best video format - Touch2 General

Whats is the best video format for HTC Touch2?

mp4 / mpeg4 / avi
it's not the format ... it's the quality which is important ... !

yay, but sometime mp4 format quality not so good.. i am findin the best quality video format.. xD

if the video passed through many programs , even in the best suitable format , it would have loss of quality ! dont measure the format , measure the quality ! i've seen many films in mp4 which are better thant .avi or mpeg

Suggest some converter?

Total video converter is the best.

thx, i gonna try it out now!

but i want a free software.

opps, found it!xD

nah, its not free

You might want to give Any Video Converter a shot

To play avi files you need core player... or you can also use Divx player (freeware).

Hi All,
I dont know whether this helps or not, but this is what i do to view movies on my Touch2,
I have downloaded DivX Encoder (google it) its free.
I encode all my movies using this encoder & then use TCPMP player to play them on my device.
Works like charm..

can i not just convert a video file to mp4 or the correct file type and play it through windows media that cam on the device?
Depends on what you are using to encode the video. The WMP may not have the decoder. Although, AVI movies all have the same *.avi, all AVI movies can be different, depending on what encoder you used to encode the video and the audio. Hence, not all player is able to play all AVI movies. I think it goes relatively the same to MP4 also.
Anyway, what format are you trying to convert. You can go Microsoft homepage and download their Windows Media encoder to encode your stuff into WMV format which should play nicely on your phone.
I have been using Xilisoft MP4 convertor, converting from .avi to .mp4
I will try out the Windows Media encoder and encode into WMV format.
Thanks for the info
converted ok but its not full screen when selected..! any ideas?
its ok sorted it out...!!!!!!!!!

any good video apps out there...?

what's the best application to watch video on the wizard...? I've been converting avi videos to 3gp with total video and it's been working, but is there anything for WM6 that will play avi files...? converting them to 3gp is great for saving space (converting an avi video to 3gp makes it roughly 1/10th the original size), but the video quality is pretty bad...
TCPMP works great, google it.
thanks, I'll do that...
TCPMP
Here you go...
thanks MACkjam...
i like tcpmp the best, but you can also use win media on your phnoe and get the video on there by using windows media convertor, a free download on microsoft.com as long as you have a legit copy of windows on your pc.
I've been using total video converter and converting them to mp4 files, they play on the WM6 media player...
to save space, I used 3gp format, but the quality of the video is horrible...
Google this: pocket divx encoder
Enjoy. Its the best
Here you go for PocketDivxEncoder...
Works like a charm..
pocket divx converter likes to crash on windows vista...

How to play .AVI files on X1?

i remember just dragging n dropping avi movies on my Blackberry bold ..i can just play the movie and enjoy it.
but on X1..the Windows media player says 'cannot play the file'
why?
isnt it supposed to be more friendly with such formats?
NO..i am not willing to pay for a software just to play a world famous .avi format.
avi
simple answer is NO you can not play avi's out of box. you have a couple options....either re-encode the video to another format or dl a different player. I like coreplayer and i know alot of other people like it as well. some people just get the divx player but you have to know what was used to encode the video as avi is only the container file and not the encoder.
most of my videos are DivX encoded...
so is it possible to install DivX codec on X1 and then play those files?
really sad but..i thot i can just drag n drop the movies on my mSD and watch
yeah using coreplayer or TCPMP
not sure if the codecs works with windows mobile media player though
but those 2 players does the job
Okay thanks a lot for the quick response guys.
i got hold of Coreplayer....just wanted to try.
it works..i just dragged n dropped some TV shows and movies ..and they work fine
i have yet to see such an awesome clarity on a mobile phone.
this is even better than bold because i can see the movies in widescreen and the contrast is superb

a500 as movie player

hi, just wanted to share my experience on finding a worjing solution for my movie playing needs:
- my phone is a galaxy S and i expected tegra2 to outperform it in every way, movie-wise, that's not the case.
- normally i use mvideoplayer but since it relies 100% on native decoding, it wont open most of my files, avi, mkv, etc
- i installed vplayer, rockplayer (normal and optimized), qqplayer, moboplayer, besides the bundled nemoplayer and none was able to correctly decode a 720p mkv (1.5gb game of thrones episode). a couple were able to play it with sound, but they all lagged too much.
- for SD XviD rockplayer worked fine but it doesnt support subtitles, qqplayer displayed subtitles but it dropped frames. moboplayer + armv7vfp3 codec decoded the avi correctly and with subtitles.
- 720p youtube "rips" from tubemate worked fine on mvideoplayer, they use mp4 container and most likely base or main profile.
so... for tv shows from torrent, use avi and moboplayer. for hd content, hopefully they'll be 720p and main profile.
anyone knows what kind of file are the "BRRip" flying around on the net?
cheers.

