I am using the Imate PPCPE with the latest ROM and Radio Stack. The phone has been working fine ever since I've had it (few months now) but since two or three days ago, I have noticed that if I have been in an area where the phone can not find a signal or has very low signal strength (basement or elevator etc.) when I come out into the area where there should be normal (strong) signal strength, even then the phone doesnt automatically find a signal and come back online... instead i still get the antenna with no signal bars until i reset the device.
As far as I can remember I haven't installed any new software in the last week to have caused this.. otherwise I am running Wisbar Advance 2 and Spb Plus and Pocket Breeze and stuff... but all this has been on there for many months but this issue only started in the past couple of days.
Has anyone experienced this with their device? Is it software related or is it hardware? Will a hard reset fix it? Any other experiences?
This was a not uncommon problem with early XDA II's with the ROM V1.03, but recent ROM updates seemed to have cured it.
It got so bad with some users, that the continuous signal seek drained both the main and backup batteries, causing a hard reset. From ROM 1.60 this was "cured" as the phone module now powers off once the battery gets critical.
It could be a hardware fault in your case, especially if you are experiencing the problem in areas that used to be OK. May be worth trying a hard reset? What ROM/Radio are you using?
Rom: 1.72.00WWE
Radio:1.14.00
Well a hard reset seems to have fixed the issue. Now let me try to notice if adding new software affects this.
Thanks
Signal strength still very low
Its still not fixed.
The signal strength is very poor in general. In areas where its supposed to have a FULL signal, its less than full and where the signal is already not so strong, there's no signal. All i get is "SEARCHING" (for signal). Why is this happening? everything was just fine a few weeks ago.
Its very annoying because frequently when i look at my phone, I see a "searching" message and everyone's complaining why my phone is always off.
Is this something that can just happen out of the blue in a fully normal phone? It this software related or a hardware issue?
Any similar experiences? any recommendations?
Ive recently started getting this too.
I upgraded to the latest 1.72 o2 rom, maybe its an issue with the radio stack in that?
I didnt used to get it at all.
Its a problem when you come out of a lift, or from the tube. You have to reset it everytime!
For me, I dont think its related to the new ROM. Because my device always had the latest ROM (1.72WWE) and the radio stack but it never happened until recently.
And I upgraded my ROM to the newest WM2003SE (2.06WWE) and Radio but the issue is still there.
I am beginning to think its a hardware related issue.
What did you do about it Pyrofer? Is it fixed on your device now? What device do you have? Mine is an Imate.
could be hardware bro...... how about trying on 1.08 radio rom? when i reverted back to 1.08 my signal level increased... i was also annoyed by that signal searching stuff.. goodluck

