Just had to post a IMO post real quick.
I had the hd2 for about a month.
Great hardware htc. Horrible OS microsoft.
I have been a loyal winmobile person for years, until i got this phone and saw how much winmobile hampered the hd2s potential. I got so fed up I sold my hd2 and got a Nexus one. I could not happier, its awesome!
If you have been hesitant to jump on the Android band wagon, don't be! its like having the hd2 hardware (minus the grande screen) + iphone gui + multiprocessing + open development all in one.
Android and the nexus one are not perfect i know, but at least they are vested in improving and it is already leaps and bounds better than the winmobile on HD2. Plus the more of you good mod'rs and developers make the switch to Android the better their Market place is going to be.
Making the switch is like coming out of the dark ages.
I'll get off my soap box now, I just had to post this, because I wish someone had told me this before i dropped 700 bones on an hd2.
see you on the Nexus One threads.

Nice.
Dont worry (with us) and be happy !
meh
i have come the other way. had a Hero - great phone, tiny screen. had a few issues with the 3 of them i had so swapped to a nexus one.
Nexus one - OK, but not really "all that". its android without sense, and the AMOLED screen is truly horrible when using it outside. way way worse than a good LCD.
Now i have the HD2 and im loving it

Ridiculous. It's nobody's fault when you're unable to inform yourself. And it's nobody's fault when YOU don't like the HD2.
Why should we have told you not to buy it? We are perfectly satisfied with the device. I've tried Android and discovered nothing that would make me want it over Windows Mobile. We can't speak for you. And we really don't care about whether YOU like the device or not. There's absolutely no point in telling us, it's only spam in the forum.
But yeah, say hello to Android from me too. You won't see me in the Nexus forum, however.

aha you're a dude post-moderne?
ok not to get into a fight...but hd2 is mt first WinMo phone...and to be truthful, the gorgeous and sleek hd2 device when coupled with WinMo and SPB shell and other doodads which i purchased, it's almost a better experience than the symbian os...and i am talking fom the viewpoint of phone functionality and entertainment/internet surfing device...sure i had to shell out the dough for a lot of apps to get it to the level where i like it...but now that i have it...nothing beats its...
btw, i think am one of the few who hated Sense from the first look...so here's my apps which make it better than anything else...
1. SPB mobile shell - in terms of customization and ease of use, it makes the UI experience a game which even a blind man can enjoy...
2. Iconsoft PhoneEx dialer - amazing!! beats even the kepboard phones like the blackberry and all...
3. CorePlayer - havent looked back once i got this...
Other apps - Resco explorer, photo manager, spb backup, gonews touch, im+, pcoket shield, galarm, pocket radio, ceTwit, facebook app, pocket informant, resco audio recorder, freda...all these and a few other odds and ends make the WinMo exp amazing!!
am pretty happy with what i got now..

'Its awesome' 'leaps and bounds better' and 'coming out of the darkness' don't mean a thing, maybe you could be a bit more specific and provide more details, in what way you feel the Nexus is better, the Android system seems a bit crude to me.

Lol I'm right there with ya. Bought Nexus on launch day. four months of daily battery pulls from constant freezing, terrible signal and Edge/3G jumping back and forth I got myself an HD2. The fact that Google is telling people to just get a Droid Incredible instead was icing on the cake.
I was thinking in buying one for my wife.... since I thought it was a decent OS that not needed tweaks....
thanks... I'll buy her an Iphone instead...
lol, my dilemma is solved.
it is android which make it also better than hd2 ,but i prefere desire
Same issues wit HD2, terrible device, i've heard less complains about N1 than HD2..Atleast google had a software updates in a month? Whats taking T-mobile so long..

