anyone found a good anti-glare screen protector or film for the Nexus?
the AMOLED is clearly near worthless in direct sunlight... barely readable even at 100% screen brightness setting (which would drain the battery in no time)...
I've tried the Clarivue ones - the 'anti-glare' ones they claim, but all that is is a matte/brushed finish... which just makes the screen look cloudy all the time... definitely reduces the crispness of the screen...
wondering if there is a solution (even if it's "cut your own") for a film that is smooth and glossy, but has an anti-reflective property to it.... maybe even something with some polarized property....
cheers
here in spain its pretty sunny and everytime that I use my N1 while walking I have to but brightness up to maximum. for me its allright like that even thought drains faster the battery.
So you want something glossy...meaning reflective..that has anti-reflective properties.
Got it.
I may have found something... ordered to try...
the 'DayVue' version of their film - 'anti-reflective' and 'anti-glare'... they have a regular 'anti-glare' as well, which I'm presuming is just a matte finish... But the DayVue sounds like it's what I'm looking for...

Something along the lines of 'museum glass'... smooth and glossy yet extremely anti-reflective... just for reference... for those that don't believe you can have a smooth, yet still anti-reflective surface ... http://www.tru-vue.com/Tru-Vue/Products/33/ ...

OyVe... guess I could just get a 3.5' iPhone one and not have the corners covered to see if better... wonder if there is any glare protectors on their website to use with a 3.7' phone that I could order it for and use for the N1
Boxwave makes a pretty decent one. They offer one precut for the N1. I would post a URL but I can't yet.
Any screen protector with anti-glare properties will always make the display slightly cloudy. I got one of boxwave's anti-glare screen protectors for my Moto Cliq and it worked very well. The clouding is very minimal and is hard to notice. It also gives the added benefit of greatly reducing the visibility of fingerprints and smudges.
I just ordered one for the N1 too.

Thank you, might order this today. I wish there were some actual pictures to see the difference...
I just received the boxwave screen protector a few minutes ago. I attached a picture with it applied. It's not a very good picture though. I don't have manual focus on my camera, so it looks more fuzzy than it actually is. I hope this helps a bit though.
I tried it out in near-direct sunlight outside and there's a definite improvement, especially if you increase the screen brightness. It also makes your finger slide across the screen easier. You don't get that grip feeling like on the glass.

Thank you Thank you I appreciate it... I'll def get it today now because of your great suggestion.
A glossy surface reflects light.
A matte surface diffuses light.
Glare is light.
You can't have both without witchery.

Generally the same as a desktop screen in difference. You get brighter more vibrant colors with the glossy ones, but you pay for it in glare/reflection on the device. Matt screens are better in brighter environments, and I personally like how they feel under my fingers better. The matte also reduces viewing angles which might be a plus for privacy.
Alot of people turn the brightness down on battery power, so keep this in mind since the matte will kind of "dull" the image quality. Text also isn't as sharp on the matte.
I am a fan of JavoEdge (JavoScreens), and I have both the matte and glossy and after trying both for about a week each I've decided I like the glossy better.
Redundant...
There are already at least 3 threads covering this, revisit one of them.
Hint look for InvisibleSHIELD.
Zagg Invinsible shield?
Brando?

Which one is least visible and leaves no bubbles?
Expert Shield is by far the best i have come across.
shouldn't this be posted in Blackstone accessories ?
The best screen protector is BRANDO protector,
always buying this and definitely the best.

This one works realy fine for me . Not the easiest to put on.
But seems indistructible and washable.
And looks very cool on my Blackstone.

better think twice before using a mirrored screen protector! yes they do look cool, but the glare makes the hd impossible to use outside or in bright light conditions (much worse than normal), and occasionally frustrating in normal light. they also magnify fingerprints and smudges horribly. i'm constantly rubbing mine against my shirt to clean it
i bought a pack of two and gave one to my daughter and it didnt last the day before she pulled it off. i'm considering a brando non-mirrored in the next week or two.. i really dont like it. ifyour in a dimly lit office all day, it might work for you

