Radio update advice please?... - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi guys,... Im quite new around here.
Just wanted some advice regarding radio updates.
In my Settings -> About phone -> Baseband Version
It states: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
I have flashed the Modaco 3.2 ROM, do i need to update the radio aswel?
is 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 the latest one and would it be compatable with my rom?
and lastly, to install it, do I just download it, change the name to 'update.zip' then install it through the recovery thing like i did the custom ROM?
Please help me.
Thank you.
---------------------------
Also,... Can the radio be 'rolled back' should i face any issues?

You can, but don't have to flash a newer radio athough it is allway recommended to have the newest radio installed.
You don't have to a wipe before flashing a new radio.
You do not have to rename the radio.zip to update.zip but can also flash it under its original name.
Be shure to use a newer recovery such as the ones pubished by Amon-RA (newest: RA-hero-v1.6.2) since they allow to do a full wipe which is allways recommended prior to ROM-flashing.

and do not pull the battery during the process, it takes a few minutes and restarts several times.

Thank you both.
So the radio is always done after the new ROM is installed right?
So do it in this order yeah,...
1,... Install the custom recovery (Amon RA)
2,... Do full wipe, (Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Dalvik cache, Wipe SD)
3,... Flash custom ROM
4,... Boot up.
5,... Format SD card on phone.
6,... Re-boot.
7,... Put new radio on SD. Turn off.
8,.. Go into recovery again to install radio.
Is that about right?
Will i be able to roll back the radio if needed?

5 is optional but if done, then best before 3 or even before 2.
roll back the radio: yes you can!

Thank you,... I've just done it,... And my network signal is alot better, i was only getting 2bars, 3 at best, i assumed it was due to me using a rebel sim but now with the updated radio im getting full signal!!
Thank you.

ROM flashing problems with my EVO :(

Ok so I originally rooted my phone and put Fresh ROM on it, there was a little hiccup in the install but I didnt really think much of it, recently when I tried to flash a new ROM (I tried multiple ones just to be sure it wasn't the rom) but whenever I try to flash the ROM (using clockworkmod from recovery mode) it will say the install was successful but when I reboot it will do one of two things: stay on the "HTC EVO 4G" startup screen or continue to turn off and on like its in a bootloop. Does anyone have any ideas whats happening and what I should do? I have tried clearing/wiping all of the options that are available in clockworkmod and even tried using a new SD Card but it still does the same thing

Hi there. First off, I need a little more info, like which rom you are trying to flash right now. Also, what radio's and pri do you currently have?(menu>settings>about phone>software info, radio is baseband) If you have the older radio and PRI, (same as the ones in my sig), and you are flashing to a 3.70 software ROM, which most likely you are, you will need to either flash a custom kernel, while in recovery, just after flashing the rom (before you boot). Or upgrade your radios. If you have already updated your radios, and you're still experiencing this, I would first and foremost, switch to Amon Ra recovery (which version of clockwork are you on, btw?). The easiest way to switch to Amon Ra, is to get Rom Manager from the market. Use rom manager to "flash clockworkmod reocovery" (even though you already have clockwork, do this) Then scroll down, and you'll see "flash alternate recovery". Select that, and let it flash Amon Ra for you. Shut the phone down, and manually boot into recovery (vol down+power). Use amon's recovery to do a full wipe, (data, cache, davlik cache x3) Then flash calkulin's format all.zip. That will ensure a good wipe. Then follow my above mentioned instructions, and try again. That should work. If it doesn't, report what the exact errors are here. Good luck
Maybe this is a stupid question, but are you able to nand restore to a rom where your phone will actually boot up?
Calkulin format all zip is your best bet. It will wipe your system data, data, cache and dalvik cache. A full purge.
Just have a good zip like chris sprint lovers rom. And better yet a PC36100.zip from chris all in one update thread.

Here's a few suggestion:
Change your radio version - Some kernels don't work right with the newest, and some don't work right with older ones.
Change your kernel - This is always the best suggestion IMO. For a sense based ROM run one of netarchy's latest kernels. Often a bootloop is because of a kernel/radio issue.
Plus with netarchy and setcpu you'll get some wicked battery life.
Try wiping everything, and then try again. Also try flashing a different rom
having issues flashing myn rom
have 3.7 evo rooted unrevoked3/kernel 15
when i try to flash from clockwork mod it just blinks right quick but doesn't do anything.. all the things are up to date .. can anyone help?
when i flashed amon ra and flashed rom.. it says E: can't find update script..
i dl rom manager and did the alt recovery to amon ra. it still won't flash the rom.. but now i have another problem.. my sd card clockwork back up is not there... and now i can't restore to previous state. i can't get to the regular phone interface. what can i do to restore?

