despite the few issues that - Nexus One General

Are with This phone. Do you still think its the best on the market?
I say yes... I have no 3g issue, no dust, and the screen wigging out for me only happens on the wrap around.. coming from a touch pro 2 this phone eats it alive..

yes..perfect screen size speed and everything..BUT that screen issue is really really irritating..not in current functionality but the future of android gaming..and dont tell me to get an xbox or a psp people because i dont want one! iphone games are great enough for me

This phone maybe not near perfect, but is hand down the best right now,and I don't see any other better any time soon.

Even though there are a few bugs to be worked out (namely the screen issue) it still runs light years smoother than any of my 3 previous WM smartphones (6800, TP, TP2).
This is easily the best phone I've owned (outside of the speakerphone) and overall the most enjoyable by far.

I'm not having the 3G or the screen issues...and my replacement is dust free, so knock on wood.

Still has a couple glaring issues, but light years ahead of anything else on the market right now.
Hell, the resale price is higher than the retail price.

i'm happy with it. but looking forward to the HTC SuperSonic.

No going back from Nexus One

Ever since I got the Nexus One, I am unable to pick up much less use MyTouch 3G device. I enjoyed the MT 3G very much rooted with Cyanogen's Mod., but now I have to move on. The Nexus One is light years ahead that the MT 3G. Sadly it is now placed in my gear bag to collect dust with other devices. Anyone else having this experience?
nope, I ebay'd my MT3G for $295
Haha definitely, I have a G1 and mytouch on different lines and everytime I pick them up its just depressing now, gonna go down to 2 lines and give the mytouch to my roommate unless i cant talk her into a nexus one also

Holy crap! You got that much for a MT3G?!
It makes my old G1 feel like a gameboy color or something, no joke that phone was such a great device. I'm still getting used to the software keyboard but this thing is hard to put down.

yes, granted it was in mint condition, as most of my stuff is (i did sell it as used though).
I sold my myTouch 3G the Nexus One is so much better. I don't regret spending $529 now :]
sold my g1 for 200 and got the nexus im not sad at alllll lol
dang you guys are lucky I couldnt get more than $195 for my MyTouch
I picked up my G1 a few minutes ago to test something out...... and it felt so awkward and bulky and fat and slow. I doubt I can go back. I may not be 100% used to only using a vk all the time, but the phone just feels so nice compared to the G1. Just the way it felt in my hand was like damn. I love my Nexus One.

Not saying I didn't love my G1, but after using this beast for a few days it just felt so puny in my hands again.
I attempted to try T-Mo in my area to get this phone. No go for me. I can only wish and hope it goes to Sprint, as I wouldn't piss on a Verizon store if it was on fire.

Why I think the Nexus One will be the best Android phone until the next Nexus phone

My opinion;
Despite all the other HTC Android phones coming the Nexus One will remain on top. The reason why I think this is because having a phone directly from Google itself means you'll get updates before anybody, and popularity from any other 'Droid phone won't beat out a Android phone from Google itself.
So to everyone who has a Nexus One or those people who are scared too get one because another one might make it look obsolete..DON'T WORRY. The Nexus One will remain on top due to the fact that it's from Google itself.
Just my two cents..
I agree with you on that. I just made the leap from the TP2 after running Android on it for a couple of days. I love it. Its awesome.

LOL, I did the same thing. My TP2 is now collecting dust.
So what you're saying is that because this phone is being so heavily backed by Google it will have a very long lifespan?
I think I can agree with that

well so far there is very little (to none) support from google......and Nexus One is the worst cell phone experience i have ever had.
The phone is good, the hardware is good, the OS is ok.......It just feels like everything is in beta or made from cheapo parts.

Well, you know, you should lay off from Google a little. This is there first directly sold phone, and they weren't exactly prepared for all the whining and problems people were going to have. I don't know how they didn't expect for nearly everyone to complain, but apparently they weren't exactly ready to join the phone competition. They haven't had to deal with any problems till now because they have been selling their Android powered phones through carriers..
I honestly don't understand how this phone could have so many aggravations for people though.. like the above poster said, you should also be more specific.
The good thing is that if the 3g connection is good, htc/moterola/exc can't put the blame on Google, Google has to accept the blame, thus forcing them to fix it snappy (hopefully like we've seen with the radio haha)!
coming from touch pro 2 the N1 is amazing
gotta be honest i miss the keyboard but its alright
just the fact that the phone has a 1ghz processor tells me that they are palnning to keep it for a while. ive had an iphone 3g too and so far i still like the n1 the best ...
just one problem so far - the youtube player is stupid and slow... =[
other than that 5 stars

Are people still getting dust under the screen...or has that been fixed.I'm debating if I should get the N1.I had the G1 and loved all the mods you could do to it and the N1 has twice the specs so it's a powerhouse and the only phone out there close to those specs is the HD2.Man I just can't decide, maybe I should wait till all the kinks are worked out.

