Hello everyone. After some researching, this seemed like the best site to answer my question, as I have not found an answer yet.
Yesterday morning, I was running my ATT 8525 (which I believe you refer to as "hermes") just fine. I was using the internet sharing feature, and went to reset the phone. I "believe" I pressed the power button while pressing the "ptt- push to talk" - button. The phone turned off, and when I turned the phone back on, rather than loading like it normally did, I got a new screen.
The screen has 4 color bars. A red bar at the top, then a green bar, then a blue bar, and last, a white bar of color on the bottom. Each bar takes up 1/4 of the screen and runs horizontally. At the top, the phone says, in white text:
HERM100
1PL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
At the bottom of the screen, in the white bar of color, in black text, it says
SERIAL
Now, when I press the power button to turn the phone off, nothing happens. I have to remove the battery to shut off the power. If I plug in a USB cable, the SERIAL text changes to USB. If I press the top two buttons, the one above window and the one above ok, while pressing the stick in to reset the phone, that screen works ok. I believe it is called a "hard reset" It asks if I want to erase all data and restore factory settings, and if so, press r. I press R on the keyboard, and the screen then says reset complete, press space. I press space and then I am back to the screen with 4 color bars. Nothing else I have tried works either. I have been stuck on this screen with 4 color bars since yesterday.
I took my cell phone in to ATT to be looked at and the sales people at the store say that I am 7 days past my warranty, and that they can't/won't repair the phone, but they would be happy to sell me a brand new one... for several hundred dollars.
So, the folks on the internet are my last hope =( If anyone reading this knows anything, even if it is a link to another site or something, that may help me resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, I at least thank you for your time reading my post.
- Wormling
Oh, as an additional thought, if it helps, I have not used any of these :baked: roms or any such thing. I bought my phone and used it as is. The one and only change I ever did to my phone was I followed ATT's steps on upgrading from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6, if I remember their names correctly. Hope this helps.
Bootloader. This is the name of the screen according to my research.
"Is your device able to boot Windows Mobile OS?
This one is easy: If can you see your today screen and use your phone as a PDA means you can boot OS. If you only see the splash screen, bootloader screen (tri-color) or windows mobile splash screen you can't boot OS."
Got this from the thread at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
So, I guess I am stuck at the bootloader screen.
Try a Hard reset - hold both soft keys and reset with stylus. Hold in until it asks to reset to factory (whatever). Press "r" on the slideout keyboard and then space. You should go back throught the setup PPC steps.
YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR HERMES...This is unescapable as you would any other way you tried to recover your Hermes too.
I suggest if you get it working to install Hard SPL V7 (makes recovery easier) and also pim backup so you can restore all your contacts/messages if something goes wrong again.
Cheers... & good luck.
I have tried hard resetting many times, and it does not work. It says that it succeeds and that factory settings have been restored, and then I am back to the bootloader screen. I have been to the wiki on bricked hermes phones and recovering from a brick. From that, I ascertain I have a type 2 bricked phone (goes directly to bootloader screen). I tried the MTTY tool, and it says that the NAND write was successful on both commands, but, I am still stuck at bootloader screen. I have since tried installing a few different roms, even in SSLL and HARDSPL modes, and nothing has worked.
What I have not tried is the JPIN fix, as I am not an engineer and don't have the tools or knowledge on how to do that. I also don't know how to do the microsoft operating system download fix (using an emulator?)
** UPDATE **
I think it might have been the mtty commands, but I took the battery out overnight, and when I put the battery back in to try the KITL attempt, the phone booted up and started to do the config. I was happy and thought that the phone was fixed, but when it was done with the configurating the phone, it reset back into boot loader screen -_-
You may need to check for bad blocks. This sometimes causes the problems you descibe as well as spontaneous Hard Resets and occasional soft resets.
Do a search for "how to fix bad blocks hermes" and you should get the info you need...
Hope this helps...
Hey,
I had my HD 2 for 2 days now.
It just crash on me for the first time soft rest the unit now it well not boot up anymore stuck in the HTC with white background screen and the rom version at the left bottom side.
Tried removing battery nothing still stuck.
I tried to hard rest the pda but cannot get it to hard rest.
Can someone explain how to hard rest what do you have to do hold the volume key up or down and switch the unit on tried it but nothing.
Please any help.
Thanks
Gigino
Have a look here (point 15) on howto do the reset(s)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Good luck..
Same as Gigino, my HD2 is only giving me white HTC screen. I haven't even had it long enough to connect it to my pc. No messing around. It locked up about 5 times in the 5 days I have had it. Each lock up was only resolved with the battery removal. Curiously no lockups until I set an alarm.
The difference between my issue and Gigino is that I do not have the rom version showing up at reboot, just the white screen. Hardware issue, or software?
Followed the Hard Reset procedure as outlined by HTC and your link above. The reset commands are recognized, but after reload, back to white HTC screen.
Bricked?
If you cant get functionality back by taking the battery out or by soft or hard resetting then theres not much more you can do. You could try taking the battery out and giving it a full charge with the mains charger provided but I dont think that will do much good.
As long as you havent flashed a new rom with the goldcard then call your service provider. If you got a sim free phone then call the place where you bought it as its covered by warantee. You should be able to get it replaced if theres a fault.
the same thing happened to me after 2 weeks with phone, I'd had no problems with the phone then one morning while using opera it froze. I had to remove the battery to try and reboot the phone but it wouldn't boot past the htc screen. eventually after removing the battery several times the phone wouldn't even turn on, also the phone got very hot with the battery in. I called htc and told them and they picked up it for repair. it looks like they couldn't fix it cos they sent me a replacement phone. they returned the phone to me within a week.
HTC White Screen of Death
Thanks, guess I feel a bit better knowing it wasn't anything I did..and that I am not alone in this world of WSOD
I have contacted the seller and haven't heard back yet. I don't imagine it will be a problem. Perhaps above and beyond the alarm clock/freezing thread a WSOD thread is in order until it is determined if they are related.
Thanks all.
GR8
Update;
I pulled battery and replaced so device is off. Charged over night and the orange power charging light didn't go off or go green by morning. device was hot.
Get this though, when I pull the phone off the charger the orange light doesn't go out!. Now the phone won't turn on either. Had to pull battery again to make orange light go out and when it powered back up, back to HTC whit screen.