@Z-man
i was trying to do the same, i wanted to use radio 1.10 with OS 2.02t1 but i got error code :123! it seems i can't use older radio stack!
how did you do it? i can jump between radio 1.14, 1.14a, 1.18 but i could not go older version!
one more thing should i reflash every thing to update only radio?and could you post your radio stack?
thanx man.
Iput together the upgrde to wMSE in one folder, then replaced the orig. radio rom with 1.08..
I used er2003edit to check if the language and operator was the same as i have in my unit... e.g. WWE and O2.
then i plug the charger in the cradle clicked on the upgrde prgram
then all went well.. i have 1.06 bootloader....
I have tried radio roms 1.14, 1.17 but i eventually reverted to 1.08
thanks to am-imate for the radio rom
OK I'll also try the new (I mean older, 1.08 Radio).
How do I know what version of bootloader I have?
More importantly, what role does the boot loader play in this whole ROM upgrading thing?
When we upgrade from WM2003 to WM2003SE we know we are doing it for some new features and stuff... when we upgrade radio, it must be the same, so what are the differences between the 1.08 and 1.18 Radio? why would an older one be more stable?
the boot loader version 1.06 they say does not allow downgrade.....maybe of o/s rom.
to check for boot loader version, push navi key+power button+reset button. be warned though, this would equal a hard reset....
radio roms had their revisions... hence, 1.08,1.14,1.17,1.18...
i monitored the my signal levels using 1.08 through 1.17 and observed that 1.08 is better for my unit.. goodluck dude
No problem... I was on a quest earlier on in the year to get as many radio ROM's as possible, but couldn't get anything earlier than 1.08.
I have the same problem, I actually had a 1.06 Radio ROM that I blasted away by accident that used to work really well. I'm on 1.18 and have difficulties, so I'll probably drop back down to 1.08 on my next hard reset.
What appears to be happening in my case is the phone searches out a 900Mhz signal first (which in my case is another carrier and is stronger than the 1800/1900Mhz) and sits there and doesn't go on to scan the 1800 and 1900Mhz bands.
am-imate
cool bro!... I'll se if i find 1.06 and maybe post it here
Ive done nothing about it.
I just put up with frequent resets at the moment.
Ive unticked ALL other carriers in the networks settings now to see if that helps. I have the latest o2 rom with the latest radio version in that.
I dont think its hardware as I havent done anything that would damage it in any way.
Unless it breaks itself from just being in my pocket.
My call reception with the 8525 is easily (and by far) the worst I have ever had with any phone.
Is this typical? And/or are there any fixes? My reception is often poor and often yo-yo's up and down, with lots of dropped calls.
I'm using the default ROM, with radio 1.16.00.00 (yes I'm a newbie, and yes I've been reading the wiki, etc, and alas I'm still not comfortable figuring out which bootloader, SPL, etc etc I have). I do NOT use any of the data functions, so if another radio ROM is the answer, my only criteria is call reception.
Almost wondering if it could be loose hardware?
Thanks for any ideas.

Install Hard SPL V5.
Flash radio 1.27 or higher.
I personally use 1.38.30.10 and switched to that from 1.34.00.10
The instructions are in the appropriate thread for Hard SPL, and also in the Wiki.
Remember that any flashing has the potential to ruin your device, Hard SPL makes it so that the device can be recovered in most cases.
Any of the 1.27 or higher radios should fix or greatly improve your reception issues.
Also keep in mind that HardSPL will flash quickly (less than a minute or two) but the radio takes the longest of any component to flash (10 to 20 minutes). I recommend when starting a radio flash that you disable all power management and screensaver on your computer that you are flashing from, establish your activesync connection and then run the radio upgrade ruu. Once that is done leave the room and don't come back for 30 minutes. This will prevent you from tinkering while the flash is taking place.
As said above flash HardSPLv5 FIRST
and then flash a newer radio, the latest PROVEN radio is 1.38.00.10. A few people have reported battery drain issues with the later iMate radio so i still recommend the radio in the guide.
How to flash HardSPL v5
How to flash radio 1.38.00.10
These guides make it look easy but if you havent read through the wiki please do so since it contains BUCKETLOADS of info.
Thanks to both of you for the pointers.
I have read the HardSPL page and downloaded HardSPL and the .net framework.
Looking at the install snapshots, my 1st hitch was wondering what SPL I had (since it looks like you need to pick a version during the install).. but I was able to decode that by going to the settings->device info->ROM version, and then indexing down this table http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades to determine that with ROM 1.34.502.1, I should have SPL 1.06 (is there any way to determine this more directly?)
I've grabbed 1.38.00.10 and will give this all a go when I get to work in the AM (and have plenty of time to babysit) (also I figure allowing another 18 hours for other suggestions/cautions to float in isn't the worst of ideas )
Will report back when complete. Thanks again for the info.
Mike
If you READ THE GUIDE it goes through the procedure of finding your SPL and what options to select. Please read it word for word.

Like you, I am a newbie, new 8525, read the wiki and forums for days before taking the plunge. I flashed hard SPL and Radio ROM 1.38. The reception improvement is dramatic and my battery life is dramatically improved. Someone earlier used the word "sip" to describe the minimal power this Radio ROM uses and that is true. I actually wondered on the first day of use if the battery meter was working.
If you follow the upgrade guide to the letter, you should have no problem flashing your device but you must read the guide. I know the experts have told you this but wanted to let you know that a newbie can actually do this successfully.
status on how well the radio works

James, HOw long ago did you do this? how long has it been working for you? Just curious. I have had a horrible time with reception and i have tried several of the 'upgrades' but have never touched the radio. So far, not much improvement...so i am curious abot the radio rom upgrade.

