Just want to go back - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Well after going through "half" process of rooting and loading a ROM onto my phone, I've had enough of a headache, and through some searching I can't find a real clear answer on how to do one thing:
How can I go back to my factory resets of Android 1.6? Because now when I do a factory reset I get to firmware 1.5, and I just want to go back to how I bought my MyTouch 3g
Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else I could not find it; if so and you could point me to that thread it would be appreciated, or by answer here.
Thank you.

I'm using a perfected 32A Magic and (having my head up my ass) updated to the latest update for my phone, which included Sense UI. I asked HTC support if I could get the factory delivered ROM back, which did not include Sense UI. The short answer: This is not possible. The longer answer: If you are having a perfected Magic (if you have updated with the official HTC updates it is likely you have a perfected phone) with one of the latest updates, you are not going to be able to go back at this time. If you already have a rooted and non-perfected Magic, well, then it's just a matter of finding the right ROM for you, which shouldn't be hard. Check in the Android discussion for that.

Did you happen to create a backup using flashrec.apk? if so then you simply need to dump the file from your SD card to memory.
I would suggest that you look up theunlockr.com for detailed instruction WITH video. you wont regret it.

Rooting Rogers HTC Dream

Hello,
Is it possible to root the HTC Dream from rogers yet? I just purchased one yesterday and I am not sure if the procedure is the same as for the T-Mobile G1.
Thanks
I too would like more information on this. Thanks in advance.
Dream...
I believe the Dream and the G1 are actually the same devices. So what you can do to one, should also apply to the other.
I am curious to try the G1 procedure, but I am wondering a few things... Biggest thing is if rogers would be using the same key to sign the updates? and second is if downgrading to rc29 would brick my phone.
I wouldn't use the DREAIMG.NBH rooting procedure on the Rogers Dream. If I recall correctly, it includes a radio image (please correct me if I'm wrong). If that's the case, you wouldn't want to try to flash the radio from the G1 to your Rogers version that uses different frequencies.
I would venture a guess that the method Haykuro used to root the Sapphire would work, and should be safe to try even if it doesn't. Go here:
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
I got that from a post in the Sapphire forum here on XDA Developers.
The key is to flash the recovery image with the rooted recovery image. I don't know what difference there may be between the magic and dream recovery images - you may want to grab the modified recovery image specifically for the dream and use it instead of the one on the wiki page.
Wish I had a Rogers Dream so I could try it. If any of you with this handset try it, post the result here!

I'm wondering this too. I'm not new to flashing devices etc but THIS is all new to me lol ... I found more info on This page that also explains about the radio however, I'm not sure what all applies or how things change with the Rogers phone. The more I read the more confused I get. One site said follow the link above and you wont have any problems, another said dont follow the site in order but do the radio first then flash the SPL.
Can someone please confirm the steps required to root the Rogers phone and then flash haykuro's ROgers ROM please? I just dont want to brick my device if at all possible (not that anyone really wants to brick their phones).
THanks guys!!
I am going to see if I can boot any of the recovery images without flashing them. I read in a thread thats possible....
None of the recovery images I've tried will boot on my device, Haykuro told me he's working on a solution with dream_kill to root this device.
So it can't be rooted yet?

ya we must be patient.
i don't do that so well
the waiting game
I will be waiting as well. Though as soon as the US rooting procedure failed for me, I felt like Rogers had just bent me over and shoved a big rusty sand covered......you get the idea. Was it not enough to put Rogers logos all over the phone, but you had to take away our rooting ability's as well? How sad. But I like the phone too much to take it back Oh well, wait and hope for the best
All you guys (and girls) working on this, you totally rock!
Well, guess we're all in the same boat. I have been reading some of the other threads though, seems like maxawesome, has the Rogers Dream version, and had success rooting and flashing a few days ago, maybe he could share? Looks as though he is the first and possibly only to get root so far for rogers. I tried sending a pm to him, but not sure it went through. You should try, he has some posts in the "rogers rom" thread, just doesn't indicate which SPL version he ended up using.
I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Lets just hope we get to rooting our phones soon!
Just a suggestion: Perhaps you Canadians can try the goldcard method used for non-US/UK Dreams described in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364
EDIT: Sorry, I forgot that the updated SPL may cause bricking when the older radio is used. Please disregard this post!
Wasn't it just the haykuro modified spl that caused bricking? Of course, there is more to the radio on this device, even if it doesn't brick it, may result in a non-functional radio (until the correct radio is put back).
Work in progress
I see haykuro is working on it here
More waiting and searching.
Any other updates on where haykuro (or anyone else working on this) is at?
i think haykuro is looking for a device but its still hard to find in USA.
hrmmm ... wonder if we can put a call out and some extremely generous Canadian can send one to him ... seriously if I had a way to get my hand on another one without having to fork out $700 I'd totally contribute a phone

