I dont think it can be changed, not that I have ever seen at least.
You want it to look like the Opera Mobile 10 page I assume, where you see pics of the sites.
I honestly dont use that tab, and turn it off, I find it rather usless since I am using Opera Mobile 10..

Internet Explorer Start Page

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've searched and I couldn't find an answer, so I'm hoping someone will indulge me by answering again
My device was supplied to me by my office as an MDA Vario, but I've unlocked it and I use it as my personal phone on orange. Whenever I load internet explorer it goes to a t-mobile favourites page (http://www.tmobile-favourites.co.uk) regardless of what I set the home page to in the options.
How do I change this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Try changing in the registry setting at HLKM\software\microsoft\internet explorer\aboutURLs\home
see if that does it
No, that didn't help.
The home registry key was set to the page I'd set as my home page, but the device goes still goes to the tmobile favourites page when I start internet explorer.
Also, I searched the whole registry for the URL of the tmobile page, and I couldn't find any reference to it.
i have the same problem...i dont want t mobiles site to load
Try changing HKLM\Software\HTC\BrandedBrowser\home
That is the register key in my Vario.
On dutch T-Mobile Vario's IE starts with a customized local .htm file.
If you just change that file with a list of shortcuts that can be a solution as well.
BTW I like (the dutch) T-Mobile page pda.t-mobile.nl as a portal.

I have also been trying this without success. I currently have two versions of the SKY+ Java software, one which works with the touchscreen one which doesnt. the touchscreen one always times out during connection whereas the non touchscreen one says "The data connection has failed" whenever I press the login button. The app itself seems very compatible and appears to fill the WVGA screen very nicely, however we will need someone who knows a little more about how to "point the the java app in the right internet direction" (excuse my non technical description, this is where my technical ability runs out ) the java emulator itself does not help much as it contains no options to apply to the app
I have it working great. Just install the JBED Java version and then install it from inside that. It only logs in when you have the Vodafone proxy disabled though.
It's great to have a 50 channel EPG!!

could you please expand a little, how do you 'disable the vodafone proxy'? as far as I can tell that doesnt really make any sense! I really want to get this software working so any help you can give as to how you set yours up would be most appreciated, Thankyou
This worked for me:
Install Jbed attached above and use it to install the Sky.jar program.
On your Xperia go through:
settings
then select the connections tab
then the connections icon
followed by the advanced tab
Now chosse the select networks button and in the top drop down menu (the connection for programs which automatically connect to the net to use) and change it to "WEB" rather than "My ISP".
My ISP uses wap.vodafone.co.uk as an access point name via a proxy server.
WEB uses "internet" as an access point name without using a proxy server.
You do need to also do the following to get the service runiing:
1. Register for "my sky" at the sky website.
2. Add remote recording to the list of services runningon your my sky account
3. Activate remote recording on your sky box through its menu system
I've tested it out and I can access the 7day listing guide and send record instructions straight to the box (only takes 1-2mins).
Has anyone got this working on an o2 X1 - I don't have a "Web" option in my connections!

