So I took my hero in today for having dust under the screen and the ear piece speaker being blown out. After telling me they wont give me a replacement and taking apart my phone (without asking btw) they cleaned the screen, then told me they were going to "harvest" a speaker from a phone being returned on monday and put the used speaker in my phone. After putting it back together they gave it back to me and I found they somehow corrupted my sd card. I was running apps2sd, had about 500 pics and all my nand backups on the card. Now I'm running a program to try to recover my fat partition so i can get to my nands and pics.
All I have to say is THANK YOU SPRINT FOR BREAKING MY 8gb SD CARD AND RUINING MY ****ING DAY!
So they fixed your $300 phone, yet accidentally corrupted your data on your $20 sd card? Hmm. Im sorry.........................? Lol seriously, your CARD isnt ruined, your data is just corrupted. Would you rather have your backups and a phone that isn't working right?

Why didnt you take your sdcard out before you brought it in for service? I also assume you brought it in rooted as well. All I can say is if you dont have a second copy of any of your nandbackups/files then you really never had a "backup" to begin with. Sorry to hear about your sdcard, lesson learned......
Yeah kind of have to agree with the replies here. If you didn't backup your memory card shame on you. Its not like the guy purposely set out ruin your memory card. Well I might have if you came to me with the attitude you got now. Memory cards go bad all the time. I think your just looking for something to b**ch about.

Phone isn't fixed... They cleaned the screen and promised me a USED part for repair of the speaker. They did nothing to prevent the dust issue from reoccurring and I know the $20 card isn't ruined. However, the hours I'm spending trying to recover my data doesn't equate to $20. My time isn't free. And the fact they want to put used parts in my 5 week old phone is just insult to injury.
Please don't take this as some sob story, I just wanted to vent to a group of people who I thought might understand my frustration.

I'm sorry, I'm just saying, my speaker was blown and I just replaced the speaker with the one from my old (very old) vogue, and it works perfectly fine. There's no way to prevent the dust, and you won't notice a difference between a used or new earpiece. Just sayin
Your speaker blew too?! WTF? You have any idea what might have caused it?
Last year I return my Hero to Best Buy because of the same problem, the guys changed my Hero and gave a brand new, before i walk trough my door i made a copy from my SDCard, anytime i make a NAN Backup i copy that backup to my computer, is just common sense, anyway i had the same problem with the speaker WTF is going on with the speakers?
sounds like another weak point on the phone... BTW, I usually backup to my comp but I had to go to the store straight from work. They only have a tech mon/wedns/fri 9 to 6.... Kinda gay...

Sprint doesn't care about your apps2sd, and it's not their responsibility. It was yours.
what about the 500 pics? Like i said, not trying to start a sprint bashing thread just sharing my inconvenience.
Don't like it? Don't comment.
Also, anyone know of a data recovery app that's any good? Running Win7 BTW.
hey go to google and search for Pandora Recovery and download it and pop in your sd card and away you go to recovering your files. It is a free great program.
showing the card as an unsupported file format.
I can't believe you took a phone (a rooted phone with AppsToSD installed, no less) in to a Sprint repair store with NONE of your data backed up.
Sorry. Lesson learned.
yeah..... Just reformated. LESSON LEARNED! ef it, i'm gonna try some new roms!
Lol, my phone and windows thinks it's 1.3 tb now!?
I also have much dust on the screen.
Should I have to contact with sprint to agrue about that?
Anybody else has the same problem?
I took my hero to get the dust cleaned as well. I forgot to remove my 8GB card like a genius and the tech fried my 8GB too. They came back out with a 2GB card as replacement and told me my 8GB card fried because it's not the one that came with the phone.
Granted I blame myself for not removing the card beforehand, but they still had an attitude even when they fried my card.
Okay so basically I have a damaged LCD and I need to wipe blind before I change phones, my phone has a security lock but I wanna be safe. On one of my mms messages I have a video of me banging an asian girl from behind. Don't want that to get out lol. Can anyone guide me step by step from Amon_Ra 2.3 how to factory reset?
i.e. Down Down Down Power Down Power etc etc.
I followed the extended menu from the pdf found on the Amon_Ra thread but I believe I get to the wipe option but get stuck at the confirmation screen, I don't remember how many times to scroll down to hit "YES".
So far I'm at:

Power (Wipe ALL)

When you open the attached media, yes, it downloads that media to your SD card, I think to the /sdcard/download folder.

