Dell Venue Pro Charging issue and not recognized on pc - Venue Pro General

I recently bought a used dell venue pro unlocked 32GB version. I see few issues, hope some one can help me with the resolution.
Phone charges only when it almost discharged or dead.
If I remove the phone in the middle of charging, it does not continue to charge.
Once charged, battery discharges very quickly.
Zune does not recognize the phone. I am able to enter download mode, but not able to update any software.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you acquire a new battery or is that the original battery?

If you can obtain another battery, try swapping it out and see if the behavior is the same.

Is the cable you are using the one that was acquired with the unit? Does the cable you are using to connect work as a sync/data cable with other phones? There are cables out there that are just charging only as they short out the data pins and/or ground the data lines. if you can lay you hands on an OEM Dell or an OEM Nokia Data Cable you should be able to sync with Zune, unless the data pins on the phone are bad or shorted out on the handset.

The cable bundled with the VP is a standard microUSB cable.
The pins are supposed to be shorted on the charger itself, shorting the pins on the cable itself isnt the right thing to do.
That said if your cable can be used to connect any other microUSB device, it should work (as far as the cable is concerned).

I do not have the original cable or charger ..I am using the cable and charger that I got with Nokia Lumia 710..I am able to sync and charge my Nokia phone perfectly..
It it is a port problem then I would expect it not to charge even once ?

Request: mini USB pin layout

Hi I'd like to know whats the USB pin layout on the O2 Atom as my mini USB plug fell off and I'm trying to solder it back to gather.
So far i manage to get it charging again but I cant get data through it.
Also I wonder if anyone can tell me how to make a USB charging cable so that i can plug it into the PC and charge without activesync(without using WM5storage, just plug and charge) or I can charge via car charger(I know this can be done with a special adaptor but I'd like to make my own)
Help is very much appreciated Thx.
well i suppose that no one really know about it so if possible for those who already have thier Atoms opened up, take a high ress pic of the USB plug showing the pins and post it for me.
thx

actually i have a cable(which came with a universal battery pack) that allows me to do what i want but its in a bad shape hence I'd like to make another.
usb is pretty much usb htc's carry audio too but people report that normal miniusb in 1 end and usb in the other works just fine
and any device connected to usb's 5volt and ground get power even if the pc dont see it as a usb device it still provide 5volt and 0.5amps to them
thats how usb cup wamers and plastic dogs humping the usb port works
See here @ Wikipedia for details on pin-outs

HD2's data cable.. is it micro USB?

I can't seem to find a usb to "whatever it is" wire selling..
is it a standard micro USB port?

yes... u r rite... itz a MICRO USB...
But it can't supply power to a USB device, so it can't be used like a PC USB port. It's only good for recharging and syncing.
so if i want to buy an additional wire, i look for a USB to MICRO USB wire right? no need to buy from HTC right?
cause i saw one usb that is smaller but it doesn't fit.. is there a MINI USB port too?
am confused

Erm yes it can,
Actually better take the device with you. Sellers here told me there is like 7 different very similar connectors. However this one should be the standard micro USB, which is supposed to be universal charger/sync cable in the future (at least in EU).
And yes, of course, there is mini USB. And there even are more versions of mini USB, for example HTC used their own.
You had better use HTC cables. HD2 is microusb, but not all microusb cables are good for HD2. Like iPhone, it takes a large charging current, and many no brand cables cannot do it. I've got a third party cable that syncs only, but if charged from the PC, the HD2 will say that the charging current is too small. Battery actually drops when I connect HD2 to PC using this cable (because my options set it that backlight is always on when HD2 is connected). Other combinations are OK:
original cable + AC plug: charging OK
original cable + PC: charging OK
third party cable + AC plug: charging OK
third party cable + PC: "insufficient charging current"
Be careful with cables- you'd be better to buy the genuine HTC version.
Many USB/MicroUSB cables are for charging only, and don't have the data pins connected. Thats OK if you just want to charge it while you are away from your main PC or power supply.
You can also buy a miniUSB/MicroUSB adapter for charging using and older miniSUB charger, but again these don't have the data pins connected.
I bought a number of 3rd party USB to microUSB cables a month ago for sync and charging (office, PC, bedside charging), so far so good... no issues (maybe I'm lucky). The OmniaII uses the same connector, so I'm using the HTC car charger to charge both.
I bought Nokia's cable (for E71,N97,etc.) and it work just fine with charging from laptop. much cheaper than HTC in here.
if you are going for the cheapo option...
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=MICRO+USB+SYNC%26+CHARGE+CABLE+for+HTC+HD2+HD+2+Leo+T8585
i got a couple from ebay - arrived the next day. - charge/sync fine.
charger from iPhone
The iPhone charger coud be used for charging HD2. Just plug the microUSB cord instead of iPhones and ... voila. The same outputs
N86-8megapixel cable doesnt work..
So I managed to leave my HTC cable at work (2 days after getting the Telstra HD2 in OZ) and now I am on 4-5 days leave from work and really want to tinker with my phone. I think I may end up having to go back to work to collect the HTC cable - as below... challenge to get non-HTC cable to work.
I found that my wife's N86-8megapixel nokia has a similar micro-usb cable.
When connected to the PC the phone starts charging and the PC does the "doo-doop" sound a "appears" to connect to the phone, but active sync cannot detect the phone \ sync.
I see others have had success with nokia cables - I am wondering if there is something wierd going on.

