USB connector damaged - suggestions - HD2 General

Hello
I have a Leo that will no longer charge through the USB (although my PC can establish an AS connection with it). Battery is ok (can charge it in another Leo, for instance). I think that the USB connector is damaged can anyone suggest a place where I could order a replacement connector from?
I could send this unit to HTC but I'm in Brazil and this would mean sending it to Europe.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Good point. I just thought that he must have tried that already.
Expansys sells the cable. It's $10.99(US) from their Brasil web site - http://www.expansys.com.br/s.aspx?search=188901 but I don't think they will have any stock for 10 days (my languages aren't too good - I'm Scottish, English is hard enough LOL). The Expansys UK site sells the cable for £8.49 plus plus shipping. Here is the link: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=188901.
A quick Google (other search providers are available LOL) or a search of the Accessories section for HD2 here at XDA may provide other options.
Regards.

Cable OK
Yes, I've tried it with another cable - no use, so that's how I figured out it must be a damaged USB socket

For a short term solution you could try finding a battery charger on Ebay...

You haven't accidentally ticked the "Do not charged when connected to a PC" box under the battery status?

Car charger for xda2

Hi anyone can help me here,
I need to know what is the voltage and current for charging a xda2. I am looking at modifying a nokia phone car charger to charge my xda2. From what i have read, it the output 5V and 2A (i took this from the cradle) but can the current be lower than 2A to charge. Thanks.
I do not know how you could do this, but have you tried this?
http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=XDACC
It is a car charger and sync cable in one, so looks like good value..
5-6V, 500 mA should do it.
Just take care you use the correct polarity on the connector.

Why bother? Standard O2 USB sunc cable is only £12 from eXpansys and will charge the XDA from any powered USB port (eg your laptop/desktop) and you can buy generic cig lighter USB adapters for about £8. No risk, no hassle

Because there are always people who like to experiment.
And why throw something old away if it can be adapted for something new with minimal effort?
Good answer!!

Yes it can. All the old XDA stuff was only 1A. A USB port (powered without external power) is in the region of 500ma.
The only thing with lowering the current is that tha XDA2 is sensetive to discharge.i.e. less than 25% battery power and it wont charge via USB!!
Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the help. I think my only answer to not spending the dollar is more towards wire management. My current charger wire is retractable and when i am not using it, it retracts back and keep the dahboard clean & neat. As i charge my BT and also xda2 in my car, the number of wires sticking out is quite messy. Not sure if all has the same problem but it's just me wanting to be neat.

*Please help* Broken USB Plug

Hi,
this morning i found my Xda2 with the usb plug...broken! It's impossible to put into the crandle.
Is there any way to repair it?
Where can i take replacement hw?
Thanks
Do you mean the plug on the cradle, or the socket in the PDA?
If the plug is broken, you can get sync/charge cables, and cradles from anywhere that sells qtek/imate/xda accessories such as ebay or www.expansys.com
If you mean the socket is broken, you will have to find a local service centre, but they will probably charge you for a whole new board which will be expensive.
If you can't afford this, the only way around is to buy a spare battery and charge these alternately in the cradle, and sync over bluetooth/irda.

Help!! Can only charge through usb!

Hi
I've looked through the threads and can't find any posts with this problem.
My phone has stopped charging through the cradle or car charger. It syncs and charges through the usb and my wired sat nav connects up but neither method charges my phone. Obviously the battery will die down quick when I use my tom tom so I need that to work and only being able to charge via usb is a pain and inconvienient.
What can I do to fix it??
sounds like the chargers power supplie has blown buy a new one.
well no, cause it doesn't charge with the car charger either. so its a problem with the xda. Or did you mean buy a new XDA?
maybe the connector is broken and the pins which do the charge from other sources then the usb connectors is disconnected
you can 1 make a cable which have an usb connector in the end and AC or Car power in the other
you can change or pay somebody to change the connector in the xda
or you can buy a new pda
thanks. Know anyone who does repairs?
sorry no
and even if i did this being a somewhat international forum
me saying "yeah the guy down my street have a mobil shop and he can do it" would not help much

[Q] Chargining cable question

Hey all,
Do I need a special cable for charging my G2 (i.e. do I have to buy one from T-Mobile, or can I buy a generic USB cable)?
Thx
Mark
I use both generic - that I purchased separately - and HTC - the one included in the package - cables on my Desire Z and see no difference (except the price if I had bought an HTC cable ).
I did the same with my HD2 and it worked nice too.
The only difference that you could have is that some generic cables only charge and cannot sync (mine does both).
Yup, any industry standard micro-USB cable will work just fine. You can usually find one of the Blackberry ones for a couple bucks...
Thanks for the replies....
Is there a way to tell if the cable will work for both data and charging?
Thx
Sometimes you can find the information in the specifications.
The retractable USB cables that I have only charge.
The usual non-retractable cables I have charge and sync.
But this is not a universal rule.
In order to be sure of what you'll buy I suggest you to ask the question to the manufacturer/seller if the information is not clearly mentioned.
I have a bunch of old mini-USB cables from my G1 (chargers, car, sync, etc.). What I did is just got same amount of mini-to-micro USB adapters with strap and use old cables for G2 or G1 whenever I need them. Pretty handy.
i just bought one from new egg.com.... they have them in 3ft, 6ft, 10 ft and 15ft all for 4 bux
monoprice.com has good prices, as does ebay.

If you're looking for a retractable that supports data, I got a GigaWare that does that. I think I found it at Radio Shack.

Dell Venue Pro Charging issue and not recognized on pc

I recently bought a used dell venue pro unlocked 32GB version. I see few issues, hope some one can help me with the resolution.
Phone charges only when it almost discharged or dead.
If I remove the phone in the middle of charging, it does not continue to charge.
Once charged, battery discharges very quickly.
Zune does not recognize the phone. I am able to enter download mode, but not able to update any software.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Did you acquire a new battery or is that the original battery?

If you can obtain another battery, try swapping it out and see if the behavior is the same.

Is the cable you are using the one that was acquired with the unit? Does the cable you are using to connect work as a sync/data cable with other phones? There are cables out there that are just charging only as they short out the data pins and/or ground the data lines. if you can lay you hands on an OEM Dell or an OEM Nokia Data Cable you should be able to sync with Zune, unless the data pins on the phone are bad or shorted out on the handset.
The cable bundled with the VP is a standard microUSB cable.
The pins are supposed to be shorted on the charger itself, shorting the pins on the cable itself isnt the right thing to do.
That said if your cable can be used to connect any other microUSB device, it should work (as far as the cable is concerned).
I do not have the original cable or charger ..I am using the cable and charger that I got with Nokia Lumia 710..I am able to sync and charge my Nokia phone perfectly..
It it is a port problem then I would expect it not to charge even once ?