My god please try upgrading the radio right now, generally the radio is responsble for any battery drain issues people are having.
Follow my guides, first make sure you have HardSPL on the device and then flash a newer radio.
See how it goes?
I will I will
MrVanx,
I am trying now. But i am trying to read everything first and your message said upgrade to hardsplv5 and your guide has v6 attached. was there a reason you said v5 instead of v6...i am not having battery drain issues at all, i am only having dropped calls. Thanks for your wisdom. I will wait for your reply on v5 vs v6 and then will flash the radio to 1.38.

the post said v5 because i wrote that before v6 was released
The guide is updated for v6, please use that.
DISREGARD...I GOT IT
mrvanx, i am following the guide, but i have a file called ruu wrapper instead of romupgrade.exe. when i try to run this file it fails to execute and gives a windows error. i had .net framework 3.0 running and i have since uninstalled it, but i am still unable to run the ruuwrapper file to upgrade the hardsplv6. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'd like to go back and ask about hardware again.. I've installed the new radio, and my reception still bounces around like a yoyo. Start a call with 5 bars, then 10 seconds later down to 0 and drop the call. I'm frankly more comfortable opening up and soldering itty bitty pins on chips vs. my knowledge of the ROM upgrades (so far) anyway.
Thanks for any leads,
Mike

You're not in one of those areas that has both 2g and 3g coverage are you? If so limit phone to 2g only, otherwise Hermes goes crazy by automatically trying to swap between the two and will drop calls in the process.

EDIT: ok, now I see Enable/Disable GSM/UMTS Band Selection in the Wiki tweak section. This appears to be a big step towards what I need... will test for a few days.

Yes, worth a try at least. Hermes tries to go for strongest signal. However even within one room that can switch about from 2 to 3g. I may be wrong but I believe danielhererro's bandswitch application could make things easier here. Has a nice interface to make it easy to switch bands etc.
Well worth posting back to let us know how things go - even if it's not good news!!
Mike
Very much another question of ignorance, but might be too basic for the XDA wiki, yet mildly too in depth for Wikipedia...
I do apparently have both GSM and WCDMA in my area (I had previously associated 2G and 3G only with data connections, not voice, so tonite has been educational for me) (it also didn't help that Cingular hides the 'Band' menu from users, so I had no control, nor awareness, before using the registry tweak)
With the Hermes, with both GSM and WCDMA available, is there an obvious preference for me? Or is it a tradeoff of power vs. quality? Or just dumb luck of whichever coverage happens to be better in the exact spot I happen to be?
Thanks,
Mike
I can't say my reception is improved, but I do seem to be dropping fewer calls now....
Mike
Still poor reception
I have a newer 8525 latest rom and 1.40.30.00 raido rom, and it still gets poor reception, I have tried my sim card in a 8125 and V3 and get exelent coverage in the same spot... its always egde if that helps..
anyone have any ideas? If I can't figure it out i'm gonna have to sell it and go back to an 8125..
Thanks

Hey guys,
When i take the train my phone has no reception.
but when i get out of the station and wait, My phone gets full bars.
but i can't call anyone. It keeps saying "call failed, try your call again later."
my service doesn't show up, but the bars are full.
does anyone know why my machine is doing this?
thanks!
can somone please help me out. ny phone is pissing me off! I would stand one place waiting for it to search for signal but it never connects! I even have full bars!
my only way to solve this is to reset my phone!
I have full bars but it keeps searching. and no matter where I go I won't connect.
sometimes I have to keep hammering the send button to make a call.
can someone please help me out.
thanks in advance.
try put d sim card in other mobile to see if is from sim card or mobile...
it's most likely due to your radio rom. i use to have problems like this in the past. have weak signal around work. when i leave work, even though i get my bars back, it would take a while to actually be able to make a call.
recommendation 1) upgrade the radio rom on your phone. most people recommend 2.19, but i think that's what i use to have when i had weaker signal. signal would pick up and allow me to make calls considerable quicker in 2.25.11 and higher.
recommendation 2) in comm manager turn your phone off and then back on, when you get the signal back, you should be able to make a call.
When i turn on my phone the radio says 2.25. so am i using the wrong version?
I don't get it.
thanks
If you've upgraded to any version of windows mobile 6 then 2.25 is almost definitely your problem. Try using 2.19 or 2.69 as they seem to be the only ones that don't experience this problem. There are people working on a fix for the rest of them, but I'm not sure that they have finished the fix yet and the last time I read their posts the fix may only work on cingular or at&t when they do get it working.
Thanks, But im using WM5 with T-mo
sorry i left this info out.
so which version should i use?
Thanks in advance.

