Hi,
I am pretty new and my english is not so good, but as many of you I am getting angry with Samsung Omnia II OpenGL driver poor quality.
For those who doesnt know what is goin on:
Samsung is confusing consumers that Samsung Omnia II has 3D accelerator inside, but the true is that the OpenGL driver is written badly and than there are many slow 3D applications or no running applications due to this problem.
There are some gifted customers, that are trying to create running version of driver on their own, but Samsung is the one who should do some certified OpenGL drivers for any app on WinMo!
In my opinion the only way that Samsung will do something is to create an online petition and send this information to much forums as possible. This can notify an online magazines and online media. Than Samsung have to do something or they will loose new customers, current customers and their nice looking Samsung Omnia II marketing strategy wont help them.
Update:
Thanks to user deepower, there is petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/omnia2/
Help us make Samsung Omnia II better!
Original petition text:
Samsung is misleading its customers by saying that Omnia 2 has a 3D graphic accelerator chip inside, therefore graphic-intense games and apps run seemlessly.Up to some point this is true, but becouse Samsung has coded the driver badly for the accelerator chip, the very own software that Samsung created can't even truly benefit from the accelerator, as well as other third party software. This petition is for Samsung to get to work for a better Open GL driver.
Please note that you do NOT have to donate to sign our petition.

you're mistaken. there are proper opengl es 2 drivers. the open gl es 1 driver is just a wrapper for opengl es 2, so no wonder it doesnt work that well. learn open gl es 2 and it works properly.
Maybe... i'm only a "messenger and user" that opened this thread to get more signatures... I'm not familiarized with the exact problem regarding the opengl driver for i8000.

Um... In fact, I wouldn't call it proper. Seriously, Omnia's GL2 drivers are quite ugly themselves.

As an author of that wrapper, I should point out that there is an "official" (i.e., written by Samsung) GL1 driver included in Omnia 2 (I mean libGLESv1_CM.dll). The problem is, it simply doesn't work. I.e., at all. It worked on some earlier firmwares (around IG6 or IG7), but then suddenly stopped working.
And, even if it did work, it would be slow as hell. Me and Chainfire already tried using it, and abandoned the idea itself. Then again, Samsung abandoned it too.

"Properly" is simply not the word. There are a number of issues with GL2 drivers, and no sign of fixing them.
More to it, we don't have an ORION shader compiler available in an official SDK, nor does Omnia's GL2 driver has glShaderSource implemented. So, there's, in fact, NO official way to develop GL2 programs for Omnia 2.
I was asked to develop for this device from my employer; the driver is far too buggy and slow to be useful.
I'm not sure that Samsung would recognise a petition, but its at least interesting to see how many people were bitten by Samsungs buggy drivers.

Now that's interesting... Developers cant develop GL apps and games for this stupid phone because samsung is so f$%@!$g lazy. Thank you Samsung. This will be defenetly my last SAMSUNG STUPID f$%@!$g phone. Good for me that i'm selling it Sunday.
Thank you Ginkage and Chainfire for your hard work to repair Samsung's ****.
the petition wants me to pay to sign? Bah.
It is surprising that my HTC Dream can perform even better in 3D graphics then Omnia II. haha...maybe in the future we can get it fixed.

I totally agree with you man this damn iphone that every other bastard has is giving me the ****s e.g. "ohh hey there what apps have you got on your phone?" I mean no one even said "apps" before the iphone/pod, haha a tad off topic but Samsung should just get on with fixing thing BEFORE they sell them to people I mean what are beta testers for huh?
While I am upset that Samsung does this, I would like to point out that HTCdid the same to the Kaiser also.
Looks like the manufacturers will try to get away with any corners they can cut!
I am even more disappointed that review forums such as GSMArena did not pick up on this shortcoming! Afterall, we trust them more than the manufacturers! ;(

OP - you need to solicit owners of the Samsung Moment and the Spica as well - we're all in the same boat with the crappy samsung 2D/3D graphics OpenGL support.
a waste of money!
Hi all, today i have benchmarked 4 PDAs and OMNIA II so sadly was the slowest in some graphics tests
well, i am going to return my OMNIA II to electroworld tomorrow and going to buy a HTC HD2
Also i told all of my friends on social networks saying that " do not buy samsung products" i am paying a price of a laptop! i deserve better.
So, i kindly request all of my friends here to support me.
Spread this message to everyone.
Samsung has to do better.

