its odd because it only happens with this phone, if I switch the sim to another phone, I never get them... (i also get the call didn't go throug/busy tone)
I usually get this only when I call another t-mobile phone (especially my SO)
Would updating the radio firmware do anything for this?
if so, is it like updating the rom? I'd like to do it if it'll do me any good
supposedly I have 02.25.11
it's kinda odd that you are getting a busy signal. at least it means that you're signal is going out. usually if you get a message on your phone that you can't get service, try again later, it means you have a weak signal.
in your case, maybe you're unlucky and you keep calling someone that's on the phone?
the part of switching phones and using the same sim...that sounds like something that could be fixed with a radio rom upgrade. i remember reading something about similar complaints in the past...
for radio rom upgrades, do a search and you should be able to find it...or i think one of mfrazz's rom release threads has all the rom links. just make sure that the radio rom file you find is for radio only. radio only roms are upgraded using the RUU like a normal rom, but will only effect the radio portion, so you don't have to worry about losing any information on your phone.
Hi all,
just tried out the 1.54.07 radio which i think is the most current, but i noticed that the 1.50.00 that was workign really well for me is even better than the newest one. I get 2 bars in my basement where i used to get nothing, and the 1.54 gives me one bar spotty. I am interested in going back to the 1.50.00
would I just install the 1.50 radio the same way i always do and not worry about the fact that it is going down? or is there a process to remove the 1.54? haven't been able to find anything searching
also, more of a curious note than anything, all of the radio updates that i've done take only a few minutes, usually less than 5. this one (1.54.07) took the full 25 minutes. made me nervous. anyone know why this may be? oh well again thats more curiousity i can live without knowing
thanks for the help guys

As for the first question, just flash 1.50 right over it. No needs to worry. The downgrading issues only effected downgrades across radio BL versions (which are at MUCH lower revision numbers than 1.50, so nothing to worry about).
Regarding the flash time, I wonder what the nbh file you flashed looked like. The full 25 minutes sounds like a full ROM flash. What RUU did you use? I am not sure why it would have taken so long. Sorry.

that radio doesn't use the custom RUUWrapper, when I upgraded to 1.54, it took awhile, I was ****ting my pants alittle too. 1.54 didn't work for me either so just downgraded back to 1.50..no probs.
cool guys. thanks
(solution at the bottom of this post)
Hey, ive searched for a little while now and i havnt found a solution, so if i missed it im sorry just point me in the rigth direction. In the mean time, here is my issue:
Its the same issue with:
4.5
4.9
5.0
(these are the only onces ive used)
all downloaded from:
http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
now ive wiped before flashing each update, and even wiped after the update, ive even gone back to rc29 and then trying again
when i get the phone to finish booting up, my radio gives me issues, it will show full bars, then none, then full, then none, never showing edge, so i go into wireless settings and realize that every 20 seconds or so, airplain mode is coming on for a half a second then going back off, without me clicking it, but when it does this, it never shows the airplane icon where it does if i click it myself in the top status bar
now if i manage to dial out a call at the right time, it will keep the full bars, and dial out properly, i can have a half hour phone call or longer without a problem, when i hang up, i have full bars AND edge for atleast a hour or so, and then i drop edge all of the suddon and go back into the airplane loop, inwhich a simple phone call (even to voicemail) fixes it temporarily
this issue happens as soon as i reboot the phone as well, as it starts up, it shows no connection, then emergency calls only, then tmobile, and repeats
when under mobile settings when trying to select a network manually if im lucky for it to show tmobile and at&t, 90% of the time it tells me it cant connect to tmobile due to my sim. if i keep clicking it it will say registering to network, but it will stay in the loop with the airplane mode flickering on and off
again, if this is something stupid im missing, or if its been explained elsewhere, my bad just point me in the right direction, but either im not searching for the right thing or ive just completely missed it, either way, someone help me before i have to go back to JF 1.42, im really enjoying this magic port
Ok, so thanks to the suggestion to "update the radio" and Google for pointing me in the right direction. I did as follows, and so far, so good.
Download this file to SD card
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip
Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip Sapphire Radio 2.22.19.23
Rename it update.zip
Reboot Phone in Recovery
(I wiped, this may not be needed, but I did anyway)
Alt + S to install the update
the phone will ask you to do the home + back to reboot, press it and it will do a few other things, including reboot into a screen with a arror pointing at a microchip, then it will reboot back into recovery
hit the home + back yet again to perform another reboot and it will boot up normally and so far, ive yet to have an issue with my radio after this

THANK GOD I AM NOT ALONE!!!!
This problem has been plaguing me as well with all of these new builds!!!
Ultimately I ended up going back to JF 1.42 MOD because I needed a working phone.
I flashed to 5.0G tonight... and its doing the same thing... radio on then radio off. I tried flashing to the new Sapphire radio... nothing works.
I would love for someone to come up with a working solution.
Thanks!

i feel the same way, i thought it was just me
there has to be something im missing, so many other people use these builds without issues like this, there is no way someone could put up with this issue and use the phone as a daily phone reliably
if you want to have 5.0 (well i flashed H not G but im sure it would work regardless) time a phone call to your voicemail when your radio flashes on and when it vibrates saying the call connected, hangup, and everything will be fine for a few hours
do me a favor though, read over the stuff i just added to my first post, see if your phone is doing anything different than mine, that way when someone who comes in here and is able to help, they know exactly what our phones are doing, and hopefully its not just us with this issue and it will get others in the trend of explaining in detail what is wrong with theres, maybe this will help speed up getting a solution lol (wishful thinking?)
I am redoing things once again.... reflash, etc.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
But it's late and I am tired and annoyed.
If it happens again... I will try to make a video of whats happening so others can actually see it.
I thought I was going crazy I'm on 5.0G now the new one which adds busybox but I've been having the same exact problem as the OP but I haven't tried the Sapphire Radio yet but we all seem to experience different issues anyway.