No sir, she was the real deal, and all it cost me was a meal and a bottle of wine. Asian women are wild, she wanted to see how she looked riding me from behind so I recorded a couple of videos and sent them to her.
So in the end there was good news there was bad news. Let's start with how I broke the lcd in the first place. I'm leaving work to see a client, busy and running late carrying a lot of **** and I'm rather clumsy when I have to multitask. I forget my phone on the roof of the car, drove off and heard the phone slide off the back end of my civic coupe. I felt it's demise in slow motion and all I could do was say "nooooooooooooooo!" Ironically the front plastic was not scratched at all, so much for spending $15 on ZAGG. Phone on, lcd lit but the impact caused the crystals to crack, or whatever.
Fast forward to yesterday, took the phone to the Sprint service center, they said come back in 2 hours. Replaced the lcd free of charge! I was a happy camper, except now the volume keys don't work so I need to go back first thing in the morning.
I personally think they just replaced the phone with a refurb because I tried to adb to recovery but it was gone, red triangle, since the volume keys don't work I used adb to boot to bootloader and S was back on.
I'll keep you guys posted, not that you care.
Did you ever think that we might want to see this asian girl?

So, somehow my Epic. Got wet and I have no clue. I woke up in the morning and it was fully charged but I noticed it was wet.. not wet enough to have the screen fogged up or anything but when i took the back cover off it was a little bit wet. Then I realized that when I plug it up to charge it, it doesn't charge and when I plug it into my computer it can't be recognized either. I've already tried all the tricks and let it dry it for a day... everything works perfect except it won't charge (and I've tried multiple cables) but, what I really wanna know is if there is a way to go back to a stock rom without a cable or even if there is just a way to completely wipe it even if it doesn't work so I can take it in and get it replaced w/o voiding warranty. I have 66% battery life right now so, I'm keeping it turned off to hope there is a way. Thanks.
Can you stock it: yes. Are you ****ed? Yes. You're not getting a warranty repair on that. Water damage means you better have insurance. Trust me.
I do have insurance... so, I just need to know how to get it back to stock and take it in... or else I'll just call it up lost. Do you have to pay the $100 regardless if its water damage?
Yes, if it's water damaged, you're paying $100. Don't bother stocking it, Asurion doesn't care.
So, should I just call up Asurion and tell them its water damaged.. or just tell them its lost?

No. It's water damaged, tell them so. Once you fax in your affidavit, you'll get a return call within about a day asking for payment on the $100; do so, and it will be priority overnighted to you that day (very nice). Then when you get the new device, you'll use the prepaid mailer to send the damaged device back to them within 10 days.
Well, I just noticed its actually charging ... just doesn't say its charging and the computer doesnt recognize it..

I experienced something similar with mine. You can try a different cable, but if USB is hosed after water damage, your device is toast. I would know.
Yea, I guess I'll give it another day and see how it does if not I'll get a new one.. thanks for the advice though.
Well, my phone has been charging perfectly now that I replaced the cable (it even says its charging now) and I'm not having any problems with it at all except that it's not allowing it to work with my computer, so no odin. Can anyone guide me in the right direction on how to go back to completely stock via SD card. I haven't been able to find anything on it. Would like to go back stock and take it in to sprint. See if I can get a new one. If not I'm currently running AA's i3 and it runs great so, I'll just stick with that if nothing else. Thanks in advance.

It their anyway to force the phone to require a password in order to shut down the phone? This is a HUGE flaw that nobody seems to be focusing on. What's the point of having a security app on your smartphone if they can just shut it off and your done? Anybody feel the same way? It's like having a security system in your house and allowing anybody to simply shut it off without breaking a sweat. Are you okay with that? I messaged Lookout Mobile Security and Sent a Request which you can do so here once signing in https://www.lookout.com/help. Just click on Send a Request. Hopefully they can implement this vital feature in their security app. If theirs any smart people out their who can make this feature on their own I applaud you. Your phone will let you know where its at even if its off using Lookout online, but without out the phone screaming (a feature within Lookout that makes your phone emit a really loud sound) it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Click on the link and let them know you want this feature. It just makes security apps on ANY phone totally useless without this feature.
What is a thief going to do with a phone they can never turn on? Sure you can't use the security features with it off but they have to turn it back on eventually.

its written in its hardware to shutdown after holding the power button for 10 seconds, you protect your information with encryption, locks so the thief won't bother, that's all, not much you can do once they install clockworkmod, no offense
if the mobile provider does block the imei, you can just use it in another country.
google needs a database to centralize all licensed androids/imei with gmail account to lock it of its stolen or un-authorized and report it.
Well it could be used for other purposes too.
For me for instance. I drove home yesterday from work while suddenly I felt a small vibration from my pocket. Looked and it was from the phone turning off... I must have sat wrong. I'd love a "lock" to not have this happen again.
HOWEVER... there are apps known for freezing your screen (i.e. TouchControl atm).
If you get a freeze you're .... ****ed! so not sure if I'd like that, but it would be a nice feature if you feel safe that you won't get freezes.
Password to turn off phone? It's useless lol.
Take out battery?
ADB reboot?
Anyways, no matter what they're gonna have to turn the phone back on. If not, why would they steal the phone?

