First Jason Ellis on Howard Stern, second there was no traffic on my way to work, third boss sends out an email saying drinks are on him tonight and now this.
What a morning.
However... this line right here:
Multi-touch and anti-fingerprint coating too. Hero arrives in Europe in July with T-Mobile and Orange, Asia later in the summer, and North America even later in 2009.

It's clock speed out of the box is 528mhz for one. I'm sure it can be pushed further even.
Well i am not too worried about the processor since both are clocked at 528 but what worries me is the rom and ram which the HERO has 512MB/288MB ROM/RAM while the G1 has 256MB/192MB ROM/RAM. This might mean that the hero we have now might be just as slow as this new version. I hope not but the ram really worries me.

Why would you think that? I doubt HTC would push out a laggy phone.... Plus the hero we have now I doubt is the final RC.

288 MB are enough for Rosie and the phone to work fast enough ;-)
The finished Hero looks pretty cool, as does the Sense UI interface. Can't wait for the inevitable port of the Hero's ROM to the G1
I would have to say that this is the first non physical keyboard I would consider buying. T-Mo US should have waited for Hero. Damn I would easily drop $500 for this unlocked. But I guess I will have to wait for the newest Hero port to the g1
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html
It says the battery has a capacity for 7 hours of heavy usage, the dream only has 5,83 hours!
Looks nice!
I want the browser right now.

Sorry i meant if we want to port it onto the G1. I meant to say so. Sorry for the confusion.
Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't tell the difference between hero and magic.... the specs are identical... http://www.htc.com/www/product/magic/specification.html

EDIT: Oh and the processory 7201 vs 7200
no physical keyboard = no buy, but I'm desperately waiting for some hero to port this over when it gets released

Is it an actual phone or Android 1.6 running on other hardware?
1) You can't "push" Sense UI in to android, you simply can't, you need a buid with Sense in it already.
2) There are no sense UI builds for WVGA, only HVGA and QVGA.

Yes I do, The phone hasn't released yet and is new.
I'm testing it, and are not allowed to tell what phone it is.
I can say it has 1Ghz snapdragon, 3.5 Inch screen and running Android 1.6 Donut WVGA.
2.0 Will be available as update.
xmoo. THIS is what you are testing. No question about it.
Acer Liquid
- runs on Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon CPU at 768 MHz
- WVGA touchscreen 800x480 pixel.
- Android 1.6 (aka Donut
- quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at either 900/1800/2100 MHz (European version) or 850/1900/2100 MHz (North American version
- WiFi b/g
- Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
- aGPS
- digital compass
- G-sensor
- light sensor.
So now that that is out let's get down to the real bitty shall we. Did you have a go at that Spinlets app? Is it better then Grooveshark?

I have rules to follow.
eind deze maand mag ik het zeggen aangezien eind dec de release datum is.
No it hasnt been released, the Sense UI relies on an HTC Framework.
Unless HTC release a version to run on WVGA device you are out of luck!
Hope that your enjoying your liquid! - Mine is due for delivery in the next week or so.

I was wondering if the EVO Rom will work on the HD2
No. flash it and you will end up with a paper weight. Totally different radio, camera and other insides.
No.
Different hardware. GSM vs CDMA.
Maybe there will eventually be an Android rom for the HD2...but not going to be the EVO's direct rom, somethings may get ported. We'll see.

Will this may not be the Evo Rom, but are very own xda development team is working on porting android to the HD2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
Since the G2 and the Desire Z are "technically" the same Phone...One major difference will be the bands.
Therefore, will it be possible, when Cyanogen creates a ROM for the G2, to use it on the Desire Z? Or will it not work because of the different bands?
N1 and desire are closer in hardware than the Z and the G2, but they still require specific roms.
So......no.

the g2 also has 4 gigs of internal memory (not ram)
vs the desire z's 1.5
it should be a quick cut and paste for a dev

What?
AFAIK, memory capacity and radio aside, they have the same internals.
I am not even sure a separate ROM would have to be written. Would the radios have different drivers?

Well, I think so...Because it's the same with the Motorola Droid and Motorola Milestone. Same device, only difference is the radio. And yet the ROMs for the droid will not work on the Milestone without modifying the drivers for the radio, etc...

well thats because CDMA roms won't work on GSM phons and visa versa, but since the Desire Z and G2 are both GSM they will work together....... The only thing i'm hoping for is that HSPA+ doesn't end up like Wimax where no custom roms can run it =(

g2/Z differences
Rom/ram/internalstorage/radio
n1/desire differences
rom/ram/touchkeys
Like I said n1/desire have more in common than the z/g2, it's not a huge difference, but they are closer siblings.

pretty sure HSPA+ isn't going to stop custom roms. even then we haz cyanogen to help us hack it
the G2 and the Z are the same phone, only difference is the ROM space(internal storage) and radio, they have the SAME RAM and other internals so as already stated they should work almost interchangeably but they may not, the only way we will know for sure is to get shipped ROM for both and flash to the other device(after root of course) since we already have the shipped build for the G2 and the ENG build for the G2 then we should be able to get root within a reasonable amount of time.
and since cyanogen is getting the phone we can expect CM development almost immediately

1. Rom shouldn't even matter...for custom ROMs anyway.
2. Ram is the same. Check HTC.com they both have 512mb.
3. Internal Storage == ROM...
So that really only leaves the radio which is different.
P.S.
Yes, the Phones are both GSM, but they still have different bands, which equals a completely different radio.
For Instance, a ROM for the Motorola Milestone from Brazil with the bands: 850 / 1900 / 2100
will not work on a Motorola Milestone from Germany with the bands: 900 / 2100...
Well...It will work...problem is that you won't have 3G
so is gunna end up kinda like how magic phones are 32a and 32b, or is gunna be like how dream roms work on magic phones............. ugh who cares there'll be more development for the g2 anyway... sorry desire z owners! =)
oh and how are you guys all senior members me want me want!!

Well...whatever changes Cyanogen does to his sources, they could easily be ported anyways by just replacing the correct libraries for the radio, etc.
I doubt it will be a problem.
does any one know the /system size of the g2?
and i wouldnt worry to much about HSPA+ the coverage for it isnt that good right now, so if there is any bugs with roms and hspa+ it will be fixed by the time hspa+ is up in your area.
And i dont know about the differences in the 2 phones. but i believe that it is something with the radio because that controls so much of the phone and the rom is more or less the software
i have HSPA+ in my area so i certainly hope that we can still use it with custom ROMs. cannot wait to get this phone
Heh.
3. Internal Storage == ROM
Believe me, if internal storage was really Read Only Memory people would be quite unhappy.

HTC Froyo will be released on the European version of the Aria next month. With it, should come the new kernel source. That would be the ideal time to start looking at more kernel enhancements.

I'd like to know the CPU requirements for adequate 720p recording. I believe that the Aria should have no problem recording in HD resolution as long as it's overclocked to 800+ Mhz. I don't completely understand why the 720p Camera app is unable to be ported to the Aria, but it seems the future is bright for this little device.

i found this webcam app http://ip-webcam.appspot.com/ that uses different video sizes for a web cam.
it outputs 176x144 up to 1280x720 at 15fps.
does this mean it would be possible with right kernel to eventually get 720p video recording