no fun, sorry your having issues too, you say we are having different issues, could that be because we are using the HTC code and your using the GOOGLE code? or did i misunderstand you?
can you explain a little more about the sapphire radio vs other radios? ive been trying to understand what the difference is, and how to switch between them, but so far im unable to find a clear answer, so can you tell me the difference and how to switch between them?
thanks for your help
EDIT:
oh and what do you use busybox on the g1 for? i just read up on it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BusyBox) and i have a general idea of what it is now, but whats the use of it on the g1? do you use it as kind of a DOS for the g1? is it more for developers than end users?
This problem has happened to me but seems as all I needed to do was to reupdate the radio. It worked for me!

thanks man, i just did that using this radio update, so far (on 5.0) im not having any issues, for the record i did a wipe before updating the radio just to make sure i started fresh
i used this update:
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip
Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip Sapphire Radio 2.22.19.23
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip
download this.. all is resolved.
it has been discussed over a hundred times in the original thread.
Still having issues!!!
I am still having these same issues!!!
I posted a video here....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-j5x953Vkw
Its driving me nuts! I downloaded and flashed the Sapphire Radio RC33 twice! Still acting up.
It runs fine in JF1.42MOD.
Any ideas??? Any other radio ROMS I can try?

try reflashing the rom, then do the radio update
Hi all, I've just rooted my phone (Australian release on Optus) and i was wondering if the radio update has regional limitations or not? Because i've heard positive things about it but I don't want to screw my phone up.

did you get it working right? i tried the 5.0h as well and did the sapphire radio update and mine was doing that as well so i went back to jf. i wouldn't mind trying it again if i could actually use my phone. lol
Any of you guys experiencing **** signal now? I sit in my room and i can't even get calls anymore. It show's it has service but i get no calls coming through. Sometimes i just get no service, whereas before the update I always got service here.. Also, after school where i barely get service inside, and i go outside i have to reboot the phone to get signal again.. wtf?
Any fixes?
Unfortunately, I'm getting the same experience. Already filed a ticket with T-Mo...they're going to look into it. This is ridiculous.
+1
Gotta agree with you here. I've noticed my phone spending more time with a big fat 'G' in the bar then the '3G'. Not very happy about it and wish I could just flash the original stock ROM back.
Where do u file a ticket
No problems here in the UK. Maybe its related to the 1700Mhz frequency. Is it the same in both 2g and 3g? compared to the same before in 2g and 3g of course.
My signal is just fine after the OTA... actually, get 1 more bar at my Dad's than I did before... his house is my true testing grounds since it is an old house with metal in the exterior walls at a low point on top of a hill... nobody gets coverage at his place minus 1-2 bars by the door, and 2-3 outside.
With my G1 I got 0-2 in the house, and my N1 gets 1-3 depending on where I am at. Better than any phone I have ever tested there, including BB's, WM's, and plain Janes.
do you have any custom radio settings or anything?
Same problem here. Really getting pissed off now.
Same here, posted about it earlier... I emailed google, no word yet!
since the update im always on 3g / H
one more note, I have never dropped a call on my BB's in the past and it happens all the time on my N1... if the damn screen wasnt so pretty I'd say f it!
I'm having the same issues but I am using AT&T. Even though I have full bars on Edge, I can't make nor receive calls or texts more often than before.
No issues after the ota, and still getting 3G/H 4bars most of the time. One wierd thing after the ota, is when I run speedtest, the nearest Server it locks on is 1,586 miles away It use to be in Las Vegas hood!
No decrease in network connectivity here... I'm actually seeing better 3G connectivity than before the update.
same here... and wouldnt you think full edge would mean 3g service? the radio in this phone is all f'd up
What method did you guys use to update? Did you remove the battery at all during the update, or did you let it go until it rebooted on its own?
Maybe try reflashing the update manually, really easy to do with or with out an unlocked boatloader and root. I am thinking you might have a bad flashing of the radio ROM or incomplete update. The radio ROM update has done wonders for so many, and was heavily tested for a couple weeks by Google, so I highly doubt it would be a step backwards... only way I could see the update itself being the 'root' of the problem is if it isn't compatiable with the broadcast radios being used in your area on the towers.
my nexus is MUCH better after the update. MUCH BETTER.
I did it manually step for step it went along with the directions and discription

Does a better job than I could/would.
If I go with the 6P into an area where TMobile has poor signal and it switches to Edge, after a while it seems to lose signal completely and it never gets it back even when it goes back to an area with good LTE coverage. The only way to get the cell radio to work again is to reboot the phone.
There is an issue reported but no progress on a solution:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37132663
I tried radios 3.72, 3.75 and 3.81, all have the same problem for me.
Trying to figure out how widespread the issue is and whether anyone found any workarounds (short of rebooting when it happens).
I'm on radio 3.84 and still experience issues from time to time

I had the same problem with T-Mobile But flashing the radio 3.84 fixed it for me.:good:
Not ready to move to Oreo, does 3.84 work with the latest stock N? Worth giving it a try I suppose, though reports on it are mixed, some still have problems while others haven't experienced any yet.
If you are on radio 3.84, can you please post whether you're using Oreo or still N? Curious to see whether the OS or perhaps vendor makes a difference or it's purely a radio issue.

I'm on Nougat and Radio 3.84 and works great on T-Mobile usa for me. Radios are backwards compatible for the most part....
early radio version
was it 3.64 or 3.68 that was best radio? after that I have had issues with all radios ever since, even with 3.84 flash. Wonder if it would be ok to flash back to one of those...
3.85 seems to be better than other 3.8x versions. When a version doesn't work well for me I tend to go back to 3.72