I don't know what is the cause.
But it is really pissing me off.
The only solution out is to do a "hard" reset by holding volume up and down TOGETHER while doing that .... press the power on button for about 1 second ... then ONLY let go the "power on" button which still hold volume up and down.
You should see the screen to restore to factory default .... and proceed to do so.
I have encounter quite a number of times but after trying various "solution" ... it still happens.
By the way, I am using cooked ROM (which I don't think is the problem).

I encounter similar situation .... was installing the new taskbar .... then it took very long ..... so while the installation in progress thingy is still in the middle .... I did a soft reset ... then it start up till the white screen and stock there and showing the ROM version etc at the bottom left.
So have to do a Restore to Factory Default to get it up and running again.
Seems there is something really wrong with this model.
I have it for two months now and lots of issues.
Now it is with HTC for repair as I also have the white screen with green HTC issue.
Nothing helped Hard Reset nor flashing rom.
I can't wait to get it back ;-)
Tons of issues with this phone, but my love for it is just a bit bigger than the hate.
hello all gettin frustrated here too bout a week ago my brick started and stopped on std rom reflashed duttys 1.3 and new radio.was fine for a few days then it seemed to crash and hard reset by itself.now i have a crash every day which inccurs a hard reset very annoying........gets stuck at boot screen as does every ones.now if you if your like me and have HSPL,cooked rom and upgraded radio.....sorry htc....and are sending it back for repair, you should still be able to activate bootloader mode and reflash std rom/radio.if its like mine after flashin it might behave as normal again untill next crash.so.........
1. Turn your phone off
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear
3.connect it to your pc it should install drivers.the screen should now say "USB"
4.reflash with std rom/radio (should be located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787 and bingo HTC are none the wiser and it may restart again if it does dont trust it!!!!!!!!
i think i read somwhere that a shipped rom will remove HSPL but you might want to clarify that with a senior member here.

