Hello everyone. I have a problem with my new Hero. It's fresh, I haven't root or up rom yet. Only unlock it with a code bought from Internet. Yesterday, my nephew (4yo) used it to play some simple games. When I got it back, the battery ran out. So I connected it to a charge and turned the phone on but it stucked at the boot screen, only displays the "Hero" line. Nothing worked (touch, buttons). I had to take out the battery to turn it off.
So, I tried many ways: took out the battery and put back, took out the Sim card, sdcard, battery and put all back, etc. Nothing works. I decided to hard reset the phone by pressing Home, Return and Power buttons. After few seconds of erasing data, it told me to press the Menu button to restart the phone. I pressed the Menu and again, the anoying "Hero" line appeared.
I assumed that while playing games, my nephew might press some buttons to ativate or erase something that I don't know. So I ask you pros can you guess what is the problem and if you know it, what can I do to get my Hero works again? Many thanks to you all!
Don't turn it on but charge it up until you think its full then try to boot again.

I'va tried this way too, still no work. Thanks anyway.
right this way may work but you will lost all your data.
turn the phone on as best you can do and leave it on, plug into a pc and try to reinstall the RUU from HTC's website (latest rom) this will wipe everything and restart.
That should work but you would lose everything.
The other way is to try to use adb to control the phone.
Yes, I was thinking of reinstall the RUU too. But the latest ROM in HTC website is 2.73.61.5 but mine is 2.73.73.x (It's a HTC Hero from Orange - France). Is is safe to downgrade the ROM?

no harm in trying.
Can you not find the RUU for your orange France phone? i.e. the same one you were already on.
OK I will try with the RUU and report later if this works or not.
I think Orange France has modified the original ROM of HTC.

Really?? How you manage to get a 2.73.73.x
I tot the latest build for the roms was 2.73.61.5...bizzare
Anyways it should allow you to downgrade fine because i remember i did it to return from 2.73.61.5 to the older rom because i wanted to root it...suprisingly i didnt have to use the goldcard method or anything to downgrade

I don't know Now I cannot turn the phone on to verify but I am really sure because of the repeatation of the number 73 (the last number, x, I don't remember though)

Ok, here's my situation:
I just bought a HTC Touch/Elf and I wanted to upgrade a couple of things in it.
FYI, it's not the first time I'm playing around with some HTC Smartphone...I upgraded a 8125 & 8525 from WM5 to WM6.5...anyway..
So, I tried to get to the Bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET ...nothing happened, except that the phone just restarted normally.
I tried to upgrade the USPL...nothing either...
I tried to Hard Reset the phone (maybe this could help...)...nothing there too...
All the things I tried came to the same conclusion = the phone just restarted normally...???
Here's what I could find :
ROM 1.11.706.1B CHS
ROM DATE 05/24/07
Ril VERSION 03.07.90
Protocol 4.1.13.51
WM 6.1 Professional
What can be wrong? Can it be the phone itself?
Is there another way to enter the Bootloader?
Am I missing something...or doing something wrong?
I need your help guys...I've been reading all around the forum for the last 2 days, and I'm going now a bit crazy...LOL
Thanks
Michel
Is your phone stuck ??.. or it's just that it's not going to bootloader??... if your phone is going to today screen ,.. connect to activesync and use the device_info tool from dsixda... and let us know the results
Now the phone is frozen...it boots, then I get a blue screen. The touch screen does not work anymore, the only thing I can do is reset (soft)...and that's it!
I cannot even see it on my PC when I connect it vis USB....
Darn....
to go to bootloader without the reset button(that can be damaged in most models)
take out your battery and hold the power and the camera button
that will get you in the bootloader
if you have unlocked your device then you are lucky if not then you are out of luck
i thought to enter the bootloader it was just the camera button and the soft reset,
hmmm... u learn something new everyday

Yes the phone is unlocked, but NO, it is not working ...again...
Everytime I try to get to the Bootloader, the phone just ''soft-reset'' itself.
I'm guessing that the WM installed is probably corrupted, it freezes on the Start Screen...darn...
Ok...I figured out how to Hard Reset the phone:
POWER + LEFT KEY (green) + MIDDLE BUTTON
Strange???...I never saw this combination anywhere...
Now, I need to figure out the Bootloader combination...

