Do you have any experiences playing unconverted video in HTC P4350?
And what about videos from YOUTUBE?
THANX...
Dunno, but for now you can use http://tinytube.net/
Just to clear stuff up:
I'm running DivX Mobile 0.88 on WM6 Herald.
Even if it is NOT overclocked, it plays every divx file fluently. The thing is to encode the files with DrDivx in the first place.
Just put the file you want on your mobile onto DrDivX, set the Mobile Profile and let it encode. Thats it - works very nice and shiny.
reencoding videos? no, thanks
playing with a tmobile wing right now and it plays everything from my site in my signature. so yes it will play xvids mp4s long as they are converted correctly.

well... then its around around 15-20 frames on a HDTV Movie.
It makes NO SENSE adding a 1 GB Movie to the SD Card when you can have SAME QUALITY with 80 MB... its just a matter of will.

I understand it, but I would never do the conversion, because it's time-wasting. I just want to have a CHANCE to watch a divx file sometimes, but for this purpose I will have KAISER, once it's available
well... mark all *.avi and let it convert over night.
100 films in PDA Quality per night...
but ok - wasting time for doing senseless crap is the pleasure of some people in some country with some mobile phones....

hi,
i've got one of the first pda's a t-mobile mda compact. On that device i played wmv files with 320x240 ~350kByte/sec from the sd card. they has a size between 199M and 35MB. With the program "speedy vcr" i record a lot of movies and tv-shows directly into 320x240.
Since this time i only need to copy some records to my sd card an could see my favoried tv-shows or movies. This was funny, when i was traveling by train or plane.
But - since i've got a O2 tera, the videos dont play smooth on that device. it runs with only 3fps. I tested anything to get it smoothly. I tested coreplayer. This software can run xvid and divx videos on that device. But i dont have xvid and divx files and i dont want to convert them.
If the herald pda don't can play videos with the sice of 320x240 in media player this must be a bug in windows mobile. I tested a 160x120 video also with 350 byte/sec and it runs smoothly. The decoder has also to encrypt 350Byte/sec. The only different is the resolution. I suggest that the windows media player transfer the calculation result of the video encoding through a .NET program code. And that is the pottle leak.
At the end - we can't play videos with the media player, because the microsoft programmer are so stupid, they cant reach a life time abouth 35 Years. ( because mom dies, and nobody feed them and they also die )
could somone please direct me to a working link to divx mobile player. I cant seem to find any. http://mobile.divx.com/ doesnt seem to be working. Thanks
Ive used WMP and TCPMP.72 RCO (not sure if thats the name), but for some reason it is still selective over the videos it plays. I managed to get a video 183 mb working fine but other videos in its range wont, while some play sounds with no video. Why is that? is there a limit to the video's quality or size?
I posted this in the XDA general area but put it here incase it had something to do with it being a Wing...any comments on how this can be fixed would be appreciated thanks

