Sign in issue on HTC 2.1 - Hero CDMA General

Every boot, on a HTC Build of 2.1, it requires your password for google and complains "Sign in error for [email protected]"
Is there a known fix for this? I looked it up and found there's supposed to be a message waiting or voicemail, but I don't have any.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't ran into that issue once with my legend rom

Bik, one way I figured out around it isn't really a fix, more of a "making your own luck" way:
Wipe completely, flash the 2.1 ROM of your choice, then wipe again. Set up your device with your gmail account, then set it up in your Mail app as well. Reboot. If you get the log-in issue, shut down, wipe again, and retry. I was lucky and got it on either my first or second wipe.

I tried it several times, no luck.

Usually signing into HTC's mail app with your Gmail it should fix the issue.

I have this all the time as well, but seems like it goes away for a few hours. I haven't looked into it though. I did however create a mail account just to see, and i still have to log on almost every reboot.

Guys,
I did this and it worked for a little while. Others have had more permanent success. Different ROM, I know, but what the heck right? Not that much info on this out there....
None of the other fixes have worked for me so far including adding gmail to the htc mail app. I'd REALLY like to get to the bottom of this.
Does anyone know how to start/stop "D/SyncManager" and how to get more log info than what logcat offers?

Trying to figure this out too i get forced to sign in to gmail every reboot. going thru ddms and i noticed this, blanked out numbers - current is IMSI, stored is a phone number in my area code thats not my number? Could this be why gmail auth breaks?
03-14 04:17:42.556: WARN/AccountManagerService(132): wiping all passwords and authtokens because IMSI changed (stored=xxxxxxxxxx, current=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

I haven't had to sign back in to DamageControl 1.0 since a day after I got everything set up. I had to sign back in every reboot the first day, and the morning of the second day, had an email waiting, and had to sign in. After that, I haven't had to sign in, even with emails and messages waiting for me...weird

IMSI must be a holdover from the base GSM build as CDMA doesn't use it - that is. CDMA uses something else called MSID which is used for the same purpose but has slightly different value ranges. So its possible the label "IMSI" remains but the data is actually the MSID. MSID's generally look like telephone numbers, IMSI's generally do not as they might start 1010, etc.
But in either case you don't want to fool with the IMSI/MSID as it may stop your handset from reaching the right place and authenticating correctly on the network, which then might lead to loss of all services.

My email account has disappeared, please help

For some reason my googlemail account has disappeared from my phone. I have a notification I have mail, and when I go into mail from the home screen tab the new mail is displayed, but when I press it nothing happens, it won't go to inbox.
If I go into mail via the start up menu my googlemail account isn't there. All I have listed is hotmail, and add new account. If I try to add my googlemail it won't allow me saying I have already set up an account with that name. Where's it gone and how do I get it back?
Ok, I've fixed it by restoring my phone. It would be nice to know what happened though???
Yes, this happens on occasions.
I think the way I fixed it last time was to go >menu>account settings> where you should see the "lost" gmail account. If you then select it and walk through the setup again for that account it sorts itself out.
I'm 90% confident this is how I fixed mine but it was a while back so memory is a bit dim.

Thanks. I went through the setup and that's when it told me I already had an account with that name and couldn't go any further.
I had a new problem this morning. I had all my email accounts there, but when I clicked on them nothing happened, ie I couldn't go to the inbox. A soft reset fixed it, but why am I getting so many glitches?

I am having the same sort of problem. My e-mail accounts have disappeared after a soft reset. This is the second time it has happened. Out of interest, what are you running on your device? I would like to see if there is a common theme beyond it being a problem with HTC's software.

Not a lot, a few registry tweaks, SPB BAckup, memmaid, resco registry editor, phm regedit.
I got my email settings borked a couple of times now, and I run a standard ROM with very little third party software, and certainly nothing tweaky or email related.
Not sure what triggers it, TBH.

These are precisely the same symptoms as my device is suffering. Hell, I could buy a Caithness paper weight for less money and it would do roughly the same job (possibly better).
My phone is also having the same symptoms - loosing email and network settings randomly. Any cause or solution as yet?
My phone loses it's email settings when I pull the battery. They are still there but the pop and smtp settings disappear so they won't work anymore. Also my router security code is gone too. If I reset with the red button there there is no problem.
I was having this problem maybe one a week but since i upgraded to one of the latest custom Roms it hasn't happened since... Must be because of the very latest version of Windows they are using, M$ must of sorted a bug or two..

