If you bought the phone off of eBay, AND are not an AT&T/Cingular customer, they will not replace the phone... what is wrong with it...?
maybe ebay seller can help
maybe ebay seller can help?

Dropped Phone is an issue
Very few warranties cover dropped devices... There are a few though, but you have to have the warranty in place on a new device and there are some caveats to them... As for the eBay seller, I doubt that they will offer any real assistance after 4 months of usage... There are a few other options that may be available, but they all concern questionable ethics and morality, so I won't even mention them...
You may be out of luck on this issue... Good Luck to you though...
Yep; you're essentially screwed. When you buy something from eBay, you rarely get a manufacturer's warranty, especially if the seller is an individual as opposed to an eBay Seller (business). Even if they are a legitimate business, I too doubt they will warranty any electronic device that has been dropped.
Next time do two things--put the phone in a protective case and use a screen protector; both things are inexpensive insurance against damage.
stevebonning> There isn't any damage outside.
I'm only interested in usual warranty procedures. If the contract is neccessary, can I ask my friend from the US,who has the contract to bring the phone for warranty replacement?
Buy a new phone and don't try to scam Cingular/AT&T.
Contract is Necessary for Warranty Replacement...

You cannot ask your friend to have it done, since that phone is not listed on his/her account... That is why you were originally asked for the phone number... You have to buy a new phone or pay to have your phone serviced... You can contact HTC and send them the phone and pay the cost... There is no legal way that you can have the phone repaired under any warranty agreement, after you have already damaged the product...
I hate to say it, since it has already been said... you will have to either pay for the repair, or buy a new phone...
This forum cannot help you commit fraud, that is not what we are here for... Your original question has been answered.. If you have any further questions, other than how to get a damaged, non-warranty phone repaired, please begin a new thread and we will be happy to help you...
I would think next time you will take better care. Surely you really can't expect anyone or company to pay for your breaking your own phone?? Not only is this not right I believe it to be illegal what your trying to do. Best case immoral and flat out sleazzzzzy.

Wise up, people... the phone is utimately warranted by HTC as the manufacturer of the device. They prefer to route things through the carriers because it's easier that way, but you can deal directly with HTC.
To the OP: All you can do is contact HTC and plead your case. You may need to be persistent, but they do have non-carrier and out-of-warranty service. May take 2 or 3 tries to get to someone who knows this.
Oh, and despite what some have said, if you bought if off eBay it still carries the one year manufacturer's warranty (whether or not it will cover having dropped it is another issue). They track the warranty period by S/N. I recently had one -- that I purchased off eBay -- replaced, no questions asked.
vp3G>thanks for you answer I will tray contact nearest HTC office
Warranty replacement
Pm me I work at the warranty exchange center in 1000 oaks california. I might be able to help. Ill give you the need t know to get the phone replaced. One drop should not caused it to trip. I've dropped the hellout of mine and it works fine.
jrgonz454>lucky you, you are working in cingular or htc?
I have been droped my Wizard twice and phone work perfect
but not this time with Hermes
I'm working in pc business and when we get non working device we just check for visual damages and if dont see any we bring device to manufacturer or distributor and usually we get new one (if not expired warranty time)
Ok, need a bit of help to know how much repairs will cost...
My phone got sent back 3 weeks ago to HTC via Carphone warehouse to have screen replaced as it had the known issue with the "oil" effect and the screen not responding
Upon it being sent back, HTC have now held my phone, waiting responce off myself saying that "illegal firmware" is present on the phone and it will require a motherboard replacement and has had the warrant fully voided.
I dreaded this senario as I thought this could be the case, as I had one of Duttys firmwares install but couldn't revert back before I sent it due to the broken screen.
Anyone got any idea of cost? or ways of working around this issue and getting the to think it still is warranty covered?
I am so gutted and upset, really can't afford a new screen and motherboard ! Im guessing it will be costly?
Aside from this do you feel HTC have grounds to be able to refuse to fix a hardware issue and say it needs a new motherboard to correct the "illegal firmware" before they will ever consider looking at the damaged screen?
Anyone have any ideas of info? It's a real shame HTC have this attitude, it's just putting further limits on allowing there device to be used to full potential
Moved out of development
My two cents (altho I'm no expert)
Maybe you could get angry with HTC - explaining this is a hardware fault, not a software one, (although I've heard they don't accept that)
Or you could probably reinstall stock ROM, just by working out the key presses (e.g. hard reset, that run USPL, then run firmware upgrade)
But now they know you've used Dutty, they might still quibble.
But it's not right they refuse a hardware problem because of a a software change, as they're not related, and I remember someone else on this forum playing hardball and saying they were going to get their lawyer involved, you could threaten that?