To play video on your wing you must convert all video to .3GP format with the following video settings.
320x240 @ 15fps
Actually that is incorrect. The wing will play video files in wmv, mpg, and 3gp through windows media player. TCPMP (The core pocket media player) can play files in avi. I use either Spb mobile dvd or Super to convert my videos. Super has a "convert to avi for pocket pc" option and then you can experiment and tweak it to your liking.
Lots of people still confused and still looking for a solution, I believe.
In the next 5 mins tutorial, you will squeeze the best out of a good old WMP by doing the following;
Code:
WIth this method, you will get much better quality MP4 video compare to FLV video which you need to open with CorePlayer.
1. First, Install the SD TuneUp.
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=130286&d=1226827760
Credit: tnyynt
2. Use "AimerSoft Video Converter"
Code:
http://www.aimersoft.com/video-converter.html
Why?
Some says "Super Converter" is the best bcuz of its performance and its free but here come the new champion, AimerSoft Video Converter.
Let me explain..
Code:
With WMP u need to convert the file in H.264 for the best result.
So, "Super" can do that with 80-90% output quality after converted.
"AimerSoft" will do it with 97-100% output quality after converted.
In conclusion, if u convert 720p, 30 mins length video by "Super" u will more likely to see frame dropping in every 10 min.
With "AimerSoft", u may see it once in a whole clip or not at all.
3. Fire up "AimerSoft" then add your video clip.
4. At "Profile" drop down menu choose "MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4)"
5. Click "Setting" at the right hand side and adjust as the following;
Code:
Resolution: 800*480 (You can type it in if u cant find it)
Frame Rate: 23.97 FPS
Encoder: H.264
Bit Rate: 1500 kbps (Trust me, WMP can handle this bit rate)
**Bit Rate Tip**:
Bit rate is the the most tricky part of converting process so u have to b careful on how u choose a proper bit rate.
Here's how u do it;
If the video has a native resolution [COLOR="Red"]lesser[/COLOR] than 800*480 u can go for [COLOR="Red"]1500 kbps[/COLOR].
If the video has a native resolution [COLOR="Red"]greater[/COLOR] than 800*480 u must choose [COLOR="Red"]900 kbps[/COLOR].
Audio: 44100 Hz 2 Channels Stereo
Encoder: AAC
Bit Rate 128 kbps
6. Click "save As", name "WMP for Touch HD" for next use. (You can name the profile as anything u like)
7. Choose your video output folder.
8. Click start and chill out. ^^
The Pros:
- You dont have to pay for CorePlayer.
- You get much much sharper quality video and very minimum frame dropping. (Download the sample files I provide below and judge for yourself)
- Less hassle and user friendly.
- With "AimerSoft", when u set resolution to 800*480, the bigger resolution will be re-sized, the smaller resolution video will remain as the original but "AimerSoft" will automatically put a frame around the clip so the video will maintain 16:9 aspect ratio.
The Cons:
- You got to pay for "AimerSoft" instead. lolz (About the same price)
=============================================================
This is the sample video converted by AimerSoft useing the exact setting as I describe above.
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/169145053/Empire_Of_The_Sun_-_Walking_On_A_Dream.mp4
Note: You may put this clip into your SD Card and play with WMP straight away.
Another sample video shot from Touch Diamond showing 3 clips with WMP.
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/169196260/VIDEO_005.mp4
Note: This file is for playing with VLC Media Player on PC only and you will have no sound. Sorry about that >_<
=============================================================
NOTE: I am not a "AimerSoft" representative by any mean.
I am not paid by "AimorSoft" to convince you to buy their product in any way.
I am just a sick and bored man who want to relax by watching a good quality video clips on the phone when im at workP) or traveling and wanted to share the information to people who looking for the solution.
Thank you everybody who help and contribute to this forum especially "tnyynt".

Here you go. I made another sample video just to prove my concept.
In this video I use the 77Mb file size, 720p trailer of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" downloaded directly from Apple Trailer with 1280*554 native resolution with top and bottom black boarder.
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/169445296/earthstoodstill_720p_1500kbps.mp4
Details: Converted by [COLOR="Red"]AimerSoft[/COLOR], [COLOR="Red"]800*480[/COLOR] resolution, [COLOR="Red"]1500 kbps[/COLOR], 23.976 fps, H.264 in MP4 format.
You may put this video on to your SD card and play with WMP straight away.
Note: As u can see there is a lag at the beginning and a little towards the end of the movie which i believe its cause by video buffering and data transfer rate of SD Card.
==========================================
http://rapidshare.com/files/169449637/earthstoodstill_720p_900kbps.mp4
This is the same video but converted with [COLOR="Red"]900 kbps[/COLOR] to reduce lag which indeed improve about 10%.
And with the same file but converted in FLV format and need to play with CorePlayer.
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/169445836/earthstoodstill-tlre_720p.mov.FLV
Details: Converted by [COLOR="Red"]SuperConverter[/COLOR], [COLOR="Red"]560*304[/COLOR] resolution, [COLOR="Red"]1200 kbps[/COLOR], 23.976 fps (best setting for CorePlayer as suggested by "tnyynt")
Note: I have to admit that the frame rate is very smooth but really lack in details and sharpness of the video.
Conclusion:
With MP4 format by AimerSoft I have a crisp sharp video but a little suffer from frame dropping.
With FLV format by SuperConverter I have a very smooth frame rate but lag in details and sharpness.
If u ask me, i prefer to suffer a little frame drop to have a very crisp clear and sharp picture rather than smooth frame rate.
Enuff for bla bla bla.. just download and try for yourself.