Yes and No....
I was told, before getting the phone that it was an ''original'' HTC, but when I got it, I could clearly see that it was a clone. For the price, I though it would not be a ''real'' one...but I read a lot online about the copies, and except the bootloader thing, it does work like a real HTC.
As far as I'm concern, if the phone works fine, and don't see a problem using a clone, but the clone has to work...
If I can get to the Bootloader, then I can play with it a bit...now I can only installed stuff in it, as a regular WM Smartphone...no challenge here
Can Work - Can't Upgrade

Indeed Elf clones run the same as original but it use modified OS and may contain different hardware so it needs its own drivers and cannot be upgraded by original or cooked HTC roms
Thanks for the reply.
I understand the ''modified OS'', but what if I want to upgrade the RADIO ROM?
Can I use a ''regular'' Touch Radio ROM to do this?

The Radio ROM now is 03.07.90, which seems to be a ''real'' Touch ROM, as per the WiKi here.
So I'm guessing that I can upgrade the Radio Rom with a more recent one...
after my phone rebooted once the update was complete, it wont get passed the "at&T World Phone" white screen... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! i was using a stock at&t pure with the stock rom. i can not upgrade hardspl or ANYTHING any suggestions on how to get my phone to boot? hard-reset went through with no signs of failure but it still will not boot up after that finishes... sorry if its something im overlQQKing, but i just cant figure it out. n yes i have researched although obviously not enough at this point. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance. forgive my stupidity!!!
......
noone?????
The HTC Pure updates hosed my phone too, I had already applied hard-spl to my Pure and i've flashed it with dozens of roms. Since I was currently using one of the "Stock" AT&T roms posted on XDA I figured I could apply the updates. Unfortunately after applying the update my phone froze at the boot loader. I was forced to flash my rom using the memory card method and then restore a backup.
you could try putting the phone in SSPL mode manually, (reset button+volume down), the run hard-spl hard-spl in manual mode.
you can then flash your rom using the memory card method. (FAT32 formated memory card, rom file renamed to topaz.nbh copied to root of flash card, reset button+volume down to enter SSPL, power button to confirm flash).
All this assumes you've already tried to hard reset your Pure (reset button+vol up+vol down)
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunatly, i tried the manual method and after it hanging at 0% for about 5 minutes, i keep getting error [262] update error.. (communications error) is this becuase i can not sync with mobile device center (win7)? I really dont want to just have to toss the phone! I have had an at&t tilt, at&t fuze, and now the at&t pure, and this is the only phone i have had this problem with for some reason...
Try Unplugging Your Pure From the computer Take Out the Battery Put the Battery Back in Mean While Restart your computer and Press Power And Volume Down At the Same time on your Pure If its on the colored screen your good,..Make sure your system is online and your not downloading anything and plug in your Pure to the computer it give it about 2 minutes to download the HTC USB driver then once its done your phone will say USB on the bottom of the Red Green Blue And White four color screen Then open up one of your ROM's and Flash it,....Do You Have Windows Mobile Device Center Installed?
If Not here is the Link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
If you do already you need to uninstall the Driver update for windows mobile media center then install it again .
i can get the bootloader screen just fine! i just can not get hardspl to flash onto it. it sits at 0% every time. the phone will not boot so i can NOT get into mobile device center. The tri-colored screen comes up with no problem and it says USB on the bottom, so the drivers are already installed. I even tried hard-reset and still no luck
There was an additional cab file I needed to install to HSPL the Pure
"enablerapinew.cab"
basically the machine just would fail to load the HSPL without it
but it still functioned afterwards, does yours?
Do a search on XDA find and DL the cab (or I could attach a zipped copy)
If you can still access the device,
just copy enablerapinew.cab to any temp dir on the device
the execute it through fileexplorer
then go back to installing the HSPL (mine then worked fine)
If you haven't already, You should go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
you'll find troubleshooting info and a link to the extra cab there
If you really are bricked at this point , it sounds like nothing has actually
been changed on your device yet? its just frozen should be still under warrentee? Unless anyone else has a better suggestion you should be
able to return it for exchange to ATT
Good Luck
KJL
It sounds like Windows is not properly recognizing your device when it is plugged into the USB port while in SSPL mode.
Have you tried different ports?
Is there another computer you can use?
another thought about returning under warranty
on the boot page of the stock Pure it indicates HSPL 1.83.000
After you update the HSPL it will say HSPL "1.83.Olinex"