The WEB is a Vodafone name. I know o2 work on the same type of system (web and wap) so if you list what's available we should be able to take a guess at which one you should be using.
Hi artesea, thanks for your response. I have just tried again.... the o2 X1 has a choice of My ISP or Work Internet - so selected Work Internet and bingo it all loaded at connected at last
Tested it and within five seconds it updated my sky HD box!!!!
Thanks all!
Hi,
Sorry for the slight change in direction in the topic but it is relevent (hopefully you guys will agree)
whats the difference between "My ISP" and "work Internet" other than one points to the providers proxy server? Im with o2 and have the unlimited web bolt on - is this only unlimited web as long as i go through the "My ISP" connection?
If not, I dont actually see the point in going through the ISP's proxy at all?
Cheers,
Craig
Both Vodafone and o2 have two types of connections, can't remember the exact names so I'll call them INTERNET and WAP.
They were set up back in the day when the internet on your mobile was WML files and not much else.
WAP would allow you to access the internet on your phone, mainly to the companies own portal (Vodafone Live! etc).
INTERNET was to be used by a computer connected to the phone via Infrared or data cable. The networks have compressors at their end to decrease the size of the files to make it quicker and cheaper (you might notice images look crap). Connecting over WAP wouldn't work.
Since then phones have got very smart, and networks are getting behind.
For example you can't access Vodafone Live! whilst using INTERNET, but then you can't access a 3rd party app on WAP.
I can see that some apps are being allow over WAP (google maps), however I've found it a lot easier to have everything running over INTERNET.
Not 100% sure if o2 will allow you to use INTERNET in your bundle, but Vodafone do.
Can someone post the Sky Remote Record java app? Or at least post a link where they found it. I have it working on my X1 but the program size is so small it is hard to read.
How do you get around the issue of logging in using an O2 X1? I have the app installed and can enter username and password but can't select login. I saw a suggestion was to map the left and right keys to volume up and down (think it was for a differernt handset though) but when in the buttons settings there is no options to remap these keys to volume.
The left and right buttons are mapped to Login and Exit already.
My problem is the network not found problem. Like hell I'm installing another Java. I did that with my old Polaris and had nothing but problems afterwards.

But on my handset (and I know some other peoples) the login button (left softkey) does not function so you can't even login. It would appear that some people have a workaround for this, just wondering what that is.
after a bit of hair pulling i finally managed to get this to work at last.
I finally bit the bullet and de-vodafoned my device to the new R2A ROM (using SD card method - see other threads for more info).
I use AE Button Plus to remap the left and right soft keys to "hard" keys (select left key -> 3. Handle by AEBplus -> 1. single press -> 11. press left soft key. Same for right (soft)key). After hitting OK choose file then "save & exit"
This might help O2 users with the connection setup.

If you are looking for the two applications required then goto message #3 of this thread (thats on page 1) then click the link. Goto message #4 of the resulting thread for links to the applications
Help
I have reassigned the left and right key with AE Button Plus but still cannot login or exit via the keys?
Any help out there?
For me, the hard key to log in would only work when the keyboard is open. Odd, but gets around it and I can now at least remote record.
I have just assigned the buttons, so they always operate the softkeys, which is a bit annoying as I prefered one for rotate screen. Is there a way to only map the buttons within the Java app?
Thanks sebring
This appears to be the same for me.
Keyboard open and the reassigned keys work....really strange that.
Thanks again.

Can't login on websites with HTC browser

Hi,
I have a "weird" problem with my HTC Hero: whenever I try to login on a webpage (e.g. a forum or the website of my university), it doesn't work...
So: on the website I tap on "Log in". The browser takes me to another site where I enter my username and password. But after tapping the "Login" or I tap "Enter", the browser redirects me to the previous login website, where I have to press again "Log in" and re-enter my details...This happens every time... It doesn't make "the click" to direct me to the site I get when the login works... My username and password are 100 % correct...
When i try it with Opera Mini, it DOES work...
Is it some kind of setting or ... ? I have enabled the browser to store my usernames and passwords I enter...
Thanks in advance !
Hmmm... anyone?
I have this problem with capital one's website.. I would like to know a fix as well.