Going Back to Tmobile Rom?

I am wanting to try a few things on my G1 before I get the mytouch 3g in a couple of days, but I have a friend that wants to buy it from me, but he isnt that tech savvy so I was going to put it back to the normal Tmobile rom, but I want to know if that is at all possible, since it is already rooted or is it once rooted always rooted? I try to stick to lurking but this is just something I am worried about because when I got my G1 it was already rooted so I know nothing about whats what on it, I knew everything about all the other phones that I had because I had done all the modifying myself. I am just cautious thats all. Thanks this is an excellent forum.

No big deal...but I don't see anything in the OP about searching...but the short answer is yes, you can...just (as the above post states) reapply the RC29 image. I just did this on my wifes G1 to send it back as a warranty exchange.

Look at the stickied post with the label "***Informative Threads***" There is a link in there called "UNROOT, get phone to STOCK firmware"
After you follow the directions in the UNROOT thread and reload the original bootloader and RC29, flash to Cupcake. It will pick up the CRC1 update much faster that way, IIRC. I've uploaded Cupcake to my mediafire account.

New G2 Touch (Hero) - need your help.

Hi guys,
I have got my G2 Touch (Hero) sat at home waiting for me and cannot wait to get back and play with it.
I was hoping you guys could help me with the following questions though:
1. How do I know if I should bother rooting it or not? If I root at a later date will I lose all of my other stuff on the phone?
2. How do I know if I have Donut on my phone and if I don't, should I root first or update to donut first?
3. Is there a list of "mush have apps" on the forum... I've spent all day reading articles on "must haves" but was hoping for "real life" feedback from you guys on what I must get.
Thanks

be prepared to wipe everything, as this is the solution for 95% of all problems (people not wiping before upgrade). don't you dare to ask for help before you wiped and reflashed afaik you can get root access without wiping, but i am pretty sure you are going to want a custom rom like modacos rom, and this almost inevitably means you have to wipe.
in q&a there is a thread for what you can do with root. it is not really complete, another try is to search for "root" in the market. most applications that need root access are found by this, so you can see what you could do if you where rooted.

easy one. there is no donut rom for hero (except for a custom one here on the forum, which does not _really_ work), so you don't have it on your phone. imho: don't bother updating to donut rom, unless you know what you are doing.

what about the thread called "must have apps on your Hero" here in the themes&applications section? i don't think it will get any better than that... you need to do the reading yourself, you won't find a post that says "here is a zip with the ten apps you need to be happy" (well maybe you will find it, but i doubt that actually will be happy with it).

I have read about this update on tmobile's website...

If this isn't the Donut update, is it just an updated version of the original rom?

It isn't Donut - it is just the T-Mobile version of the 2.73 ROM. Since your phone is very new, it probably already has it anyway, but to check go to Menu-> Settings -> About Phone, and check the build number. If it starts 2.73, you've already got the updated ROM.
If you get a 1.xx build number, my advice would be *not* to install the T-Mobile update as it will make it much harder for you to move to a custom ROM at a later date. You should download and install a generic 2.73 that has been pre-rooted.

Dave

Hi again guys...
Checked my Touch last night and it is on 1.76
I'm a bit weary about rooting and installing generic / custom roms for fear of voiding the warranty and then owning a £500 brick...
Will updating to 2.73 from tmobile really make it harder to move to a custom rom later....?