Then it should be pretty much fair game for whatever version you like. 2.69 is still the newest and seem to work pretty well. I have heard of pretty good results with the 2.4 something or other version as well but I would probably go with 2.69 myself.
Thanks,
is the faria 02.69.11.rar the correct one?
thanks
Yes, that one works very well, and the one that avatar28 was mentioning (the 2.4 something) is 2.47. I actually like that one better than 2.69 but it doesen't like to work with WM6.

LOL. Yeah, that one. Sorry, I'm a bit short on sleep at the moment and my brain's a touch fuzzy plus I've been away for awhile.
That's ok, just thought I'd help you out there a little. 2.47 is a really good radio version. I wish I could still use it because I got better reception and better recovery time from that one than every other one I've tried and I've tried them all. 2.69 comes in a close 2nd though.
I really think this deserves a thread on its' own.
I've been having some real crazy headaches and problems with my phone lately.
I updated my phone to TNT 5.0 with touchflo. I have WM6.0 with IPL / SPL 2.26. GSM is 2.25 and my OS is 6.0.0.0. I have no idea how to check what my radio rom version is... I am currently with Rogers in Canada. I installed lokiwizb to unlock this phone.
Simply put, I'm fed up. I get the "colnot.dll, clocknot.dll and repllog.dll" files all the time! What's wrong is that the "touch" on my phone is a bit screwy, either doing things late or not tapping at all.
The worst is that my phone either has poor or no reception at all! Forget about calling today, it just doesn't work. And I realised this week that I had dropped calls and calls that were just not picked up. Afterall having messages from days ago when the phone is on me is not such a good thing.
I've actually dropped the battery status plug in a while back because I had problems with that too.
What can possibly be wrong with the phone. I upgraded it to WM6 and put on cool roms to make it more appealing and in the process, it turned out to be a nightmare.
And CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME what that hard "tock" sound is everytime I hit a key???
Is there a radio rom I should install to get better reception? Should I downgrade back to some other rom, maybe even wm5? Is there a way to overclock (not over 240) my phone without any problems from the application? If it's not the htc rom, is there still a way to get the weather plugin? That is a really nice and useful item.
Please, anyone that could fix my phone is a champ. I'm just sick and tired of these problems.
Phil
Do a hard reset and your troubles will end. It works for me

