HD2 at launch - need advice! - HD2 General

Hello all..long time android user here (G1 User), and I'm going to be buying 2 HD2's come the 24th (BOGO!!)...now, question is - what are the chances of seeing Android running on this beautiful device?
I know WM6.5 is a stable/mature operating system, unfortunately I'm very used to the Android UI, but would love to have the HD2's drool-inducing hardware (as opposed to say, a Nexus One) running 2.1 or higher.
I feel odd buying a new device that already reached the end of its development road (software-wise), and seeing as Android is frequently updated for/improved..well there's not much contest
Thanks!

Check the Android development thread, in the ROM development section.

It'll be atleast a year before there's a nearly fully functional Android... few months probably before theres a basic port we can begin to play with.

Say you want the bogo deal. You need to have 2 lines to get it.

You need to either start 2 new lines with the 25$/Month smartphone data plan, or have two fully eligible lines for upgrade.

HTC is SHAFTING us, US HD2b to have 576Mb of RAM & 1Gb or ROM!

That's a boatload of memory!
I hate when they do this!

I am not sure i believe this... How many times before have things been leaked and they have been wrong.
It could just be one of those typos that we see so often from a non tech source.
It is true

It is probably true, But mayb our HD2 has it aswell but not actived yet.
Don;t think HTC will do something like that.

who knows still may be a typo....... has anyone done a teardown of our HD2 to see what mem chips are in it ?? this may see if it is not active in our devices, which i doubt.

yeah, like the same thing has never happened the other way around.
it's our prize for getting the device ~5 months later then you.
I have had my HD2 less than a week.
I have just emailed HTC to tell them that I will be returning it if I do not get answers. It is that simple. The important question is Windows Mobile 7 upgradable?
It leaves me with a bad feeling...

it's not their fault that you couldn't wait they sold you a device with 512 mb ROM. They didn't lie or something. it's like i buy an iphone 1g and say after 3 years: "if you don't upgrade this to 3gs, ill sue you."
anyways a lil bit more ram/rom isn't a big deal for me.

If this (RAM/ROM) is the only change (apart from band changes) that's all fine - however I have a sneaky feeling they will also have sorted out the pink camera issue (new lens perhaps) with these later revisions - in which case I will definitely demand an upgrade.
Sooo poor
UK Vodafone HD2 user. We've already been stiffed over the poor quality of the early ROM's with camera quality, stability issues and lets not mention the on going saga that is the stuck sms issue in the outbox which hasnt been rectifyed yet and now this!
We truely have been stiffed on this one which the release of double ROM and upgraded Ram in the US. They should allows us to sub our phones in like Apple and O2 did when they upgraded iPhones from Edge to 3G v.quickly for those on £40 or more contracts could swap their phones for free.
I'm just worried that the US device will be the minimum required for Windows Mobile with the push they are making, leaving Europe and Asia with no official upgrade. If they had to replaced all those outside the US that's a great hassle no company or indeed consumer will wish to endure.
This is bull****, what are HTC playing at? To me this is the equivalent of buying a gamesconsole and then a few months later they release one with more ram so it can play games which the first version cant i.e....windows mobile 7, I bet ours cant and theirs can.

Email HTC and demand clarification. The more people do that the more likely some action from HTC on the issue. I agree with what you say...

it's not their job to publicise everything they are gonna publish like the nexus one: rumor, rumor, rumor; 1 week befor release: official. it's like general knowledge. If i buy a phone now, the retailer won't tell me: oh, if you wait another 5 months, there will be better phones on the market.
dude it's technology. everything is improving over time. and they are NOT supposed to advertise everything

The HD2 has been out in EU for over a month now.
Hi! I'm an O2 customer and this was my chosen upgrade. I wish I'd gone for Android to be honest but they didn't offer any snapdragon based models.
the Europe model will only allow edge connection here in the usa.
if ur still interested let me know ... i bet there would be something that we could work out !

What OS is the hd2 coming with? is it still on Win Mobile?
yes, it will be a WinMo phone, and likely only wm 6.5. there are those that are hoping that it will get WM7 later this year, but most reports indicate that it will not be capable of running WM7 at all. my impression is that there are currently no phones available that will be able to run wm7 at all. whole new architecture
That is truly a shame as the HD2 looks fantastic with that screen and WinMo 7 would surely look great on it whenever it gets out!
interesting trade..