Luna,
can't help you but I can share your problem. It happens to me too.
You are not at Manchester Uni are you?
I've tried a few websites that I use where login details are required i.e. forums, banks, email etc and it works fine for me.
Just out of curiosity, do you zoom in on the web page login area so that the 'Login' button is larger and can be selected easier? I always do that and never seem to have the problem you're experiencing.
@cbailey: no, I live in Belgium, so ..
@thecastleforkid: I just tried your method (zooming in on "Log In"), but it din"t work...
Like when I try to login in on a forum, for example www.9lives.be/forum (a belgian website), i try to login... so i click on the login button... the site redirects me to : www.9lives.be/login... I enter my details... the site SHOULD go back to www.9lives.be/forum, but in stead it goes to www.9lives.be/login/login......
and this happens with other websites also...
In Opera mini everything works fine (but i prefer the Hero browser with the multitouch...)
Very strange...
Hello.
I had the same issue with the french provider Orange.
So this is what I did to fix it, I don't know if it'll be the same for you :
Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Network Settings > Access Point Name
And I changed Orange World to Orange Internet.
The thing is you can't establish any secured connections (https) with some APNs apparently (I don't know the technicals details, sorry if I'm wrong in the explanations), so just try to change it.

Hi!
thanks for the tip, but I use Mobile Vikings... so I don't know what to change..
also: with opera mini it works fine.. and that's also on Mobile Vikings (obviously...).. so I guess it has to do with the browser of the Hero instead of my APN...
Correct me if I'm wrong

Try to connect your websites over wifi and you'll be fixed.
If it doesn't work on wifi with hero's browser it's not your apn.
Well... I've tried that method (connecting through wifi) before... it didn't work... tried it again now... didn't work...
Man, it's getting annoying (not a lot of other complaints on the Hero though...)
Thanks for the tip anyway !

I do think it has something to do with the security settings on the native browser. I try to login to my work intrAnet via the native browser and many times it goes straight into a password violation lockout because the network thinks I am trying to hack into it. ANyway, I have had your same problem. Guess for those certain sites you are just gonna have to use Opera Mini or something similar.
It's really weird I guess I can't help you sorry :/
Did you check if htc hero's browser accept the cookies in the settings ?

Internet Search defaults to Google.de

Hi,
I have my HD2 bought Sim Unlocked on UK 02
Ever since having it, it seems to randomly search on Google.de when searched from the google bar on internet tab on Manilla ( when on 3G) instead of google.com or preferably google.co.uk.
I'm not sure why this happens and would like to know if this is location based or dependant on registry setting
This has happened on Rom 1.48, 1.61 and 1.66
Any advice appreciated
Thanks
its definately a reg key but i dont know which one.
I thought a regkey seemed likely but found it strange that it defaulted to .de even on 3 different Roms. Originally I was on Voda ( different Phone ) but changed due to poor network Coverage. Never noticed it change to .de on Voda though?
Anyone with any ideas?
Preferences on google maybe? If you go to google.com you can usually set what language, country etc you want to search by default, and that gets stored in a cookie...
while we are talking about the browser, how can I change the opera mobile client, to get full desktop view for all the pages
mine dose that too so i set my opera home page to google.co.uk ans search from there, as i cant use the search from the internet tab !!
Is this on O2 - I've noticed that they're giving out German IP addresses
If you go to internetfrog.com you can check
took me a while to work it out!
The search box on teh internet manilla tab is hard coded, as far as I can see. I spent a while hunting through the registry with no luck. I'm with daddycool, just set a shortcut to .co.uk as a favourite and do my searching that way, forget all about the built in search box.
Thanks for feedback, yes it is on O2 and the comments now make sense!
At least i know I'm not going mad!

I dont know if this is what you are looking for (Noob Immunity) but: HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila and change the value of "InternetSearchURI" I was able to change the address to google.com but still doesnt work right. It sends it to "google.com(then types my search words here) sigh...
does anyone knows how to change the mobile client?
google seems to format the pages "because I am using a mobile"

Yes, in the registry find
HKEY Current User\Software\HTC\Manila
Look for the entry
Internet.Searchurl
and set it to the value
http://google.co.uk/search?hl=en-GB&output=html&q=%s
This will give you google.co.uk, and in HTML instead of mobile view.
The &q=%s is important, that passes the search query from the internet tab into googles search box, otherwise you just get the google homepage with no results.
if you want to get non mobile results from within opera, you need to set that within googles preferences, which will then save a cookie to your phone, and you will needed to do that whenever you clear the cache.