This is a great forum and I truly appreciate the selfless contributions of the many members, like you. Normally, I can get everything I need just by searching the forum. However, I have a problem and I am not sure if it is unique to me. I can’t get wmp to read mp4 files, even though they were created in the manner you just described. My mp4 files are readable using the native player. Any ideas why wmp won't read them?

WMP wont play your converted mp4 file or it wont play any mp4 files at all?
If WMP dont play just the converted file mayb its the converting process issue.
Just try download the sample video i provided. let c if it play.
If not, i guess its the WMP issue.. u need to reinstall WMP mayb.
What software u use to convert the video? Super or AimerSoft?

I used Aimersoft to convert the video. I finally got it to play. I had to download an H264 codec from an obscure site. Now, the video plays fantastically. I think WMP may have gotten corrupted from my trying out so many different brands of media players.
Again, thanks for the fix. Keep up the good work.
No problem mate. Glad that my TUT help sumbody.
I also noticed that MP4 with H.264 CABAC profile ON dosn't work with WMP
you have to be sure to turn it off to BaseLine
These options are in Super , don't know if VDO has something similar
by the way its in the other thread too,
but you can have a look at the quality using SUPER with this video clip
I don't have the Aimersoft to test the quality but SUPER does a good job converting to MP4,
but it can take several hours for a 8 Gb 1080 file
CABAC profile is set to off by default so that's why i didnt mention about that.
About comparing Super and AimerSoft i dont want to say much cuz i dont wanna course any flame war here and I know lots of people use Super too. (I have both anyway)
NOTE: I recommend AimerSoft Suite cuz it do a lot more than just a converter.
So, what i mainly do with my HD is to watch Music Video and Movie Trailers just to show my friends at work. And since MV and Trailers both are not a huge file so what i normally do is convert the same files with both Super and AimerSoft then play it and compare which one is better to keep.
I know mayb its a waste of time but thats the way i do. ^^
NOTE: It turns out, personally, AimerSoft beats Super by 9:1
NOTE 2: With Step Up 2 movie(its divx dvd-rip 780mb convert done in 1hr 20mins) I just pick AimerSoft to do the job and it was fine like i said apart from the laggy at first 2-3 mins tho.

Don't suppose you can remember where you got that codec? I have the same issue and have been googling for ages without any luck, must be getting late
Many thanks
U can get K-lite codec pack easily by google it, after u install that i recommend u to install CoreAVC pack as well. It improve H.264 and it comes with Haali Media Splitter too.
NOTE: PM me if u cant find them.
Urrrgh, don't use codec packs, they're notorious for screwing up machines.
i have codec pack install in my pc and it doesnt screw anything tho.
can u xplain how it screw your machine?
thank god for multicore processing or this would pretty much make the computer useless for however long it took for the conversion.

Thanks for the response. I think I may have got my wires crossed here. I can get the MP4 to play on WMP on my PC but your sample "Empire_Of_The_Sun_-_Walking_On_A_Dream.mp4" wont play on my HD. It will only open in Album or Coreplayer (although it doesn't play properly). I thought there was an additional codec to get my HD to play the file
This is strange, maybe I will need to do a hard reset already??? No doubt the first of many
Now that is really weird.
Do u have any error log/msg pop up when u try to play it?
Any strange thing happen at all?(such as loading icon appear)
Or its just nothing with black screen?
Q. "I thought there was an additional codec to get my HD to play the file."
A. I dont think u need to install any additional codec to your HD. (I didnt install any extra.)
Code:
Keep this a try >> http://rapidshare.com/files/171066422/h264.cab << Install it and let c if it play. if it doesnt, just uninstall it and do a hard reset.
Tell me if it works.

