I have noticed that having too many messages saved messes up the fluidity the device. So I started to delete my messages but it was still a bit laggy. However I found that the messages I deleted were still being saved in the deleted folder of messages. I cleared the folder and the phone runs smoother.

Firstly, awesome username.
Secondly, thanks, will take a look.
I'm guessing the "Clear the deleted message:" option in All Messages -> Menu -> Settings -> Options is the one to remove this step?

Somehow i wonder if this "feature" actually works.
I've set mine to delete immediately but all my messages still stay in the deleted folder. Heck, sometime after claearing it, the old messages stil suddenly reappear again :0
another tip is clearing your cache, i used a handy program called cleartemp from opnmarket and you cans et 3 custom folders also,

I have noticed that as well, I had to manually do it even after I set that feature.

In the Messaging app, the "Deleted Items" folder of my Text Messages has (10) after its name in the Show menu to indicate that there are 10 unread items in the folder. When I open the folder, there are no messages there, although at the bottom of the screen it sais " Text Messages 0 Items, 10 Unread". Whatever I try, I cannot clear that and make that 0 Items, 0 Unread, like it should show, since the folder is empty.
I tried the tools-> Empty Deleted Items option, but the problem remains. Does anyone know how to get rid of the message that there are 10 unread messages in th folder, although it is actually empty?
Thanks.
Do you use Sprite Backup? Sometimes a restore can cause that to happen. They have a utility that worked for me:
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/a...il.zip&search=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0
Thanks the link you suggested worked, the count is now 0 like it should be. It even worked too good, it also erased my email and mms accounts, which I now cannot get to work again... Well, just have to install them again I guess, at least that annoying faulty sms count is gone now.
Glad it worked. The included .txt file does say that it will wipe everything clean and to be sure you're backed up with whatever's needed.
Hope you're back up and running.
Yeah, I read the .txt file. The app itself showed what items would be deleted, but never mentioned that it would delete all the mail settings and accounts as well. As it turns out, I couldn't get my MMS composer to work after I ran the program, so I hard reset the device and runned my backup on it. Now my MMS composer is back, my mail accounts and settings are back, but the annoying corrupt sms count is back as well off course. I plan to hard reset and reinstall all my apps manually anyway, since I am having more trouble at the farm, so I will then as a side benefit also be rid of the corrupt sms counts. But thanks anyway for your help.

I have the same problem after apply the patch of the Sprite. I make a hard reset but when I restaure again I disable 2 directory UAContents and folder of MMS. Now it works perfectly
That sounds as the thing I have been looking for. How did you disable the folders in your restore? When I restore, I cannot disable any folders, Sprite just puts back all my apps, folders, settings etc. Can you tell me how exactly did you leave out those folders? Should I do this when making a back up ( thereby losing the folders after the hard reset) or when restoring ( can you show me how to leave them out when restoring?). Can you tell me where the folders are located on my Compact?
It's necessary to exit of elementary mode. You can find it in Option. I don't arrive to understand in English, look here and here
Ok, thanks! I did the restore from my desktop PC, but I see that from my SD card I can choose to leave some folders out of the restore. Thanks for your help!
After applying the patch, when MMS composer dissapeares, you can install it again from Extended ROM. For me it was OK.
P/S/ To make ExtROM visible run LoadVDisc program from Windows folder
Hi all,
I've looked through both this board and the one for the G1 but can't find answer yet, which surprised me. Anyway, quick question.
I want to use an mp3 for my sms tone/notification! This should be easy but HTC seem to have made it difficult again. I know on old phones like the touch you had to put the file on the phone, in the sounds folder in system directory. Then you could pick it from standard list. Painful, but not a problem.
Unfortunately on my magic, I am unable to copy the file into the standard notifications folder as (when looked at using filedroid) the folder is shown as write only.
Thought I'd be able to remove the write only by plugging into computer, but that only seems to give me access to the sd card.
I have downloaded some applications that manage it, but it's all a bit of a faf. Is there a way to put it somewhere, or get phone to look at folder on sd card?
Bit long winded, sorry.
Thanks for any help.
Steve
Create a folder on your sdcard called "notifications" - any mp3s in there should then show up for selection.
Likewise "alarms" for custom alarm tones and "ringtones" for custom ringtones.
Nope. Tried that to no avail. It's really weird. I have since found an application called Rings Extended that seems to manage it without any real messing around. So I guess I will just have to carry on using that for now.
Sorry Codemonkey, please scratch my last comment. Although the rings extended works well, you appear to be correct in your response. Unfortunately I didn't realise the need to reboot the phone after creating the folder, and after each subsequent addition of tracks/sounds etc. It only seems to update when phone turns back on.
Thanks for your response.
As you've been so helpful, I wonder if you can help out on something else.
I now have my notifications set up the way I want, with the exception of email. At present it puts a notification icon up, which is fine and dandy. But it also sends out a noise, seemingly the same notification used for SMS. Is there a way to disable the noise, just for email?

