Hi all,
I am having trouble with my Gmail app. I am able to receive mail however when I try to send, I get the message "sending".... but it stays there and never sends..
I have tried on both 3G and Wi-Fi to no avail and the obvious things like reboot.
I am on CM 5.0.4.1.
Any help would be appreciated.
Never mind. Found fix for the issue in the CM thread.

Have you tried going into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Select "Filter" - Show ALL apps - Browse to GMAIL & GMAIL Storage - Clear data for both.

The fix is what daveid posted... this is a well-known occurrence from the days of the G1.
Yes, Daveid's solution worked for me. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
Recently, my GMAIL stopped auto-receiving mail and will not update until I manually sync it.
It was working fine until yesterday evening.
Any idea how to fix this?

Did you change any settings? I know it doesn't sync as fast anymore when one has the "undo" function enabled, found under gmail settings. GL
I was having the same issue and addidng to that was that I was not receiving all the email. It showed that there were new emails but those were not always appering. Fixed it by wiping data with Titanium.

To my knowledge, I didn't change any settings. Looking at the feedback in the market, I noticed that some of the other more recent comments show the same issue.
I think it was Gmail, not your phone. I had the same problem today. Then I got a bunch of emails all at once.
I'm having the same issue today as well. Probably a server issue.
+1 here, very annoying!
looks like this is a google server issue and they are looking into it:

It appears that Google has fixed this as of 6pm eastern
Is anyone else's stock gmail not sending emails? I receive them just fine, but to forward or compose new sticks in sending
Am I the only one with this issue?
Go into settings, applications, manage applications, Gmail, then click on clear data. You may also try rebooting after that.

Woohoo, glad I could help.
ICS + Gmail = sync failure.
@ mainevent3405 thanks, it worked for me too.... the problem started for me after trying to send a large email 20mb. Anyone else have the problem after a large email or did something else cause it. I was actually able to replicate the problem after I tried to send the email again.
Ever since I upgraded my Xoom to 3.1 the gmail emails are no longer pushed to me (I checked the setting, they're all correct). I have to go inside the app and hit refresh!
Has anyone else noticed this issue?
Works perfectly for me.

it works also perfectly for me. Lots of ebay e-mails coming up!
Add me to the "works perfectly" list for both my Xooms.
That said I've had ROM updates for my phone do this where i had to go back into accounts and settings and clear/recheck the sync button.
works well for me too.
What you can do, is to try go to apps in settings, and clear gmail data then it will refresh and reload again.
Hopefully that will solve.

No problems here. Maybe try "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache" from Settings > Applications > Manage Application for Gmail, then reboot.

had the same issue - that fixed it on my Xoom, too.
I"m a little late to the party... But mine works BETTER after the update.
When I leave work I walk near a restaurant that has free WiFi (and I've been there a couple times before), probably 100-150 ft away from their building.... I hear my email notification.
Never was that good before the udpate, lol

Thx, that did the trick to me
Also had this problem, clearing cache & data fixed the issue for me as well (replying to bump this in case others have the problem)
edit:
I see people down-starring this thread, and I'm not sure why. This sounds to be a common problem.
I was on stock 3g model, received update via the official OTA channels, and had this problem.
Thanks
Thanks, I was having the same problem and was going to format my Xoom but this fixed my gmail issues.
Has anyone else noted that this "fix" only lasts a few days at the most? I have to clear the data for the gmail app every couple of days to keep getting email.

Same here, and email is 75% of the reason I wanted this thing. I don't care, though. Selling the Xoom and waiting for them to perfect this android thing (or just find a Win7 tab...). Anyone looking for a no-contract 3g? PM me.