The message I get from WMP is "Cannot play this file" andf thats it??? I will give that cab a spin and report back.
I tried a Madonna 4 Minutes MP4 video thats been posted on the forum to play on WMP as well and I get the same.
Just had a thought, are people syncing the files to their phones using WMP on the PC??? I am just copying the videos to my SD card manually. Does that make a difference??
I've never really used WMP on any of my WM devices, I've only used Beta Player, TCPMP or Coreplayer. Hopefully Coreplayer will have a release soon with full support for the HD chipset then none of this conversion will be necessary.
I just copy and paste by using Windows Explorer. It make no difference.

I found a cab on the htcdriver.com site. Here is the download link:
www.htcdriver.com/downloads/install/h264codecHTCdriver.com.cab
O.k tried the CAB's still no joy. Will get all my must have CAB's together either tonight or tomorrow and do a hard reset. Then report back.
Would have done it already but the lurgy is making around my home town and I feel like death!
I've been using the TD2 for almost a week now. Really really happy with it,but I haven't tested any videos yet, though it was one of my major priorities behind buying this phone. Actually I am bit concerned after some reviews of the phone by some websites, they stated the Video playback is not up to the mark(Like-Skipped frames,Sound cracking etc.). If this is true then the large 3.2' screen will make no sense and I would be very SAD. So please vote and input your comments.
BTW-By Video I mean AVI files(either .xvid or .divx encoded) for PC playback(VGA or above quality),please don't say anything about .mp4,3gp and Conversion of videos. Maybe CorePlayer is the option,I don't have it as it's not free.
Thanks in advance.
IME the device on its own barely plays any video formats and doesn't even play them so well. I bought CorePlayer and it plays most things and quite well too. Sometimes you just have to pay for stuff. Shame the UI is a bit ropey though.
convert the video first to smaller resolution..it will be better..and yes coreplayer is my favourite player too..
Without saying anything about certain formats we've been asked not to mention , I have converted some films (they had to be converted, they were DVDs to start with!) and have got to a place where I'm happy, extremely, very slight lip-sync issue, but watchable, and on the 3.2 screen they look great, no issues with Video, just need to get the Audio-Video sync sorted.
BTW-Haven't used an existing files, converted films specifically for TD2 (the ones converted for my XDA Orbit were a bit on the small size due to the screen size.
PS Only use HTC Album to view, WMP doesn't seem to want to play anything I give to it.
I have excellent quality with PocketDivxEncoder to make my movie smaller.
On my TD2/Topaz i use CorePlayer because it's WideScreen.
TCPMP won't run on my phone and WMP doesn't have the codecs.
Ok,so I got one thing-A conversion is a must for higher qualities. But I will not see high qualities/resolution on my TD2,I'll rather choose my 22" HD Dell monitor for that, but I thought I atleast can watch the DVD rips(the popular xvid encoded <=700mb)on my TD2 by Core player or else when I am on the go..haven't had a clear idea about it..anyways thnx for voting.

I'm guessing you are looking for a bit more clear answer, so I will try to give you one. The answer is - YES, you can easily watch DVD rips WITHOUT any conversion, on the go, by Coreplayer of course To me personally, any conversion at all is a misunderstanding. Sure, a phone isnt a PC, but if I pay so much for it, I demand that it can handle unconverted videos. And Topaz really does that very well As an example, I can tell you that I watch a lot of my favourite TV shows and series on the go without any compression, I just download my show (which has a resolution practially the same as DVD) and put it on my SD card. As far as You do not want to watch videos with more than 700x... resolution, you dont even have to convert anything. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my Topaz's video playback capabilities
oh and to be even more clear - all <=700MB xvid encoded movies running superb smoothly, WITHOUT any compression