I have tried almost all the above mentioned screen protectors but Martin fields and i can say with pride that if you want your device to last for years looking same GO for INVISIBLE SHIELD. With brando, you have to change every few month otherwise the scratches start to appear on the protector
Yeah, but the Invisible Shield just looks so bleh. No way to get the film to fit flush along the border of the screen where it meets the body of the phone. The film just floats in that area, basically creating a void that appears as an air bubble along the whole perimeter of the screen.
They really weren't thinking when they made the cut for that film. No reason not to have made one dedicated piece for the screen, separate from the side of the phone body. If they took one second to have actually looked at the phone itself, they would have realized this.
It does help give a better grip/handle on the phone, due to the silicon material. However, it just looks ... eh. Certainly not invisible. At all. It does change the look of the phone. Looks much cheaper. But I guess scratches'll do that too.
That silicon material also changes the feel of interacting with the touch screen. It does have some give to it. So it feels like you get more compression as the stylus sinks into it. And your fingers/stylus will not glide as easily as you might expect for this type of input method. It's not a hindrance, per se, but it will be different.
Installed the front and the bottom piece. Stopped there. Didn't want that glossy rubber-like material covering the flat-black rubber-tone finish of the back cover and the brushed aluminum finish surrounding the lens.
Would really like a dedicated film for the screen that kept the same physical feel of the screen - more like a glassy/plastic film - and a separate one that protected all the glossy black lacquer finished pieces.
The Zagg Invisible Shield is rubbish. It tries to cover the screen and the chrome bits around the screen with the same piece, so it doesn't fit as well as it should

I guess you got the limited bling edition.
are there any anti-glare screen protector around, like the iphone one? Been searching around but couldn't find any, would be good if there are plans for it.
there are many, almost all manufactures have a clear and a non-reflecting version. I use Exim crystal clear protector and Im very, very happy!! I have it since the first days I bought my blackstone (I bought it on November, 21st) and it lasts until now, without any issue!! I'm using my phone full-time, about 6 hours a day, non-stop, so I think this is a really good protection! and it looks like it's not there so, decide yourself, the problem with non-reflective ones is, that you have not such a clear view, but it's only minimal. For me anyway, I need to have a very clear one, cause I'm most of the time inside buildings and I want for watching movies, have absolute clear screen^^ that's it

thanks... but when i clicked to add one to the basket, google stopped translating, so i was stuck. so i ordered a brando protector. the mirrored one was way cool and very impressive, but i drive a lot, and it made my hd unusable when the sun was out. so bad that i pulled it off and my hd is unprotected untill the brando arrives
So is there a screen protector of some kind which makes the screen less shiny? When I am outside I dont see anything, when there is a bright lightsource around I cant watch a movie normally... I know the colors and brightness is better on amoled, but the screens refelction is annoying imho.
is there a workaround?
Try enabling auto brightness. It will cranked up the screen brightness in high light settings and lower it in low light. I use it and I can see just fine outside.
If you can't stand the shiny screen, you can try buying a anti glare screen protector.
Reminded me of this:

lol @ youtube
do you know if those anti glare screens work?
I have auto brightness on
The clarivue anti glare does help some out in the sun.
It goes from "I can't see ****" to "I can make out some ****".
you should have a screen protector to reduce smudges on the screen; and also like others said, enable the auto brightness. I have no problem with my Nexus under direct sunlight

HAHA. This deserves to be added to someone's signature.
I'm using a protector called UltraCase. They have three different versions. The antiglare is great and you can see it well in full sunlight. They ship from hong kong so it takes a while to get but is worth it. Their silicone sleeve is also fantastic. You paid a lot for your phone and another 30-40 bucks is well worth it. You won't be disappointed.

thx for feedback, I bought the clarivue anti glare online, lets see if I can distinguish some ****
so thank u muncheese and in your honor see below.
--edit--
why my signature not showing
got it in the mail today it works decently and has some advantages
I myself have pretty greasy fingers which always smear on the screen, with this protector that is a non issue. I like the strange new feeling it feels smoother and better.
so far so good, but it has one mayor downfall
the screen is a little blurred. since I have the anti-glare layer, its like there in an slightly un-transparent layer on the screen making the screen look a little blurry.
Although for some that might not be the price they wanna pay for the advantages, I kinda like it. I checked it out outside and no longer do I see my ugly face in the screen when watching a clip on youtube.
If you use your n1 much for watching downloaded movies etc then I would not suggest to use such a screen protector, but if you just use it for youtube or any other low quality stuff its not a problem.
how does it affect the readability of the small letters when surfing the web?

there are some anti-glare screen protectors for sale on ebay. I have not tried any of those yet because shipping to Mexico is kind of painful, but looks promising.