Why thank you very much. You are a treasure.

Helpful people, please help again. The email notification (now thankfully silent) is set to show in the status bar.....perfect. But....it also flashes the LED, can I turn off the flashing just for email. I like having the visual status bar, so when I have unread email I know it, but as emails are always popping in, the phone is nearly always constantly flashing. Really annoying. I don't mind it flashing for SMS, but sometimes you just want to ignore email
I know it can be done on th Hero. Thanks in advance.
Ok so before I get flamed, I have spent hours using the search feature looking for an answer. I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered, feel free to delete this thread but I'm desparate for an answer.
As the title states, I can't delete my sms messages. I send about 400 a day not including messages received. I'm stuck at about 8k messages and I'm on my 4th hard reset since I got the phone 2 days before it came out.
As I'm sure you guys are aware, the phone won't delete more than few hundred at a time. When I have this many messages in my inbox the phone behaves ridiculously slow to the point where its unusable.
I did find one solution involving the command prompt and several adb commands, but it didn't work for me.
If anyone has a solution It would be greatly appretiated.
Again, I apologize in advance if this has already been covered.
I know if you are using Handcent SMS, it takes awhile to delete a lot of SMS. I had about 400 in a threaded conversation with my GF, and when Handcent started to lag because I had so many, I had to delete them. It took probably about 1-2 mins to delete the whole thread. So just press delete and wait like an hour or so haha.
yea i had about 2k messages and my phone wouldnt delete em, what i did was wipe, felt like my only choice, just start deleting all those messages after it gets to 500 (unless u really need all 8k of those messages). the messages do get stored in your phone so eventually it will lag the hell out of your phone. you can also use fresh pre kitchen, it has a tool i saw for deleting text messages and backing them up, i cant say it works or not because i never used it. worth taking a chance tho
if your rooted use fresh kitchen to backup and delete all your text's
Not using handcent, and I really would like to avoid having to delete my messages everyday. An auto delete program/feature might be the best option for me if either exists.
This saddens me because my old touch with wm6 would hold 30k messages just fine

+1 It works great and its way faster than doing it manually
Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2
In addition to the pre-kitchen option, I hear that Android 2.1 has an option for deleting them after a set amount of time?

or even better, to back them up to the SD card before deleting them (just in case)...that'd be sweet
Every single time i reboot the phone, i get the "129" text msg with blank content. It has the little memory card symbol. I think i click save to memory card by accident one time. I tried clicking move to phone and delete it right after. It didn't work. anyone has a solulation?
Yea its a stock message preloaded on the memory card. Easiest way is to push and hold select "move to phone" then repeat and just delete it. Next time your phone boots it should be gone -Cheers
What I've seen has to do with that "129" message being saved on the SD card. Once I found it and deleted it, I stopped getting it on every reboot.

i'm still getting it!!!!
Took my sim card out and reboot. Still got the text msg.
Try popping your SIM into another phone that can read the text messages on the card, and delete it from there. Other members with the HD2 have reported having to do that to get it to stay deleted (the HD2 seems to have an issue with that).
The one time I called TMO support about 129 was a couple of years ago, on a $35 nokia pre paid phone. At the time they explained that it happens when a text message either doesn't immediately go/come through.
I get it occasionally on the HD2. I just delete it.
I delete the text msg and shut off the phone. Before turning it on, i remove the memory card but i still get the same text msg.
I just had this pop up when I upgraded to the T-Mobile 2.13 ROM. The way I permanently got rid of it was to delete it normally (from the Inbox) AND go to All Messages, select Deleted Messages, and delete it from the Deleted Messages.
It seems because it is a "system" message it gets stored to the SIM, and if you just delete it from the SMS inbox it comes back since it is still in the Deleted Messages folder, and the SIM must restore it after a reboot.
Deleting from both places made sure it was gone for good.