Charger Recognized As USB Mass Storage

Hey guys. I seem to be having a problem with my Android HD2. It seems that the phone recognizes certain chargers as USB. The phone allows the option to enable USB Mass Storage and turns on debugging mode.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem since the phone still charges fine, except for the fact that it limits the incoming current to 280mA. The main charger for my HD2 is a powermat which puts out 1A but when the phone is dropped onto the mat it recognizes it as USB and limits the charging current to 280mA so it charges rather slowly. All the powermat receiver door is connected by is 2 pins. The little 3 pin interface that is underneath the battery door is where it interfaces at via thw two outer pins one for + and one for -.
I thought I had seen this issue on XDA before but for the life of me I can't find the article. I thought I remembered someone saying that you had to short something with a resistor to stop the phone from thinking the charger is USB. Does anyone know of this problem?
I have the same issue and looking for any answers. Using Android 2.3.2 on HD2.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I've had this issue with apple chargers. I am guessing here but I think it is because the iphone chargers send some sort of authentication data to the phone as a measure against unauthorized chargers. See this link for more info
http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/icharge.html
makes total sense i have heard of that its sort of a self protection
Yes, the new batch of apple chargers have some of the USB pins connected together to indicate that the device may draw more than 400mA from the charger.
It prevents my eBook from charging completely!
The only real way to fix it would be to butcher a USB cable to only connect the 2 power lines.
there are a few threads that talk about how to make some in car chargers NOT get recognised as a car kit, and that uses the same technique mentioned above, , ,namely shorting some of the pins. I assume the same principle will work here. You just need to find out which pins it is.

USB charging

I've noticed when I have my tablet plugged into my computer via USB it doesn't appear to be charging. The battery icon is showing a red lightning bolt. This is different than when I have my tab plugged into a wall socket.
Working as intended or..?
Your PC USB port can't supply enough juice (500ma max) compare to your wall socket (>2000ma) to charge while power the tab. Turn the tab off and your will get some charge off the USB port.

It's been charging my tab for about a month now with no problems at all, but I'm not here to argue, if you feel that you know more than I do. I've charged the tablet using that adapter from my laptop, PC, and Energizer XP4001 Power Pack.

The focus charger is rated only about 700ma (same exact one as Captivate/SGS), marginablly better than PC USB. GT 10.1 has a rather large battery and hence it requires much larger charge current. You don't see any laptop get charged via USB, do you?

Is that through the orginal AC adapter or through PC USB?
Turning off the tablet and charging it via USB works, but it takes forever!

And you are not the only one who is waiting twice as long before his tab is fully charged. Then we can open a topic "Why does it take so long before my tab is charged?" As foxbat stated: You don't see any laptop get charged via USB, do you?
So if I say your adapter doesn't work its just as accurate as your answer it does work.

Hey, I'm not here to argue with you. I'm just an idiot.
Go about your business, and don't listen. I'm ok with that.
First of all, not all USB ports are equal.
On many modern PCs, the USB ports can deliver more than 500mA over USB if required. This is definitely true for pretty much all Macs since 2007, and quite a few mainboards from other manufacturers (see this article for some background).
Secondly, I've had one of these adaptors for quite a while now, and have used it regularly to charge my Galaxy Tab 7" which uses exactly the same power supply and cables as the GT 10.1. I can categorically state that when using this adaptor, it the GT7 does charge from a Macbook Air and a 5000mAh external battery that has a 1A output USB port labelled for an iPad.
Whilst it might not be as quick as the wall charger, it is definitely much faster than attempting to charge the GT7 from the same devices without the adaptor, even if the device is in use.
I've not formally tried to charge my GT10.1 with it yet, but I did check to see if the "not-charging" indicator went away (which it did), so I rather presume it will work much like the GT7.
Regards,
Dave

You don't need to embarrass yourself by saying you're an idiot, It's very childish and the second time you mention I'm supposed to be smarter then you. I'm sorry you take this so personally.
i just use the supplied cable and it charges via usb on my computer. it shows not charging, but it basically trickle charges when the tab is both on and off

USB-C cable works only on one side Mi 9T Global Version

When my Mi 9T arrived, I upgraded to the latest version, Miui 10.3.11 ... Since then the USB cable only works on one side, even being type C. Has anyone had this problem?
Have you tried other cables?
I have 3 or 4 and an USB OTG adapter and all of them work perfectly.

Then it's a defective unit. In the test menu you test the cable on both sides. If it only works on one side, its a failed test and the phone is defective. Hopefully you have warranty or bought the phone recently and you can return it

I doubt it. Are you trying the USB cable with power charging or data connection? If the problem is with data connection then yeah it might be a software issue but if the phone won't even charge then it has to be a faulty connection because most phones, if not all, are designed to charge even when the phone is broken or has no OS

Don't worry yourself if it charges on PC or not cause there are a lot of variables there. If it charges on both sides when connected to the charger, and gets recognized on both sides when connected to PC, then nothing wrong with the device. Other than that it's a hardware issue