No it doesn't. Android is more similar to Windows Mobile than different.
I love how because the OS is so new and constantly updated, it suddenly becomes better. That's simply not the case. Android doesn't have all of the functionality Windows Mobile does quite yet, and its polish/fit&finish don't hold a candle to that demonstrated by the iPhone OS. In reality Android occupies its own niche, championed by a number of evangelists who hail its novelty and progress as its strength. In reality, it's catching up (Market to App Store, integrated functionality to Windows Mobile integrated functionality).
My two experiences with Android in the Nexus One and Milestone were both boring and awful.
What is your personal story of choosing the HTC HD2 over a straight Android phone like the MyTouch Slide 3G or the Samsung Vibrant? I was a G1 user but realized that I needed the capacity for programming and hacking my phone easily which Windows Mobile allowed. The huge screen for WinMo was a plus and I knew someday that Android would replace the old OS.
So I signed up for a T-Mobile to get my HD2 a few months ago. And I have a second one now for further testing now.
Hope to hear more good stories of how you got into the HD2.
I have been a WinMo guy forever. I have also been with TMOUSA forever. I didnt plan on changing either. I was stuck in the MS Exchange compatibility lie D thats what I kept telling myself). So last week I got a sweet deal on the HD2. $52 out the door at Walmart with a 2 year renewal . I already had data from my TP2, Dash, MDA, PocketPC, HP6510 (a little history there). It was a no brainer. That how /why I got the HD2.
I also have a coworker who is always touting Android. So I decided to show him how my DEVICE could beat his phone. So I threw on Mattc's 1.6 and was BLOWN AWAY to say the least. I cant believe I waited so long to goto Android. I will never go back to WinMo for daily use. HOWEVER... any device I purchase from here on WILL be able to run both...... Old habits die hard I guess.
My first Windows Mobile phone was unlocked Motorola MPx220 (black limited edition). After that one of course T-Mobile MDA which I got for my brother as well... Phone was great for that time but I regret T-Mobile did not have much to offer at that time. After being bored of resistive screen on MDA and using my nails to select something on the screen, responsiveness got me away from touch-screen phones since there was no almost none capacitive screen phones other than iPhone. I got into reading a review I stumbled on between iPhone and Nokie E71. Weird I know - touchscreen phone vs full keyboard qwerty phone with much smaller screen, etc. I got myself Nokia E71 after I read the review without thinking twice... I used Nokia E71 (gray) for 2 years and got my wife another one, than my brother got it as well (back at Serbia). So, E71 was doing everything just fine; but I wanted more for God knows what reason. I got into researching without any interest whatsoever and got into more capacitive screens and got into rummor mill that T-Mobile is getting HD2. After more reading THAT WAS IT!!!
Android running from SD CARD was just 24k golden coating I put on it ...
I am now full time Froyo 2.2 user on my HD2 and brag about it whoever is asking ... "Oh, is this EVO?" "Oh, is this Droid?" ... NO! It is T-Mobile HD2 that can run Windows Mobile and Android back and forth without any problems!!!
UPDATE: I am running for the past few months Gingerbread Android CM7 (MDJ 2.6) NAND version ROM and it works just perfect for day use. I reset here and there maybe once per month or so but simply it works fine. I am also on 10$ 200MB plan with T-Mobile. Quiet honestly I do not know what the next phone will be for me ...
I got the phone for 2 reasons. One being, that i've always been a WinMo fan, and two, because of the immense power of the phone.
I wasn't bothered about Android at all when I got the HD2 (Plus, when I got my phone, there was no talk of Android coming to the HD2 anyway). Now i've tried Android, i'm loving it - And use it daily.
But, I will always want a phone that I can use WinMo and Android.
As jmmmmm said, old habits die hard !
To experiment, I already have a Nexus One.
Because I had a Dream!
Because A palm reader told me a great man would take on a project. A project that most though was impossible. She for told of the many night this man would stay up picking through the kernal. She saw a penguin on a screen so massive.
This man was Dcordes!
But seriously the screen size and I knew someone like Dcordes could do it.
avoiding the APPLE propaganda.
Well with the rumors of a phone with 1 GHz processor, I was like "This would be my DREAM phone"
So finally got it, thinkin that 1 day we'll have Android on it..!!!
The advantage of this phone over Nexus One, is that we can dual boot WinMO & Android..!!!
As even if we deny it, but WinMO has lotsa apps available that gives it an upper hand..!!!
I mean business apps..!!!
At the end of the day happy to be a proud owner of the HD2..!!!
from years of being a windows mobile fanatic, I decided one day to head off and discover new horizons, I sold my then trusty touch hd for a spangly iphone 3gs, I even sold my psp believing the iphone was all I needed, how wrong I was, I soon became tired of the ever controlling apple, bluetooth headers not working correctly, non apple accessories not compatible, no customisation, grrrr it had to go...
then sold their iphone, for a fully fledged samsung galaxy s, and yes this was quite an amazing device, but for some reason my eye had been on the hd2 for some time, trying to convince myself not to go back to windows mobile, not sure why...so I sold my galaxy s and with the money bought an hd2 and another psp for all my gaming needs so basically back were I started but with a better windows mobile device.
then after getting all comfortable again with my trusty old windows mobile, i thought I would give android a go, thinking there is no way out would run as fast and smooth as on there dedicated samsung device...yet again how wrong I was, android on the hd2 is truly amazing, for me the large screen, brilliant camera with superb flash, the quality of manufacture and huge community following, I now have the perfect device.
It was $48 and I knew I could port Android to it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Great question: I had planned on posing a similar one myself. I wanted the HD2 a the time of the device announcement. I had a Blackstone (HD) which is a good phone, but IMO, the HD2 knocks its socks off.
I bought the Euro model (I'm a Yank, eh), having it for a mere 4 months and I nearly nearly took got the Sprint EVO. I was hesitant on going the Android route - even after hours of research I was uncomfortable with the platform, comparable services and applications. Sure, tons of free apps, but I wasn't convinced most of them would give me what I wanted.
In March I bought a used T-Mo(USA) phone for a pittance, selling my phone for another pittance, getting 3G in the bargain.
I've been a ROM flashing groupie, so when the Android builds started coming around, I jumped on the gravy-train.
Min-Mo is still my fall back, but I am finding all my needs are met with Android except BT headset for calls.....that's not a major factor unless I start travelling again.
Guess I got carried away, but in a convoluted way, I think I addressed the query.
My brother gave it to me, because he was sick and tired of winmo and wanted an android...
I thought winmo was fine, so I was pretty happy! One month later I called him, asking: "hey bro, still liking your Desire? Ow, and guess what? I'm calling you with Android on your old phone!"
He wasn't all that enthousiatic...I wonder why
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The HD2 hardware is second to none for me, big screen and small bezel around it, dedicated buttons.
I really wanted to run Android but when I saw the level of development here on XDA I decided to try winmo and take a risk on it being hacked to run Android later. Now I have both and love it, fantastic!
Winmo with sense & CHT is my preferred interface but android with sense is winning currently, more connected, better apps and more stable.
Unbeatable combo of specs vs price. Wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't sure Android was gonna work for a 100% though, so thanks XDA =)
Originally I had a blackberry curve 8900. To be honest, this device was great for texting and emails and did those things fast and quite well but it just couldn't satisfy my desire to hack and mess with the phone. I wanted android for a long time but I liked the HD2s build quality and hardware the most, much more so than phones like the galaxy s. After looking through the winmo roms on XDA and how much momentum android for HD2 had, I went ahead and ordered an HD2 hoping that one day android and winmo would both be running on the phone flawlessly. I'm really really happy with my purchase and thoroughly enjoying the phone. Given how much progress has been made, I have no doubt that android will be fully ported to the HD2.