Easy, 'GSM is 2.25' is your radio version presently installed on your phone. The most stable Radio Rom version commonly preferred is Radio Rom version 2.19.11 UK or 2.69.11,download and flash to check if you get a better reception a fewer missed calls.
As per other file pop ups,its better you reflash again and try the other latest TNT.1620 Series Professional and not the touchflo.hope you'll get a much better performance and no troubles or even try out the latest XMr5 Rom.For overclocking, download 'Batterystatus' install and use.
Cheers !
Revenge of the notifications!!!
Hey Zabra,
Thanx for your reply. I am trying to install the TNT 1620. But these notifications are very annoying. So far it looks good, but as far as performance goes - too early to tell.
Do you know how to at elast turn off the clonot, calnot and repllog notifications???
I'll try to install batt status now. Hopefully, it'll work better than the last time!
Phil
P.s. - what about registry edits? I would like to know if there are any that haven't been included on this rom.
hey guys lately my hd2 has been dropping its signal randomly and when I try to text somebody, im also having the problem of me not receiving phone calls from people but seeing on theirphone that they called me. I asked for help awhile back but no one replied so I figured I try again and maybe this time someone can help me, please this is so annoying!
idk..
idk its weird i'm having the same problem with my phone. earlier this week i can make calls and text just fine with no problems now my phone keeps telling me it lost connection or unable to send text.
It also happens to me once in a while. It'll have full signal bars, but when I go to make the call, it'll update and tell me there's no signal and won't let me call. It even happens if I don't go to make a call. It's really frustrating since it won't get a signal again for a couple of minutes.
I'm glad im not the only one with this problem now only if we can get some help with this issue than this thread wont be a total waste
Well, the only thing I can say, is you guys need to put some info up about your phones, like maybe the Radio version and the ROM version ...
Good things to keep in your sig ..
Might be able to help, but sounds like you guys might just need a radio update ....
Had problems when i first had the phone but with the following i have not had any issues, also running android 2.1 with out any issues as well.
USA TMOBILE HD2
HSPL2, I know HSPL3 is/has been out and is recommended, but is there any advantage in using it, i don't want to change if i don't need to
Radio 2.10.50.26
O.S. 5.2.21908 (21908.5.0.93)
Manila 2.5.20161332.0
Energy.Leo.21908.Sense2.5.Cookie.Jul.16 (absolutely love the energy roms, always updated and he includes the program to back up all settings making the update flashes a pleasant experience)
Me too
I've been having very similar problems. Additionally, my 3G transfer rate seems to cap out at around 2 Mbps, despite living in an area that supposedly has HSPA+ data (Rochester, New York).
I'm using the stock T-Mobile ROM (the updated one), version 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE. ROM date 4/28/10
Radio version is 2.10.50.26.
I've been hesitant to flash an unofficial ROM or a new radio because I don't want to void my warranty before I've ruled out the possibility of a hardware flaw. I initiated a trouble ticket with T-Mobile smartphone support late last week, but haven't heard anything back yet.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I can provide any more info.
I'd like locations too. I haven't had so much as a hick up on my HD2 in over a month. No dropped calls, no connection issues. Etc.... I'm curious if this is happening in certain locations and may be a tower issue over a phone issue. People usually fail to realize your phone really only represents about 20% of your phone quality. Tower location, landmarks, buldings, rain, humitdity, cement walls, etc... all have effects on your signal. When I had the stock HD2 rom installed I would get calls breaking up in my apt. But I could just open the door and go outside and it cleared right up. Now since running Kumars rom I seem to get great reception anywhere I go. Remember TMO's working on their HDSPDA thingy all over the country. They have taken down our 3G network about 6 times this last week for a couple hours at a time. But now I get way way way more (H)'s then (3G)'s now. ALso what are your data speeds? I get 3MB/0.88MB If your getting way less then that their may be somethign wrong with the network or your settings. I've seen as high as 5.5/1.5 out in LA.
wow as long as am not the only one with the problem. but what mine does is it will show full signal and when am making the call i lose it so i wont b able to call
i'm in new york,n.y and i have the htc 2.13 rom and my radio is 2.10. Today i gave somebody my number and they called me right in front of me so i could store their number,i watched their phone ring and my phone showed full bars and didnt ring once. they had to call me again and then it went through,i'm thinking about upgrading my radio but dont know how to yet and if i need to flash a custom rom in order to do so.
Have u tried looking into ur task manager and viewing which tasks r running (end all tasks)? I was having the same problems and I just could not figure what was going on and I have talked with others and they asked me about consistently ending my tasks as much as possible, which could slow down ur phone. Well, I noticed that everytime I would go and view my task manager that my phone was in active sync (I believe has to do with my email accounts bc they r constantly syncing no matter if I had put to check every 1 hr/2hr/30min so...what I did was disable all of my email accounts and what do u know...my phone hasn't been syncing out of the blue and causing drop calls PERIOD! Now, there is a difference between Active Sync and Windows Sync PC, however, Windows Sync is only when ur USB is plugged into ur PC. Well, I hope this help some...!
