After Radio upgrade to 2.08 - HD2 regularly drops calls. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

Anyone seen this or am i missing something - last week i wanted to use a new ROM and in the notes one of the pre-requisites was to upgrade the radio to 2.08 which i did and it went fine but now when ever someone calls me during the first minute or so it will drop the call usually twice but sometimes more and then settle down and be ok - until someone calls again....anyone seen this?? + is there another newer rom for the radio available (i had seen someone mention 2.10 but i cant find it.)
Thanks to anyone that chip's in.....

i have experiens the same wiht the 2.08.50.08_2 now i use the 2.06.51.07 on dutty's nld rom v 2.1 ,the 2.8 radio just cut the connextion wile caling full signal do but got disconexted now radio 2.06 is working fine

Radio ROMs call dropping pb confirmation
Both Leo_RADIO_2.07.50.27_2 and Leo_Radio_2.08.50.08_2 drops outgoing call when the other party accepts the call. When u redial the connection establishes and everything is working. Each call costs you one additional connection fee.
I tried to flash back older rom versions and everything worked fine. This problem may be related to the roms as well because everything was fine with older miri releases (I'am using only miri roms as they are the best for me). It seem to me that this problem appeared only with the latest cooked roms.
So what can cause this behaviour on the OS side?
* update
now it doesn't depend on the radio or rom version, my hd2 drops outgoing calls after connection always
pls help!

Bummer - is there any point in upgrading - may as well leave my radio as it is....

2.07.51_05 works very well for me. Stable for long calls, and on receive or making them. Also good for battery and my best for reception in UK. It was the only radio that would give decent T-mobile UK signal, and even improved O2 signal...but did less for O2 than T-mob.

radio 2.06 is the most stable for me. every 2.07+ radio with 576 mb ram hack, was performing poorly and not usable.

are you sure that is the radio and not the 576mb?

Out here in Singapore, I have had no such bad experience with any of the 2.06, 2.07 or 2.08 radios, although 2.08 volume is quite low when compared to the other two. My call did not even drop in a train tunnel

I have stock ROM with Radio 2.04, and am having dropped calls both incoming and outgoing. But it only happens with some numbers, while other numbers work OK. During drop, the phone freezes/hangs for 1-2 minutes...

Did you hard reset after installing 2.08. I wound up doing that for other reasons and it had the helpful side effect of greatly improving the call volume on my 2.08 radio'ed HD2. /P

Does your Trinity/Dopod drop calls regularly?

My Dopod D810 from 3 drops calls regularly.
I think every single call will drop out after about 1-2 minutes. I also notice that when my phone is 'warm' from charging or other uses, the call can drop as quickly as 10 seconds into the call.
Initially it was suggested that the drop outs were due to my Phone > Band selection being set to 'Auto' but I have since changed this to Network Type=WCDMA and GSM/UMTS band=UMTS(2100+800).
But now I'm more inclined to think it has something to do with the device's temperature....
Any other ideas other than taking it back to 3?
Try changing the Radio ROM.
I had a similar problem after changing my Radio ROM from 1.41.00.11 to 1.46.00.11. Now I`m using 1.46.30.11 version and everything is OK. I even noticed a GPS signal level improvement.
I have the similar problem too. I m with 3 Australia. Upgraded to WM6 official ROM, still observing if call drop still happened.
If not, will take back for warranty repair
I am using a HTC-branded P3600 with the official HTC GPS-enabled WM5 ROM on the Vodafone UK network. With reasonable approximation I can say that I have 0 dropped calls (including calls made or received while in car).
My network type and band selections are both "auto".
Sometimes I make calls while the phone is charging via USB from a laptop (which makes it rather warm) but I haven't noticed any dropped calls in that situation either.

Excellent idea. I'm currently using Radio version: 1.35.00.11...if I go to 1.4x - are these compatible with WM5?

I`m using a WM5 LVSW edition. Used it with 1.41.00.11 for 3 months without problems, changed to 1.46.00.11 for 2 days and encountered call drop issue, changed to 1.46.30.11 and not even a problem so far.
I am using my trinity with 1.41 and WM6 (AX3L) and I really never drop a call unless I step into an elevator. I am usually on UMTS or HSDPA living here in NYC and cannot complain about my service nor the phone.