Ditto mate.
Word for word!
I had a G2 Touch (HTC Hero branded for T-Mobile UK) which was a great little phone but had huge data issues with T-Mobile's ropey network.
After a lot of arguing they agreed to replace it with whatever was available at the time, HD2 was the best alternative, personally I love it.
Even better with dual boot
About 2 years ago I left my Nokia N70 for a Samsung F700V and I was amused by the touchscreen and the sliding keyboard but then all the limitations of CroixUI came up and I got pissed very soon.
Then I searched (June 2009) for a smartphone that gave me freedom and possibly with a cool design and a good OS. The finalist was Xperia X1 & HTC Diamond 2.
The iPhone was immediately eliminated due to the O.S. and to the fact that I'm a Power User not a Power Luser.
The Diamond 2 won over the Xperia X1 due to the accelerometer, the wonderfull HTC Sense interface, the awesome design and quickness of Windows Mobile 6.1.
I spend about 7 months with that phone and then I saw the HD2 (Feb 2010).
Bigger, badder, cooler and with a lot of potential.
I decided to sell my Diamond 2 for the HD2 because I enjoyed Windows Mobile and, with the huge community behind it, I was sure that, sooner or later, all the potential of that phone will come up.
And I was right... now we almost got Android and in the future we'll have Windows Phone 7, moreover the HTC HD2 is still the biggest and best smartphone on the marked.
I eliminated from my choices Android phones because NONE OF THEM got the same appeal of the dark giant, the HD2.
So I bet on the right horse and I still don't feel the necessity to change it, even because I don't see a valid successor in the actual and near future market.
I love my HD2, deeply.
What's not to like about the HD2, other than WinMo? I went from my iPhone 3G to the HD2 and handed my other half the iPhone to replace her X1. I thought with all that power WinMo couldn't possibly run bad, I was wrong! Also, the Desire wasn't around at the time so my choices were limited.
I'd had the phone a while before the whole thing with Android came along, I was ready to sell it and get something else, Android did change that, for a while! Until I liked it so much I had to get a native device, so I went out and bagged myself a sim-free, unlocked Desire on 2.2.
When the HD2 is at a stage with Android where I'm not missing out on anything the Desire will go to the other half and I'll use the HD2 as my main phone again.
One thing I did notice, even though my HD2 scores upwards of 1700 on quadrant, my Desire pulls 1400-1500 without clocking, but the Desire being native fly's in comparison to the HD2, which is absolutely not slow by any means.
Summary; No android phones available to me at the time, I didn't know anything about Android either, and the HD2 just looks fantastic, a big fat slab of awesomeness.