Gmail wont sync after root?

So I successfully rooted my phone, removed abunch of bloatware, like verizonbackup, friendstream, tweeter, flickr, and a few others. but now my gmail wont sync automatically, i have to manually refresh my inbox, it doesnt seem to be "pushing" new messages to me and its getting very annoying. Is anyone else having this problem?
I think we will start seeing more and more of these issues as people root the phone and/or remove apps that they think are "bloatware".
Did you try removing and re-adding your gmail account?
I just completed rooting my phone this morning, but only removed City ID. My gmail is working normally, including giving me new mail notifications as soon as emails come in. Maybe you deleted something you shouldn't have deleted.
As an aside, why did people hate City ID so much? I deleted it because everyone else was, and because I wasn't using it, but not really sure what it does.

If you removed the verizon backup assistant you have to do a factory reset, meaning wipe all your data, this could be your issue. I seen somewhere else saying you have to do a factory reset once you remove that.

It nags every 15 days and wants $2.99 a month fee. It is useless since all it does it tell you what the city and state is associated with the caller's area code and exchange. Most everyone knows the local area code and exchanges. if it was a one time $2.99 maybe, but $2.99 a month they are crazy.

Oh, you will I think the cost is outrageous too, especially since all the program is doing is checking the XXX-YYY-0000 against a data base, where X is state and Y is town.
As for the OP, just go into Applications menu and clear your Gmail and Gmail Storage cache. We used to have a similar problem way back in the dark ages of 2008 G1, when rooted owners would immediately uninstall the Fave 5 application Tmo so kindly put on there, which would immediately erase all Cloud contacts AND break sync
I performed a factory reset after removing everything I didnt want, but I think I read in another post that it might have something to do with friendstream.apk, does anyone happen to have this and can host it somewhere? I'll try removing and readding the email account.

Same here.....looking for the friendstream.apk. On a side note, don't install the friendstream.apk for the evo, as it put me in a nasty reboot loop.
I too am having this issue, but it is only happening to one of my two gmail accounts, one pushes fine but the secondary account I have to manually refresh to get my email. I haven't removed any bloatware from my phone.
Count me in... Neither HTC Mail nor gmail are auto syncing on their own. If I turn OFF then back ON the auto sync (via the power widget) they sync, but any futher emails are not working.
This is on the leaked 2.2 for me

[SOLVED] HTC Peep credentials error

Hi everyone,
When I try to login on htc peep with my twitter credentials, I get an error telling me that I'm entering the wrong username or password. The problem is that these credentials are correct, as I can login using them on my desktop.
Anyone have a solution to my problem?
Tried:
- Removing twitter tab and re-adding it.
- Cleared peep cache
- Soft reset
Solution:
1) Go to the twitter website, change your password.
2) Try to login using peep, it should fail.
3) Go to the twitter website, change your password back to the original.
4) Try to login using peep, it should work now.

It is likely that your speling correction is active, changing the first letter of the password to CAPITAL one.
do short try:
input the password as always, then delete the first letter and re-input it.
Or, change your pass to have the first letter as capital
Have you any "strange" character on your nickname and/or password?; like an ñ; ç, etc.. Perhaps HTC Peed don't recognize that character...
I'm starting to be out of ideas.