I understand your issue but all you have to do to turn a phone off is long press power for around 10 seconds and it automatically shuts down. By that logic removable batteries and SD cards are incredibly dangerous as well. If a thief gets your phone and knows what they're doing, there's not much you can do to get your phone back. The reason most people have passwords on their phones is really just to stop friends messing around with things, since it's fairly unlikely someone will steal your phone if you look after it properly.

Most thieves DON"T know how to do this. Either way this shouldn't stop the feature from being their. Just because somebody can means we shouldn't?
lol this is comical.
The only thing they would have to do is let the phone die within a day by the battery running out. Then they could charge it with the phone off, and proceed to thievery as normal.
If they were to implement this, I can just see the 1st thread after this 'feature' is enabled

What kind of shoe box we talking about? Most thieves aren't smart enough to know these things. The first thing they will do after taking it is turning it off. If it requires a password how will that be possible? I know this solution will not end world hunger or war, but what it will do is provide a bigger window in finding your phone and that's all we need. Is time not relevant to you?
#1 I treat my phone like my wallet (since it is w/ Google Wallet) which means I don't pull it out and set it on a table at a restaurant/bar, I don't hand it to people I don't know who say "hey bro can I use your phone real quick", I don't set it down at a party/friends house/anywhere. It's always in my pocket. You'd have to beat me down to get it, so slim chance of that (good luck..)
#2 Everything I do is password protected (i.e. lockscreen, Google Wallet, Play Store purchases) and I can disable Wallet remotely and change my PW to my Google account remotely.. all my pics/music are in the cloud so there's nothing to lose/steal from my phone
#3 *IF* someone was lucky enough to get their hands on my phone somehow, the last thing I would worry about is if they were able to flash/reset it quickly because chances are the amount of time you're talking about would be ~6-8 hours at best on average unless you were at 100% charge when they stole it
#4 It would cause more problems than it would solve as phones tend to freeze here and there, I guarantee *YOU* would be the only one suffering any consequence of the implementation not some theoretical thief.

Useless help. Regreted the will badly to ask here about my problem.
bacKzZ said:
So I had problems with my charging port on my S8 phone of that "Moisture Detection" feature superiority that totally exploited the charging port and destroyed it completely despite it never ever touching the water substance on it's whole lifespan leading me with total broken adapter and not even having access to use the phone again despite having the guaranty of Sasmung that it will work for "2 years" without even a problem. So I took the phone and send it to the store I bought in my country which is Neptun in Kosovo basically in Prizren city. I told what's the problem and even asked them clearly; I couldn't really make an backup from the phone due to the charging port failure and precisely asked them. Will they remove every single thingI have in my phone? Since it only is hardware related problem and it doesn't even have any manipulation need in the software for only swaping the charging port with a new one. And they said, Not really, Don't even worry about it, They won't remove any single of thing your phone and I asked them again about it because I still wasn't sure about it, they once again told me that they will not. So I let them get my phone and send in their repairing center hopingly to fix it properly without any problem as I had even bad experience with them about my TV which had problems of getting turned on and they completely removed the WIFI dongle it had inside and disable the wifi connection, now I can't even use the wifi connection anymore. So normally from that I had doubts for my phone as well. And guess what? I was right. They kind of fixed the charging port but they did even worse, They completely removed every single important thing I had starting from my college lessons, all the photos , different important documents and evidences that I had about an legal case that it is still open and totally depends on those evidences and every single thing I had there got destructed in brutalest way possible due to people's ignorance and negligence on my phone, even after persuading them of actual situation. Now it's been 2 weeks since I got my phone and i'm struggling to even find any way of recovering those important documents and evidences that's life mattering. The storage of the phone is not yet used to it's fullest due to the chances of the old data being overwritted.

Do I have to root the phone? Is it worth destroying the warranty and at the end getting nothing?

Do you even realize that they completely deleted everything? Like format **** or whatever those dumbass creations did. The app doesn't even find anything other than my own photos that I recovered from Samsung Cloud and nothing else.

Well that was your best bet. I guess you shoulda had it all backed up to the cloud. Like most of us do. Being rude like that isn't helping nothing but stopping others from joining in. Maybe you could have wireless charged the device. And then backed up. Or maybe you could've backed up on a PC and not relied on 1 device as a backup of very important information. But you didn't. Any time you send a device In for repair it gets formatted don't matter what they say. So tough luck mate that's how the world works. I understand your frustrations. But in the end it's your own fault
Again disk digger was your best bet. Only other option is an paid service for data recovery. I felt the way you posted was directed at me. So I did snap back. If not how it was meant I'm sorry. Just looked like it.
