ROMs on AT&T N1 - Nexus One General

All,
Just received the N1 for AT&T and I went straight to FastBoot. Here's what we have on the N1:
NEXUSONE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.33.0012
MICROP-0b15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0103
RADIO-4.04.00.03.2
Is it save to flash current ROMs (say Cyan's or NexDesire)? What does FastBoot on the T-Mobile N1 show?
And no, I haven't rooted yet. I'll do that after I play with the N1 for a while.
Update:
From Cyanogen's twitter: Someone from Modaco forum tested Cyan's ROM on the AT&T N1 and it's working!
Another thread over at Modaco also has Custom ROM for EPE54B. Works fine with AT&T N1.
That thread is also on XDA here.

How is the 3g connection
?

Testing. Can someone post FastBoot from the T-Mobile N1?

same as vnphantom, i will get the N1 850 tomorrow.
here is the info for the device:
EPE54B

its same as the "normal" N1, so you can flash root/sb and roms with no problem, but make sure that you do an nand backup before.
btw: i didnt try it yet...

i hpe so ill be getting mine 2morrow....

Here's what in Setting on the AT&T N1:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03.2
Kernel version: 2.6.29.01117-g4bc62c2 | [email protected] #1
Build number: EPE54B
So, seems like baseband and build number are the same ... I think it should be save. Could we get a third opinion from a dev?
Thanks.

I don't see any reason why this shouldn't work! Nandroid first ofc, but radio versions seem the same, so it should be fine!

You have identical radio version as us, just nand first so you can go back if you want/need to, but you ain't gonna brick it flashing cyanogenmod, for example. No reason it shouldn't work just fine.

I have the 0103 panel on an AWS N1 ordered on launch day. There is probably nodifference.

ROMs made for T-Mobile Nexus One should work just fine on the AT&T version...only difference is network bands.
On another note, I switched to T-Mobile (from AT&T) when the Nexus first came out. I'm thinking of going back to AT&T and getting the AT&T version, solely because the 3G network is generally rather unreliable/weak. I'd love to see how 3G is on the AT&T Nexus One...if someone could post more speed tests that confirm the speeds I saw in an earlier post, then that would be great

I did the same thing and I hate t-mobile. There 3g is a joke in my area. I have a 2 yr contract with t-mobile. If I leave early I will get charged from google and t-mobile. Such bs. I wish I never bought the nexus one for t-mobile.

HTC magic e911 update rootable

i just recently got a htc magic with the e911 update just wondering is this is rootable ?
I'm just wondering, have you searched?
Answer is No.
Ok so I got my shiney new HTC Magic from rogers, for f*cking free thanks to that deal that enabled dream owners to get the magic for free. I harassed for a month an a half. But I am loving it, I'm using it as my main phone. But I can't find anything on rooting the new update for the damn thing. Is there even a name for this update. I'm glad I signed that waiver for dream owners. Cuz if I did it for the dream, I would have a useless peice of ****. So as the first guy asked, where is the root?
I have search and i am unable to find a straight answer.

Straight answer: No.
If the update becomes rootable, it would be clear.
but I red that there was a work around like we have to make sure we have the same radio as the new update so like that rogers won't know we are rooted users and dont get the data cut off is that true or it's just bogus?

You need a rooted phone to get the work around. If you update to the newest update then there is no point in trying this loophole since you have the newest SPL and radio that they want you to have.
The newest update is not rooted.
If you have a Rogers Magic with the new update and ARE NOT using it in Canada on Rogers (ex: in US on ATT), can you change the ROM to a rooted ROM or am I just SOL on Wifi Tether?

That doesn't make much sense -- if the newest updated ROM (1.76.0010 for ROGERS) is not rooted, what makes you think you can change the ROM if your not in Canada? It's still the same unrooted SPL.
If you try using WiFi tethering, you are going to get billed up the ying yang with charges with roaming and tethering charges if you don't have a tethering package.

That is what I was asking, just didn't phrase it right. I've switched to 32A Magic from a MT3G to have 3G bands for AT&T. So far not impressed with this Rogers ROM, almost makes me want to deal with EDGE again just so I can use a ROM that I like. Thanks for your answer.

No problem. Just make sure you watch out for the tethering, heard some bad stories with ROGERS + tethering.
There are so many topics about this now.. you'd think Rogers would do something about it.
What could Rogers possibly benifit from "locking" this phone like this. Kinda takes away from the 'open-sourceness' of the device.

