Is there a way to run this game on Omnia 2?
I dont think so, the game is designed for QVGA screen (the only resolution available at the time of its development) and now its too late for Microsoft to update it. I was in love with this game too on my HTC P3400i. :|
You just need GAPI draw for the older windows games
There is a GAPI for wm6.5 cab here in the forums make a search.
Basically before directx for mobile became a working reality, Microsoft worked with another company to produce GAPI draw and this was use by a lot of games.
However MS in its shortsighted wisdom (perhaps to force developers to use directx mobile) removed gapi support in wm 6.5.
Not thinking that many users still have their old games or are about buy older games. AOE III is an excellent example of a great older game.
Asides from this AOE3 maxes out at VGA resolution so use WVGAfix (i forgot the exact name) which is also floating around xda dev so use search.
Im sorry i cant post the links for you as i didnt bookmark them.
Try this software GxPatcher

I am a noob XDA2 owner. I have tom tom installed and would like your opinions on the coolest software to add. Id like to watch DVDs and love playing games and usual pc stuuff.
Any sugestions welcome. 8)
pockettv and
and pocketMVP are the best movie viewers imho
about games then you are a bit too unspc i mean most people like playing games some pref chess some pref quake ....
Coolest App
On top of what has already been said...
After spending weeks on this forum and on Handango this is my hit parade:
DVD:
mMedia: to convert DVDs or any other videos in almost any format. (I haven't tryed yet as I am waiting to buy a large memory card, but from the specs seem the most complete programs while other limits you in term of input or output format)
Games:
Monopoly is gorgeous
Other interesting games are Chopper Alley, TombRider, when anyone finds a decent first person shooter please let me know
There is a C64 Emulator which should enable you to play old commodore 64 games (they where good) unfortunatly I didn't manage to get the app to work on my XDAII, but I haven't tried too hard... it should be possible
Usefull SW:
Ringtonez: to get personalized ringtones by caller
A profile manager: to change the phone settings according to your envirronment and much more... I am still trying to understand which one to choose between PocketZen and Phone Profiles... I have dedicated a post to it but with few responses... help anyone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10168&highlight=
MS Reader: English or foreign language to english dictionaries
HP Mobile Printing
iMove Messanger: Universal Messanger
PocketLingo: if u need a specialized dictionary
ConverterCE (usefull and free)
Must have utilities (they are not cool, but they would make a difference):
-BT Tools: when you face yourself with the limits of the units BT app.
-SpriteBackup: must have back up utility... your device would hardreset, no matter how carefull you are, and even if your contact might be sync a lot of other info and settings are not, so u want to back up and xBackUp is just too slow to be used)
-PocketNav: Close bottons function that really closes apps (free or cheap; does just that and does it well)
-ScaryBear (fix a PPC2003 bug that slows your XDA after every reset, free)
-Wakeup Tweak: fix another bug with PPC2003
Have fun!
Chris
cchris
well there is doom 1&2 and quake 1 and 2 wolfenstien3d and the second version forget the name spear of destiny or something
and then there is heretic (really got a kick out of that back in the day in MP where you could hex your opponent into a chicken) and hexen (heretic2)
then there are some Fps rpg's around
suppose since counterstrike is based on ½life which is based on quake2 engien it could be portet and i have played it on my laptop in 320_240
it could be possbile to port it and even play online using wifi or gprs
Bf1942 or unreal though i dont think we'll se ports of untill they release windows CE 5 with a directx mobile and mobile mmx

I would love to see a good list of time wasting games that run good on the native 320x320 Palm Screen (i.e. no RealVGA).
I will get this rolling with a few that I have tested and will even post links for Downloads:
ICBM: This is a FreeWare Missle Command Clone that works best with a stylus.
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/files/ICBM-PocketPC.zip
ISS Invaders: This is a FreeWare Space Invaders Clone. It does not take full advantage of the 320x320 screen but works just fine.
http://rs159.rapidshare.com/files/64617804/OmegaOne_ISS_Invaders_v1.2.0.rar
Pocket Uno: This FreeWare card game is a one of the world's most popular family card games. Supports multi player on a single unit.
http://programaro.ru/pocket_uno.html/PocketUno_v.1.42.zip
Pocket Sand: Not so much a game, but a true time waster (I mean that is a good way You will either think it's stupid within 5 minutes, or you'll become obsessed.
http://www.4shared.com/file/43001107/c3420ee3/Pocket_Sand.html
Guitar Hero 3: Though not FreeWare, the first song is Free and lots of fun. No good for playing in meetings though.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/totalaccess/software/games/guitarhero3.mspx
Anymore???
Hey thanks for this post.
Bejeweled 2 from AstraWare works fine
More Games
Here are a couple more I found that work perfect on the Treo Pro:
Kevtris: A Free Tetris Clone:
http://www.caywen.com/Kevtris.CAB
SmartSimon: A Simon Says game (pretty basic but free):
http://www.airfagev.com/games/SmartSimon.v1.PPC.cab
Now get back to work
Arcade Park from herocraft works fine too
Anybody could try the pocketmoregames version of orions? You can download the test version here:
http://pocketmoregames.com/distribs/orions/orions-demo.exe
It is said the latest version can adapt to 320x320 (it will probably get a border)
TIA
any others? I've had probs with games on the treo pro-- most recent was Monopoly - view in a tiny (rectangle) screen. any suggestions? (also use spb mob shell, so can't use realVGA).
Distant Galaxies works also.
Use google to find free download.
It also has high score servers uploads.
www.luisespinosa.com I think is the web site