I don't know if there is a limit. But if there is, then there's even LESS reason to send it in right away, like so many people are doing, and then getting phones with the dust issue once again. Get the phone, enjoy, send it back at 11 months.

I don't really know what I didn't like about it. It felt truly like it wasn't the BEST smartphone experience I could have had. Everything just felt, weird? Slow? Uncoordinated? I don't know. Its a fine piece of machinery no doubt but I don't think I was ready for the inherent clusterfuck Android is.
And in all seriousness I probably will come back to this. But for now...
Its back to the Razr. Most reliable thing in existence.
Rofl, back to the Razr? Most reliable phone in existence? You've got to be F'n kidding me, right?

Well, enjoy I guess. No disrespect intended here, but if you're fine w/ a Razr... Then it obvious you really don't need, nor WANT, a smartphone. That's not meant to be an insult, but rather a simple observation. Smart phones are about everything OTHER than the phone portion in my mind. For me, that's the last thing my N1 does .
Good luck.
That's sad... I sure hope it enjoying your razr, gotta admit its a very reliable phone, I once threw it at someone and left him unconscious. Helped me get out of a potential danger. LOL

I bought the razr when it first came out and it was 600.00 on a contract. I had it two days, dropped it, and it landed on the corner hinge. The area that cracked is so thin that the screen came unattached and all i had was a keypad and speakerphone to make calls on. I had to send it back to motorola because at&t wouldn't insure it, and they lost it. I got it back 3 months later locked, and they wouldn't send me a code so I had to pay for one.
Never buy motorola without a swap plan in place, they lunch too hard on getting things done.

The nexus definitely feels a little unstable in many respects. But with its hardware and being presumably on the top of Google's mobile priorit list, this phone has more potential than any other phone out there. Its almost as smooth as the iPhone with the potential to put the iPhone to shame. Just gotta be patient and let google iron out the software. This baby's still a baby!

Their phones really are quite ugly, though, if we're talking about design rather than build quality (which the dust issue qualifies as).

Just got a Evo 4G and I feel screwed

I gotta say after playing with the Evo I feel screwed over by htc on my nexus one. They went all out on the evo 4g and gave the nexus one spotty 3g, crap touch screen, messed up buttons, manufacturing defects, alignment issues and not even close to the quality and attention to detail as the evo. All the buttons are in the right places and the look and feel is spot on. Does anyone else think they did this for a reason? Maybe show Google not to step on there toes?
Did you seriously just make this post?
not to mention there already is a post of this going.
I believe the dedicated buttons work great after the update is that the main thing the evo has over the nexus other than 3g? I do feel a little ripped off regarding the old touchscreen but thats all, I've never had the 3g issue and with flash, tethering and the rest of froyo improvements I'm falling in love with android all over again. Incidentally how is the evo Screen size? Having the nexus I don't think a bigger screen would be comfortable to carry. The nexus seems the perfect sizesize, but I have a feeling you're going to tell me the evo screen size is the best ever...
The phones were made at different points, so obviously there's improvement to be made. You could cry foul if they came out at the same time.
Everyone is entitled to their respective opinions.
With that being said, this thread will slowly turn into a heated debate about why each phone is 'better', equal or whatever, despite the obvious attempt to cause this.
are you joking me

Thank you for the link. I haven't read that thread and didn't know it was related to my post. After reading a few pages I can see what you are talking about.
Different and newer hardware and HTC Sense is a pretty spot-on UI experience for the most part.
It's almost like comparing apples to oranges honestly. I look more at the network I plan on using first. Personally a GSM network is preferred because of simultaneous mobile web and calls.
EVO 4G is a beast though, definitely a nice piece of hardware. But I am definitely happy with my N1.
Though I'd be happier if I got me some final release version of FroYo on it.

That's a bogus argument. HTC (as well as every other manufacturer) has been making good quality hardware for awhile. He's not complaining about features, he's complaining about quality. Issues with 3G reception, touchscreen buttons, touchscreen digitizer are quality and testing related and are not acceptable on ANY phone at this point in time regardless of other features or pricetag. I'm not saying the Nexus One has these issues (it seems like many due experience them) but Im just saying these are trivial things that should work flawlessly.