ROGERS just wants you to have their ROM with their applications. That is really all it's about. ROGERS says "we have to test out updates to see if they work with our network" but we all know it's bulls--t; you can flash any ROM and you still receive phone calls, SMS, MMS, internet and still get 3G with no additional billing or problems with your phone.
All they really want is to lock you down so you can't unlock your phone (therefore taking your phone to other providers). You bought the phone from ROGERS, ROGERS wants everyone to know that you are with ROGERS.
Im pretty sure HTC are the ones who locked it when they made this firmware update. Rogers didnt make the update.

Not really, it was probably at Rogers request. If carriers are going to do stuff like that (which they are entitled to), then HTC or Google should make unbranded versions available for people who want the phone, but aren't on that network.

ROGERS is the only one to have the 1.76.0010 SPL for a reason; paid for the SPL and branding on the ROM. They keep implimenting newer systems to try and block out non-ROGER ROMs. They want to lock it down, HTC didn't have to, they have no reason to.
You know what, come to think if it, ROGERS probably knows about the .29 kernal bypass for rooting and are reluctant to update to the newer kernal.
Food for thought!

It only works with the 2.6.29 kernel and it's a slim chance of it happening -- It's basically just brute-forcing root access. Magic 32A has the 2.6.27 kernel and does not have this bug allowing root access.

I am on Reliance India and using Sprint on phone in Reliance
but some how all Latest Sprint Dump ROM dont work for 1x Data in India with all Radio
Old 1.56 RUU get me back to 1.5 Cupcake version with Data but all Damaged 2.05 and fresh ROM 2.02d Breaks the 1x Data Radio
Let me try this
Good Work
It's everything I would have expected to see in a 2.1 release from my carrier. The apps included are exactly what I remember being on my stock 1.5 but running much smother. I've only used it for 24 hrs or so (and now am awaiting a link yet another new rom to try out LOL) battery life seems good but had to get rid of 50% time without signal with airplane mode. nothing new. I couldn't get google voice outbound to work even using the 0.2 ver. but vmail came through fine. Superuser and all the lights worked. Had to use the fix to get quick Boot working
all in all tho GOOD WORK!! I Liked it.
Thank you
All ROMs that sprint has released they mostly work with CS Hero just few little problems here and there.
I will link this post if you dont mind to my post.
Thank you again

This radio works fine on the Eris. Still, use caution when flashing it and if your phone explodes don't spam the dev forum asking for help.
No more not being able to make/receive calls as of yet. Also it seems my wifi tether works now but may have been the new ivan rom that came out.
I recommend against flashing non-Eris specific radios.
Do it at your own risk.

Yeah, that's not true dude. Flashing an incorrect radio update CAN completely brick your phone. Flashing a radio update updates your SPL. If the SPL isn't compatible with your phone/kernel, it could very well completely ruin your phone beyond recoverable.
You're lucky, but for future reference, it's a really bad idea to go flashing any ol' radio update except one that's been tested and working with your phone and kernel.

This is why I felt comfortable with flashing the radio...
The ONLY reason I flashed this radio is due to the fact that others did this with no bad side effects (so far). Also, toastcfh has tested other heroc radios on an Eris with no bad side effects (so far) as well as done some good research for us by flashing the radios and seems to be quite knowledgeable when it comes to them.
I'm not authorizing that you should go flashing "any 'ol radio" but heroc and desirec radios seem to be created with the intention of being used on Sprint and Verizon according to research by toastcfh.
toastcfh said:
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.

I believe that was/is a bug with the nexus lock mod. I remember when lwp mod first came out I tried it and noticed the sim card message. I have not gone back to that since so I can't be 100% sure.

Is anyone experiencing any issues with this one, I have flashed this radio and my 3G signal is not as good as it used to be.
I have 2 Eris' one stock (baseband 2.32.40.11.09) and one rooted with 2.42.00.03.10. The stock gets 4 3G bars with -70dBm while the rooted Eris gets 2 or less bars with -52 dBm.
From what I'm seeing, 3G speed is also suffering on the Eris with the newer baseband. Can anyone make sense of this?

yeah that's what doesn't make sense to me. the rooted phone says it has a better signal strength, but I'm only getting 2 3G bars (at most!).
I would like to test it but I am unable to find the original 2.32.40.11.09 radio image.
@above
metering has changed in more recent radios. aka bars vs signal strength is different.
soooo is this a yes or no go for flashing?
I tried this out, no noticeable difference in signal strength or speed where I am. Flashed it back to the newest ERIS radio...

