Hello there,
I am currently trying to backup the data on my HD2 using the Microsoft My Phone system but every time I try, it just gets stuck on Authenticating user and goes no further. Any help??
Thanks
I have been experiencing this problem when restoring the data the last few days and even tried different ROM's .
I finally got through when i unchecked everything in Sync option and left only Contacts check marked. It successfully sync'ed and then i check marked few others(Fav &txt) in sync option and sync'ed again.
What i can conclude is that, if there's lots of stuff to sync, it chokes up and gets stuck. Try sync'ing each option individually...see if that helps!
How do you connect? Use wlan and it should be kinda fast.
What did you check in the sync options?
Default is that every data on your mobile gets synced like videos, photos, ...
I only checked calendar and contacts and the whole sync lasts 10-20 seconds.
Hmmm working for me as of 5 minutes ago, but hadn't been last few hours.
Either they fixed something on MS's end, or having an incorrect date can screw with syncing (I'd jsut reflashed and forgot ot set my date correctly - it was set to Jan 21st). After setting the date correctly it now syncs as normal.

Yeah, I tried syncing just the contacts but the same thing happened!! This is the first time I have used Microsoft My Phone so maybe it's that?? I also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the application but to no avail!
Hi,
I had the same problem after myphone updated itself to the newest version. My solution that worked was manually downloading the touchscreen version at http://mobile.microsoft.com/myphone.
Then I only synced my text messages.
Afterwards the entire phone.
good luck
Hey,
I have had my Evo for a week or so now, and LOVE IT. For some reason it all the sudden has quit syncing my Gmail Emails. If I manually open my Gmail account, and click Refresh under Menu, it will download the new emails. Other than this, its not syncing them.
I have double checked under the Sync Settings in the Settings area, and they are all set to sync.
What have I done, or not done to make this happen?
Thanks,
Bryan

Mine started doing the same thing today. Have you rooted/flashed a new Rom? I am rooted and running Fresh .3.
Stock rom, but I have run Unrevoked Root program. Thats all I have other than the stock rom, and a ton of programs.

I noticed this today as well. I thought it was just me! It seems to happen regardless of whether I'm on 3G or Wi-Fi. I'm running stock 2.1; no root. It worked perfectly from day one, and I only noticed it today. For some reason, I don't think the phone is syncing with the Google... or GMail isn't pushing it out to the Evo.
Yeah, same here. Tried playing with various settings - was syncing this morning, then quit around 10:30-ish. I'm assuming it's something on the backend and not a problem with the phones.
Yea, I am thinking the same thing, something with the Gmail Servers, if I am not the only one having the problem.
Figured it might have been something that I had installed, but I guess not.
Maybe a google techy will figure it out for us.

yep, same here. not worried about it, it'll be back
I'm glad we got this thread started. I was beginning to think I was going crazy, or my phone was at least. The last thing we need is another "problem" occurring with our phones.
Is it ok that knowing you all have the same problem makes me feel better? haha
I also noticed that my Google Account (Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync>Google) hasn't updated in a few hours since giving it time to "work itself out." I know that if I update it manually, it'll push the Gmail through, but I don't understand why the Google sync would just stop updating on its own.
Just giving an update.
Didn't seem to get Gmail to sync today. I don't know whether this problem is isolated to a select few of us but I wanted to fix this and just resorted to resetting Gmail. I followed the instructions here, and it's been working as it should for the past few hours... I hope it lasts...
Directions: (Edit, I'm unable to post links so here are the instructions)...
Troubleshooting: Problems with sync
On Android devices, the Gmail application is automatically synced with the Gmail server, and vice versa. If you experience problems with syncing, try clearing your device's Gmail application data and doing a fresh sync with the server.
Just follow these steps:
1. Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Applications, then Manage applications.
4. Select Gmail Storage.
Note: If you don't see 'Gmail Storage,' press < Menu > again, then select Filter > All.
5. Select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
6. Return to the list of applications by pressing the < Back > button on your device.
7. Select Gmail and then select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
To restart your device, press and hold the < Power > or < End call > button, then select Power off. Press the < Power > or < End call > button to power on.
Your device will re-sync with the server after restarting (this may take several minutes).
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, check to see if you have any account notifications on your device.
Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >. Select Notifications. If you have any system notifications about a sign-in or password error, you should make sure your account information is correct in order for Gmail to sync.

I did the same thing and mine started working fine last night also.
Still working today.