Put it this way -if you upgrade to 2.73 via the T-Mobile RUU, in order to move to a custom ROM in future you will have to "downgrade" to a generic HTC 2.73 ROM via a Goldcard (see here) which is much more complicated when you've already got a ROM on your phone which is "exploitable".
The other thing you should bear in mind is that when Android 2.0 is released for the Hero, it will likely first come out as a ROM for unbranded phones with operator branded versions following some time later. This is what happened when 2.73 was released, and T-Mobile in particular was quite tardy in getting its own version out.
So, if you want to go to Android 2.0 sooner rather than later, you should look at a non-T-Mobile version of 2.73 now.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks very much for the advice guys, going to do as you suggested.
Unfortunately I have more questions though:
1. to load the generic 2.73 I just "oneclickroot" (found the video on youtube to follow) and then download the theme and rename it "update.zip" put this onto your memory card, turn off your phone then press and hold the "home" button while pressing the power button.... keep the "home" button down until you get to the recovery screen then select flash the update.zip as you would a rom. Is that right or have I missed anything?
2. Having a Tmobile G2 Touch rather than a Hero won't make any difference to the rom that I choose will it?
3. Will putting a new rom on lose my contacts or widgets / scenes etc?
4. Can you recommend a nice rom to go for, like what you guys are using? Want it to look nice, be stable but fast
Cheers again for the help guys.
Answers!
1. Can't help here as I didn't use the one-click method.
2. No.
3. Yes. However, if you've synced your contacts to Google, you will get them back again once you set the phone up again.
4. Modaco - nuff said.
Regards,
Dave
For a newbie I can recommend 'the unlockr'-Google it- they have easy to follow vids for rooting and flashing roms for the hero. It's really easy and you won't brick your phone if you have half a brain cell.

Anyone with a Root Solution for Rogers HTC Magic? (new update)

This post for anyone who knows how to root the new updated Rogers HTC Magic with the new:
32A
HBoot - 1.76.0010
Radio - 6.35.10.18
Please post any comments or suggestions if they are applicable.
Thank you.
Rogers HTC Magic (32A)
HBoot - 1.76.0010
Radio - 6.35.10.18
I'm in the same boat. Updated my phone with the Rogers updater, and 1.76.0010 seems to be a perfected SPL. I'm going to attempt the gold card method once I get the necessary hardware this weekend. I'm just concerned I might brick my phone, since all the gold card tutorials are pretty old...
+1
Any results?
Diddo, same problem. Tried the "One Click Root", no joy.
I thought that the data connection issue was b/c of the new radio so I foolishly listened to Rogers. Last time I make that mistake.
I am also in dire ned of a method to root this, or even reverse Rogers....
Maybe try the full version of the Relenless Rooter plus (the one for perfected SPL) software? It seems that 1.76.0010 is a perfect SPL.
Thankfully, I read all over the web and decided not to use the security patch that Rogers suggested and did not update. I kept the 1.33.0009 SPL and was able to use the normal Relenless Rooter software. Don't know it the full software will work for the 1.76.0010 SPL but why don't give it a try.
i'm pretty sure it has already been tried, and doesn't work
i too, am in the same boat
rogers kind of bullied us into this update, and i feel really stupid for falling for it.
i hope someone is working on a fix, tho i am yet to read one post saying that someone is.
Not to be mean or rude or a troll, but there were several warnings against updating with the official RUU.
In fact the "Rogers Mandatory Update Thread" many people mentioned many times to just wait till it was rooted then flash the rooted ROM.
But some people had to be hasty...

Yes and no. What do you expect when Rogers cut off your data if you don't update. If you went to Android forums or here, you'll find what kind of saga people with rooted phones went in order to obtain data back.
So, at that time, people with the original cupcake had three choices: Root the phone and go through curse droid's complicated process to get his rom, root and find another Rom + patch so as to trick Rogers into believing that the phone has been updated, or just go ahead and flash the official rom (and then hope someone can root it).

