Have you tried clearing "Defaults" in the applications part of settings? Maybe one time you accidentally set these programs as the default app for the particular functions. Good luck!
That has happened to me I don't have to reboot.
I just tap the power button to turn the screen off and turn it back on.
And I agree about the pics.

Possibly the known touchscreen issue. I think your presses didnt register at the place you wanted and registered an inch lower. Lock/Unlock your screen to fix this.

Hey guys,
Does anyone use Gesture Search from Google? I just found out about this app and I'm lovin' it! but I couldn't figure out how to use the 'Double flip' function in the app. From what I saw, the app's suppose to start when you flip the phone, it's a neat function but apparently I can't get to work on my Rachael anyone got any ideas?
Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD3ZYKIqj7A
sounds interesting, going try that app right now
I can't get the flip to work either...

doesn't work with yours as well huh? maybe i should report a bug to Google
It also didn't work for me, I was going to post my own thread about it
did not work for me as well, updated and tried as soon as i got the market updates notification
Me neither! Tried on all settings, tried left handed, right handed. But nope, no joy.
I use it all the time to dial numbers..
I cant stand the stock dialer app, and the 5 clicks to get to someone.
gesture only takes a few seconds.
Always worked fine for me.

Yea, that's what i love about this app. I can just swipe two letters
and my friend would pop up on my screen and I can just tap the call button.
Lovin' it! But we're talking about the Double Flip function on the new
update for the app (ver 1.2). Does that work for you?
I just posted a thread on the Google Discussion page, hopefully someone
can fix this. Will keep you guys posted

Awesome. I posted a thread on their discussion page as well. Hope it gets fixed
Yea, so ive brought this up before and i see the power button still being the first mechanical button to break over time. Mainly because you have to press it constantly just to use the phone or wake the phone up to use.
So heres some ideas, correct me or critique them, and reply if theres already good alternatives/apps out there.
I know some of these ideas can drain the battery, but work with me on this...
- When an sms/mms is received i want the screen to auto turn on. Windows mobile did this from what i remember and it was a novelty.
- Be able to turn the screen on by swiping one or two of the lower capacitive buttons instead of pressing the power button.
- Have the screen dim to its lowest setting instead of fully turning off. (dunno how battery draining this can be) Windows mobile did this as well.
- Have an app monitor the motion sensor in the phone to where if you pick the phone up from a flat surface (horiz position) the screen auto turns on.. and maybe an extra option of having the screen turn on if theres a shake or jostle (of course you could adjust the sensitivity). But having this app running in the background all the time could be draining. I mean shiii.. the phone knows when youre in call and if your phone is up to your head so why cant we have that feature to turn on the screen instead of using the power button.
I would pay good money for someone to develop this. An all in one app that includes all those options. I'll do the graphic work if need be.
Most of that seems a little out there and un-doable, but I do know that Handcent has an option to turn on your phone when a sms/mms is received with a small box in the center of the screen for a quick reply. Hope that helps a little.
^^^ beat me to it.
if you use smspopup or handcent, they both have option for the screen to come on when you get a new text message.
they also popup a box to read the message and have the option to quick reply or go to the messaging app. you can turn this off tho and just have the screen wake up for any where from 10 seconds to like 5 minutes.

How so? Phone turns quiet when picked up im sure it can be set to turn on when picked up. SMS as someone mentioned, handcent does. Apparently "screebl" does the screen turn on, testing now.
you can use an app called no lock that will allow you to use the volume buttons to wake the phone, i don't think that you'll be able to wake by using that capacitive buttons - this would essentially mean that your phone would never sleep.
and I'm almost positive that you can set up a profile in tasker to take care of the dimming instead of turning off the screen. In fact, you could probably set up most, if not all of these through various tasker profiles.
Not to mention how much battery it would waste polling the accelerometer to see if it's been moved.

actually those are all things that seem pretty mainstream from an OS derived from the most robust OS out there [linux]. Yes, those can all be done on android. Unfortunately there is a lack of programmers ... Especially to something that probably wont appeal to the ones we do have...
Also some kernel modifications will be necessary...
Im sorry i cant do this for you... If i could I would... Just because our phones can... and a couple of those things should already be with us...
Someone help us!!
Coming from the iphone. I loved the look of the evo... but I now miss the home button for this exact reason. Lol
The swiping of the captive keys sounds great. I doubt its doable though..
EDIT: ok, screebl is cool. And eliminates the need to press the power to put it to sleep... but it doesn't wake it up when picked up, so it solves half the problem.

If I go into Manage Applications I have two facebook apps listed, Facebook version 1.3.2 and Facebook for HTC Sence version 1. Neither will allow me to uninstall?
It's a bug?
In fc chat, if we select go offline, my friends in their fc PC, see me like being online, it's annoying because some times I want not being seeing online.
I think is a bug app.

Hmm, that is interesting. I am guessing it is the rom you have since I am using Hyperdroid and am able to uninstall the old one to put the new one.
So I am finding conflicting information online about this functionality. Essentially when I would like to do is say a hotword (the default is "google") and the phone would launch a search. As far as I can tell this can only be initiated from within Google Now, which to be honest is almost pointless. Given that you need to touch the screen to launch Google Now its just as easy to hit the little microphone icon. Is it possible to launch the Google Now search without actually being in Google Now? It would be great if I could simply roll over after I get up in the morning and say a hotword which wakes the phone and launches the search app.

You are correct, that's how it is supposed to work. The phone Googling every time somebody said Google would be out of control.
It's probably possible somehow, but the constant listening for voice input would reduce your battery to a potato.

The microphone constantly enabled while endlessly comparing the input to listen for a keyword?
Absolutely, yes.
Ok, so what about if that only happened when it was charging? For instance, when I am sleeping I leave the phone on the nightstand next to my bed and it is plugged in. Alternatively if you have it setup in your car so that it is charging while you drive. Both instances are ideal for when you would need truly "hands free" access to search functionality.

I haven't seen any. That'd be a massive drain on the battery; the watch would be constantly redrawing the display instead of sitting idle and updating only once a minute. I'm not sure you'd even get through a shift before it were to die...

It's amazing how little people read.
i linked you to an app called "wear picture watch". Download and install that. Open it, it's a watch designer. Download the zip file from that guys page now open "wear picture watch" app. Goto the side menu scroll down you'll see "import/export" click on it. Now select the zip file and click "refresh" on top. There are other settings here on this app where you can adjust what shows up and what doesn't. One of those options can be tuned to have the seconds hand show up even when dimmed. Furthermore there is "update interval" which can be changed do the second hand moves even when dimmed.

Actually you originally linked me to a play google link first. Which did NOT work. Which is why I said url did not work. Than I did go to that G+ link. I originally didn't see the instructions within the posts on G+, so my bad. Maybe I was distracted by the nice designs. As for the "update interval" section, there is none. There is a "clock draw interval" but not a update interval. I only saw that under weather settings.
I got it working. It is in fact the "clock draw interval", not "update interval". Just had to change that to sec. always(wake lock). Now just need to figure out how to get some numbers in there displayed around the clock.

No worries, got it working exactly how I want it! So glad you pointed this out. So now I can just switch to this clock temporarily when I go in to see patients. I will post the file(assuming I can, and of course giving credit to where its due) that I used with the adjustments I made to allow seconds be displayed even while dim. So if future medical personal come along, they have a way to use their smart watch at work. thanks again.
