! He didn't go into detail about what this site does, just asked if I heard about it, and I affirmed that I did. Possibly he found traces of programs that changed settings, but he didn't rat me out. He sounded like he was confident that he fixed the phone dialing issues, but gave me a new one "just in case".
As soon as he gave it to me, it booted right up, without the calibration screen. He flat out told me to calibrate it, but it didn't appear. I was trying to see if it would act up with the dialing again, but noticed it didn't save the numbers on my SIM! I then decided to get rid of the bloatware via the Clear Programs and that lead to the calibration screen, finally.
So far it seems to work fine! I made about 6 calls this time and they seem to end properly. There is a slight 30 second or so delay when I press the button with the "red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
Oh, I've only loaded up S2u2 so far. I will reinsert the others onto my memory card today sometime before work.
Again, so far so good! Only real issue I see is that the ringer volume is very low when the device is in the carrying case I have it in. I will search on here for a ringer volume changer, soon!
Glad U were able to get another phone!
"red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
No, should end in a few seconds...doesn't seem it's even assigned to the phone (U can use Schaps Advanced Config tool to do this and many more good tweeks).

The "end call" does it's job, just that the screen is dim then it takes like 30 seconds to brighten again to show that the call is ended. Possibly it's something I have set up wrong. I notice the blue backlight for the keypad doesn't light up until a minute of my typing on it for a text; it's like a delayed reaction.
(I have the unlimited text/pix/vid plan, as of this past Thursday.) A bit off-topic, but are the Yahoo, AOL, & MSN IM programs considered a text or do they use kilobytes of data? I could use the programs over the Wi-Fi if I had to, but I don't want to pay extra for data kilobytes.
Lastly, I have never downloaded the Schaps Configuration. What all settings should I change? I know it's mostly based on personal preference, but what are some common alterations using it? For instance, I set the alarm to wake up to, but it's only a short beep sound. If I really was sleepy, I would probably sleep right through it! Does this program (or any others) configure any song on my device to be the alarm? I've already done that to the ringtone (where the first 30 seconds of any song is my ringtone).

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/11/12/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-review/
"On an annoyingly frequent basis, we found the "OK" button and hard "Exit" trigger to do absolutely nothing for 5, 10, even 20 seconds. Eventually, everything would catch back up and we could resume whatever it was that we were trying to do in the first place, but the frequent and debilitating lag when switching applications, screen orientation, folders or e-mail accounts was downright pestiferous. After awhile, it would often get to the point where a hard reboot was the only option left for getting the system back to its speedy self."
Does any of you noticed same issues, caus I think that´s quite unacceptable
Not seen this issue at all on mine.
yup.. experienced just the same thing engadget mentioned..... the device sometimes will hang up for like 10 seconds out of the blue. No matter what button I press... and then it will become responsive again..... so strange
Never even remotely seen this problem and i've been beating the living crap out of my xperia.
never seem this problem on mine. Are they using the prototype version?
Yes, has the same problem. It hang for say 5 seconds and then resume to normal afterward. Happened about 2 times everyday...

i've not experienced this on my X1 (which is my office workhorse), but I did experience this all the ^^#$%&^@%#% time on my Omnia.
The only time I experience any lag by pressing the ok or x button is right after I change orientation. It lags for about 1 second... not really that big of a deal imo, and if you're not switching between landscape and portrait all the time it won't lag at all
Wow, have not had this on mine, thought Engadget just had a bad one, but I see a few others have had it...
I get it now and again
Never seen this... I have a Swedish X1i.
Maybe it would be a good idea for previous and future posters to add which country they bought X1 in.
Maybe it's more frequent on certain roms.