If you flash a shipped rom via activesync as you described then the HardSPL will be left intact and HTC will be the wiser and will invalidate your warranty.
The only way to remove the HardSPL is to flash a shipped rom via microSD Card which will flash the shipped rom, radio and spl back and will leave you with a stock device.
White screen with HTC logo is a hardware defect
I also have the issue with not booting HD2 after less than a month of use . It shows white screen and green HTC logo but without the red digits in the bottom part of the screen. And one more strange behavior to mention - when phone is switched off and I connect it to the charger it starts itself after 30sec approximately.
What is inside:
Original SPL with an original ROM but for different region than the one which originally was inside. I flashed it by SSPL (without using HSPL).Only ROM was flashed without radio as radio was the same.
What checks were done:
1)Soft reset
2)Removing of battery
3)Hard reset several times
4)Flashing back with the original ROM through ActiveSinc and cable from computer. As the original SPL is intact this should return it to the factory condition. After flashing I did 2 hard resets. But no change - still showing white screen on boot up.
Finally I gave it to the repair workshop. They confirmed that this is a hardware problem and sent it for repair in authorized HTC service.
Suggest that this is a problem with a bad soldered chip (integrated circuit) during manufacturing of the PCB. In this case the power controller chip is suspected. The contact pad of the chip and solder are touching each other and phone works. With the time passing the contact surface oxidate and contact is lost. So initially the phone will work but reset itself occasionally while the contact is instable and will stop fully to operate when the contact is completely lost. Only replacement of defective PCB can rectify this problem. Trials to re-solder the chip are usually not successful. This is purely manufacturing defect. However sometimes it may happen if you drop down your phone.
i had same problem, it was stuck on first white screen with some version numbers in red in bottom left.
I did a hard reset and it got fixed.
i had not installed anything or flashed anything. it just got stuch at that screen 1 fine day for no reason

WSOD FIX
To all the people having WSOD issues, check your microSD cards. I had this issue while ago with the white HTC screen and NO RED TEXT and I norrowed the problem down to my microSD card. When taking it out of the HD2, it would boot up fine. So I plugged my card into a USB adapter on my PC, formatted it and then put it back into the HTC. Everything worked fine.
EDIT: My HD2 is a T8585 and is unbranded bought from UK. I have always been using the stock 1.66 WWE ROM
I have exactly the same prob as camo.b, and right now I`m formatting my SD card, hoping that I'll be able to at least restore the SPL so that the warranty will still be available. I'm bringing it in tomorrow, if everything turns out to be fine with my SPL...

My HD2 will not let me flash anything, even though I can get into the bootloader screen. Right now it's semi-bricked, and I have tried flashing a stock ROM via both usb and sd card, I have tried using task29, I have even tried uninstalling HSPL, but nothing works. Everything fails, either at the beginning, at the middle or at the end of the operation.
I flashed it with a shipped rom and he works,
I was unable to do a hard reset with any card still in the device. be sure both sim and sd card are removed, then reinstall battery and follow vol up/down etc. procedures. good luck.
hello all, i need help again this time.
let's get to the point.
this morning, i tried to charge my G1 because the battery has yellow color.
when i charged the phone, after around 5 minutes, suddenly my G1 restart itself and then after the "G1" logo, the screen go all black, sometimes not all black but there's a little glitch (white-green-purple-all little colors.)
the phone got heated on the bottom part everytime i power-on it, even just on battery (not charged).
i tried "Camera + Power", it's only getting to that red-blue-green-white screen that shows :
"DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT - 0.95.0000
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.23.02
Sep 2 2008
Serial0"
Click to collapse
and it stops there for AGES . won't do anything.
i tried "Home + Power", i tried to hold down that two buttons for 25 second more, but it keeps normal boot, shows G1 logo, and then black screen again.
i tried "Menu + Power", it just the same as "Home + Power"
my G1 has never been rooted, it's all original, i haven't done any system upgrading-downgrading things.
the charger is the original one, original from htc
the battery is new, i've just changed it one month ago.
that's all the informations that i can give.
so, anyone can help me solving this problem?
if its not rooted or anything than that means its HTC's fault not yours. and since you cant access the recovery menu to flash a new rom or recover a nandroid backup, it sounds like you're up ****s creek with a turd for a paddle.... unless somebody has developed a way of flashing without recovery. in other words; get a new phone or send it in to t-mobile.
Get an SD card reader an put a DREIMG.nbh on your sdcard to downgrade to RC29 (push power+camera, select confirm), then wait for the OTA to push you to DMD64. You will loose all your data but at least your phone will work.
Alternatively, after downgrading to RC29 you can exploit the bluetooth bug to gain root access, and after that install CM5.0.8 and be twice as happy with you chunky old G1.