this normally an indication of a successful update,
but it will probably void your warranty if they just look at the boot screen
This is true for all Pure (and Tmobile Compact V) Rom upgrades
The Stock Pure came with 6.5 and therefore the 1.83.00 HSPL
The Diamond2s did not, so their solution which reverts to 1.63 <?>
will not correctly revert to 1.83.00 on the Pure.
No way to correct this yet as far as I know,?
All the "reverts" are geared toward the Diamond2s, not the Pure.
But If your boot screen indicates 1.83.00 before it freezes
I'm fairly sure its still entitled to a warranty repair/replace
How could they tell the cause of the failure
was a reburn as opposed to natural causes?
Good Luck
KJL
When you put the phone into a manual bootloader mode... Mobile Device Center becomes obsolete.
HardSPL is only needed for unofficial roms. Forget HardSPL for the time being. The goal here is to get your phone operational. Just download the official HTC WM6.5 WWE rom and flash that. Put phone in manual bootloader mode and run the Rom installer.
As long as your phone is in bootloader mode and says "USB"... then your set to go.
Another solution is to try another PC. You'd be surprised how often that will resolve your issues. Perhaps find an XP machine and install Activesync (so it loads the bootloader USB drivers). I had to do that on several occasions when my main PC refused to flash my mobile device.
I did both of the updates htc has for the pure. Both worked fine. I am on the origianal rom. It does reboot your phone and stays on the white screen for a min then it loads the update and the phone starts.
The offical ROM comes back with a wrong vender ID error I guess cause its a "pure" and not the HTC branded "topaz"... NOW what should i do??? Seems like i NEED hardspl so i can flash any ROM, as from what i researched, there IS NO AT&T Pure rom that has been released. I still cant figure out why a hard-reset will not work though.... This is REALLY starting to get me angry!!!
Just for reference, the Pure's ID is TOPA210 32M
SPL-1.83.0000
The official hotfixes worked fine for me as well. Did you apply the hotfixes on the original ROM that came with your Pure?
Also, does the official HTC Touch Diamond 2 ROM work for you? If so, the hotfixes for the Pure are irrelevant, as are any future updates released for the Pure. You should look for updates for the Touch Diamond 2 on the Worldwide HTC site.
If you needed to do a warranty claim, the closest you can get to returning your phone to stock/shipped form is to use the ROM dump using HardSPL and hope they don't notice that the SPL is different. Currently, there's no way to return the Pure back to completely official software.
A hard reset simply wipes everything off and restores everything back to what is contained in just the ROM you currently have on it. If you've flashed your phone at all, you've already wiped out the original ROM that came with it.
It is still the STOCK ROM. I have never flashed it yet.. The topaz rom will not flash due to a vender ID error. The spl is still stock also... i think thats is why i am having this problem. I bought the phone off craigslist so returning it to AT&T is NOT an option either way. My only solution is to find a fix. (or trash it) I really appreciate all of your suggestions and input so far. You guys are by far the best board around! I am a LONG time follower, but a few-time poster. Obviously i have little to contribute to the board.
Can I trouble you to dig up a few version numbers? It'd help evaluate your situation so we can see which options are best for your case.
ROM version? You can find this in Device Information. Start --> Settings --> System --> Device Information
Bootloader version? Do a soft reset while holding down the volume down button on the side until a screen with red, green, blue, and white, ordered top to bottom, shows up. It should be the second line starting with "SPL-..."
The ROM is the STOCK AT&T ROM (again...) I CAN NOT go to start;.... because if you noticed in the first post, the phone will not boot past the white "AT&T WorldPhone" screen... the spl is stock also incase you missed that part. (1.33.0000) I have never flashed the divice. EVERYTHING IS HOW AT&T SELLS THE PURE OUT OF THE BOX! NO MODS. NO FLASHED ROMS. NO HardSPL... NOTHING! STOCK!!! (for those overlooking the details in my previous posts) I have no doubt you guys (n hopefully a few girls ) will help me fix my issue. I'm just REALLY anxious for it to happen sooner than later!
Have you tried downloading the official rom here on xda and renaming it to TOPAIMG.nbh and update using the sd card method?
Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600339
The download is in post #1
I have downloaded the official ROM. Although I thought it is still concidered "custom" and that you need spl updated to install it... Am I wrong about this? Also, by using the SDcard to flash, do I NEED to have hardspl on the device? If yes, I can not use this method, as I have stated before that the spl is still stock and NOT updated in any kind of way. NOTHING on the phone has been updated or flashed. Will this method still work then???? I am at work for 3 more hours and then will go home and try it either way and come back to update you all on the results. Again, THANK YOU for your continued support in helping me out!! At this point, I will send a donation via paypal to whoever can get me out of this hole!