Hmm could it be worth returning the device? How did you do to get yours changed? I bought mine from elgiganten but Im afraid they'd just send it to service
I have noticed this problem, I have also noticed this problem when ending a call, I press the 'End Call' button and it takes a while to hang up, perhaps even so long to hang up that the other party has already hung up and it ends the call.
Its quite amusing as my friend also has an X1 and sometimes we finish the conversation press 'End Call' and we can both still hear each other for a few second after the call!!!
Mmm mmm yes highly amusing...
not a device issue indeed, is a ROM issues.
and could be caused by some 3rd party software as well..
Maybe just all the device I have been using is slow or laggy, but all the smartphone I have used always have some kind of lags here and there randomly.
That includes:
iMate JASJAM (both WM5 and WM6)
dopod c730
Samsung Blackjack
Nokia N95
HTC touch dual
Palm Treo 750 (I think I got a lemon? this was the worst device I have experienced)
sorry to bring this thread up I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced this on theres. I have been using my s740 as a everyday phone and I am currently on holiday over the christmas period. My brother says this is happening to him a few times a day.
He said he would be playing a game or just browsing through the system, and the phone will freeze up for a few seconds 2-5 seconds sometimes more and then things will kick in again. Very strange but I see a few weeks ago HTC released a patch for the HD.
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocke...release-fix-for-touch-hd-periodic-freeze-bug/
I am now thinking it is a software fault effecting some users just my thoughts.
Should my brother return the phone? Or just wait as it was a sim free version and he is within his 28 days returns policy.

Euh......., that has nothing to do with the issue explained by engadget (which i, by the way, NEVER had on my device, and i am a power-user to say the least).
Use Advanced Config to edit the 'delay end call' funtion, stock its on 3000 miliseconds, which is ofcourse way too long.
I experience a similar lag quite often in pocket artist, not so much in other places.
I get ~4 seconds of lag every so often. It is quite annoying.
I am about to download and install the new .48 ROM, but what excatly did they fix?
Are people sending and recieving all sms'es and calls now?
Are the buggy volume control fixed?
What about the big waiting time when launching the messenger app with people who have a long sms-history?
As far as i am aware absolutely no issues whatsoever have been "fixed".
This "new" ROM is simply the latest version being shipped in worldwide devices.
The weekly calendar issue seems to be fixed.

I don't know what has been fixed and I can't comment on the problems you listed since I've never experienced them but I can tell you what works better for me:
1) the keyboard is much more accurate. I was reasonably happy with the keyboard on the last ROM but this one is much easier to use.
2) the proximity sensor now works every time I make or receive a call. This was a bit hit or miss for me with the last ROM and would fail more often than it worked.
3) Battery life seems much better. Again, I was pretty happy with this on the last ROM but it just seems to last a lot longer now. I had network issues today (nothing to do with the phone, it must have been a problem with 3 in London today because my 3G dongle was down as well) and was expecting my battery to die relatively quickly. However, despite this and the fact that I was playing with the phone more today (because of the new ROM) my battery is holding about 20% more than I would expect it to hold at this point in the day. I haven't bothered with the patch to turn off the data connection either so my phone should be doing more now.
I can't comment on much more. I experienced the new bug with the inbox and SenseUI but that was dealt with by locking the phone. I also had some trouble connecting to my Exchange server but that was dealt with with a couple of soft resets. Everything is generally going quite well.

I have installed the new 1.48 rom today.
and I don't think they fixed anything. I still got a red blob on my pictures. And I still wait up to 45 seconds for replying sms. When the sms-history is long.!!!
I've installed it today as well (dutch version). A pity that you 've to reinstall all apps. No prob for me, as I'm still try to explore the phone.
Anyway connecting, installing etc everything was flawless, even the link with Exchange.
hmm,.. well,.. no issues so far
I've flashed the .48 over my belgian HD2 yesterday using the goldcard approach, I've got to say that I've yet to see any real improvement or bugfixes,...
The lockscreen acted up for a while but then mended itself automagicly and has been a good boy since.
Opera seems more responsive but that could very well be just me fooling myself.
Same goes for the keyboard, I caught myself noting 'hey, this seems a bit more sturdy than before'. This can all be attributed to perception, though
It works and the itch to be up to date has been scratched.. all in all I'd recommend it.
where do i get this rom, offical site please
Is this an official ROM?
Where can this be downloaded? How do you flash it?
Get the ROM from links in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592954
Just installed it and personally think the touch screen is more accurate

Think or know, is it night & day better mate?
Hi
Can anyone tell me if they have kept all the software that was on 1.43, for example, ms office.
If someone can tell us what they have removed or added, that would be great.