Here is my post from another thread on the same topic:
I picked up an anti-glare one made for the xoom from handhelditems.com (store brand). Cost <$7 shipped. Had to cut a hole for the camera and trim it a little, but for the price, I am happy.
Pixelation is noticable, but you get used to it. Haven't had to wipe fingerprints since.
A tip for install: Make sure it is CLEAN first (obvious), but if a little something gets under, peel it back up and use scotch tape to get it off the sticky. Using this trick, my protector went on perfect.

This is a great product. The screen protector fits great, and there is a cutout for the camera. The screen protector reduces glare and fingerprint smudges alot.
I also found it easy to install, and the best thing was that I was able to salvage the install when I initially installed it crooked.
I normally use SGP protectors, but if you jack up one of those and try to peel it back to fix it, you might as well throw it away.
With this i just used scotch tape to peel it back, and reapplied. No bubbles or dust particles. It looks great and it gives the tab a very nice smooth feel.

I am also another happy camper with that. I did not like the feeling of the original screen (it did not glide well?), with the protector it is a lot better. Althoug it reduces the screen sharpness a bit, which is true for all anti-glare protectors.

I have this one too and it really is a great product, except for a little pixelation that I'm not used to yet...
There's another great brand where I often buy screen protectors from: www.brando.com.
I agree with the rest, the POSRus protector is very nice. It's elimated probably 85% of the glare and made the surface a little nicer on the fingertips, they seem to glide across it better. Another good thing is that it goes in dry, some of the others I saw on amazon were like window tint, requiring soapy water on the screen. These are much more forgiving when applying. Just be diligent in getting -all- the dust and hair off the screen right before you put it on and only peel back as much off the red tab layer as you need while applying from corner to corner.
Does anyone have a Matte screen protector? What about the quality?
Does it look better than glossy?
And is it real that the fingers don't grip anymore on the screen?

I never noticed a problem like that during the short time I had the matte one in place.
I've got one. Don't know about the brand, but the quality is kinda nice. Obviously, since we've got a Gorilla Glass, it won't be as scratch-proof as using no screen protector at all, but the look is amazing, the touch feeling is also great, and I've got no issues with touch anymore (before I was getting oversensitive touch due to sweating and dust, like when typing it got stuck on a key, and I had to turn off screen, clean it, then turn it back on and continue typing). Also, no peeling after some time (like I got with my previous glossy protector), just it's more susceptible to scratch.
K3n, where did you got one? (Brasil aqui também )
I've got the matte one of amzer.. and im liking it

anti glare sp are generally smoother, and since our defy doesn't have those super clear amoled screen, we didn't loss much.
Ok, here it goes. I had the matte screen protector for around 6 months on my phone. After that time, it started peeling off (not too much of an issue, the whole peeling was off the screen), got heavily scratched and my touch issues came back, most likely because of the scratches. So, I decided to take it off. After that 6 months, I noticed how much clarity it took from the screen, it seemed like a different phone. The colors are way more vivid, almost like an AMOLED screen. So, here is my advice: get a glossy one. The feel of the protector is not that good after some time, and the amount of clarity lost on the screen is a price way too high to pay.
i tried a matte and a glare screen protector but the glare one is a bit nicer because the other one takes too much light....but it is in both cases a bit better for gliding over the screen
Matte is awesome!!
Well i use a amzer matte finish screen Guard , and i love it.
the slight texture on it makes the screen feel Awesome...
BUT you may not like the loss of clarity .....
I never buy expensive screen protectors as it always seems to take at least three tries until I get a completely flush and bubble free finish.
I got these matte protectors a while back from ebay and they've perfectly good.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-3x-MA...203932?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item45ff31e71c
I wanted matte as I use the phone as a cycle computer/satnav and it certainly helps with the glare. Yes, they are smoother and the screen does not look as clear but they definitely do the job if you need to cut down glare.

I never re-use screen protectors as they never stay completely clean and dust free to reapply without bubbles. At the price of these, it's not much of an issue. I have had the same protector on since April so they are decent quality and will last. You never know when buying things from ebay; the screen protectors that they sell now may not be exactly the same as the ones I bought in Aptil.