my 4 year old son has recently discovered need for speed shift on my hd2...........
..
I had an Iphone 4 last week for the week to try it as a replacement as i am due an upgrade.
I really didn't like it that much compared to my HD2 i really didn't like how little i could do with it and i also didn't like the total lack of widgets and general info on the homescreen etc, so it went back and i'm keeping my HD2 for now until the HD desire comes out and the only reason i want a change is texting no matter what i've tried with my HD2 rom wise, with and without HTC messaging client i cannot text properly its simply far too laggy, the iphone was miles better for texting just pants for everything else...
If someone could sort out the texting on the HD2 i wouldnt bother changing as it is the iphone has simply reminded me how i should be able to text...
I do echo the sentiments above though i love how much you can alter the HD2 i've had a new Android phone the last few weekd literally everyday bizarrly the texting is better with android less laggy
Android on the HD2 is what it's at,it takes a while to get used to it but once you do you never look back, i rarely use WINMO anymore about 2% of the time compared to 98% Android

Today lol, somebody called my HD2 an EVO xD
he was like wow, where can I get that? is it an EVO? (It's not for sale in my country)
Lol, he must have been thinking that it was an EVO because I'm running a sense based android build. I told what was really going on and he couldn't believe his eyes LOL.
Wonderful day my device once more has made impression once again
You know what? I agree with the OP. I had the choice to buy any phone out there recently. You know what I got? The HD2. Why? The iPhone 4 and it's 3 inch screen and locked down operating system can go suck donkey balls. I didn't want a native Android device, because I grew up using Windowss Mobile. So I look at all the WinMo phones. Dissapointing specs, until I saw this amazing device. So I got it. This was one of my best purchases ever.
Which one is better? I already have HTC HD2 and I am thinkin to buy an iPhone 4S. I think iPhone is way more powerful than HTC HD2.
what do you mean with "powerfull"
i started angry birds on my hd2 with wp7.5 and on the iphone 4s at the same time...

sounds to me like you already decided.
if you want a phone that makes calls and installs apps, get an iphone, if you like messing about, flashing, tweaking, changing, tinkering stick with the hd2. its that simple.
I have both and as much of a HD2 fan I am, the smoothness of iOS interface is unbeatable. User experience wise, no crashes, better battery life, and basically "just works". After 3 years of HD2, flashing android & WP7..... i find that everyday life with iPhone is more productive than my past years with HD2.
However I'm still a flashaholic and use my HD2 off hand to continue to find the rom that surpasses iOS in regards to these features.