Had the same problem. I had two Gmail accounts syncing. I tried the fix above but it did not work. I removed the 2nd Gmail and did it again and then it worked. Not sure why. Wanted to post this if anyone had the problem that was not being fixed to try deleting multiple Gmail accounts.
Google Not Pushing to HTC EVO
Hey guys,
I wanted to state the fact that I am having the same problems and thought that I would get it out there.
I originally had 11 email accounts syncing with my device, and all were flawlessly pushing the mail to me as it came thought Google's servers. I have noticed that over the past few days that I have had to do this syncing manually by going into the app and pressing refresh.
I am deleting all my email accounts except the main two and forwarding all the others to the main email account.
Here is the kicker... I also have Google Voice and it has stopped syncing the text messages to me as well. I just now received a text from my sister that she sent yesterday. (Just arrived as I am typing this and it is timestamped for yesterday.)
I am testing this out to see if deleting 9 email accounts, deleting the Gmail storage through the application settings menu, and rebooting my device will help.
I do also want to add: I am utilizing the Task Killer application. I have enabled in the settings the option of viewing all of the background tasks. I have ignored everything that says Google on it, Gmail, or has the words sync in it. (Before it was killing all the apps and background tasks things.) I am on the Stock 2.1 rom and I am not rooted with my HTC EVO.
I am going to see if this works - and if it doesn't you will hear back from me.
Good luck to the rest of you guys out there experiencing the same problems with your Sprint EVO. (I still love the device and hope this is a minor bug...)
Update: Right now everything is working correctly... We will see tomorrow. Good luck guys and gals.

i started having gmail sync issues this morning. around the same time i turned off calendar sync to see how much it improved battery life.
although the box is still checked to sync, i've had to manually sync gmail all day.
i guess the next step is to re-enable calendar sync and see if that fixes it.
I've had problems with gmail auto syncing as well. This is what I've found gets things back in order..
clearing data for the gmail apps, I also clear data for the other google apps just to be safe.
Then I go into gmail and set settings>labels>inbox to "sync all"
I also learned that shutting down gtalk also breaks gmail auto sync, not signing out, stopping the app. I had sartup auditor set to prevent gtalk from starting on boot, when I let it start up on boot my gmail sync's just fine.

You are not alone. I have a friend with a BlackBerry storm from ATT which stopped syncing about the same time. It could be a problem at their end.
Still syncing today!

Mine stopped syncing yesterday around 2p mountain time, reset the phone, pulled the battery several times nothing helped. Set up a new gmail acct through the phone, that worked fine, but my original just would not sync. So I pull the battery, and pulled the sd card. Then I put it all back together and it started working. I dont know if it was coincidence or not. But yall might want to try pulling the SD card before going through a reset.
Hi guys
I have a HD2 with the Stock ROM 1.66, all working fine until recently, where both my Gmail accounts are blank, every folder is empty, Send/Receive runs, Connecting > Logging on > looking for Changes > Updating Folders > Disconnecting.
No email is downloaded, Ive tried removing accounts and re-adding, checking the deletion and day threshold settings, and its still not download any at all.
The only thing ive done recently is installed SPB keyboard which ive removed, and the Excalibur Android Loader app, which is also now removed. I also changed a registry setting under HTC Album to ignore the .thumbnails folder, but nothing else.
Help!!
My Outlook sync probably works fine, but because i dont have a valid SSL cert on exchange yet, i cant test with that.
Thanks
Does your email account work fine via webmail?
works fine via webmail.
Okay ive found the problem after hours of investigation, the date was set to 2011 for some reason, so it was connecting and seeing no emails for that date!!!
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. It checks email and comes back with the current time as the refresh time, but doesn't show any new emails. I have found a trick that if I go into the settings for that mail account and just click through them without changing anything, it will receive the current mail. Unfortunately I have to do that every time I want mail from that IMAP email. The unfortunate side effect is that it also resets default settings for emial size and frequency.
Where was the date field that you are talking about above?
I just went to my phone's date/time setting and it was set to automatic from server. I toggled it to manual and back to automatic. Now it's receiving emails again. That may have fixed it. I'm a little skeptical as I have done little things here and there which will may it update and retrieve email once, but it never seems to work on its own without my tinkering with it. We'll see. If it is still working tomorrow, I'll report back here to let everyone know.
So I tried it again this morning and it isn't working again. So that wasn't it. Also, one correction to my last post ... my IMAP isn't empty it just won't receive new mail. I hit refresh and the sync symbol spins and then shows the current time as if refreshed but no new email pop in. It also does this so fast that it cannot possibly be logging in and checking before it returns with no mail. Still frustrated. Let me know if anyone figures this out.
PS - as additional info, I own my own domain and email hosting through Rackspace. Since my wife has the same setup (Domain and sakes rackspace account) I added her email to my phone and it works fine (tried over several days). So now I'm really baffled.
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Ok, I have spent countless hours researching and troubleshooting this and I think I have the solution. Apparently, Android's native email software has difficulty with certain things, "Flagged" emails being one of them. I.E. those emails you flag different colors to follow up on later.
I have tried everything I could find on the issue and this seems to be what worked for me.
Background (Just in case this helps you):
Phone: T-Mobile HTC HD2 running Android 2.2 NAND
Issue: Email worked fine on multiple accounts for over a year on this phone, then one day one of my personal IMAP account stopped receiving emails. Gmail and my Exchange accounts still worked fine. However, my IMAP account would say it is "Syncing/Refreshing Messages" and come back with the current time stamp, but would not pull in any of the new messages. My only work around until now was to run through the email account setup for Incoming mail server, Outgoing (SMTP) mail server, etc. Then it would work, but only once. If I wanted my new mail again, I would have to repeat that process. About a day or so before I began having issues, I had flagged several emails for future follow-up. I read a post that mentioned that in passing so I tried it. I went into Outlook and unfledged all the emails I had flagged.
Solution: Un-flag all emails in your INBOX. Then wait 4-12 hours.
NOTE! At first it didn't work, but after a few hours I started getting my emails and have been getting everything fine since (last 48hours). I guess it takes time to propagate in the system or something.
I hope this helps!
Hi there.
I have an X10a from Rogers, 2.1(official upgrade), rooted and ever since running the 2.1 update my email notification has been inconsistant at best. With the stock email program it worked sporadically. Sometimes it doesn't even sync... I open the app, load new messages and they appear. Sometimes it makes a sound and puts the indicator in the status bar but no flashing led and sometimes everything works.
I tried K9 and that seemed to work but no led, so I loaded Maildroid and everything was fine for a while but now even that is sporadic.
I currently have my stock email notifications disabled, gmail sync enabled, maildroid sync enabled, wake up ever 15 mins in sleep to check email and still it only works sometimes.
I would prefer just using the stock email client as it seemed nicer on battery useage. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it easily? I almost tried it with Titanium backup but the warning that i might need to reflash scared me off doing it.
Any thoughts?
Same thing i noticed with mine , Email is really bad after the update , can know for sure when i get a new Email
using the gmail app and no problems at all
i have 3 other email accounts all forwarded to my gmail
This is two forums and no one has been able to suggest anything to fix it. I think i'll just go back to the stock email client and live with it... checking manually whenever I remember.
This would be my one major complaint about the 2.1 upgrade...aside from it I'm pleased with the rest.
I use shangmail.it works great.