Links

Can somebody update this list with the actual links to what you saying to download? I would like to give this a try, but not sure where all these links are.
Assuming you are comfortable with the issues and concepts associated with rooting (terms like bootloader, recovery and ROM's), I suggest you do the following:
1. Go to unrevoked.com and root the Incredible; also run unrevoked-forever to secure S-OFF status.
2. Go to dougpiston.com and get the latest CWM for the phone; 3.0.0.7 if it's Amoled display (Hardware version 2) or SLCD (Hardware version 3). (BTW, note that this ROM erroneously reports Amoled Incredibles as the wrong hardware version). Flash that from hboot. Remove the file from the root directory of the SD card afterwards.
3. Download the 7.07 leaked radio; download the ROM; download the updated OTA kernel from a few days ago.
4. Flash away (I would do ROM, kernel, then radio. Remember to flash dalvik/cache before flashing a kernel; and remember that the radio is flashed in hboot.)

Is that what you're looking for?
EDIT: In your Step 4, when you go to Doug Piston's site for the ROM flashing tutorial, after the screen shot to "Wipe Cache Partition", I also do the following:
Mounts and Storage - format /system; format /boot; format /data
Advanced - Wipe Dalvik
Then continue on to the following screen shot on the page, with "Installing zip from SD Card".

Let me look through your links.. I have already done unrevoked and am S-OFF. I had flashed CM7 but when back to stock looking to flash that OTA that was "suppose" to come out. I'm tired of waiting and Nils ROM looks more of what I am looking for then CM7. But there just seems to be a lot more steps. I am not sure what the latest CWM means? Also not positive on which LCD screen I have.

CWM is ClockworkMod Recovery, which is where you go to flash/backup ROMs. You can update it by downloading the zip and putting it onto the root of your SD card, renaming it PB31IMG.zip, booting into the bootloader (phone off, hold volume down and power buttons), and installing it that way.
You can also open ROM Manager to flash a recovery too. Easier that the PB31IMG.zip way, but they both get the same thing done. If you have an SLCD screen and you have the wrong recovery, when you go into recovery the screen will be black with two white lines down the sides, from what I remember.

AH.... .. OK... Don't know why I didn't catch that CWM... I think I have what I need, hopefully tonight after work I can try this out. If I recall I can see what LCD I have by the model number of the phone... I'll google that quick.
Ok so from what I am reading CWM 3x is not required for flashing ROMs on the Inc... I have it installed but it is version 2.x.. Do I have to have version 3x to flash Nil's 3.0 ROM?
It's not, well not necessarily...but for the 2.1/3.0 Sense ROMs ClockworkMod Recovery does need to be at 3.x.
You can go here to download 3.0.0.8, rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card, and with phone powered off hold down volume down + power buttons to get to HBOOT and flash it that way.
There may be a flashable zip for this somewhere to update, but doing this through HBOOT is pretty simple too.

thx.. but can you tell me how I know which screen I have so I do not install the wrong version? From what I am reading there is a version for AMOLED and SLCD??
Forget it.. I see it is for both 3.0.0.8.. thx...!!

The green text of version 2.5.1.2 will change to orange for 3.0.0.8.
Got it.. thx...!! Ok just one more question I think.. In step 3
3. Download the 7.07 leaked radio; download the ROM; download the updated OTA kernel from a few days ago. Link is here.
If I go to your link that is the link for the OTA 7.07 Radio. The ROM I know where to get, but what about the kernel? Does that link install both the radio and the kernel? and then I just need the ROM?

If you're running a GingerSense ROM (NilsP's Ginger Business Sense is), then go here. The thread for this is here. It's a zip file, you flash in CWM like you did the ROM. Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik before flashing a kernel.
If you're running a Froyo 2.2 Sense ROM, you'll need a Sense kernel. An AOSP ROM needs an AOSP kernel. Kernel threads will tell you what version of Android it is compatible with. Flashing an AOSP to Sense won't work, and vice versa. I ran Tiny's Beta5 kernel with NilsP's ROM (here), and it worked great.
The radio link is only for the radio, so it only installs the radio. The kernel link/thread I am linking you to here is for only the GingerSense kernel, compatible with 2.3 GingerSense ROMs.
OK, I think I have it then. I was going to flash Nils •Nils Business GingerSense 3.0 so the link you provided for the kernel should be the one I need right? I have CWM 3.0.0.8 flashed now. I have the correct HBOOT, I also downloaded the OTA Radio, so I think I have everything I need.
One last question if you don't mind... If I use CWM to backup my current system, does it backup, (ROM, radio, and kernel) or if I wanted to go back at anytime would I have to flash the radio and kernel seperate? Have not used CWM to do backup and restore yet.