Thanks for all the replies. Went ahead and upgraded ROM and Radio version to 3.00.707.16 and 1.46.30.11, respectively.
So far, no problems with call dropouts but I haven't made many long calls on it over the last 2 days but will keep assessing.
On the previous incarnation, I had also installed/uninstalled a LOT of programs over the 6 weeks I had had the phone so perhaps that contributed to the phone's instability too...
For me, it kinda worked the other way around...
I never experienced any call droppouts when I still had the original WM5 ROM with radio version 1.33.30.10 on my Dopod D810. (I'm with 3 in Australia)
After upgrading to the ANZ WM6 ROM with radio version 1.46.30.11, I can sometimes not even establish a connection as the call is dropped after the first ring or so. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 time to finish the conversation...
Is anybody else having similar issues AFTER upgrading?
Hi guys,
good to see that i'm not the only one that have call drop regularly.
Well, in fact, those are not always call drops.
Sometimes i miss calls and some other times, when i want to make a call, i see that my trinity's loosing the signal and starts to search for networks. Then i have to switch off the phone through the Connection Manager, then turn it on again so that i can make phone calls.
Are you experiencing the same on your device?
I'm still using Radio ROM 1.38.00.11
Do you guys have a link where to download the latest Radio ROM so that i can try it on my Trinity?
Thanks.

Yep, I experience drops after upgrading... But the strange thing is... even after downgrading to the shipped rom... still drops... ARRGHHHHHH
I'm just going to try another rom I think... not sure yet. Have switched my band from auto to fixed. First gonna see what happens.
Some said it is due to 3G/3.5G trying to establish a data connection (most likely for push mail) and in doing so the phone function is disabled. I did not verify this claim.
If anyone wants to test it, you might want to try:
1. disabling 3G and 3.5G
2. disabling data connection
and tell us the results!

I will disable HSDPA. But I cannot disable my data connection because that's THE reason I bought my device for (using it for pushmail but I can use that with UMTS/GPRS connection also, don't need HSDPA for it).
I have found if I have network on AUTO i cant make calls, phone call drops straight away.
Switching to GSM allows me to make calls, but then I have no 3G
Found that radio rom 1.46.00.11 has no calls dropping for me. So I'm gonna stick with that one.
Cheers.

I have this ROM actually installed in my Trinity, and i still have call drops regularly
Once more today, it started to ring, then lost signal.
I'm wondering how much people has the same issue.
I used to have the same problem. I've reflashed my phone so many times coz of that.
But it seems like my problem's finally fixed
I'm using the most updated PDAVIET wm6 rom with Radio: 1.50.08.11
Been using that for about 2 weeks, haven't had a call drop since.
However I have had a few hangs here and there.
I run a lot of apps so the memory is pretty low most of the time. Yet for some reason I'm not getting any call drops so I'm happy. (Finally able to talk for like 15 mins without breaking up)
just fyi i'm also with 3, and don't have that band setting since I luv HSDPA yet certain areas only got Telstra reception...
Calls drop out
Hi, I'm in Sydney with 3 and haven't had any problems at all with the shipped WM5. After upgrading to the latest official WM6 ROM version 3.00.707.18 from the Dopd site things went bad with phone calls and weak signals.
Now upgraded the Radio to version 1.50.08.11 and everything's back to how it 's supposed to be.
Cheers and good luck.

Signal is AWFULL! (When Handled)