Well it's took them to the 28th day to respond with this message about it being "illegal software" after another 8 day it took carphone warehouse to send it to HTC repairs... So it's already been over a month since I last had my phone... Im just worried that if I hold out and argue, it's going to add another month onto the wait, and then my phone will have been gone for such a long time.
I might just ask them how much do they think the repairs cost for the Motherboard, but then I envisage them saying along with motherboard, they will want cost for a new screen too !!
My edvice is to take your HD back and gave to any phone repair shop , they are able to replace screen, as for software ,once you have screen fixed you'll be able to flash again and use it , new screen don't need any software to run . I know that as fact because I work in phone repair shop .This is cheapest solution for u because HTC will definately charge you for foulty screen plus motherboard , and that will cost you almost the same as buying new HD.Sorry for bad English.
if you can get it back and cant work out the keys download mymobiler, It auto installs to ppc when connected
As mentioned, get it back and have it done locally...you don't have time for HTC's games!
As already stated by a few people, your best advice is to ask for it back and get a screen replacement locally. Also, for them to say its needs a new motherboard seems a bit 'over the top' as well!
Does HTC have a centralised device blacklisting?
If not he can get it back and flash factory ROM and give it in a different service centre.
BTW HD screen is toooo delicate, a guy who broke it with pressure against his chest wall in a crowded train, got it replaced, don't know costs but they flashed factory ROM for him and warned him that illegal ROMs not only voids warranty but they may refuse to service the device.
BTW replacing motherboard for ROM flashing is too harsh a punishment IMHO.
Phone is in your hands now and does phone power on normally ? If it is , just flash back stock SPL and ROM via PC. After that send again to htc repair centre (send it by some friend, not you)
UPDATE
Spoke to Carphone warehouse, who further read me the message HTC sent them, then realised that HTC contact them over 21 days ago about this responce, but nobody updated me.
They then transferred me back to my local store, saying they have no idea where to go next.
Who then passed me onto a contact directly at Carphone Warehouse repairs centre near me.
Spoke to a guy there who was very helpful.
He got HTC on the phone, who were argueing about the Firmware. Refusing to do any further work, untill screen is replaced.
Now HTC are awaiting my phone call, they have given me my IMEI number and said I can contact them to try and disscuss this further.
Fingers crossed.
This makes me a bit hesitant about installing new rom on my brand new Touch HD.
I am so lucky that I live in Germany...
No such problems... in the first six month, THE SHOP where you bought it HAS TO PROOVE that the cooked ROM is really responsible for the hardware failure.
After that you still have another one-and-a-half years where you can easily proove that a simple ROM isn't able to kill the display in this manner.
If this was my case in my country, I would have set them a deadline to repair, bought a new phone and sued them for compensation.
Can't believe your case... but if you are really depending on the manufacturers guarantee, then... good luck!!! Don't you have any warranty claims (in USA?) against Carphone Warehouse as seller itself?
hey make sure you get the screen sorted them downgrade, HTC want to charge me 151 for a new motherboard
Hey,
I'm in the UK.
I've got a bit of a problem. I brought a HD from eBay, and when I got it, it wouldn't turn on.... several replacement chargers and batteries later, it just won't power on... the charging light won't even indicate any activity.
My real problem is that the phone was shipped with a 6.5 ROM on it (which I knew about).
My question is, does anyone know how much HTC are likely to charge once they find out that its got non approved software running? I went through the returns process, and saw on the T&C's that they will charge for repair, servicing and labour charges if the phone is running 'non approved software modifications'
I am going through the dispute case with PayPal and the seller, but I'm just keen to get a resolution soon, as PayPal won't have a response 'till mid October.
Cheers,
Glen
Why not flash a stock rom then return device for repair as no non-approved software would then be on device?
Stock roms can be found here. Guide to flashing here.
If your having any difficulty flashing, post your query within flashing thread.
re: krowboi
Can't answer your exact question re: service charge but very well timed post as I was sending my device back this afternoon with modified software on it so thank you for the heads up.
I did call HTC this morning and queried if modifed software would invalidate the warranty and the message was their labs would diagnose the device to determine the fault and if the modifed software caused the fault then yes I would be liable.
Too much of a grey area so I will be reflashing with the stock ROM and sending back for repair.