Call+Menu+Power is for a reboot while the phone is on lol. Only other way is "blue light mode" which is trackball and power, but I don't feel like explaining it to you=p.

hey, i'm back.
after days to days downloading DREAIMG.nbh again and again, finally i got the right DREAIMG.nbh, not corrupted one.
and yes, i successfully update, all stuff are signed "OK" , and then i press the action (trackball) button, restart the phone, and guess what? it turns back to the beginning problem, still. "G1" logo, and then turn to whole black screen.
so, now what?
am i bricked?
or is it hardware problem? (remember i said that everytime i turn on the phone, the down part, near sim card, is always getting heated)
the only screen that can be accessed is that rainbow screen and the update screen (Camera + Power).

im pretty sure the heat issue comes from the processor, not the sim card. mine does that too. its nothing to worry about as long as you havent overclocked your device (mine is overclocked and works great aside from gettin warm during heavy usage.) what happens when you plug the phone into usb? does it show the SD card or can you get into the android sdk? its a long shot as i doubt you can get into debug mode without having a uncorrupted os, but i guess its worth a shot.

so when i plug the phone into usb, it's just charging, no SD card recognizing on my computer.
And how can i get into Android SDK ?

Hello,
EDIT - Ok I'm just adding this bit to my post to summ up the whole situation from Post 1 until Post 14 in dot points
- HTC HD2, Began randomly freezing to "HTC" screen, when reset, loads "HTC" Screen and vibrates 5-6 times, sometimes let me goto OS, but at one point stopped letting me goto OS, Stuck at "HTC" Screen with the 5-6 Mysterious vibrations.
- I tried to flash a ROM off the HTC HK Website, 1.78 I think, Stuck at 9%, Those 6-7 Vibrations, tried again, same thing stuck at 9% with Vibrations.
- Tried another factory ROM from HTC HK the latest one, Flashed 100% the first time through, but then does not boot, just stuck at "HTC" Screen with vibrating
- Tried to flash same ROM again, begins vibrating and stuck at 9%
- I wanted to try if some custom ROMS worked, flashed HSPL 1.42 on, while flashing HSPL it finished on the device but on computer I got "Unknown Error
0x1003FF"
- Continued and went on to upgrade my HSPL to 2.08 so I can flash custom ROMS, now I have 2.08 HSPL.
- I tried Artemis Custom Rom for LEO, this one after it finished I think brang me past the "HTC" Screen, it actually said "quietly brilliant" for the first time, and to some Windows config screen where this Error appeared :
ARM11 FATAL ERROR
flash_os_wm.c line 339
- So I tried resetting, and stuck at "HTC" Screen, but No constant vibrating, only 1 vibrate.
- I tried Cheetah ROM, same problem, stuck at "HTC" Screen.
- I tried "NRG" ROM, same problem stuck at "HTC" Screen, well the NRG Screen.
- I tried Kumars ROM, same problem again. stuck at at the bootup screen.
I should mention whenever flashing, on the computer it never tells me what my current Image version is, it just tells me the one i'm flashing to. e.g the "FROM" field is blank. That's it until now.
Also everytime while at the bootup screen, it cycles e.g it will Vibrate, show bootup screen, do nothing, go black... then repeat the bootup screen, vibrate etc etc etc. After ROM is flashed, if I do a soft reset it will just stay at the bootup screen and not do anything at all.
Hard reset doesn't help either, neither does battery out/in, same thing just stuck at the intro screen with all the ROMS I try.
If anybody knows what the problem could be, please post.
ORIGINAL POST BELOW BEFORE EDIT :
-------------------------------------------------
Whenever I turn on my HTC HD2 It's stuck at the white screen with "HTC" in the middle, it will vibrate on and off about 4 times, and after that it will do nothing.
A soft reset with the Red button under the battery cover just brings it to the same screen with the same problem.
Taking the battery out and putting back in does not help, same problem.
doesn't even want to respond to hard reset (Vol down + Vol Up) + Power Button briefly.
When I try to put it into the Diagnostic mode (Vol down + Power), and try to flash a ROM onto it,
It just gives a Error 294, Invalid Vendor, maybe because I was using a ROM that was not Hong Kong, I don't know but I cant try flash again as the device does not respond to anything now (like before but can't even get into boot mode).