Lollipop Wifi Issue with Open Networks (screenshots included)

At work, I sign-on to the open wifi here. With KitKat, I would get a notification that there is an open network. I would then click on the notification which would open a browser window saying something about network security, do you still want to proceed. I would proceed, accept the IT dept. disclaimer and then be signed on to the wifi.
With Lollipop, I click on the notification which brings me to the screen in "Screenshot1.png" below. It brings me to a blank screen so I click on the setting button on the screen which is what you see on the screenshot. I then click on "Use this network as is" but it does not sign me onto wifi. Once I close out of the window, I get the same wifi notification again (Screenshot2.png).
So my question is, how do I sign-on to the wifi? I noticed the old notification would take me to a browser window where the new notification takes me to a non-browser sign-in window.
Bumping to see if anyone has any thoughts on this. I cant' be the only one having this issue.
Yes exactly the same issue here.
We use a captive portal sign in page and then a ssl web page for authentication through to the web.
Found http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2mkh95/ on reddit relating to this issue.
To sign-on you have to do the following (credit reddit):
1. tap sign in to Wi-Fi
2. press the three dots
3. choose you network as is
4. open chrome and go to any website that will redirect you to sign in page
5. sign in
While this is working for me, its a drag to go thru all that. Further more, I'm finding that if I'm not quick enough between steps 3 and 4, I get the open wifi notification again and have to start the process all over again.

Maybe bookmark the login page and place it on your home screen, turn off open networks notification and save the network so you automatically connect? You'll have some time without a working connection, but as soon as you notice, just tap the bookmark shortcut - Would that work?

Thanks for the tip. I'd like to try this. If I turn off open network notifications, how will I sign-on? I believe I HAVE to go thru the sign-on window shown in screenshot 1 of my first post before I can open up the browser. And in order to do that, I have to get the notification to get to the sign-in page.

The only open networks I've ever used, didn't need other sign on, than the login website that I got redirected to. So I think you can just let the phone connect, and then at any time open a browser. I even think the phone might give a notification when it discovers that there's a login-page blocking internet access?

Unfortunately I have to go thru the "Android" sign-on page and click "use network as is" before I can get to the browser to the sign-on page. This is in spite of having the wifi connection saved. If I try to just open the browser and get to the sign-on page once I get notification of the wifi network, it uses mobile data instead and does not take me to the sign-on page. That said, adding a bookmark shortcut was a good tip and has helped shorten the process up a bit.

Wow, that Lollipop behavior sounds sucky
Hopefully that's one of the things that will be ironed out with future updates!
I'm having this issue with my Moto X 2014 trying to login to my works wifi.
The main difference is when I try to use Chrome to sign into the network (once I'm connected to it through Wifi) I get a Page saying that 'Your connection is not private' it then goes on to say that people might be trying to steal information from google and basically complains that the certificate is invalid. No matter what I click on (even the Advanced tab) I can't continue.
However with my Samsung Tab S if I connect to the exact same network and also use Chrome to login I get the same error message yet if I click the Advanced tab I then can see an option to continue regardless (or words to that effect). Once I click that its fine. Yet this option is missing on my phone, almost as if the mobile version of chrome is clipping the web page so you can't see it. I'm going to install Firefox and give it a try (when I can connect to a wifi network).
As an update. I installed Firefox and again tried login into the network by going to Google homepage, again I got a similar message saying that the connection was unsecure and the certificate was invalid, again I couldn't continue. However I decided to try and go to a different URL and again I got the same message but this time I had an option to continue even though I knew the risks. This I did and then was prevented with my companies WiFi login page, after I entered my details it worked fine. I could also use Chrome browser without any issues.
SO if anyone else is having this problem, install Firefox and then go to any website other than google. Then hopefully you'll be able continue and login to your works unsecure WiFi.