Yes, that link is the download for the kernel zip file. It'll prompt you to save it somewhere.
A ROM backup backs up the entire ROM and kernel, radio doesn't get backed up as it is completely separate from the ROM/kernel. Don't need to back up the radio. So if you needed to restore a backup, you'd do the wiping of user data and everything like you do before flashing a new ROM. Then when you go to Backup and Restore - Restore, you select your backup, and it brings it back to the point you made the backup (ROM and kernel).
So keep up to date backups, as if you have say a two month old backup that you'd restore, any texts/app info would restore to the point the two month old backup was made. Does that make sense?
Yep... thx for all the info and taking the time...
No problem! Glad to help!
just curious... do you know if the Clock App that is in the stock Android 2.2... Is that still in Nil's ROM? I had tried CM7 and it was not in there. I use that app all the time, so was just curious if it is in there. I like the Time, Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch all in the same App...
I believe it is, since the ROM uses HTC Sense. It also has the HTC Clock widget.

Absolute clean setup of a new rom?

I want to change my present ROM. The best and correct way of doing this is:
Flashing stock WinMo - flashing radio - flashing magldr - flashing recovery - flashing New Rom
Did I miss something? Flashing again HSPL is necessary?
why go thru all that bother? i just factory wipe from cwm and then repartition if necessary and isntall the rom
never had a single issue

Definitely do not recommend doing that. Read about 'bad blocks' (search on XDA) for some more information about this sort of stuff, but if I were you, I would just do a data wipe in CWM, flash a new partition layout if needed then install the zip from SD card. This way you don't end up flashing a billion different things again and again every time you consider changing ROMs (which is quite likely now with the release of ICS and stuff)
If the install as I suggested fails I still wouldn't recommend going back to WinMo. A simple Task29 should suffice.
task 29. thats it. lol
Task 29, I read a lot of contoversial statements about this tool. Ok so wiping data and cache will be just enough as I understood.

There is nothing wrong with running a t29 for a clean install
How I do a clean install:
1. T29
2. Flash radio 2.15
3. Flash MAGLDR
4. Boot into MAGLDR, then Android Recovery
5. Partition/format SDCard
6. Mount USB, transfer .zip to root of SD
7. Wipe data
8. Flash .zip
9. Boot

[help] cy7 gps

I have cyanogen mod 7 installed on my wildfire and kernel nfinity [email protected] #1. I ve seen many people to try the AGPS script to improve signal quality and lock onto more satellites, but havent worked for me. I use gps status but i cant get any satellite even without having install the AGPS fix. Ive seen a post where it suggest of reinstalling the radio, and i thought id post before trying it. Any idea? Thanks
Reflash the radio
You're going to need to flash it with a 2.5 recovery.
Flash this file in the recovery and it will give you a temporary 2.5 recovery that goes away once you reboot.
Try to:
-place the radio zip in sd card(version 3.35.19.25 and 3.35.20.10)
-open(or download if you don't have it,and open) rom manager;
-go to "all clockworkmod recoveries";
-downgrade your recovery to version 2.5.0.7;
-scroll up and reboot into recovery;
-wipe dalvik cache;
-install the previous version (3.35.19.25) of the radio with"install zip from sd card";
-reboot the phone
gps works?
if yes,you can reflash the radio 3.35.20.10 with the same steps, and after install the latest version of recovery with rom manager.
sorry for my english if I made mistakes...
Do you get gps icon in your status bar?
If not then try this:
Flash a sense rom, like RemPuzzle, and start gps, get a fix, DO NOT TURN OFF GPS, wipe everything and flash cm7 again!
This worked for me when i was using cm7.

Dont turning on after install custom rom

Hi, after installing custom firmware (i tried 2 different) my A500 don't turning on. What do I wrong?:
1 downgrading to offical 3.0.1
2.install root
3CWM 1.7 >>1.7.3
4 v8 bootloader (first time didn't do that)
5 download to SD firmware and gapps
6 install firmware and then without rebooting(can this be the problem?) Install gapps
After rebooting device don't turning on only power button lighting. First time downgrade helps, but the second only flash recover((
What do I wrong and how to install custom rom without killing device?
P.s I need only 3g modem support, may be there is the way to install patch on offical firmware?
Sorry for English)

When you install a custom Rom, you have to wipe the original Data first. This is done in the CWM recovery which you installed.
When you boot to CWM Recovery, you have a menu item "Wipes"
In Wipes;
1. Data/Factory Reset (don't worry, it skips your photos and such)
2. Cache
3. Dalvik Cache
Wait, you're not finished.
Go back to the previous menu, and select "Mounts and Storage".
1. Format System
2. Format Flexrom
Now, go back to the previous menu, and select Install Zip from SD (or similar)
Install the Rom.zip you downloaded.
This should get you going. Note that it usually takes about 15 minutes for this process, so make sure you have a charged battery.
Also, just so you know, if you are running a stock rooted rom, there is an app called PPP in the 500 Apps and Themes forum, which allows you to use a USB Modem. So check it out.
