what will happen first WP7 or Android??? - HD2 General

In the last week a lot has happened about the Android and WP7 Projects for our HD2.
Tell us which one you think will come first,
What are your hopes and expectation?
For me, right now I would prefer to run android because there is a lot more thing to see, more apps etc.
But good times come to our phones

Either way, who cares?

I do, I like my hd2 how it is now, but it'd be cool so have other options out there. I'd like to see both but don't know much about it so I'll just wait and see.

oh man...what do I do? Wait to see if a Win7/Droid ROM for the HD2 pops up or get the EVO4?

If you want android full time, get the evo. If you want WM6.5 full-time, keep HD2. It will be a long time before there are fully functional ports of either on the HD2, and they will probably never be as good as a phone that comes with the OS preinstalled.
I plan on using WM6.5 most of the time, but it will be cool to boot into android at times to play around with it. I'm not even gonna think about WinPhone7 until it's out for a while and I can see how it is and what apps there are for it.

I like Android, and I like WP7, but which one's the best?
There's only 1 way to find out.....
FIGHT!!!
Seriously though, forget ported Android. It will never be as good as an Android device. You're not gonna get a fair comparison between WP7 and Android on a HD2, (assuming that we actually do get them both). Keep your HD2 until this time next year and then watch loads of vids on youtube before buying your next phone.

Answer is easy for me: Keep the HD2.
I hate Sprint. Plus I really don't want to pay out the @$$ for their data plan. $10 web2go, thank you very much.
Android will come eventually. I'm content with WM6.5.

Dump this piece of crap and get an Evo. Tmobile blows, WM6.5 blows, sense on WM6.5 blows. I have had many phones, this by far was the biggest let down.

Unfortunatly (or luckily) most people don't have access to CDMA-networks. GSM is the standard. Plus 4G, at least in my country, is LTE and not wimax. So Evo is ruled out. That said, I'm pleased with my HD2.

lmao at winmo fanboys

just had a guy at ppcgeeks tell me Android is to the mobile market what Linux is to the desktop market. talk about having your heads in the clouds. im soo glad i ditched winmo and moved to the hero. after seeing the disaster of wm7 today i made the right move.
Wow haha... that man has been misinformed obviously. MyTouch 3G? Droid? Nexus One? The only Android phone I could really say that would fit his description would be the Samsung moment (haven't heard of many people with one).

Cant and wont agree with the comment from the guy at PPG, however the 7 phone is far from a disaster and I fully believe that it will bring WinMo back from the dead...even more so than WebOS did for Palm. Its look features, and functionality beats the **** out of everything on the market except Android. Anyway, I'm with Android to stay (though maybe not Sence next time around).

id take winmo 6.1 or 6.5 over that any day. the phone is basically crippled.
Stupid PPCGeeks. I wish i could take down all my themes and shlt from there!

Meanwhile, you can expect a bit of cockiness from the WM guys. I know, I used to be one!
I think the Winmo 7 phone will be decent. Yes it's a totally new UI for it and the apps aren't backwards-compatible, but hacks will eventually come out for it.

but some of those guys are off their rocker if they think android will be a fail.

it won't be soo easy for them man,. no multitaking, no flash, no copy/paste. yeah microsoft just threw everything out the window and took a HUGE step backwards. i love my hero and android, so easy to theme and a decent amount of custom roms and a great marketplace. what else can you ask for?

Recovering the costs of new development, and gathering anticipated profits to MS (or any other large company) will have to be realized before any new stuff is released. So they will slow the industry momentum down in order to maximize the money that can make. Money is fine. Slowing everything down sucks.
Now they can slow things down by screwing up others, ie.. specifications for open systems designs and so forth.
Only when they see their customer base being reduced (-14% winmo) will they react.
Google on the other hand supplies a "cloud base" and should be impervious to change costs on platforms. That could mean the introduction of new platforms and system upgrades. Certainly a more open environment.

HD2 at launch - need advice!

Hello all..long time android user here (G1 User), and I'm going to be buying 2 HD2's come the 24th (BOGO!!)...now, question is - what are the chances of seeing Android running on this beautiful device?
I know WM6.5 is a stable/mature operating system, unfortunately I'm very used to the Android UI, but would love to have the HD2's drool-inducing hardware (as opposed to say, a Nexus One) running 2.1 or higher.
I feel odd buying a new device that already reached the end of its development road (software-wise), and seeing as Android is frequently updated for/improved..well there's not much contest
Thanks!
Check the Android development thread, in the ROM development section.