I really hope HTC does something about this.
Same.
It's a bit pathetic really.
I was just about to buy this device next week, but knowing this I'm nor that sure anymore. I really hope they fix it, and (from the looks of HTCClassAction) they will
Is this because of the graphics accelerator? I thought htc were going to make a fix?
Uh. Impressive. What the hell's wrong with HTC? Being the "biggest" is good enough, so they don't give a ****?
A partial reason for me to buy the dual instead of the original Touch was because I wanted optimal ****** performance, and then it turns out that we've been royally ****** probably because they want to save money?
I have a stupid question ... possible some guys have ask it in the Kaiser Related Threads ... have some guys look around for other device, they use Qualcomm Chipsets? Possible they works with HTC?

it has nothing to do with qualcomm, phones from other manufacturers that use the same chipset work perfectly, the only problem here is HTC's collective laziness in writing a fully functioning driver

Yeah.. I think ASUS P525 uses qualcomm but it functions perfectly.
HTC has been getting away with this since the TyTN... so now they've been doing it on all of their succeeding devices.

Update January 20, 2008 #2: Another report has come on from that HTC support has said an update will be released January 28, no further details.
Update January 20, 2008 #3: One HTC support employee has stated that he guarantees they are working on fix for the video issues. It is unclear if by video issues only video playback is meant or the complete video driver package.
Another thread on Kaiser:

NICE! Too bad I was unaware of all these problems when I got my Touch Dual :\ it really is slow!
I also astonished how slow my Touch Dual is. I cannot believe that it takes to open a over 50 seconds to open 56 kb Word document. My Loox 720 PDA can open the same document in around less than 2 seconds. It certainly is not due to lack of free memory.
Word mobile is a business essential, not a multimedia toything and it should be capable of opening small documents quickly. The Loox is running WM2003SE and uses Pocket Word in which format the document is 115 kb. Is Word 6.1 slower than Pocket Word?
According to The Boy Genius Report, HTC isn't terribly interested in fixing the issue. This is the first response that has had any hint of officialness about it and it's not encouraging in the least.

An Android 3.0 library with non-final APIs
A new WXGA emulator skin for an extra large Android Virtual Device
New documentation for Android 3.0, including a complete API reference, new developer guides, and an API differences report between Android 3.0 and 2.3.

YES SIR!!
How about a please? Or wait until there's at least some semi-useful AOSP source available, the SDK build is not complete enough to be very useful. If you need to have a play with it, try using the VM in the SDK install.
From the 3.0 Platform highlights taken 'Android 3.0 is the first version of the platform designed to run on either single or multicore processor architectures.'
So I guess no need to leave the Tab behind !!! So I hope samsung will go ahead and deliver us this update!
Just one small story about Samsung, Tab, and Honeycomb...
About Samsung:
I hope that Samsung will port it for me so. Usually this is not normal in the real world, but Samsung will drop 2.3 for Galaxy S what is nowadays and old device, Galaxy Tab is newer and almost the first real, high quality Android tablet. This is clearly a tablet, what Honeycomb made for. The most sold Android phone is the Galaxy S and the most sold Android tablet the Galaxy Tab (with the totally agreements of problems about Samsung made this device before Google made the correct platform for it...), so nowadays the Samsung brand itself is very very strong and not just about the last years productions but these 2 products (real!)! So I think Samsung could make a 'small suicide' step if they forgot this device and forgot their users. They promised nothing, but could be a very negative echo about Samsung if they leave this device in the past, without any development.
About Honeycomb:
That is really not need hardcore hardware. The only real hw requirement is the strong video performance, but this is almost just for the new stock homescreen application. The lot full OpenGL handled screens and effects really need strong graphic performance, but Galaxy Tab in this case is not weak! For such situations the GFX performane is enought I think. The dual core CPU is just one very good addon, to make faster everything and make the device as one real device from the future, but for normal works the current hardware is enought. If Samsung dont want to overload the Tab then just need to leave out the new 'home'. For tabbed browsing the current RAM capacity is need to be enought. The device will not as fast as Xoom, but who care? Just leave out the needless plus features and give to the user the Honeycomb base with new browser, new gmail client, new settings, etc, etc... these are not power hungry things. One brand new device will better that Tab, but anyway we could use almost enything, and Samsung could make their brand more strong with hype and satisfied users of Tab as they do with Galaxy S.
Conclusions:
New Samsung devices? no problem, they will better, people will buy them, cause the new OLED screen, some new features, faster and harder hardware... but Tab could use Honeycomb as from this aspect it need nothing extra, and as a real tablet it need the OS what handle it in such way without any over glitches.
I hope Samsung will make a right decision, because there is no any real problem (nor technical nor business like) behind it!
Hi,
And please Samsung! Read my previous post!!!