I can try it. Does it light up the LED with the notification?
Re: my issue, i've noticed that it definitely seems that it's the syncing that's not happening moreso than the notification. I can send an email and until I open my client and load more messages, it won't appear where in the past it would pull down the email, notify me and then when I checked it was already there.
Okay...so I reflashed 2.1 on the phone last night. Immediately after the flash everthing was working fine. Then I rooted, installed Titanium backup and started to restore my apps and data... one at a time instead of the batch. At some point it stopped working again even though I didn't install 100% of the things I had on before.
Then briefly I uninstalled Super Security Standard and it started working again...but that didn't last.
I suppose it must be something i've installed, but it's really frustrating that the behavior isn't consistant. Aside from reflashing and then testing after restoring each app, I don't know what I can do.
It's definitely a syncing issue, not a notification issue. Installed a couple of free gmail notifiers and they don't work because the emails aren't sync'd until i go into the email client and manually load new mail.
What could be blocking the gmail sync?
Okay..some more searching has revealed a workaround. I cleared the cache for Gmail app and Gmail storage, rebooted and added the power control widget and cycled the sync button.
Now I can get email notifications when I cycle the sync...but only then. In the thread I found doing this once seemed to 'unstick' the sync, but that's not happening with me.
What sorts of things can 'hang' the sync? I'm still guessing some apps i've installed...
Anyone else running into this issue? I've got all auto syncing enabled, yet gmail will not push mails to me. I have to manually open gmail and refresh in order to get new mails. I've tried disabling sync and reenabling. I'm using the gmail app. Nothing special here... haven't even rooted or flashed another rom yet.. maybe that's my problem...
Thanks for any help.
i am having the same issue..when i enable sync , i get mail notifications for some time..then after few hours , i have to open gmail and refresh it to see new mails.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the same. There are times it works right after reenabling and running a 'test' mail.. it's just the important mails that don't come through
Same issue for me. All of a sudden my Gmail app won't push my mail. All sync on
I am also seeing the same.
Not sure if it's co-incidence but this happened after I flashed XXUBMEA and then, to demonstrate, enabled and all the Sammy stuff, including the Samsung Push thing - not a great demonstration (except the facebook apps join, which just kind of white screen sat there).
Incidently, freezing the Sammy bloat stuff removed the absurd lag (which was improved with the XXUBMEA flash).
Next step - remove Gmail from system and re-install.
Edit: Removing Gmail and then re-installing from Google Play worked. Notifications now coming through.
Now to wait for Apex update which will allow the unread count to return to the dock.