Nice find!
Make sure to redefine your keys before your first game. I had no idea how to quit the game until I had done that. With that said I also love how easy it is to redefine the keys.!!!

Thanks for your games!
5x5 Another game
Here is a link to a simple game that was developed by a fellow XDA'r
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509413
At the time of this ost 320x320 is not listed as supported, however, I tested it on my Treo Pro and it works fine.

a few more
I can tell you all of the Implicit Software Solutions games work perfectly on the Treo Pro
http://www.implicitsoftware.com/PPC.html
As well, Panoramic BlackJack and Hexegems are both designed for 320x320
http://www.panoramicsoft.com/mobileproducts.php
Spore, Leasure Suite Larry and Castlevania all worked perfectly and used the full screen.
PocketSlay works but its not designed for 320x320 so it rescales.
(think all of these games are listed on www.wireless-gaming.net)
I have PocketNES working on my Pro, however it is not full screen... Regardless, playing any and every NES game you want in the palm (no pun intended) of your hand is good fun!
I'm sorry, but you say a "list of games that work on 320x320", Yet you say it 'doesn't take full advantage'. WHY WOULD YOU PUT THE LINKS. I don't want to see some gimpy half-screen game on my phone which already has a small enough screen. Post games that atleast go fullscreen. Or. Put them hidden deep inside a crap pile. thanks
what about a golf game? Seems the omigisoft 1.0x version is the only one I could find to work right.
http://get.skyfire.com/
Skyfire, the mobile browser for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile devices, has broadened its beta testing to include the UK and no longer requires users to register with the service.
Skyfire works by using a proxy server, including a UK-based one, to do all the heavy processing and just renders content on the mobile device. Opera Mini works in much the same way, optimising content through a proxy, but Skyfire takes that further with support for Flash, Java, AJAX and Silverlight, as well as rendering content from YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer.
According to Skyfire this is "the first time you'll be able to view the entire web on your mobile device". You'll have to excuse us if we claim to have heard that before, but at least the company makes no claim to have the whole internet available.
Early betas of Skyfire had problems with stability and clumsy interface components, as well as being limited to US users (at least officially), but these areas have been addressed in the latest version (0.8.5), which apparently offers better zoom control and management of bookmarks.
We say "apparently" as we've not managed to get the beta installed yet - our Windows Mobile device is of the wrong resolution, while the nearest S60 handset won't recognise the Skyfire certificate. But if you have a less esoteric device handy the beta is free to download.
Skyfire would still like you to register with them, offering the opportunity to store your bookmarks and cookies in the cloud and take them between devices - the company is funded with $17.8m of VC capital and is going to want to make money at some point. The use of proxies provides the potential for embedded advertising or a subscription service, though the company will be hoping to charge handset manufacturers to pre-install their browser as the best mobile experience available. ®

Says it wont run on the X1. Just use the wvga fix to get it running
Not in United States, Canada, or United Kingdom, so can't download.
im rather intrested in the Firefox mobile version.
Added it as an attachment if you cant download it
Browser which doesn't use the entire screen isn't very useful IMO.
Currently, we support Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 (3rd edition) platforms, and run on these phones:
Windows Mobile phones: Skyfire runs on Microsoft Windows 5, 6, and 6.1. We support VGA and QVGA screen resolutions. Skyfire runs on many popular Windows Mobile phones including the HTC Tilt, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Fuze, Motorola Q and Q9, Palm Pro, Palm 800W and Samsung Blackjack II. To check if your phone is compatible with our OS and resolution requirements, please refer to the Microsoft website.
Skyfire will not run on Windows Mobile PDAs. Skyfire runs on phones only.
Skyfire will not run on WVGA Windows Mobile phones (e.g. 800x480 resolution or similar that differs from 640x480 VGA).
ok wtf i'm confused
Yeah, i sooo totally bought this phone to run applications on 2/3 of my screen.
Dont get me wrong, it is nice for some people that it works, but i will not install crap like wvgafix' because some program does not know how to scale on different resolution screens.
If i wanted VGA res, i'd would've bought a Diamond / TP instead.
btw, no offence to the programmer of wvgafix, but IMO it should'nt be necesary in the first place.