Just to be clear, the ripped DVD can't just be a standard file, it has to have been converted first, even if that conversion keeps the resolution and size intact, even Coreplayer can't play vob files.
Coreplayer also doesn't support AC3 audio which is a huge limitation and disappointment This means that any video files with DD are no go.
watched the pilot of Caprica. The file was downloaded for PC viewing. was a Xvid encoded .avi file resoloution 624 x 352 and encoded with 23 fps with a data rate of 133 Kbps (It says 133kbps for audio as well, so I assume that is the total ofr both streams).
Played perfectly on Core player
Thank you guys for voting and commenting. I decided to test the topic by myself. And I am so unlucky to say that I got stunned by it. I copied a .xvid encoded .avi music video file(71mb),24fps,640*352 from my Desktop Pc to the TD2,played it with the CorePlayer 1.30(6213) and the result was TERRIBLE. It just didn't play anything at all. The sound was there but the video lagged all the way. So,what to do now? Huh,I decied that's it,as my major priority was watching video without any conversion has failed and failed so badly,so I am selling it. But except all this I liked it.
Thank you guys,bye.
I think 1.3.2 build 6909 is the current release so maybe the version you are using is a bit old. It should play xVid avis no problem at that resolution. You could alos try the free TCMP from which coreplayer was derived. http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/

What was the data rate? My version of Core is older (1.25) and the same res file flew for me. It was a 700MB file for 90 odd minutes of video.
I tried two videos(music),here are the detail:
The First one,(a Taylor Swift video),72mb
The details from my PC- Time-4 mins 37 secs,Resolution 640*352,Audio format-Lame MP3,Audio Bit rate-192kbps and Video Frame rate-23fps/sec, Video Date rate-2099kbps, Video Sample size-24bits, Video compression-FFDS
Now when I tried to play that by Core Player 1.30 on my TD2,it didn't run at all,
Now the details of the Video by Core Player-
Video- AVC aka H.264,Codec-Core AVC and I played it for first 30 seconds and it played 67 frames and Dropped 985 frames, the rate was 1.527
Now the second music video,98.6mb
Resolution-512*384,Runtime-18 mins 57 seconds, Frame rate-23fps/sec,Data rate-710kbps,Video sample size-24bits,Video compression-XVID
Now Core player played this video well, very well infact, the Details by Core player,
Video-MPEG4,Codec-Core ASP,I watched it for first 6 mins and it played 744 frames and dropped 7,Played FPS-23.88
Thanks
I'm guessing that You copied your file to the memory card. If so, did You install SDTuneUp drivers? It looks like they are a must have.
Sir,I don't know what is SD tune up driver and where to install from. BTW-I don't have a memory card on my TD2,it didn't come out of the box and so lazy to buy a seperate one.
hi, I am wondering how the performance is watching football (soccer) highlights from youtube or www.footytube.com , does anyone have any ideas? I have tried this on sony Ericsson w995 and the ball is invisible :s
I know it has been mentioned before but converting using he HTC Touch HD ‘Encoder’ program works well using HTC Album playback on my stock ROM TD2 playing back from the SD Card.
I understand that some of you are resistant to converting files and do not want to go this route but I thought it might help some of those reading this thread that smooth HQ playback from the SD card is absolutely possible without paying any money if you spend the time converting files on a PC (or Mac).

Hey!
Is there a fix to record in .mp4 instead of .3gp for Android ROMS?
Oh god finely someone notice this.... i mean U
been asking for it like 2 weeks.... but no replys ...
I think the image quality is pretty good but the sounds its recording... its like a very cheap phone.....just [email protected]!
ow and the HD function is always a fine extra
Which build do you use? Im using MDJ Froyo with Sense, and i can record 5MP (Camera) and MP4 and HD (Camcorder) out of the box
see my sig..
when i select MP4 and then upload it to my pc ist say's 3GP
u sure u got real MP4 and real HD?
Uhm yes, youre right
I can select MPEG4 and HD, but:
- If i select HD (720p), the Cam-App closes without error message
- If i select "MPEG4" in options, i can find a .3gp in media folder
Ok, thats a problem, then im searching for a fix too!

Say it again
to bad....
the HD recording is not a big deal... WVGA is pretty good... but the sound is...
and the "5MP" is not real 5MP but 1600x1200....
Some developers must continue with improvements to the camera... cause the kernel and ROM itself is pretty stable i have now 2 days of MDJ's Revolution 1.4 and no problems at all just some apps that won't work, just like on other real android ROM's
Audio Problem isnt a .3gp problem...
.3gp is only a video file wrapper, just like mp4, the codec is the same (h264), so a mp4 will have the same bad sound quality
okay then... is there a better sound recording codec?
Or is that asking to much work for the developers?