I will say that some of these issues have been "fixed," so to speak, by HTC sense.
As for the touchscreen issue, I am pretty sure this a hardware issue in that the EVO 4G simply has a better touchscreen. I could be wrong on that though.

The nexus one touch sensor is crap. Cant handle two inputs. The Evo 4g is unlimited. The games are going to be sick. HTC had access to Synaptics ClearPad 3000+ and the new screen in the evo 4g but they used a old clearpad 2000. WHY?
New touch sensor on the Evo 4G.

Surely that will change, but as of now, for gaming, it doesn't matter much.

Yes the graphics need work but they just got opengl es 2.0. I think the next round of games should be better. The problem with n1 and games is when you play fps or race games that use two input points. The nexus one will go crazy and make it unplayable. The same games on the Evo 4G play fine. Thats the first thing I tested.

has anyone from from an iphone to this?

IF so, thoughts?
I came from an iPhone 3g thats JB and unlocked. I love my iPhone BUT got really tired of only having EDGE and I hate crapple and got tired of supporting um. Ill be honest here...This phone is nothing like my iPhone infact the more I use it the harder it is for me to compare the two. This phone is way faster than my 3g ever was or could be, it runs multiple apps at once and by multiple I mean I can have 15 diff things running in background and still have 230+ of memory availiable! Its obviously lacking with the amount of apps availiable but thats all changing as Android is releasing more and more apps everyday not to mention after u sift thru all of the apps on the appstore you realize over half of them are ridiculously dumb. The games etc are not as good as the iphone cause of the screen resolution but once you get over all that I think you will see, as I did, that this phone is just as good and you will really love it. Hope my opinion helps ya.

Funny you say that... that's what i just did... i had an hd2 for about 2 months... saw the port for android... had it running... and got too impatient, and traded it for a mt3g slide....
best decision i've ever made... the screen on the hd2 is nice, but WM is garbage... also the mt3g slide's screen is pretty much the same size of the iphone, which i've used and loved... and the speed of the mt3g slide honestly feels like the snapdragon processor...
i purchased it, reset it, and downloaded a task killer, while i was messing around with it, it was very snappy and fast at loading EVERYTHING, then i used the task killer, and saw that it had just ended 30 FREAKING APPS!
So while i was playing with the phone, 30 apps running in the background, and was still fast as hell...
and the physical keyboard??? and touch keyboard?? This phone is wonderful... you won't regret it... trust me
Exactly! I had the HD2 for like two weeks and was totally disapointed windows mobile hasnt hardly changed at all and I hadnt had a WM phone in years I really wanted that phone to be more than what it is. Anyway, get a slide...its NOT an iphone BUT you will learn to like it just as much if not more esp after you see how much faster 3g is than Edge.

I came from an original iPhone. Honestly, if T-Mo could get 3G on an iPhone, I would have got another one, but EDGE is just too damn slow. The iPhone is very smooth in my opinion. Not really a fanboy, but it was just so easy to use. Jailbreaking/Unlocking by restoring FW was cake. All this talk about rooting/flashing etc. for Android can be time consuming and confusing.
I came from iPhone 3G on AT&T with 3G coverage. In my area (South Jersey) AT&T has MUCH better coverage than T-Mobile (I have 3G @ home but I only get 30kbps downloads at best; was getting 300-800k on AT&T).
I have to say, I am completely in love with the MtTouch 3G Slide. I miss FarmStory from TeamLava but at least I have all my Storm8 games and was able to port the account over.
I love having Widgets on my homescreens and multitasking is a definate plus. And I don't have to pay for a 3rd party app to record video .
My iPhone was jailbroke but not unlocked as I didn't need it. I have yet to root my phone but have plans to once we get stable FroYo.
But that's just my $0.02

This is freakishly crazy, I also had an iphone 3G on Tmobile and I loved the phone but couldn't stand edge any longer! I went out and purchased the slide because the specs are really good and it could actually multitask! I ported over my storm 8 games and I am currently using a beta version of palringo and I am missing my 3G less and less! My only gripe with android is moreso with the developers because the apps that they made for apple usually have more functionality than the android version. If the developers actually made the same products for android as they did for apple, me people would gladly make the switch!

Thanks
Drew
It took me two days of reading, then I watched the video about 6 times, then I just did it and the actual process only took about 30 min. I have my electronic eng. Degree believe it or not but had NO clue how to use adb or anything else that had to do with Android so I guess u could say I am a newbie...maybe I just got lucky cause it worked my first try!