If you have HSPL flashed, you will probably be charged. In another thread, a guy received a comment back from HTC that HSPL was the main cause for the main board failing - whether this is truc or not has not been prooved.
I had to return my phone that had HSPL - however as the main board was completely dead - ie the phone would not boot, they just replaced the main board. I now only flash with SPL - it gives a much easier path to get back to stock rom if any issues start occuring.
You have bought a phone on eBay that on delivery, did not power up. Then spent money on batteries and chargers, and the phone still won't turn on. Now you want to spend money on repairing it?
I would imagine after shipping, parts etc that your bill from HTC will not be too far from the price you paid for the phone. So if I were you, and desperate to have a working HD, I would be looking for another on eBay and waiting for Paypal to refund you for this one.
From my experience in the U.S., they will charge you more than you paid for the phone to reflash an original ROM. They always say that the motherboard has to be replaced.
Great phones, but their service is based on Mafia principles.
Thanks for the replies.
Think I'm going to wait for PayPal to do their thing
cheers
Can I ask a similar but related problem?
After treating my Blackstone like a baby for three months, I left it alone on a table at a friend's house, only to return and find someone had spilt drink all over it.
Now the power button doesn't work/battery drains in three hours etc. etc.
I can reflash to stock ROM, but I was wondering if/how much HTC would charge to repair it for me?
I don't mind paying a bit, but just wondering if anyone has rough estimates.
Thanks, good luck with yours

As long as you return to stock rom & SPL your insurance/warranty will be valid. Also make sure have have removed security unlock if you had it
You can find the shipped orange HD rom here if you need it

When I had a problem with my screen I did not have Orange care.
They told me to contact Regenersis who handle all their repairs.
Regenersis said they do not repair the HTC Touch HD and would send it to HTC.
The charge was about £80-£100.
So I did a deal with Orange for £80 and got another handset - with care.
Why are they not offering you a replacement handset ?

Andrew
thanks guys. they will probably give me a replacment handset but i was just curious. thanks for the link and re-asurance.

I'd be wary of this approach as a lot of others haven't been as lucky
my screen has now broken aswell and i have a new phone coming tomorrow. i currently have xtrom on my phone and i need to get the shipped hard spl and the shipped rom on it. my computer wont open links to rapid share. not shore were i can get the originals from so if anyone can help i would be very pleased.
thanks tom
when i broke my screen, i had orange care, so i rung and said id lost it on a night out, withing 24 hours i had a new phone, cost me £15 i think, i then sold my old HD to mazumamobile for a tidy £130 i think it was.
i have had three hds from orange care and i have never flashed a stock or spl back onto it
i trust in them to be horribly stupid and it works
they tend not to fix things as per say just gve you a new device then you send ur old one back with the courier
my current one has energy rom on it and the newton rings and guess what
i aint flashing crap

Interesting that you say this as I do know of others which have tried this and got the rsponse from hTC that illegal software was found on device so warranty was void. This illegal software being a cooked rom/HSPL etc
Maybe it depends on the fault, i.e. in some cases depending on what the fault is, they actually do look at your HD to try and fix it??

I think you're confused about Warranty and Insurance here, FallenSpartan.
Those that have a faulty device and no insurance would send their HD to HTC for repair under warranty (Provided it is within warranty period). HTC would more than likely investigate, and if HSPL and/or custom ROMs are found then warranty would be void.
Those that have a faulty device and do have insurance. From Orange, for example, would call their insurer and have a replacement device sent out to them, no questions asked. Insurers usually send out a replacement and the courier swaps for the broken handset. Insurance is nothing to do with HTC and Warranty, it's up to the insurer what they then do with the faulty unit, but I guess they usually have a repair contract with a large handset repair centre rather than with individual manufacturers. That's what I would do, anyway.

my touch doesnt work on the phone

did not get wet or damaged.
Your 'digitizer' is shot and needs to be replaced. If your phone is in warranty, send to HTC and they will repair it (must remove HSPL, etc.). If out of warranty or your phone is 'modded' they'll charge you ~ $120. Mine was repaired under warranty and shipped back within 2 days.

do u think its worth the 120?
If you read around a little, this faulty hardware (the digitizer) has been an issue on many HTC devices..and in our case the HD2. I believe they repair it with a replacement that will no longer be prone to failure down the line..which is a reason I would tell you to have it repaired for $120 rather than buy a used one out there for $200+ that may have the same issue down the line.
Option #1 would be free repair by warranty. Option #2 is a new HD2 from T-Mobile (upgrade) that'll cost you less than $100. Option #3 is the $120 repair by HTC.
I really think your phone may still be in warranty. Even if you bought it used, it doesn't matter...just tell them you bought it new at a T-Mobile store when they ask...they'll see if you're in warranty when you tell them your IMEI