Your loss, the reason why SkyFire is VGA is due to the fact that it's not really a browser, but a viewer to their server.
The image displayed is nothing more than an upscalled QVGA.
However you can now listen to Last.fm and watch Hulu/BBC iPlayer (depending on your location).
Also a large number of apps were built before WVGA was even considered. Yes some developers will create new versions, but others will have stop working on the projects years ago.
I didn't want to post this on the ROM dev forum 'cos strictly speaking it's not NOT dev
I've started tinkering with development and am a capable .net developer, so that's not the issue. The problem I have is with the device emulators you get at part of the windows mobile sdk - the 320x240 resolution is a far cry from that of the HD2's screen and wondered what the typical solution for developing full screen apps (i.e. not form-based) are and how to work around the emulation limitations?
Ideally I'd want to emulate the full HD2 screen size. Is that possible?

Have you downloaded the WM6 SDK? That comes with some larger emulators, although there isn't a WVGA one included (I have seen one though, so a bit of googling might help with a WVGA emulator). I generally build stuff then copy if to my device and run it from there. It's a bit long-winded, but I'm not an emulator fan (except for fpsece, of course )
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3A-A651-4745-88EF-3D48091A390B&displaylang=en
My experience with Visual studio under WM is limited to one "hello world"-type app, but if there is one thing that struck me it's how well the IDE would integrate with the target - i.e connect your WM device to the PC through ActiveSync, VS recognises it, and you can directly do live debugging right on the hardware. Click "play" in VS, it automatically builds, uploads to the device and runs, with breakpoint support, etc...
So if you actually have the device, no need for an emulator. If not - well yes, that makes sense then
I use the emulator for the X1.... OK so it looks like an X1 on screen but it gives you the 800x400 resolution in the emulator... you can download it from here....
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/cws/devworld/technology/windows-mobile/xperia-x2
I think that its been updated now for the X2... but that has the same screen resolution...
You do get a lot of stuff included for the X1 but... let me know how you get on...
Regards,
Alan
Here you go mate. The 6.5 SDK has WVGA emulators in it...

my tp2 in the tmobile one unlocked so use orange and has an April 2010 version of athenos. are there any games 3d racing, fps, rts and other wise that suport the hardware keyboard and run well on this phone? i hate all the touch only nonsence trying to be an iphone. the difference between hermes and tytn2 with 2button press support was fantastic and if i can use the H/W keyboard it would make up for not having a dpad. I tried tony hawks 2 but runs upsidedown for me and about 5fps which is sad with little discernable difference after i renamed the dll in windows and moved the one in the th2 folder there.
im also gutted hardmarks scrabble doesnt work properly where the botton of the letter tiles is cut off.
finally is there opengl or 3d compatibility with the tp2? experience to date has been a little dissapointing and mobile shell 3.5 is a little laggy
thanks for any help you can throw my way
I've been disappointed by the amount of 3d games for our phones much less windows mobile .
Remember the phone is designed for business, but you can try an emulator. I use FPSEcE for PlayStation games. If you do enough reading on their forums you can get some good games running pretty well.
games
Well there are some fun games but not console type go on google and type
SuperMarioBros windows mobile
Xtracts windows mobile
Gears of War windows mobile
games
Ok there not much games right now for windows mobile but go to this website they have some freeware games made by independent developers like SuperMarioBrosHD , SuperMarioJump,Different pong versions, and Gears of War lite. Its located here

thanks alot for the replies and the links. i found air hocky again something i had on the the tytn 2 but it never played great but it was playable but i was surprised to see it run slower on my tp2.
id love an accerlerometer controlled game like the ps3 game with ducks on a tray whatever it was called it was strangley addictive and great fun to have a try each when its cold n wet out side.
i also really want hankmark scrabble as it is the only properly playable version out there it allows you to move tiles arround freely, look up words the lot all other versions fall way behind but the tiles dont display in their entirety so you cant see what letters you have! such a shame. anyone know a work arround? wvgafix doesnt work just makes it worse.
finally tonyhawks. how DO i flip the screen the other way?

I am in the same shoe as you! I had handmark's scrabble on my old I-Mate JAMin, but when I upgraded to Touch Pro 2 the CD wont install at all. So I bought a new Scrabble off Amazon and that wont work either. It needs "Palm Software" before it can install on my device. Handmark suggested I use a desktop running the XP but that did not work either. Handmark is essentially dancing around the issue of continued support for their Scrabble Software. When I asked them about the Scrabble being sold through 'Handango-in-Hand, they did not respond on that. If anybody here know how to make it work, please come to our aid.