So I'm stuck at the moment and can't do anything.
Before this it would sometimes want to start up, and then get stuck sometimes, but now it's constantly not booting up
and begin stuck at the HTC Screen with 4 vibrates.
Sometimes it even boots upto the "HTC" Screen, and doesn't vibrate at all.
And at the moment I can't even get it into Diagnostic mode, doesn't respond to anything other than the reset button.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
EDIT ----- > Now goes into boot mode, I found out that QUICKLY after reset doing vol- and power gets it into boot mode. But while trying to flash the ROM, on my computer it says NOTHING about the current Image ROM on the PC, Trying to update now, this time it goes into a Progress bar on the HD2, stuck at 9%, and funnily enough at 9% it does the same (Vibrate 4 times) thing. and is stuck at the moment.

Keep trying that hard reset method. Make sure both buttons are fully pressed and briefly press power button to get HSPL to appear.
Follow this guide:
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
1. With your phone powered off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
2. While holding the volume buttons, press the END/POWER button briefly and then release it.
3. When you see a warning message on screen, release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Thanks for the reply,
Sorry I was editting my post while you were replying, please read it again it has some updates on what is happening at the moment.
Got it to go into boot mode, SPL 3.03 Version, connected to USB, tried to update with HK ROM, stuck at 9% and does 4 x Vibrate, now stuck at 9% on phone and computer.
What should I do now?
Update - Error 262 on Computer (UPDATE ERROR) the ROM utility has encountered a communications errors during the update process
The computer guided me what to do :
1. Remove USB cable
2. Battery out, battery back in.
3. Start device up and flash again.
Device started at "Software update failed", i was able to plug the usb cable back in, and start flashing again.
at 4%, It vibrated 4-7 times while going from 4% to 9%, and progress stopped at 9% Again.
That vibrating I don't know why it's happening.
I even tried updating again, and it does the same thing, vibrates 4-7 times and then stops at 9% update.
Is the ROM I'm using a bad one? It's the HTC Hong Kong one from early 2010,
There is another one I can download which is from Late 2010, but it's SPL Version might be too high.
The reason I'm trying to update a ROM is to get an early SPL, so I can load HardSPL to use Custom Firmware.
EDIT -
Edit - I just tried Hard Reset, but it just goes to the "Software Update failed, please try again" screen. Tried to load ROM on again but still the same vibrating and stuck at 9% during update.
Hi,
Now I tried updating to a later HK ROM, and it updated but still now has the Green HTC Screen with the vibrating. The ROM that did the Vibrating during 3-9% and stuck at 9% was :
HTC HD2 RUU_Leo_HKCSL_WWE_1.72.831.1_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship.exe
And the one that Is Updating without problems and works fine is the newer one found on the HTC HK website :
HTC HD2 RUU_Leo_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.832.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
This one it lets me update all the way through, once it's complete the device goes black and does not respond to anything, Battery out and battery in and the device starts up, but goes to the HTC Screen, and then Vibrates 5 Times.
And then does not respond.
What is the problem??
Even tried a Hard Reset, and again it does the same thing.
Boots, Vibrates once on HTC Screen, 5 seconds later, it vibrates on/off about 7 times and that's it, stuck at HTC Screen.
Since those 2 ROMS don't work, is there any ROM or Software that I can try to put on that will let me somehow get my HD2 Working again.
I had the same problem. I fixed it by flashing radio version 2.15 and then re-flashing hardspl. Then i installed a custom winmo rom. After that my phone was fine.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
UPDATE !!
Ok this is getting very weird.
So I tried to flash the Later ROM that ORIGINALLY WENT ALL THE WAY THROUGH 100%.
THIS TIME, IT GETS STUCK AT 8%, and then the phone Vibrates 5 times just like the earlier ROM.
Does anybody know what this vibrating is indicating? I might try to ask HTC, but even though they developed the phone they would probably be of no help since they sent me a faulty phone back from Warranty.