I only need to clear data and cache for Gmail after flashing a new kernel (or ROM on my Incredible). Don't have any problem with Gmail push any other time.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I haven't had any problems with gmail push.
Are you all rooted, who have problems? Maybe the custom kernel has something to do with it?
I have the same problem both before and after 3.1 update on stock. I would love to see this issue resolved.
No problems w/Gmail here. Rooted, 3.1, 1.4.4 kernel.
Hi all,
This is my first post here, so please bear with me. I'm running CM7 stable and tiamat 4.0.1 currently.
I'm have two main problems:
1) Gmail sync. I've tried most of the tips I've seen on this forum and others about clearing the cache, resyncing my Google account and re-installing the app. They all amount to temporary solutions as my phone just doesn't seem to sync with my Gmail account. From what I remember, wasn't there some sort of setting in either "Accounts & Sync" or the actual Gmail app itself that lets the user determine sync frequency?
2) WhatsApp push notifications. I received a message at 12:22AM and did not get a push notification until 7:22AM. I've poked around in the settings as best I could and don't see anything about sync or even push notifications beyond the basic pop-up and style settings.
Aside from Spotify, these apps are the two I use most on my phone. I've searched tirelessly for the past 2 days for a solution to this problem to no avail. Any and all help/recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No, Gmail syncs with push automatically, there is no setting to change this.
As for your problem, it could be one of two things. One, could be a bad signal or 3g outages in your area. How is your signal all day at home/work? Does this same problem happen on wifi? The second possible problem is it's just a problem with your rom/kernal. You could try flashing back to a stock from for a few days and see if it clears up the problem.
My signal has been consistent since rooting.
I haven't tested it out while on WiFi; I'll give it a look when I get to my home network, but if that's the case, is it indicative of a problem I could address that would make my Gmail sync over 3G?
And seeing as how I'm still very new to all of this, is there a specific Stock ROM/Kernel combination that you would recommend in terms of stability/reliability? I tend to get really lost and confused with all the posted ROMs.

Hey guys, I have a bit of an issue here. I've had issues recently with Gmail syncing so I went in and cleared out the application data to get to sync again, which worked. But now any e-mail, where the from field has 's in it, like Papa John's. It instead is showing Papa John's. I've tried clearing cache and dalvik cache on my device and clearing the application data from gmail again but it still shows up. Of course the from field shows up fine on gmail.com. I'm on the Gingerbread stock ROM from x99. Trying to see if anyone has any options before I do a factory reset, thanks .

Have you updated to the newest GMail app? There is a 2.3.5.2 GMail app. I'm not sure if this would work on the stock Gingerbread ROM though.
Yup already on the latest version of gmail.

Go to manage applications -> gmail -> force stop -> clear cache and reopen gmail.
Also try changing the sync time from 4 days to 3 days and run a sync from acounts -> sync -> google -> menu -> "sync now".
If that doesn't work, force stop again, clear cache and clear data and try.
If that doesn't work try running fix permissions from ROM Manager. If that doesn't work try uninstalling and reinstalling GMail.
If that doesn't work try installing the old 2.3.5 version.
I've had it where I was on a call and hit send on an email and gmail would get stuck on "sending.." for that message and couldn't do anything with it. First 2 steps was the only real way to get around it. I wasn't even able to open the message in my outbox and save it as a draft.
Let me know if that helps.
Well I tried all of your suggestions man and still the same thing is happening. I even went as far as to do a factory reset and setup my gmail account and the same thing happened. At this point I'm thinking it must not have anything to do with my phone huh?

Probably. Could you please describe the problem more? Is the phone not adding 's after certain words? screen shot? something?
Well the only place that the 's isn't showing up correctly is in the From field. Everywhere else in the e-mail it'll show up fine. And the only e-mails I get so far with 's in the from field is Papa John's or Wendy's. So instead they'll show up as Papa John's or Wendy's. And when you click on the e-mail, where the from shows up in green it'll look the same.

Hey VICODAN, actually don't worry about it man. I found a thread on the google mobile help forums and it seems google is looking into the issue.

There's a link that explains what it looks like, but like I said don't worry about it, thanks for your assistance .

Lol, yea it's not exactly a make or break situation for me but I hadn't seen anywhere else about it until I saw that