I went to twitter.com, changed my password.
Then tried to login with peep, login failed as usual.
Went back to twitter.com, changed it back to original.
Then tried to login with peep again and now it works again.
Really weird if you ask me ...
Hello,
I got the same issue and no way to solve it. I tried your process but with no luck...
Still searching!
Check your TIME, DATE and TIMEZONE!
After a flash, this usually goes haywire. The timestamp between the Twitter server and your HTC device doesn't match up which is usually why this happens.
Try this out. This is the only thing that kept me from logging into Twitter with HTC Peep.
try logging out of your twitter account on your computer first then trying on the phone.
Hi Guys,
After a fresh flashing (including the last twitter security update) I'm not able to login into twitter and I get the same error message:
Login Error. You have entered an incorrect username or password.
I used this ROM before without problems, so I guess it is not ROM related.
Is HTC Peep starting to have problems again?
Brgds
It's not Peep or ROM related. Twitter itself messed up something and NO ONE can use twitter anymore ;/.
I'm unable to login with tweet 'till today. Wrong username or password. Nothing listed helped.
See this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14506286 (and my message a few days ago). Still a bug in HTC peep.
I switched to Motweets today. Looks ok,
MoTweets is the way
I also had the same problem. I even contacted HTC. They asked me to send my phone to service as if they can solve it. They were not able to solve it. Finally I am using an application called MoTweets. I downloaded it from windows market place. After using it for a while I should say it is a lot better than HTC Peep. Try it
Yeah, I know MoTweets. Thats what I'm using right now anyway. But still missing Peep for its integration on homescreen (I'm kinda person "I have 4 seconds of free time, lets check twitter").

Evo Tip for New Users - Only one chance at google account

Ok,
Just going to through this up in a thread of its own. If this info needs to be added to a newbie's thread fine, but I have not seen one.
This is a lesson learned with the Evo that as a NEW android user I was completely unaware of:
--You MUST have a GMail account. An old Google account will not work.
--You only get ONE CHANCE at entering the correct account for your phone set up.
It seems that while other android phones have tricks to work around changing accounts...the Evo does NOT. You must do the factory reset from...Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
YES you will lose all the screen customizations you made, all the emails you have set up, all the settings you wanted.
NO you do not lose data as all my test pictures are still there.
The GMail account must be set up BEFORE you try to add it to the phone. (This seems to be the gist of lots of stuff on internet and this is way I did it. Set it up through my old Google account before adding to the phone during the set up process.)
There you go. Very important and frustrating tip for those of us that are new to android and especially to the Evo.
....
are you sure?
you can't just got Accounts and Sync and change it there?
I can't imagine why not
You can't go to menu>settings>accounts and sync>google and remove your Google account?
if your rooted you can easily change google accounts
i found this goodie back in the hero days messing around with accounts.db
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/accounts.db "delete from accounts where type = 'com.google';"

No, you cannot just go Accounts and Sync...tried it. When you go into the google account you have a button below that says...'Remove Account'. When you try you get two pop-ups. First says you will lose account information. Second says you must do the factory reset.
So...anyone else want to call me a troll before they actually TRY what they are suggesting? 'Cause I tried three different approaches I found when searching. None worked.

Then you aren't being entirely clear on what your point is. I have no idea what you are talking about given that I know for a fact that:
A> I am usually drunk when I try roms, which usually require a full wipe and account info on 1st boot...which I usually screw up.
and most importantly,
B> That the day I got my phone I forgot my password for a good 5 minutes at radio shack and tried wrong passwords repeatedly until I got it right.
Not to mention
C> I have changed gmail accounts multiple times, even in those brief hours while I was still 100% stock.
...and I have no idea what a "google account" is otherwise. It very may well be 'a thing', but I have no idea what it is.
If I managed to evade your point, please--for the sake of the forum and your own well being--articulate it a little better.

Your Google account is basically your Gmail account. All though I do believe it is a seperat account. It also allows you to link youtube, latitude and a few other Google tools or services.
Hmmm, Home screen, menu, settings, applications, gmail and or market, then clear data, and or clear cache ... worked for me... then I had to re-enter my password and user name, ill be damned if i didn't screw it up. Not even drunk, course i didn't forget it for 10 minutes, just about 30 seconds.

That's what I assumed, but, you never know. Google is a little to smart to go for anything less than a unified ID. Having a handful of disparate and overlapping accounts (and their associated 'sign up process') seems like an annoying waste of time, storage and bandwidth.
Btw, I'm not trying to be a ****. If you are in fact having these issues it may be an isolated incident.
I had the same issue as the original poster. I believe what is being said is that the "google" account you enter the very first time, is the one used for your identity on the phone, and to change it requires a factory reset on the Evo.
Personally I have 3 google accounts, one is gmail and the other two are google apps. All of my contacts are under a google apps account.
Well, turns out, if you enter your gmail account not knowing the difference when you originally setup the phone, it stays stuck in there and won't let you change it without doing a full factory reset. I realized I needed to use my google apps account instead and had to factory reset to change it.
This is of course before I attempted any rooting fun, I had just came from WinMo on a Touch Diamond previously and hadn't read up on how any of that worked at the time.
Hope this helps clarify things.