HTC have posted letters to some users requesting the upgrade stating that they will be providing a Windows 7 upgrade in the near future.
Still want Android though! I can play with more development oppurtunities then!
It's still unsure yet whether the HD2 will be upgraded to WinPhone7, as Microsoft's rep person said that it doesn't fulfill the "three buttons requirement." Yeah, don't ask me, but either way I wouldn't get the HD2 while hinging on the expectation that it'll get WP7.
I'm never gonna change back to WinMo... No way!!!!

what will happen first WP7 or Android???

In the last week a lot has happened about the Android and WP7 Projects for our HD2.
Tell us which one you think will come first,
What are your hopes and expectation?
For me, right now I would prefer to run android because there is a lot more thing to see, more apps etc.
But good times come to our phones
Either way, who cares?
I do, I like my hd2 how it is now, but it'd be cool so have other options out there. I'd like to see both but don't know much about it so I'll just wait and see.
oh man...what do I do? Wait to see if a Win7/Droid ROM for the HD2 pops up or get the EVO4?

If you want android full time, get the evo. If you want WM6.5 full-time, keep HD2. It will be a long time before there are fully functional ports of either on the HD2, and they will probably never be as good as a phone that comes with the OS preinstalled.
I plan on using WM6.5 most of the time, but it will be cool to boot into android at times to play around with it. I'm not even gonna think about WinPhone7 until it's out for a while and I can see how it is and what apps there are for it.
I like Android, and I like WP7, but which one's the best?
There's only 1 way to find out.....
FIGHT!!!
Seriously though, forget ported Android. It will never be as good as an Android device. You're not gonna get a fair comparison between WP7 and Android on a HD2, (assuming that we actually do get them both). Keep your HD2 until this time next year and then watch loads of vids on youtube before buying your next phone.

Answer is easy for me: Keep the HD2.
I hate Sprint. Plus I really don't want to pay out the @$$ for their data plan. $10 web2go, thank you very much.
Android will come eventually. I'm content with WM6.5.
Dump this piece of crap and get an Evo. Tmobile blows, WM6.5 blows, sense on WM6.5 blows. I have had many phones, this by far was the biggest let down.

Unfortunatly (or luckily) most people don't have access to CDMA-networks. GSM is the standard. Plus 4G, at least in my country, is LTE and not wimax. So Evo is ruled out. That said, I'm pleased with my HD2.

[Q] Can We Get A LG Quantum Section In This Forum?

Just what the title says. Everybody else got what they want in the wp7 i want my phone section up here. That is not too much to ask is it?
I think they are adding boards when the phone is released / becomes popular.
They should add all the new wp7 phones soon.

Is this LG Quantum, LTE capable so when AT&T rolls out LTE, we don't have to change our phones?
I hate to upgrade and pay $199 only to find out that it will stay on 3G.

IS there a future for HD2 and WP7 ?

Will the Dark Forces Team continue development for our HD2's ?
Does anyone know if they are planning on continuing development, or does all this depend on Microsoft's updates ?
I am quite excited waiting to find out the answer.
I guess we won't know until we know unless someone has contacts within DFT?
I will continue to use WP7 even if the current version is the last for the HD2 as long as this version continues to let me buy apps from the market. Hoping that MS don't lock that aspect down.
Have Cotulla, others, and the members of the Dark Forces Team ever you let you down on past projects? Maybe that is one way of looking at the question of the OP.
I dont think there is a future.... I mean... 2012 is near and then the world will end, with or without WP7 on HD2..
Why do you ask this (stupid) question? is there a reason or info that nobody will develop anymore? Just wait or start developing yourself^^
I think things will really start to flow after Microsofts updated coming "soon". There will be no point of releasing another rom before that.

Sorry forgot about the 2012 thing...
As for WP7, bit hooked to it really, actually thinking of changing my beloved HD2 for HD7, but this is such a drastic thing to do, all I wanted was just a glimmer of hope from DFT....
What do you need from DFT? Normal features should work (which are less than android only having better looks =/ )
Actually there are people working on a kitchen, MS will update and i think there will be some nice updates vom DFT in future.
January 22 I sent one of the members of DFT message.

At this time i wouldn't recommend to change to a new phone, I first wanted to do it myself, but then I stopped to thinking on it. Here's why:
- The smartphones will soon get a huge step forward, there will be models with dual and even quadcores in it ^^
- There will be new batteries with up to 10000 mah but they dont use the normal battery slot to fit in the phone, they are quite smaller
- The display type will soon change to Amoled, so it gets slowly standarised
Normally when you purchase a phone, you want to take it for at least 2 years, so you would miss all that (ok the new battery will take a while until it comes out )