It'll be atleast a year before there's a nearly fully functional Android... few months probably before theres a basic port we can begin to play with.

You need to either start 2 new lines with the 25$/Month smartphone data plan, or have two fully eligible lines for upgrade.

Does anyone else here feel... empty?

Most of our devs are gone. They've run off to the Evo portal and ebayed their Heroes. In turn, people bought their Heroes on Ebay and we will have a flood of noobs coming. We probably won't have a rom update from a major dev ever again, and... it makes me feel empty inside.
Darch is still here, Regaw is still here. Not sure who else is.
Toast and flipz have said hero dev will continue, just slow. I think jschi didn't jump ship either. And he is a genius

When I saw Damage's new update, my heart skipped a beat..=(
But there is no hate at all towards those who went to the Evo.
I mean, they were doing it for free, so we can't really get mad lol.
But to answer, yes, I feel slightly empty.

Heh. Look at the bright side: now other people can take over the reigns; and trust me, some people here are more than capable at doing so.
Don't feel empty, but I am a little upset with HTC. They've pretty much made us dependent on the developers here. I would be fine with stock roms, but it's pretty clear that HTC is pretty much done supporting the Hero. 2.1 is it and the update comes with its own issues that weren't in 1.5.
I got an Android phone with the assumption that it would be supported with the latest updates at a faster pace and for much longer than what I'm seeing by HTC. It makes it pointless to ever do another contract if I'm going to be stuck with a phone that won't get regular updates from the manufacturer. I'm not sure if I would get another HTC phone. I hope Sprint gets the Nexus One.

^ this and i am thinking that devs from other areas will step into heros now that they can pick them up much cheaper than before the evo was released. look at some of the older phones, they are still going strong in the dev department.
i am not worried even if i end up with 'just' darchdriod as my daily rom for the rest of my contract (another 6 months or so).

I'm not that sad... lol. I am, however, sweltering, tired, and need to turn my AC on. Darchdroid is the best OC rom out there, and RegawMOD is the best NON-OC rom out there, so I think we are pretty good in the dev side of things.

The Hero is sort of the unwanted stepchild of XDA now. But, all the first-time Ebay adopters are coming to our "rescue".
I cant do what flipz, damage and darch do. Just naming top 3 roms.
But i can put things together and fix broken things. Ill be stuck with my hero for quite some time. So im always willing to collaborate with others to get something working.
Also im sure we could ask a few questions here and there to the main devs for advice and help. No matter what phone they currently use.
I think we have almost everything we can think of, OC, roms, JIT, themes etc.. I think that covers all the big breakthroughs for are hardware restricted phones. But we can always improve on them, many here are capable. So yeah it sucks these big names left but im honestly not worried about the future of the CDMA hero.
Save up and buy an evo.
This is just how the phone loop rolls, once theres something better , you don't go back.
I will be keeping my hero, but yeah look at it this way , XDA devs are not the only ones dumping the phone , so is sprint.

I don't know why the EVO still does not have full root that can support custom recovery without a computer and since it doesn't have full permissions you can't pull stock apk's and wifi tether does not work. So you can be happy that you have a fully customizable phone for now.

It does have "full root" but the storage has nand locked/protected. It's like that little switch on and SD card or floppy to protect it only its software not hardware theyll break it in a week or two. You can pull apks in recovery... and WiFi tether needs a netfilter kernel so give em a week and it will work.

I love my hd2. It's good to see another Coloradan on Xda.
I frankly am getting sick of all the HD2 bashing on the tech mag sites. Most of what they write seems to be laden down with hearsay and hyperbole. I find myself actually registering with certain sites simply to comment back about how the HD2 really is an amazing phone as long as one learns how to use Sense and WM 6.5.
But now T-Mobile has moved on to the Galaxy as their "flagship phone". Guess they were too nervous to put their chips in with a WinMo 6.5 phone...whateva!

we got it here so late that many other newer and better phones have been designed for the market it seems.

Just can't say goodbye....

to my trusty HD2. I've been using the Sensation now for a few months and while I love it, I just can't seem to say goodbye to the HD2. No matter what Android throws at me I still love WM6.5. I still find the HD2 to be a phone that is so easy to live with, so versitile, easy to customise. Hell it even boots up in half the time of the Sensation!
Anyone else who feels like this about the HD2?
The HD2 is an amazing phone, I've given away 2 upgrades to friends and am still using my HD2...albeit not on wm6.5.
I'm using Android and WP7...for this reason alone it's still, IMO, the best phone available for its versility and power.
