Hi all, i searched this forum a bit and found a little info about this but still not sure.
I bought HD2 last week and hardware buttons under the screen are moving little bit from left to right when i hold finger on them and wobble with them.. Is it only me or is it designed like that? Not sure, but if they are rock solid than i think it would not be possible to press each button correctly.
Hi. don't worry. mine has the same issue and reading around it seems to be aa characteristic of the HD2. the hardware buttons' bar IS NOT fixed but it moves a little bit.

Yes, it's fine. 6 months on and the wobble hasn't got any worse for me.

Just noticed that the keys the farthest right of the keyboard are little bit deeper (or sunk) that the ones on the left...but they response perfectly.
Are your unit the same ?

I have an HTC Tytn and my keyboard is not like that.
My T key has a big oval of paint scraped off of it, and the backlight shows through, seems the center of my keyboard had a hump in it.
If you can exchange it, I likely would.

Internally the Hermes has on one side of the keyboard (can't remember if this is shown on the wiki pictures) a foam rubber block running from the qwerty row down to the spacebar row. At the opposite end this is absent as internal parts make up the gap. It does not surprise me that there is some uneven-ness in external appearance though this should be very minimal. If your keyboard works perfectly I'd hang onto it given numerous reported problems with unresponsiveness of keys.
My keyboard if anything is a fraction higher in central area but not so high it scrapes on screen assembly.

Browsing from the pics, youre right, the left side has this foam block and the other side has none. That's why the keyboard is high on the left side and slowly sinking going to the right...(around half of millimeter..)
My unit is working perfectly, and I dont want to change it if the unit would be the same.... it might be the design ,...

Quite right would be a gamble. Was just about to guide you to pictures just as you replied saying you'd seen them!!

Dont know why you have a hump on the center part of your keyboard...your foam block might be in the center in your case ?
I also saw that the keyboard PCB is fixed by a clip on the right and a black thing on the left side...do you know what's this thing ?
so...there a way to "perfect it" by putting a slightly thinner foam on the right side to equalize the pressure...
Do you have a pic on how to do it ?
Is it correct that the 3G doesn't have any hardware buttons, except for the D-pad and the phone buttons ?
My HTC Prophet has 5 buttons to which I have mapped (AEButton+) a lot of handy features. I think I would really miss them...

Also I was wondering: does it have the same magnetic stylus as the Diamond ?
I've migrated from a Trinity which has lots of hardware buttons and yep I'm missing them. I don't like manilla/touchflow that much either; but I'm getting used to it.
Overall for me the better specs and the form factor of the 3G/Jade make it worth the learning curve. I've only had it for a couple of days and already the lack of extra buttons is starting to bug me less and less.

I´ve had my magician for ages now, and it was time to move on.
Bought the jade, and at first, i missed the buttons. No camera button, no contacts or calendar.
2 days using it, and now i don't miss them that much. Had to configure the answer button to access the contacts, by holding it a bit longer.
Still getting used to the touch flow software, but at first, it looks like a great little phone.
I have a Hermes before. At beginning I missed the buttons. But now I don't miss the buttons. The Jade is so small, light and beautifull.
Only the Softkay is missing, where is under the backcover.
The part where the display is becomes shaky a bit when you slide open the keyboard

I think it's normal. I've examined four X1a's and they all had a small amount of play in the top part of the slider when open.
Mine has also a slight play to it (back and forth). Noticed this on the Raphael as well.
Keep in mind though, that the slider is only supported by two metal hooks situated (when keyboard out) at one end of the screen. So guess it's normal.
The play will also increase as the phone gets older (wear and tear). As long as the screen doesn't fall off I guess it's ok.
To prolong the life though, I try to be gentle when opening and support the screen when it's open (to reduce the wear and tear).
Mine's shaky when closed. Went to the service centre thrice and everytime they said it was normal.
Mine is a bit shaky as well. even when closed, but afer giving it some thought, i guess it impossible to make it totaly solid, at least with this form. i annoyes me, though. pressing the keys and you feel how it bends a little. when opened, I am afraid to press the little x or soething else on top of the screen, at least without supporting the lower side with my other hand.

I support it when open, cause it's impossible to make it solid (@least not in this form factor). It's easy enough for me though.. cause the phone fits in my palm so easy (and way easier than other phones I've had - But I do miss the tilting screen from Kaiser though..then again, that needed major support when tilted)
I am new to this board, hello everybody!
I have my X1 for a week now. On mine the top part is shaky when closed, it moves ~1mm up/down opposite of the slider hinges. Anyone else?
It annoys me, but I hope it is okay and won't get worse.

i think it's normal. I noticed that as soon as I took it out of the box and was very worried. it's my first slider phone and i didn't know what was normal and what was not. reading threads like this was very reassuring for me. I just hope it won't get loose, if it stays like that, then i'm happy.
It seems really solid to me. No movement at all unless I push on it. I’m guessing it will loosen up over time.
same here, closed and opened. When I press gently in opposite corners when closed, it waggles slightly. I got annoyed/worried about this after purchasing the phone few months ago and went to the store to ask about it. I got to test three different X1s and they were all similar, so it's not a problem (or at least it's by the design
A bit annoying still though, especially when using touchscreen with your fingers. Mostly when pressing on the right side of the screen (down-right being the worst), it waggles slightly under your fingers.
Same here too. About 1mm up and down when closed, and when open, same.
And yes Jent, it does waggle a bit. Try using the phone when you're lying in bed, and hold the phone upside down... every press will move the screen about 1mm and it gets annoying very quickly.

Hi, seems I'm asking for a bit of help lately
Anyway on my qwerty keypad the letters U and O have to be pressed harder than all the others otherwise they won't register, I mean hard enough to slow down my typing quite a bit. I have pulled the phone apart many times and played with the keyboard position, put bits of paper in between the membrane and pop buttons etc.
When I first opened it up I noticed that the keyboard PCB was sitting above the hook looking piece of plastic holding it down and the board had been ever so slightly warped from this, I have since rectified this but the keys still need pressing hard.
Any ideas? Anyone with a similar problem?
EDIT: This is the Hermes I got from ebay second hand BTW.

I was curious whether the buttons are easy to trigger by accident.
On my Nexus S and the Focus, there is a subtle upward curve at the bottom of the phone. This small lip seems to prevent a lot of accidental presses of the capacitive buttons.
In my experiences with a completely flat face phone (the HD7), accidentally pressing the capqcitive buttons was extremely common and annoying. I like the looks of the Omnia 7 more than the Focus, but if it leads to similar problems as the HD7 (always pressing the buttons by accident) then I'd rather go with the focus.
For me that's one of the most annoying things about the phone. I hit the search button all the time.. But some say there will be a firmware update to fix that.

That's exactly what used to happen to me with my HD7. When I held the phone part of my thumb would be on the bezel and it would hit the search button. Also, when I held the phone in landscape my finger would also hit it.
With the Nexus S I don't run into this problem because the bottom is curved a bit. I've also played with the Focus a bit and it seems to have this slight curve at the bottom as well.
yup same thing here, this is when I spend time try to browse through apps and use my phone when it was still new. now i got the hang of it, and i dont really fiddle it as much as before now, just a basic need. and i got what a really wanted, fast and responsive phone.
