Since yesterday my HD2 has been trying to connect to the internet, but i have no applications open.
I want to find out which process is making the connection, Any ideas?
Just for background, i installed the metal-detector and Co0kies home tab 1.6.1 yesterday... is there any reason why either of these would try to connect?

time? i didn't know that could be update a server... but whose server would it go to? O2's? Microsoft?
where is the setting for that?
Settings -> data services, like the others... Just make sure all the items on there are deactivated.
Most likely uses the same servers/sources than desktop PCs.

HI,
Whenever I go into my notifications it says mobile web and then has a time counting up. I'm assuming this is the data connection? Should this always be on, even when I have wifi connected? (I do have automatic sync set on my email accounts) If this is always running is it using data, or is it only using data as and when things are sent/received?
Cheers

It keeps the connection open so it can be used instantly. It's not actually doing anything unless a program actually uses it.
There is software in the forums for closing the data connection when it's not in use, but I'm not a fan of this so I can't advise you on it. There's plenty of reading matter about though

So it's not actually using any data then whilst no programs are using it?

Nope - it just stays open for convenience. There will be a tiny amount of data sent (a few bytes every few minutes - maybe 1KB a day) just to keep the connection alive, but that's all.

Suddenly today Email app refuses to connect to Gmail!
It can send emails but not receive saying error. Also connection test gives error.
Gmail itself works but it's disgusting app so I don't use it and it doesn't even store emails on phone.
Did Google change it's policy or what? Help please.
Everyone can't connect to gmail imap servers too.

No I didn't.
I just set it up on my phone and it seems to be working... could it have been a glitch on the imap servers?

Hi,
I have an issue that I'm not sure how to solve.
I have a Gmail account that I access via the TF and my X10 phone, and my laptop.
When I do things like delete mail from my laptop gmail, and then I open up gmail on my TF (or my X10 for that matter) those same emails will still be there...I have to manually delete them from my android devices.
Is there a setting I'm missing that needs to be set differently?

How long are you waiting between the moment you delete the e-mail(s) from your laptop and the moment you check your devices to see if they register that the e-mail(s) are actually gone? When you access your Gmail account from your laptop are you using the web-based Gmail page or have you setup your favoured e-mail client to receive them instead? If you're using the web-based method then try waiting a few minutes for your Android devices to catch up to the latest change, it should eventually sync the changes.

That's weird , after only a minute or so of making changes to my Gmail account such as changing a message's label my devices usually have caught up by then. The changes to my mind should get sent to your TF when you next connect to WiFi, or if you're already connected it should get 'pushed' within a minute or two. As for how often you 'should' sync your folders, your choice .
Well maybe something is set wrong on my android devices....
I can be out...delete a read email on my phone, an hour later go to my TF or my laptop and have to delete the same email from there.

Try the other way round, i.e. delete an e-mail or make some other change like a label change on the TF first, then check the phone and tell me if anything different happens.
I take it that you are not using the Gmail app?
Regards,
Dave

That went really fast...maybe one minute or so. I deleted it off of the TF and within 1 minute it was off of my phone and I checked Gmail on the laptop and it was gone too...
Maybe it's only when deleting from the web version that it takes a while to be gone from the tf?
I'll try again...maybe this was all my imagination...or there was just a temporary glitch.

In the TF?
Yes. right from inside the TF...not the web based one.

Check the account sync settings on your phone, perhaps your phone isn't currently set to auto-sync any changes or new stuff to your account.
The only thing this sounds like is that you have syncing turned off.

I mean the TF app called "Gmail" as opposed to the one that is called "Email" - the reason I ask is that you are talking about IMAP and the Gmail app does not use IMAP.
Regards,
Dave
The IMAP settings are in my phone...not the TF.
I'm not sure what's going on now...it seems to be working fine....I think that there was a setting wrong and I also wasn't paying attention to what was going on...
Anyway to fix this? I need my email real time for work and have to manually refresh to get new email.

If you are using Gmail 2.3.5, check out the feedback ratings on the market. A LOT of people are complaining about that issue, as well as the fact that the update disabled the functionality of third-party widgets.
If you're not using 2.3.5, for the love of God turn off automatic updating and don't install the newest version...

Enable it, the stock email app doesn't like it to be unchecked, especially if you're dealing with an Exchange server at all.