Actually that is supposed to be an officially signed rom. If that is true it will work with the stock spl. It will either work or it won't. Also, as stated in the response after yours, you can apply the hardspl via SD as well.
Hello,
yesterday i downloaded the official Windows Mobile 6.5.x Image of HTC in german!
First everything was fine! But then i noticed, if i leave the phone untouched, and the display gets dark, it shuts down!
First i thought, maybe there is something wrong with the energy settings, but some changes there didn't change anything!
At last i did a hard reset! It doesn't change anything, too :-(
Has anyone an idea, whats wromg with my phone?
Thanks,

This is referred to as the SOD (Standby of Death)
Some questions to consider;
Did you HSPL?,
If not, is your phone originally set up for German region?
My Phone is an original Vodafone german phone.
in october last year i installed the update of HTC, but the original, not the one of Vodafone, with HSPL i think!
And yesterday i downloaded the official new HTC ROM and did it the same way (both times i downloaded a single file)
Are there any solutions for the standby of death?

The cause has yet to be identified but it is likely some .dll not playing nice with the system.
Also, not sure if I've seen this on a stock ROM.
Go into bootloader and make sure you have HSPL installed. s/b 1.83.Olinex
Hm... i remember, there was written 1.83.Olinex!

Instructions:
- Turn off your device using the power button
- When the device is turned off press simultaenously the volume down button + Power button
- Your device will startup in Bootloader mode
Maybe try to re-flash the ROM again.
Also, always hard reset after your flash
ok, thanks, i'll give it a try
i tell you tomorrow
OK, there is written:
TOPA100 32M
SPL-1.83.OliNex
MicroP-Topaz (LED) v 10
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
TP MFG DATA
499,548 170,882
176,207 834,210
826,886 Calibrated
I have found this too but the phone isn't completely dead. If I call my number from another phone it seems to wake the device up and allow me to use again
very frustrating though
Hey, about half an hour ago, i reinstalled HSPL 1.83.Olinex! Now it seems to be working normal! I can tell you tomorrow, if the problem is solved! I'll test the next 24 hours
So, til now i can tell you, that my problem, the standby of death is gone The reinstall of the Bootloader did it
Hi all - I'm in a bit of trouble.
Tried changing the OS to Android and must have made a mistake somewhere along the line.
Was using ROM update utility MAGDLR V1.13 and got as far as updating the ROM Was told that the screen should go black and if it didn't, then I needed to perform a reset.
I did this and now the screen just shows the htc logo on white background.
Irish phone - got it august '10. recently upgraded ROM from HTC site to version 3.14.405.2 but not sure now whether I've wrecked it completely.
Was just sick of WinMo and wanted a change - can anyone help please?
ND
boot into bootloader and start again. do you have hspl? right radio?
get into bootloader. flash magldr. then flash nandroid.
you probably need to downgrade the rom to get to hspl 2.08
Thanks - I got the correct HSPL and installed it on the phone, that part was fine. The problem now is that the handset isn't even acknowledging when it's plugged in. And when I connect via USB, the computer isn't registering any connection to it.
I think it's toast! The only thing I can see is a white background with green htc lettering i.e. welcome screen
Thanks for getting back to me, any other ideas?
Will I be able to reload original windows back on by myself?
Try windows 7 XP sucks doing this kind of stuff