Just info, I read that some users reported the same as you. And unfortunately, they have to bring it to HTC repair as this might relate to hardware malfunction.
If you are under warranty, you better bring it for repair.
Cheers

+1 for this. Most recently, there have been some users reporting multiple vibration patterns (usually 7 times) when turning on the phone. None of them was able to flash any ROM to bring back their HD2.
At least, most of them were able to install an original SPL before sending it to a service center. However, I never read anything about the final outcome.
The phone has already been through warranty once, and HTC's slack attitude and approach offended me greatly. They wrote on the paper "No Faults Found", which shows their reluctance towards fixing their faulty phones that they are bringing out to us. They just reflashed a ROM with appeared to "fix" the original voice problem I was having, but I didn't have enough time to test the phone out before it began malfunctioning and vibrating on startup when they send it back to me.
And the fee's and costs to get it to Hong Kong are just not worth it, having to pay the postage back from Hong Kong, plus to receive my HTC in worse condition than it was before I sent it to them.
HTC isn't what it used to be
Hi,
So i tried flashing to an older ROM I was shown to by users on the HTC HD2 forum,
It was 1.48, and It flashed all the way through, so then it didn't let me soft reset after the flash I think, so i took the battery out and put it back in.
After that It didn't do the vibrating, only vibrated once at the HTC Screen but was stuck at that.
Now though I am at SPL 1.42, so any point in trying to put HardSPL on and going to a Custom ROM? I just haven't been able to get any ROM to boot up yet past the HTC Screen.
Trying to reflash with the same ROM again this time it's stuck at 0% All the time.
So i tried updating to HardSPL, It got past the "We hacked it" Screen, but after that when it went to the Progress bar on the HTC HD2, on my computer I got the Error :
Unknown Error
0x1003FF
However now when I go into boot mode, It shows that I have HSPL Installted.
Now that I have HSPL, any tricks or Firmware I can flash to try fix these problems and try get a ROM working/booting?
I'm using Windows 7.
Another update - I put HSPL 2.08 on so I can flash Custom ROMS (well most of them i guess).
So i got Cheetah's ROM, I flashed it on and then after it was on, the HTC SCreen appeard, and then the ROM Version in Red letters at the bottom, but it did not boot up, so I did a reset, and then the HTC Screen comes up and is stuck at it.
UPDATE -- Did battery out / battery in, and It GOT PAST THE HTC SCreen, it displayed the "quietly brilliant" text, then it got into a windows screen, but then the Error
ARM11 FATAL ERROR
flash_os_wm.c line 339
I can't click "OK" on the window either its frozen.
A soft reset brings it to the "HTC" Screen with no more.
Battery out / in brings it to the Same "HTC" Screen but then it turns black for a sec, flashes,
then back to the "HTC" Screen, with no Red letters at the bottom, and it keeps going black,
then vibrate and back to HTC Screen continuously.
Sometimes though it will just be stuck at the "HTC" Screen with no Vibrating, just that screen.
I just tried flashing with the "NRG" ROM, I can't get past the "NRG" bootup screen now, soft reset or battery in/out does not help.
So far have tried 4 different custom ROMS, All give the same problem, stuck at the intro screen after the flash.
Also the installer on the computer doesn't say what my current Image is.
Any help greatly appreciated.
hello,
please try the following.
On the back of your phone, the battery cover (metalic) comes over 2 small metal pins. The phone will detect if these 2 pins make an electric contact, aka if the backplate is mounted. Some HTC have either microcontracts or magnetic sensors to prevent a phone to be flashed or to boot with the battery cover missing or improperly attached. This is because without the cover, there is a greater risk to have the battery disconnected or to fall, thus interrupting a reflash process.