Complicated procedure? You are mixing up two methods that made it possible to keep root. For cursor, all u needed to do was flash spl and radio, then his Rom, that's it. There is another method that allows u to keep original radio and. Spl, this one uses a script after applying a new rom. Just giving the facts, I do feel sorry for those that jumped the gun though, i was really close myself

Rogers cut off my data. I rooted phone and applied CursorSense ROM and now i'm good.
I would be happy to help any Roger customers who want to apply this ROM. The steps are pretty straight forward as long as you have some computer knowledge.

That's the reason for this thread. The update includes a new radio and no developer have found a way around it. Maybe the main developers (aka chefs) have moved on to newer and more exciting devices, like the Nexus One.
Who knows, maybe you guys can band together and pay a developer to do this?

It's the SPL that's perfected. Not the radio. And most devs for the 32A are still here. It's mostly G1/Dream devs namely Cyanogen who have moved on to the Nexus One.
Amon_RA is still giving updates to the G1/Dream and MT3G/Magic and Hero.

You are right about the SPL. I meant that too. I mixed Radio and SPL because Rogers is scanning for the new radio even for those who have root, as the developers page show.
Anyway, best of luck to those who upgraded and got the perfected SPL. Maybe someone can ask a favor from one of the developers?
Some help with rooting the 32A magic from rogers
Already asked for help via PM, no dice. I suspect that after the update the devs are inundated with requests. I'm happy to pay for someone to figure this out, but don't really know who to approach. Anyone?
So still no luck on anyone rooting this update... This is taking a lot longer then I thought it would. I only did the update because I was sure someone would be willing to jump right on and root this new SPL but no dice.

G1 1.6 official firmware

I have a question I've been trying to resolve looking through the threads and have been unable:
I have a g1 that's rooted running android 1.5, and from what I can tell its either on the official t-mobile firmware or the developers firmware... I want to upgrade to android 1.6 mostly just for the text to voice and the voice navigation in google maps. I don't really want to load custom roms though... Is there anyway to load into android 1.6 and keep root, but have everything else the standard firmware?
developer.htc.com/adp.html
You can grab the official ADP1v1.6 firmware and write that to your device for a stock-but-root system image. (note: stupid people will tell you that it doesn't have root. They are incorrect, it most definitely DOES.)

It just gives the impression of not having root by flashing the stock recovery (which many people consider root for some reason)
oh lovely, after following those steps. The radio went fine the phone rebooted fine, but after the recovery image, the phone hangs on the android screen for a long time, and then pops up with continues force close error messages. I also can no longer boot into recovery it gives me a picture of a phone with an exclamation point.
Anyone have any ideas?
oh n/m. That exclamation point screen was in fact the recovery screen, it was different before i installed this. I formatted the memory card and wiped the data, and that seemed to do the trick, I'm up and running in 1.6 developers build. thanks guys =-)
Yeah, when I read your previous message I was about to suggest that...
Newbie-ish question
Hey all,
I know this sound a bit amateur, but I was just wondering if it were possible to flash the same G1 Dev Rom onto my Rogers HTC Dream running the newest "perfect" firmware. I would imagine that the HTC one is officially signed so the phone wouldn't have any trouble accepting this...can anyone confirm? I just wanted to make sure before I go ahead and do anything as I'm new to the whole Android thing. Thanks!

You're right. You're definitely an amateur
1) There is *no such thing* as a "G1 Dev". There is an "Android Dev Phone 1" (aka "ADP1"). G1 and ADP1 are both HTC DREAM, as is the thing that was sold by robbers (although the robbers-crippled dream has some minor differences).
2) Though signed, it still won't write onto your phone since it is signed with a DIFFERENT SIGNATURE.
3) If you *did* manage to write it, you would be effectively bricked since the ADP1 kernel won't boot on the robbers-crippled-dream. At this point, it *might* be possible to write the same firmware that you already have on it again to fix the brick, but since nobody has gotten to this stage, it is unknown.
Haha glad I didn't go ahead and do anything stupid, then! Thanks for enlightening me!
Cheers

Don't worry, because of the incorrect signature, you couldn't have hurt it even if you tried.