I've copied this from the Vodafone (UK) forum - but I don't seem to be the only one with a proble... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I've had my HD2 for just a few days now and I can honestly say that unless something is sorted soon I won't be using it much longer! I have exactly the same problem in both DT1 and BH20 post codes. Singal is good and strong when the device is left on a desk/table etc... I can have FULL signal but lift the device up and it drops to 3, 2, 1 and then no signal...
I can make perfect phone calls using hands free, but can't even send or recieve a text if I pick the phone up. We're talking less than 24" of movement here so it has to be device related!
Comparing this to the HTC Diamond. The Diamond although showing slightly less signal (2-3bars) is much more stable and non-reactive to being handled.
I'm using the very latest updates with HSDPA/HSUPA disabled.
It would seem that HTC has dropped the ball here.
(HSPL - ROM 1.66)
Vodafone thread - http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=48152&st=0
I replied to your post in the Vodafone forum assuming you were still on the stock 1.43 ROM, but if you are on 1.66 then I am not sure what to suggest as you mentioned that it happens in multiple areas which seem to be a fair way apart and therefore would be on different transmitters (unless you are unfortunate enough to be in several areas all suffering from faulty cell-towers).
I know mine drops a bar when I pick it up but not 2 to 3 and then to no signal...
Maybe you should contact HTC about a replacement? Dont bother with Vodafone as they'll offer you a Blackberry 9700 if they cant fix it...
SOunds faulty to me. There is sometimes a small drop in signal for me when the phoe is cupped in my hand, but not more than 1 bar, usually none.
I'd get on to your provider for a warranty replacement.
Nothing such here. And I'm in a low reception place here, seems it even does better than my previous Kaiser.
Seems that Vodafone is a bit of a crappy network in terms of its compatibility with phones! If it's not text messages staying in the outbox it's data disconnecting/not working and no picture messaging NOW rubbish signal....jeez. I've been on T-Mobile with the HD2 since it arrived in november and haven't had one single problem with texts, data, signal....anything. I've had two different handsets in that time too since I sold the first upgrade.
In all seriousness though I do also have a prototype pro.three (pre-release HD2) and that suffers from low signal/signal dropout so in this instance it seems that you have a faulty unit.
I do hear a lot of moaning Voda users on these forums though which makes me quite likely to steer clear when I get my upgrade in a few weeks.

It doesn't look like its JUST my phone here...
Outside this problem is not half as bad.
Lots of people across the world are having problems with the SMS thing.
Its also not limited to the HD2 handset as I had it on Kaiser when I updated that handset to WM6.5

signal reception seems better (vodafone) however a few including me have an isue of static noise when someone speaks. I have this on 2.07 and 2.08 radios - not sure if its network related. I'm using a custom rom, and have no choise but to use 2.07 or higher, unless i revert back to a previous rom.

If you can flash ROMs try Leo Lite V2.2 WWE with the 2.08.50.08_2 radio.
I'm in a very patchy area and behind solar glass and the above setup gives me signal strength and stability better than any other ROM/radio combo or phone I have ever had. This includes many other HTC and Nokia phones.
I never seem to miss a call now and the SMS problemis gone although I believe that is partly to do with the cooked ROM setup.
Also I can pull in H and 3G signals that I could not before.

Does the ROM actually play any part in this though or is it just the RADIO upgrade? I've just gone over to 2.08 but using the stock HTC 1.66 ROM
have you checked that the battery cover is on correctly? there are to prongs on the inside of it that make it part of the arial

The Rom affects the sms issue (I believe) and my current LeoLite ROM (now 2.3) shows no sms problem and sits well with the radio I mentioned as it unlocks the extra memory.
Addendum
There is a link with ROM and radio through the rilphone.dll that is cooked in to the ROMs.
e.g. The correct rilphone for T-mobileUK will assist in accessing the T-mobile network with the correct protocols required for the services on that network. And same would go for all other operators (who may or may not have their own rilphone file configured to their requirements). I am unaware of any signature that would differentiate between the files, however, it's safe to assume that a rilphone.dll extracted from a stock T-mobileUK ROM would be the appropriate one for their network access.
I haven't seen a lot of experimentation on this although I have tried out various files on the ROMs I have flashed without any real conclusion emerging.
The combination that I mention is just a solid setup that works well for me on my operators network in my location.