Older HTC's would either prevent a bootup in case of missing cover or simply didn't start-up at all. I don't know what's with hd2 but i had one of them with exactly the same problem, and knowing that i checked those small metalic pins. One of them wasn't making a proper contact with the metalic cover, after i fixed that the phone was able to corecty flash a stock rom from the microsd card.
However, i repeat, i don't know if this is really the case with HD2, i may have just been lucky. One more thing, if in the end the phone woun't recover from this, i suspect a nand memory corruption. Kind of like bad sectors on a hard drive. Back some time ago, i only manage to fix a broken device with this problem after doing some welding on the cpu and connecting the board with a pc via jtag interface. Then i could mark the bad sectors as "unavailable" and correctly flash a bootloader.
Sorry for the english as i live in a non english speaking country.
LE. nevermind that, did a hardware check with some equipment, the battery cover issue is not the case with HD2. The problem seems thermal related, - if you cool the phone to 5-6 degrees celsius, the problem should either dissapear or occur less frequently. I suspect the CPU soldering to be crappy in this model, so when the chip heats up the small solder balls (the chip is BGA mounted) either don't make a proper contact due to dilatation in the chip itself or the solder materrial. Aah, i really don't know how to put it in english. However i still have a hd2 with this problem. It's worth disasembling it and trying some fancy soldering with a smd rework station.
HD2 vibrations
By me it was HARDWARE problem.
Try to give phone to 5 celsius for few minutes. After try to flash.
By it works, but after doesn't want to power on.
Hey,
I was updating my HD2 (Tmobile, R 2.10.50.26), via the official tmobile update software when it got stuck at 48%, I restarted and got stuck at 8% again, after several attempts my phone just wont turn on, when I hit the power button it starts vibrating like crazy (nothing on screen) and it wont stop until I remove the battery,
I cant do a hard reset (volume up+volume down+power button), because as soon as I press the power button it stars vibrating,
Also, as soon as I plug it to the wall charger or PC it also starts vibrating,
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Do this when you press the power button to power on also hold the volume down button down and see if the multicolor bootloader screen comes up. If it does connect your HD2 via USB cable and wait for Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB and ghen run the update again. You can also try it via SD card if you like and if you can get the bootloader to come up. You will have to rename the .exe to .zip to gain access to the .nbh file. here iz a link to the thread on flashing via SD card.

Seeing as you were flashing the official update from the T-Mobile site I assume you have a T-Mobile Leo with 1024MB ram just like mine and that you are a T-Mobile customer. If you are still under warranty with T-Mobile you should not have any troubles out of T-Mobile sending you another replacement HD2. Just contact T-Mobile customer service. I honestly have no idea what happen unless the ROM got stuck flashing for some reason and you should have just waited the flash out instead of pulling the battery cause my friend you now have a bricked HD2. But you are one of the few people that really is not at fault for your HD2 being bricked cause you were using official software meant for your HD2. Unless like I said you do not have a T-Mobile Leo but a EU or another model. Does your HD2 have T-Mobile in silver at the top of the front and is your send button green and end button red?

You can still fix your HD2 but it will require the use of a JTAG and a RIFFBOX or the replacement of the intior main board. PM me if you want more info in it as I am not at home with my computer right now and it is alittle harder to post links with my HD2.