I installed 1.48 last night and I think its night and day better than then old 1.43 rom.
Screen is less sensitive (which is good) because it makes the keyboard easier to use, less multiple key hits etc.. so you can actually type more accurately. I still get the odd moment where they keyboard appears to spaz out, but I think this is still down to accidentally breathing on the screen or looking at it in a funny way.. man that screen is so sensitive sometimes..
I also found that rotating and typing with both thumbs in landscape mode made for a very compelling typing experience because the keys are slightly larger and further apart which makes hitting multiple keys at the same time even harder to do.
Once you have used the device for a day or so (to build up its dictionary of words that you use alot) its becomes really very quick to rattle off very long texts.
Its still not quite perfect, but its a huge improvement over the previous rom.
Hello XDA Team,
Firstly, I want to say a huge thanks to the contributors of this forum as I've silently benefitted from your work over the past year on my previous phone, i900 Omina. Unsurprisingly I'm one of the many people who was tempted by the HD2 as it's effectively everything I always wished the Omnia would be - in principle.
So, I received my HD2 last Tuesday (direct from T-Mobile) and my number was ported from Vodafone on Thursday. After using the phone for a weekend I arranged an exchange as I believed my handset was faulty due to the crackling and resonating sounds from the earpeice. When I searched online I didn't find anyone with a similar complaint so I assumed mine was faulty. The replacement arrived on Tuesday and it's exactly the same, only this time the bottom row of buttons isn't a good a fit as on the first. Small issue that one and not really a deal breaker. A bit more searching and this time round I found the lists of post from people with the same sound quality complaints.
The issues I have with this phone are:
1) The crackling speaker - resonating to people's voices.
2) The SMS functionality, slow loading of messages and formatting bugs with the date stamp for one message overlapping the previous message in a thread, changing text size doesn't apply to every text in a thread.
3) The Contacts app freezes everytime I make a change to a contact, rendering the phone useless for about 30 seconds after each change. This includes when I add someone to the favourites list in Sense.
4)Random slow downs of Sense when hardly anything is running in the background (just Comm Manager)
5) The camera, even with the hotfix still has reddish/pinkish colouring to the middle of the picture
6) videos I recorded with the HD2 won't play on the HD2!!! Eh? What's going on there?????
Now I can accept software issues as I know these will be fixed eventually. My Omnia was a much better phone after a year of owning it than when it was first delivered almost solely down to ROM updates. However I am genuinely concerned that the speaker crackling is a hardware fault and not software, hence never going to improve.
Which brings me to my dilemma. I bought this phone from T-Mobile, which means I have a 7 working day period to return the phone and cancel my contract with no penalty. Today is the last day of that period, so I need to decide today whether to return the phone or to percevere.
I'll add a bit of balance to the dilemma by listing the things I love about the phone, which ultimately are the reasons which I would want to keep it if the issues could be fixed:
1) The screen the screen the screen!!!!!
2) Facebook integration with contacts
3) Great web browsing
4) Good music player & 3.5mm headphone jack
5) 3G, HSDPA and WiFi
6) WinMo so easy to sync with work Outlook and keep my Omnia contacts and SMS history.
7) Slim design, easy to pocket.
There you go, I have until the end of today to make my decision. I honestly don't know what I would replace the HD2 with IF I do decide to return it for good but 18 months if a long time to be using a phone which is supposed to be state of the art but stuggles with some of the fundamental jobs of a mobile phone.
Thanks for your time
DC.
Send it back.
I've had one now for over a month and it's great.
I don't have any of the problems you have.
I did have a slight pink tinge when I focussed at close range on a white sheet. But with the recent hotfix that is much improved. Anyway, I don't often photo white sheets !
I also don't video at all so tried your problem and I can confirm it's super simple to video and then playback (it's offered as an option after the recording is stopped).
I would send it back and ask for a new one and insist on an updated ROM.