Well, condiering I've had my gmail account for over 3 years and used it to set my evo up with, it's not new - it was 3 years ago but it sure wasn't new when I got my evo. Therefore, an old gmail/google account works just fine.
And, I just added me other gmail account without any problems. Gave me the options to sync mail, contacts, ect., too.
I think were missing your point here...or something.

I know what you mean, in a way. I guess it just depends on the person and the what your needs are. iGoogle for instance, you can set up your own home page, you can add all kinds of different widgets like latitude, translate, local search, wiki, tv guide. You can be updated when concerts and such are appear in your town. I love latitude, I just link it to my phone, if anyone ever stole my phone I could just go to my google page on my pc and id automatically know the location and I'm pretty sure theres a free service for this same thing that adds the ability to send messages, not texts, to the phone and wipe it if you want. Pretty dang useful if you ask me. I love it, I just open mozilla and everything is there, mail, rss feeds and news, weather everything

Something very weird happened with my screen...

So I was looking at gmail, I backed out of a message back to the conversation list when I got a pop up stating that there was trouble authenticating worth gmail and a captcha (the graphic word human tester, I think that is what you call it) box popped up. I entered the text, it failed, repeat, then on the next failure notice, the screen got static-y, and continued to get more and more static-y... White had dots of color throughout _ it looked like old uhf that was barely coming in.
Anyway, the screen became unresponsive and a reboot cleared it up, but I am very curious as to what happened and if out is likely to happen again.

I then noticed that whatever it was had tried to send like 20 some spam emails to everyone in my gmail contacts which google blocked! The only odd ip I could find was somewhere in the UK? Bloody hell I say!

Have any of you recently flashed anything, or installed any new programs? If we can find some common thread, it might make it easier to figure out what's causing it.

Yeah, whatever it is it keeps hasseling for email confirmation. The weird thing is you can by pass it and still access all of googles apps. But the second you punch in the password and captcha...it catches ya. Only thing I've downloaded in the past week was Gun Bros.

I'll probably catch a barrage of comments for this...but I am 100% sure someone has created a virus on android...long story but I fell victim to the exact same thing the other day. Next thing I know my gmail was hacked.
edit: it kept asking me to re-enter my password. I rebooted and it was fine, I could even click ignore and view my gmail account. I got tired of it constantly popping up and did what you did...next thing I know...reboot and colors.

Don't know why it sounds so crazy to people, if you research even just lightly, you'll see that there IS Droid malware out already. It is like anything else that gets exploited.

Yeah...but for some bizarre reason, people think it's impossible to get viruses on linux based kernel type systems....wrong.

VERY wrong, and I think it is because most people do not have any experience with Linux. The average user is Windows or Mac, and only know that Linux is just another Operating System. If someone were to sit down and actually take the time and effort, they could do some very scary things to/with someone's Droid.

I don't remember exactly what I had downloaded, but I do know that I kept changing my pass and within a couple of minutes I would have to change it again, so I changed my pass via laptop and master reset my phone and so far so good!

I have not installed anything new - and I just moved to EB01 VooDoo from EB01 this weekend, starting nice and fresh with EB01 odined into place, wipe for kicks, VooDoo install via CWM, and restore of all my apps... so nothing new app wise, and nothing unusual otherwise.
I also run Lookout and although I am not certain just HOW trusted it is, Lookout says everything is OK. It certainly scans every new and restored app as they install... but again, I do not know just how trustworthy is really is.
And that was the first time and so far only time that weirdness has occurred... For you other guys who haveseen it, did it come and go, all in a burst, or just once?
No problems since...
I have seen this on my fascinate as well. It is not malware by any means. From what I have read in the past on this is it has to deal with an account sync issue. I have been getting these popups when I flash the 2.2 roms. When I had the popups if I go into the accounts and uncheck the sync and then recheck them to have to then resync I do not seem to get them anymore.