Can you get to bootloader?
(power on while holding vol. down)........
If so, get to bootloader then connect via usb. The word serial at the bottom of the screen should change to USB. This sometimes takes a few minutes (for me anyway)
Once it reads "USB" flash a WM6.5 Rom in the usual way.......
If you cant get to bootloader then theres a good chance you've somehow borked your device......
Thanks everyone and in particular jsmmcabe and conantroutman
I got into bootloader and I'm trying to reinstall the windows os from there.
will let you know how I get on,
thanks again guys - lifesavers
I should have mentioned that flashing a stock 6.5 rom will wipe HSPL.
If you flash a stock rom then you will need to reinstall HSPL before attempting any MAGLDR/NAND shenanigans... (sheNANDigans?? see what I did there )
If you flash a custom ROM from XDA then your HSPL will be ok......
Also should have mentioned the age old "NO .51. radios on a tmous" advice.........
Good luck.......
Well after all of that I went to Pirate Bay, downloaded an Android 2.2 file, copied it onto my SD card and ran it.
Hey presto, I have an Android Phone!
I cannot begin to tell you how much better it is. It's fast, it doesn't freeze, the whole interface is much cleaner and easier to use.
SNAG ITEM:
Tried doing the same with a friends phone and when activating the copied files from the SD card, the thing just hangs and I have to reset the phone.
Any idea why it worked on mine and not his?
Same phone, bought in Ireland, a week apart. Different mobile operator networks though..... I'm Vodafone, he's O2 - weird, no?

Could be its not booting because of an incompatible radio....
must be above 2.08.50..... you can find this info in settings about phone...
Also, why download android from the piratebay???
Everything android related you could possibly need is here on XDA.
Personally Id be suspicious of anything from a site like that. Theres no way of knowing whats in that Rom. I would change to a well used and trusted build from XDA if I were you.
Theres no exact science to getting this running on different phones, what works for one may not work for another......
Out of nowhere, my perfectly working unrooted desire hd heated up and thne went into a non stop restart loop. It wont even shut down. Just restart every time and get heating up.
I took the battery out, placed it back in and now it wont start. Tried the hardware factory reset. Factory reset happneed the phone started and again went into the restart loop heating up
NO power problems, no droppage no nothing.
What is this? please some one help.
Thats a new one.
Is the heat from the battery or the handset?
Do you have a branded handset or was it stock HTC?
HTC one. not branded.
Funny just been 3 months. The heat actually was from the set. Absolutely nothing wrong before it. I am not a fancy cell person, so no fancy things in it either.'
It gave me a force close on messages. Then it deleted my messages automatically, and then it went into this crazy restart loop getting heated up more and more..
the rest i already mentioned.
Is it DEAD?
I wouldn't say it was dead yet.
Do you know what your HTC Firmware was or your Android Version?
It was froyo. Did not do the gingerbread update yet.
Sense was 2.0
Ok,
Could you download the latest HTC firmware (Gingerbread) from HERE.
Once downloaded, remove the battery, reinsert. Plug into your computer, but don't turn the phone on. You should get the orange charging light. Now run the RUU.exe file and follow the prompts.
Ok. but what is your thought process on this?
also i had the winmo ruu. Can u give the link for ruu u mentioned in your reply?
EDIT: Got the ruu clear.
My thoughts is to upgrade your handset to the latest firmware. In the process of upgrading your handset will be completely wiped. And it should fix your problem.
If it still fails to work, there maybe a bigger underlying cause to your issue.

You need to root first which you need to turn ON your dead phone which i think impossible. Therefore the only solution is to return back to HTC for repairing. Unroot should still under warranty.
Doesn't the wrong id alarm appear only if you're trying to apply a wrong RUU? (For example T-Mobile RUU to an Orange phone)
What I would do if I had unrooted stock DHD without custom recovery that has problems is to send it for repair under warranty. If you didn't do anything that would void the warranty, don't do it now.

his name is yahya.hamid..i guest his from asia or arabic which i also guess his phone must be asia or arabic version..thats why i think he can not install wwe version without root..just my guess, which i'm maybe wrong
Well thANKS ALL for your concern.
Its the WWE version. Factory unlocked. not rooted. I dont have SPL or Hard SPL on it.
Its like brand new.
Yes i can goto the boot loader screen. If i switch the phone on after atleast 12 hours, it switches on...gets immediately into heating and restart loop. goes dead.
then it wont start again until 12 to 13 hours.
Not a battery issue since i replaced it.
Now shall i go for the ruu gingerbread or should i simply contact htc ( which btw is not in the country that i live and i will have to wait till i make the trip aBroad)
I'd flash the gingerbread RUU I posted first. It's the official HTC update so don't worry about voiding you warranty.
Like I mentioned previously, ensure your handset is completely off, plug into your computer, wait for the orange charging LED then run the RUU.
If your problem still persists then a HTC repair is your only remaining option.

If you have access to your sdcard you could try to flash the ruu using the bootloader : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