edit: this should have been in general, sorry, my bad.
Bluray rip

I had an identical problem: I was also dismayed at not being able to watch a Game of Thrones MKV file!
I gave up on MKV and tried watching a 720p AVI (BRrip in Xvid/AC3) on moboplayer, and it worked flawlessly--even got the subtitles file to work. It's a huge pain in the ass, but converting to xvid/AVI might be the best bet. I'm going to do it remotely on my home PC while I'm at work
yeah, MKV files not working properly or at all is a bit of a bugger, but now i've been converting them into high def (720p) mp4's using some custom settings for Handbrake that i found either here or another forum (can't remember which, lol), works a treat and looks great on the A500!
i looked around for 720p avi files, i didnt think they would look so good.
i still saw some dropped frames but that could have been because i was using CIFS to acces the 2tb hdd on my htpc.
but i still wonder the mp4 BRRips, there's something weird with those filesm even the galaxy S refused to play some of them...
anyway, in short, if available prefer 720p avi...

How did you get the subtitles to work? Did you use .sub or .srt subtitles? And witch program to convert?
I have found that if you use rockplayer in hardware mode and your videos are x/h264 video and AAC audio the results are very acceptable playback
@Ramius71: no conversion, just an SD .avi file with .srt subtitles
the .avi was a 174mb tv episode and the .srt downloaded from opensubtitles
@Yatyas: could you give an example please? .mkv or .mp4? i have several .mp4 that play well but most are ripped from youtube or things like that...
downloaded HD movies and TV episodes don't work for me, even in rockplayer...
has anyone tried VLC on the Iconia yet?

I have found that as long as it is encoded with x.264 or h.264 on the video and AAC on the audio regardless of the wrapper .mkv or .mp4 I get very good performance from the hardware decoding when using Rockplayer.
I have found many .mp4 and x264 files that have AC3 for the audio and I re-encode using handbrake changing just the audio to AAC and everything seems to work well

[Q] Copy Movies ??

Hi .
SO i just got my Glaxy tab and i am trying to move a few video files from my PC to the tab .
When i try to copy them Windows 7 suggest me to convert them .
So when i am copying MP4 files without convert they look so small that i can bearly see anything . But if i try to convert them i takes about 3 hours to copy a 500MB file ?
When trying to copy WMV file without converting it doesnt work ...
Any suggestion or best practice on moving video files to the tab ?
I have movies in mp4 and m4v and they also look small in the included video player. However, in mVideoPlayer they fill the screen just fine.
I just downloaded a 700mb file via Dropbox and it took about 25 minutes.
Convert them using your own software then transfer them over, or don't convert and use a different video player that can stretch your video (Rock Player, mVideoPlayer, VPlayer).
imo this is the place the tablet is the most lacking - default video player is absolutely balls.

Use MoboPlayer. Its free and they have a codec for 3.1 tabs that plays anything. You can also view default size, full screen, vertical stretch, and 16:9. Definitely the was to go...just drag/drop, deny conversion, and play with MoboPlayer.
MKV Video Format Supported?

Yeah, supports 720p mkv, dunno about 1080p.

It did not support 1080p for me. I had the same video file in both 720p and 1080p. Mobo played the 720p perfectly, but would not open the 1080p version.
I dont think you need to convert anything. Just copy the file and play it in Mobo Player or Rock player. I think you can ignore the Windows notification and try the playback on the Tab first.
720p works fine

I just tested the 720p and it works beautifully. Also works for mkv movies I just loaded! Fantastic!!
Another option is to use a program like xmedia recode to convert the file into native resolution for the tab; and in a container which is compatible, then push it to you tab.
This is usually how I get my movies to work on my droid; haven't tried it yet, but it's on the list of things to do tonight.
for those that say they've had luck with the MKV container, can you share your encoding profile? I've not been able to get a high profile encoded video to play in an mkv container. I can demux & remux into an mp4 container and the same video works. But, I loose the ac3 audio.
Still at work.

I didnt encode the mkv movie that I have...I snagged it from my brother but when I get home tonight I'll look it up and post it back here.
Transferring movies
I usually use SwiFTP and Cyberduck to transfer movies to my IO tab. Since I'm on a mac, there's no native usb transfer capability, and it only takes about 3 minutes to transfer a 700mb avi.
Thanks.
Mine are encoded with High L4.0. I think MKVs will only work if they are L3.1 or lower.
I for one would just let windows convertthem. It takes forever but it works perfectly. Did this with RED 720p and rhe movie played flawlessly in diff media playes. Didnt do it with a 720p episode of southpark and all media players had good audio but video was lagging behind. Mobo almost had it in sync but even that was off by a bit. Gonna go convert a bunch of music videos andput those suckers onhere