Well at least all Nexus ones bought from the Google Store without going through the carriers should have the same radio. Not taking into consideration which android version at time of purchase of course.
Anyway South Korea is the only country in Asia that sells the Nexus one on its own through its local carriers, so this radio is probably Korean.

Apparently the newest one (5.12) isn't so great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828185
Interesting, but hardly scientific.
There is too much variation in the network itself. I can keep my phone in the same spot all day, and watch it fluctuate between H, 3G, E, G, and even no signal at all...
I think it may be indicative, but would need many more data points to be conclusive (1000's).
Good effort though, and certainly worthy of note...

Agreed, more people should do the test and THEN only could we do an average and compare the results...
My phone came with 5.08 on stock, then I went to 4.06 by mistake and it was pretty awful...In the end, I decided to try 5.12 and, as I said, it feels a lot snappier than the 4.06 and maybe even than the 5.08...I also think that the technology used could have something to do (frequencies of your network and such)
It's always hard to compare wireless speeds because there is nothing constant and physically exactly repeatable...still good job on the comparison though...we all know that any of the 5.x are better than 4.x anyways
Agreed!
Since switching to 5.12 I don't think I've ever dropped below 3G for any significant period. I don't know if my speeds are any faster, but its certainly more reliable... (5.08 seemed faster, but would frequemtly drop down to E/G, and occasionally loose signal).

the deal is there is different firmware for the radios... firmware is basically a software update for the hardware but its localized to that specific component rather than like a driver for say your video card on your computer which you can tweak and stuff.
so in this case, his radio is the same however is firmware is different... its a newer version... one major difference in n1 firmwares is the 4.0 versions cannot do HD recording, only the 5.0 versions can... the hardware was limited by the firmware version it had... another thing was if you had this phone early on there was an OTA which gave us a new radio that improved the 3g connectivity for a lot of us... hope this helps

i believe what he meant, which is correct, is that all nexus ones, whether a euro version, ATT version, or tmobile version, all use the identical radio firmware, whether that is the 4.06, 5.08 or 5.12. sure each one will use different frequencies, but there is no 5.08 for an ATT version vs 5.08 for a tmobile version. its the same radio file for all.

Two AWS streaks on ebay right now

Just a heads up there are two on ebay right now, ending tonight. The same seller I got mine from.
AWS= they work on the tmobile 3g bands.
I dont know where this guy is getting them from but he has had a few over the past few weeks. I kinda would like to find out.

Some of my friends make fun of it,I think they have no clue.I know it is big...that's the main reason for me to have it.
Hahaha, no worries. I am mister sarcasm. Should get it tomorrow, can't wait to see how it is. Father in law has my other HD2 but he showed interest. Might have to get my HD2's up to get him an att version.
Could anyone with an AWS streak post their full baseband version? I'd like to know what the region is named. Eg: GAUSB1A131800-US for a us streak and GAUSB1A131800-EU for a european streak
If no one else does I will tomorrow hen it arrives in the mail. Dell US tech support had no idea what I was talking about so the AWS ones must be Euro. Ebay listing also mentioned them as being Euro.
that would be kind of ironic, since no providor in europe uses aws (unless im mistaken)
That is what I thought. Unless there is another band on the phone that Euro ones have. Are not some of them 900/2100??? So these ones might be 900/1700/2100????????
What is the sellers name? I have been looking for AWS streaks
Seller is oreba77
baseband is:
GAUSB1A134100-AWS
Phone is 900/1700/2100...
341? could you post your build number? thanks for the baseband string!
Android version: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Version: GAUSB1A34100
Build Number: 14917
Another entry to the list, unfortunately, I cant seem to download it off the dell servers. Seems like 333 and 341 are ment for aws streaks but i have no idea what the URL is for them. I have to resist the urge to ask you for the build fingerprint lol. You've already helped plenty
Where is that located.
As a side note. Can not root this ***** at all. Tried z4root, couple versions of superoneclick, and universal androot.
If you really wanted to you would need to open up /system/build.prop and look at the entry ro.build.fingerprint, but you need to root to read it.
Example fingerprint from stock 318: ro.build.fingerprint=dell/streak/streak/8x50:2.2/FRF91/eng.cmbuild.20101203.104229:user/release-keys
Nah, have root explorer and can read it:
ro.build.fingerprint=dell/streak/streak/8x50:2.2.2/FRG83G/eng.cmbuild.20110211.150853:user/release-keys
I guessed, i know you have to root to write it though. If im reading that correctly, your build is actually based on an older version of android, 341 is FRF83G and 318 is FRF91, but my knowledge of build strings is limited, but it's definitely compiled later (it's only 2 weeks old)