You are completely true about this Samsung will push out the Tab2 in 16 days at the MWC2011 press event. If the tab is going to get the 3.0 its going to be the last update for the device. Also the Galaxy S is going to get its killing blow in 16days since the Galaxy S 2 is also comming out there.
Yes as you wrote, Samsung will drop the 2 new device to make new strong apperiance in the global market with the new devices, developments, etc... new user will buy them of course, some old user will sell the old products, and buy a new one but far from all. 2.3 for SGS will the latest as your wrote, and I hope that 3.0 will also the latest for SGT, its not bad, this is the only needed. With it Samsung will get strong user satisfactions, old users could boost the global brand loyality. I dont want Android 7.0 on these devices... theses versions is more then enought for this products, and this not sign that I will never buy a new Android device... more over... I will buy just not now (if Samsung leave me alone, I will never buy Samsung 'mobile' again, and this is true for lot of people), and if Samsung will go on this way I will buy one Samsung again... 6 month ago I hate Samsung with their software developments for SGS, now, currently, I like them, because they have enought power on software development to make themself one of the best. There are problems? where not? If Samsung could reach user satisfactions, with the current sw, hw developments they could be the largest company in this busines. The target is it, I think.
Just drop the new devices what will shine, if I were in situatuions to buy a new device, without hesitate I could buy them. There are lot of people in the word who just wait to these products... and there are some others as me, who bought the first device to simply satisfy, and we were those user who make stronger the reputation of Samsung. Is it problem to make me available Honeycomb? Don't thing so. But of course Samsung could use a wrong receipt, hope that will not!
YES I can taste the honeycomb anytime soon...
I wrote this article about the consequences of "Spoofing"...
Please read it...!
It would be nice, if this article could be translated into other languages and posted by other bada-portals...
THX in advance by Taxidriver05 form German bada-News-Blog badania.de.
(Maybe this post could be marked as "sticky"...)
Please...
Spoofing is NOT the reason why bada dies or is dead...
How many Apps/Games or other content is shared from Android and/or iPhone community?
Btw...
Why Flash Themes are much better protected as Apps?
DCF aka AES 128 is not broken for Themes...
Why Samsung share Fullcerts in bada SDK to sign Apps self ?
Remember... everywhere I can read NOT share private keys...
To prevent Security break...
Samsung Apps Store is hard to use...
Annoying Kies and Samsung Apps kona updates...
Then they are not able to handle certification process correct...
Remember Nxvigox or FEW other "jokes"...
Common, we have waiting very long... with maximum on patient...
With no Apps/Games bada is complete NOT attractiv for customers...
Not all customers can buy Apps for more then 5 Euro...
Also remember not all countries can buy...
Not all have credit cards...
Other pay method not ever work...
bada has many problems... more major problems then Spoofing.
bada Devs should ask Samsung about better protection of their Apps...
Hint... Flash Themes...
Best Regards
In some way you are right...
But you should take care about the fact how long Android and iOS are on market...
bada is quite young compared to thes OSes and should be pushed... Also by the community...
and spoofing is not an adequate method.

I completely agree with you.
The failure of bada OS is not going to be as a result of lack of customers,
but bada will surely fail as a result of Samsung's lack of support for the OS.
At times I wonder why we the customers are more eager for bada to grow and survive, more than Samsung themselves who pocket all the profits from the sales.
We have endured for so long. We have climbed to the highest heights of patience with bada OS. Maybe it's time now to start descending from these heights. Our patience is dying everyday. It's just a matter of time.