Fixed some instability on my HD2

Just thought I would share my experiences to see if it benefitted others.
I have a Vodafone UK HD2 which came with 1.43ROM.
I used HSPL1 and extracted the NBH from the official WWE 1.66ROM and applied that to my handset and I've tried a couple of radio's and am now on 2.09.51
With the above setup I was getting quite a bit of instability still where I would sometimes have to reset the phone a couple of times a day. Calls would sometimes crash the phone, etc it just seemed buggy and instable but just about useable.
Then I saw HSPL2 and didnt think much of it until the other day when I started to look at it and noticed you could pick different HSPL's and spotted 1.66 in the list. Brain says to me you've got 1.66ROM and 1.42SPL. Back on the Kaiser the wrong SPL with a ROM could make it unstable... I wonder...
So I proceeded to install HSPL2 and selected 1.66HSPL option. Since then (2 1/2 days) my phone has been stable, quick and has not needed a reboot except for once with the data dropout issue (which I reckon is Windows/SenseUI App related).
Also battery life seems to have been extended as well.
Its like a completely different handset to me as I was started to get frustrated with it before this but now I am happy again.
Any comments are welcome.
Hi,
It's Darrin from the VF forum, interested to try the 1.66 HSPL, can you plop it ontop of the the existing one, or do you have to re-install everything from scratch?
Any chance you can point me in the right direction?
Cheers

sounds interesting thanks for the post starfury
makes sense aswell
at the end of the day youve always been booting a phone with a 1.66 system with a bootloader made for a different system.
i would try this right now but im using my warranty rights for an exchange atm but will try soon =]
thanks!

yes you can change spl and it won't affect your rom. download hspl 2 from rom development section, run it as administrator and choose which spl to instal.(choose one with hspl not 0000 of course)
I've been running without HSDPA for a little bit and recently switched it back on and the device locked up twice in a matter of hours. Switched it off again and its fine again.
I cant imagine that Vodafone UK havent implemented HSDPA properly so maybe there is an issue with the HSDPA protocol in the firmware?

[Q] .50 Radios on stock 1.66?

Right since this place has gone android crazy over the last few months, I thought I'd give it a go. Went through all the instructions, updated hspl to 2.08 updated radio to greater than 2.08. Ran android, boot screen shows all the boot up text then melts away into two lines, then....nothing (left it half hour just black screen and green flashing led). Anyway, reading though the 19900 posts on android I stumbled upon a post saying that to run android you need to flash a .50 radio not .51 What I want to know is as I am using the wwe stock 1.66 can I flash a .50 radio with no ill effects or will I have to flash a new rom as well?
If it means flashing a new rom then I'll just stick with WM as I've got my phone running nicely and haven't needed to mess about with it at all (to get it working!) for months
You can flash the Radio ROM only. As you are not using a TMOUS HD2 then there is no problem with bricking your phone.
I am currently using the 1.66WWE ROM and 2.10.50.08_2 Radio ROM.
I don't know how well this works with Android, as I like WinMo.

Ok cheers for that, will give it a go. Won't be using android as a day to day option, just want to try it out see what all the fuss is about.
Be careful: I tried THAT already (updating my radio on my 1.66-ROM Radio 2.06.51.07) to run Android but found out that all upper radios 2.08 and higher) from the radio-thread do partially not work on my HD2 (some of the basic functions Phone/WiFi/Wireless Router/HSPA etc. didn´t work anymore after upgrading).
So after flashing new radio CHECK EVERY function of radio if it´s working as before.
I had to go back to 2.06.51 to get my smooth running of my HD2 again with all Radio features working flawless.

Got to admit after flashing 2.09.51 yesterday it actually improved things, got hsdpa at home (4 bars as well) never had anything other than gprs as I live in an old quarry, lowest it has dropped to is 2bars of 3g so as far as dial up connectivity is am better off. Not had other issues with wifi, phone or messaging either, not tried bluetooth or wifi router yet but would assume that they are fine also. Obviously if things do start going ary I'll flash the original back
BTW android now boots and runs like lightining!
So I give it a last chance. Didn´t try 2.09.51 (goofed the line and thought it´s for TMOUS). Tx for the tip
Did You change rilphone.dll and if yes to which version ?

Hi djingonthenet,
Can you confirm you have flashed the radio to 2.09.51 and not 2.09.50? Any issue observed so far?
I have the same configuration as your HD2 and would like to try the Andriod but worry that the radio may cause unknow issue to my HD2, eg phone,3g, or wifi, etc.