I agree with sending it back as faulty. Say you want another two weeks (or however long it is) with the new one as this one has been so faulty you need to re-evaulate when you get the new one whether you want it or not.
As for insisting on an updated ROM, don't even think about saying that to your phone provider. None of them have updated ROMs yet, and probably won't for a long time. They're likely to wait until the majority of bugs are ironed out before going through the lengthy process of "updating" a ROM for their customers. Seriously - just ignore that advice. (No offense meant, Cheesy Dave)

Hi
Instead of writing here your complaints you should have read some of the threads explaining your problems. I advice you to backup your data then hard reset your device and reinstall your programs one by one and eliminate the program which is eating your HD2's memory. At least half of your problem will be gone after hard reset.
i am using HD2 for a month now and resolved 90% problems came with it.
Good Luck

Probably if you spoke to the local phone rep and said "ROM" they would be most confused !

I'm sure they'd advise you on a massive 32MB ROM SD card that you could put in and store all your music and video on.

Oh I've been reading the threads here non stop and have hard reset the phone three times since receiving it. The only programs I've installed are BSB tweaks and the YouTube app which T-Mobile has removed. Otherwise it's untouched.
My main issue is the crackling speaker, which if you read my post you'd see that I'm happy to wait to sort all the software issues out over time, but hardware issues are different.
My problem is that T-mobile will not do another exchange. They will only give me one chance to exchange then it's either cancel or keep. As I'm on my 2nd handset already, it means I have to make that decision today.
I know some of you hate to see posts from people who are considering ditching their HD2, but that's the reality. We exist. I'm an existing WinMo user too, not even one of the iphone brigade.
I can imagine the issues you're having are annoying and I must admit I've also experienced some of them.
1) Crackling: not a problem for me. I use a bluetooth headset (plus I'm a a bit deaf anyway) so I don't notice any crackling. Have you tried a headset? Any headset? Does it still occur or is the problem only from the external speaker and earpiece? I know others have complained about the volume but thought it was fixed in a newer ROM
2) Messages loading: yes, a real pain. Have you tried the workaround which is to click "Send" as soon as the messages start loading, then click "No" when prompted to send an empty message?
3) Contacts: I haven't had this problem, but then I haven't added users to any groups as they were already set up on my X1.
4) Random Slowdowns: yes, I must admit, this happens to me from time to time. Although you might think that nothing is running there are some processes that aren't visible by default that may be consuming the CPU's time.
I've been using Leo ROMs for quite a while now and if you think it's bad on the HD2 you should've tried it on the X1 to really appreciate the speed and stability of the Leo. OK, perhaps not an acceptable answer for you but some things you just have to put up with and blame not on the phone but the underlying OS (yes, Windows!!)
5) Camera: I've noticed the pink tint too even after installing the hotfix. Annoying, to say the least!
6) Camcorder playback: Works for me!!
The camcorder issue must be 1.43 T-Mob rom related. This new handset has the same problem as the 1st one. It will record video, but won't playback.
I also have annoying freezing when I try to do the simplest of tasks, like emptying the deleted messages folder in the SMS app, to the point where the back cover comes off and the reset button has to be pressed.
BUT, when it works properly I love this phone. I guess if I keep it I'll be flashing new ROMs like there's no tomorrow. Obviously I haven't done that yet as I can't risk breaking the warranty on a phone which I may return.
Get it on O2 and apply the hotfixes... seems to be the better rom
Sod it, I'm keeping the phone. There's nothing else on the market that interests me, and no reason to think that the hardware on the upcoming Nexus will be any better if it's also an HTC handset.
I've got an SD card primed with Goldcard and 1.61.....I'm not gonna take the plunge just yet, but I've read some of the positive feedback on the newer ROMs. Once I've given up on T-Mobile releasing a newer ROM, then I'll get flashing.