Well, iPhone is nice for less potent people.
HD2 with it's capability is powerhouse.
iPhone 4s isn't much more powerful than HD2, if any at all
Hd2 is powerful. Even there are comparison b/w them roaming around in web.
Its the os. Sure android won't be as smooth as ios, but its way more powerfull.
Its like Java and c . While Java is eyecandy and smooth, its not powerful as c.

i prefer hd2 .....very much!
Well, I prefer ANY Android phone to the iPhone...
To start with ... what's with the iTunes rubbish ???!
I rest my case.
Had an HD2 for 1 year... brilliant ! flexible and reliable, with a very VERY VERY active community of users and devs...
used the iphone4 from the day it came out in stores til i sold it (app 6 months ago) and started using my motorola triumph soley then i recently got the hd2.
the iphone4 is extremely usable when it comes to interface and that nice display. I actually really enjoyed surfing the web on the iphone4.
i thought the camera took very decent photos for a phone camera.
i couldn't stand the typical apple restrictions when it came to loading music or videos to the iphone4
i use linux and have never been a fan of itunes. I have had some success with ipods and syncing music in linux but the iphone4 never worked correctly, esp after i upgraded the firmware (biggest mistake to make with apple products im learning)
I use an iphone 3g as a backup and that was a complete headache to unlock because it had the newer firmware on it.
switching to android first with the triumph and now with the hd2, with an external sd card and third party apps to play a variety of files is the way i like my phone to work.
i don't find myself using it to surf the web as much, although i much prefer swype to the ios keyboard so i do find myself replying to emails more on the phone.
and texting it that much easier.
it comes down to preference. itunes vs drag and drop, ios keyboard vs swype type keyboard, etc
i think a hardware "clone" of iphone4 with the addition of an external memory card running ICS would be an AWESOME PHONE.

to me, for my needs, the hd2 is FAR more amazing then the iphone4.
i have had some really nice phones, i was into symbian phones starting with the football 6620 to the N80, to the E72 to N95 to E90 etc.
for my needs the Hd2 is the best phone i've had. although i would have to say the n95 was most impressive when i got it.
there wasn't many phones that had the feature set it did at the time.
iphone has much better hardware (GPU, screen, touch panel etc).
Hd2 is a very nice multi os device but cannot compare to iphone. Specialy if you are simple user who want's a mobile that..just works...
I prefer hd2 and android.
I would say, buying an iphone is like buying a house and hd2 is like building a house.
1st one is simple, and less complicated, but the thing is u have to be get satisfied with a good work of other person.
2nd one is complcated, and bit tricky. But the thing is u will get or make thing that suits ur needs and taste. Say more personal.
Sorry but americans prefer the first, and the rest of the world goes with 2nd choice. The reason why apple hq is in California. And not in japan.
Of course those who had worked with itunes either to sync or restore had said "what the fck" for one time in their life.
Lol iphone world is like jail( remember why they use "jail broken "), even if you use to jailbreak , u will be caught the nxt time u get a firmware update.
But do u think android is such a Hippocrat? Noooo.. and dont think its a fool, but its a wise buddy trying to adopt himself to the situations it live on..
We indians have a reasonable quote " if u went to a country where people eat snake, then u should eat its middle pieces " ... that applies here too..

People comparing a 3 year old phone with current flagship just shows how good that phone must really be....enuff said
HD2 is still the king of phones
On a serious note, HD2 completely crushed iphone 3gs when it came out even with WinMo 6.5, was on par with iphone 4 with android...4S is obviously better no denying that because of its newer hardware but functionally both are equivalent, you will not find anything that you can't do with HD2 with what you can do with the 4S except for hardware related things like better photo's, video, screen, etc...
However you can do much more with HD2 like running multiple OS'es or multiple flavors of android and android naturally being open gets my vote over iOS
For me Mango and ICS running on my HD2 place it well ahead of pretty much anything. I had my share of Iphones coming in for repairs - cheap flashy toys surviving only on the strength of the market apps. Until I got my HD2 (and I was saying it's a phone of my dreams that I just had to have for some time before I got it), the best phone I ever had, my Toy of the Year award winner, was HTC Universal with upgraded RAM.
The thing about the whole Iphone phenomenon is the fact people who switched to them, any model, did so from old and run down, sometimes monochrome, phones that were due to be thrown out. In comparison Iphone seemed beyond amazing and it would be fair to say the best toy they ever owned and the reason they refuse to consider there are better phones out there.
My work allows me the best opportunity to see what's on the market and play with them all, I had seen triumphs and failures in architecture and design, pluses and minuses of each. Iphone 4/4s is great, not without its problems, just like any other phone, but the average user will find it superb - just a matter of personal preference, really.