Unfortunately(?) I have to agree with you. Totally. I'm maybe harsh but in my opinion not allowing spoofing (or warez in any form) hurts Bada more than anything else... And I'm saying this by not having any warez on my phone. Why can android bloom even if all the apps are available as .apk everywhere? And it's the same with iOS. I'm pretty sure that Google and Apple would be able to lock down the apps, too, but they realized, that warez could drive the bussines. More apps -> more sold phones -> more profit (and more phones -> more users -> more sold apps so at the end even the developer gets more money..).
Of course it's just my 2 cents..
and think us who don't have paid samsung apps
Samsung doesn't really care about bada like you
I know this because i met Samsung employees & asked for their help several times but being a bada developer made them neglect me
Yes Samsung is too stupid in its way of support....if you don't have connections inside the company itself you may not get supported at all !!
And about Samsung Apps
Compare Samsung Apps to any other store.....
Even Android part is not that good in it
Samsung Apps was originally meant for bada but Android team wanted it too....
So now you can know who really get Samsung's support
About Spoofing
It is the way out for a user like me don't have a paid Samsung Apps till now
Yes it is planned next month...but you know Samsung's promises...
Spoofing is not killing bada....it is helping it to hold on or even keep its current users instead of going to another platform

http://developer.bada.com/article/Using-the-bada-Test-Kit
Btw... not realized before...
As I thought 1 App is limit...
But now bye bye Test Kid...
Chance to install more then 1 Sample App or self developed App,
without Samsungs Permission.
So 1 Dev not need Test Kid nor Samsungs Certification massaker...
Maybe then Filemanager or other usefull Tools possible. As App...
Best Regards
in my view, unfortunately, Bada is already dead
its pretty obvious by now that samsung wont be supporting/developing it in the future
maybe some more few firmwares with some bug corrections, but thats it
and spoofing had nothing to do with this
in fact, i think spoofing could only help the system to stay alive
one of the factors that made android a case of success, was the fact that the users could get most of the good apps for free (being it in a legitimate way or not)
no system will survive without a certain possiblity of hacking/piracy
I share my sympathy to all of you here. I too owned a Samsung Wave 1 phone before. It took me more than a year to believe the hope that Samsung will continue and develop Bada unto its peak since it fresh and young and it needs to cope up with what's already with today's other mobile platforms. I had enough already! I had my patience stretched with all the bad things given by our mates on the previous posts. But the patience eventually broke and decided I am worthy of the functionality I paid for. So sold my wave to my frustrations and I never been so happy in doing so after switching to android. Bada is good. But it has the least priority to Samsung. And that's the reason many hearts have been broken and wasted frustrations.
I do not hate Samsung. I hate how they handle Bada and how they fool the owners of Bada phones to but them. I own a Samsung android phone to date. But Samsung should not have released Samsung Bada from the first place. The way they handle its development is making themselves and especially their platform "Bada" shameful.
we, the people who bought bada phones are just the guinea pigs of a samsung experiment that failed
i bet a lot of people who bought a bada phone, especially the 1st wave (as is my case), thought the same as i did:
1) "wow.. such a great hardware for so little money" (i bought mine new for just 200 euros... unlocked!) "what a deal... hardware specs equal or better to an iphone, but at a quarter of the price"
2) "so it has a new OS... hmm.. its still in develpment and has room to grow... and with a big company like Samsung behind it..... hmmm... ill give it a try"
had samsung succeeded in developing the platform right, and today we would still have a killer phone
(imo, if my s8500 was an android or iOS phone, i wouldnt excahnge it for no other)
but unfortunately Samsung failed, leaving us with a great hardware piece of kit, but with no software to make really good use of it
Perfectly said!
will put more info on this later today and i will also update this periodically with other info as well. but i am attempting to contact asus and show that we really desire their support and help with this issue as we need these drivers to fully utilize our devices!!! these devices function perfectly well and we just need drivers.
UPDATE (10/2/17): Asus doesn't care and neither does Nvidia, so we are basically on our own. Only hope would be if someone could reverse engineer the drivers so we could make our own, but that would take a tremendous amount of effort and really doesn't seem like it would be worth it.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble but Asus abandoned these devices long ago. Latest Graphics blobs we have are for 4.2.1 and that's all we are going to get. The original Asus Nexus 7 tablet has slightly newer ones that could potentially be ported over but with the age of these tablets we were lucky to have someone as talented as timduru to be able to hack some of the blobs just to make the transformers work on newer versions of Android. Sadly you would be better off moving on to a device that's a little more current.

That isn't the point. Maybe we could go the route of porting the Nexus 7 drivers, but regardless, there is no reason whatsoever that Asus doesn't help us out as they claim to be "open source friendly" or what not.

Did you already receive any reply from Asus on your attempts. What do you think about to contact NVIDIA as well as the manufacturer of the processor and the graphic hardware? Please have a look at the NVIDIA site. Maybe you can find an access to trace the needed drivers there http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html.