Good decision chap. Just take the time to apply the fixes and you should be there.
Cheers

It wouldn't surprise me if HTC haven't already got their sights on another ROM which has all hotfixes plus the one they are working on for the SMS fix that doesn't work, a hotfix to fix a hotfix lol.
Eventually they could even release android for it, why not? the hardware is what is keeping me glued to my phone, its ace. they owe it to us!
If it's O2 then you do get leeway (or used to) with regards to what you report as bugs and what they'll do or at least they used to.
When HTC Universal came out that was riddled with bugs and even the phone app didn't work properly (nearly put me off winmo phones for life, HD2 has been my first since) so anyway I called up after the 7 days said look I love the phone but these bugs are killing me. So they sent me another one which I tried and found the same bugs with, so they let me get a different model instead, and this was WAAAAY outside the usual 7 days because the phone was faulty. The 7 day rule is really there for if you get it and you just don't like it, not because it has issues, if it has issues then different more lenient policies apply.
My suggestion would be do the same tell them about the crackling etc and other bugs and get them to send you another, if it's still got the same issues then you've still got the option to swap.
Also without going into too much detail take your time sending yours back, you might find they'll let you keep hold of it for longer then you'd think
Hoi Pipeloi my fellow HD2 and other HTC owners
This is not just a poll its kind of a petition for the official SMS bug Fix
that HTC "wont" try to Fix...
The bug only shows up when you have 20+ smses of one or more contacts. Sense reloads these smses for no reason en slows down the device.
you can do a little trick for a faster load but that wil not help mutch : when you open contacts smses press send and there wil be a popup just press no and voila all smses are quickly reloaded...
Vote: Yes please HTC please...!
Vote: Pfff never mind... my next device will not be a HTC Phone...
Vote: I dont care...
If this Poll has over 1000 or more votes i wil send it to HTC
and lets see what thy gonna say then
Probably will do similar thread about HTC give everyone a free HD2 Device.
With the same result.

Just to clarify the only issue I have with SMS and writting in general is that damn ghosts typing where every button on the keypad randomly gets pressed. Even more annoying when you have swype!
Is this what you are referring to?
mine is ok, but I voted for those with issues

the fix we want is for when you gonna type a sms the prev smses are reloaded and therefor slowing down the reaction time of the keyboard..

I still join you in your pain though and voted.
Thanks for the link I'll check it out now
Yes indeed. I truly hope they are going to fix this SMS issue.
I voted yes and did call HTC about this problem and did mention to them that i am not the only one with this issue. They told me we don't care what message boards have to say lol
Well i hope they still do something about this

Ok thx -- its done
I'm not sure if this will help, but when I flashed the official O2 Rom 1.72.206.3 a few days ago, the sms delay problem seemed to have dissapeared. I tried two contacts that have threads of around 100 sms messages with no delay at all.
I'm using the new O2 ROM (1.72.206.3) aside from it being absolute CRAP the SMS issue still persists. Among other things, which are much more annoying, like the constantly skipping music (even with hot-fix), but nothing more annoying than my phone locking up and belching out its load ass ring-tone while vibrating it's self to pieces if I don't pick up fast enough, which obviously requires me to remove the battery, something I have to do at least once a day.
I'm still using a stock ROM because I'm debating my next move, which is likely to be that O2 are going to get this phone shoved up their ass.
I'm tired of this device, I'm also tired of watching my old iPhone 3G (which my wife now has) working flawlessly, like it did for me. I'm also still puzzled to why I made the decision to get a HTC HD2 when the iPhone 3GS would have solved all my gripes with the original iPhone 3G (being slightly slow).
Rant over!

Perhaps you've got a lemon Phil and you need to bring it back to O2. I'm using the same device with the same rom and the same hotfixes. I have zero lag on my sms messages no matter how long the thread and my music plays fine. I think your other problems may be down to settings and tweaks which is something WM users need to get used to (although most, like myself, enjoy the tweaking very much). My wife is happy with her iphone 3GS too, but I think the HD2 is far superior for my needs. I'm not trying to start an HD2/iphone debate, there are already too many on the forums, I'm just saying that given a propper device with the propper tweaks and mods, you've got one envyable phone there.
You guys who don't have this problem, what ROM and radio do you have?
