Hi!
One of the most annoying things after a flash/HR is re-setting up my e-mail-accounts. So I'm searching a way to backup only SMTP and IMAP/POP-server, usernames, passwords SSL-settings and send/recieve-schedules. The mails do not have to be saved in the backup because I'm using IMAP only. Has anybody of you out there a good and simple solution to backup these settings?
I tried SK-tools but I think this program backups "too much" for my taste. I'm not a friend of solutions like Sprite-/SPB-Backup.
I'd be really very grateful for any help!! THX in advance!!

Try Sashimi. You can use this tool for more then only mail. You can make xml's with all the settings. After a hard reset import the xmls with sashimi and done. One tip dont put the password in the xml beacuse its plain text. So when you loose youre telephone they have your password. If you put the password in the xml first time you will sync windows will ask it and give it and enable "save password". When you are usign shashimi you can also use it to install your programs. Copy files. etc
And if you want to go further you can also use it to backup files before a flash.
Hi. Thanks for your tip. I read about SASHIMI yesterday for the last time and I was about to try it anyway. Thanks again.

Hi, can anyone tell me how to save text messages to a SD card because I want to upgrade but dont want to delete the text messages. I dont want to use Sprite Backup.
Hi,
Your text messages are saved on your device in 'cemail.vol' file, backup this file to ur sd, then recopy it to the device after hard reset.
Good Luck
Mohammad
Thank you for your respond.

I have the same problem. Any idea how to get around this?

Another way is to get Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook. This app will sync the text messages into an Outlook folder and then allow you to restore them to the PPC after a hard reset.
As you may know, you can assign a custom ringtone to a contact. However, this field does not appear in Outlook.
Everytime I upgrade my TyTN I have to painstakingly re-assign all the custom ringtones again! Very frustrating...
Is there a way to get round this? Thanks for any help in advance.
I'm guessing a backup only,
but if anyone knows how to assign ringtones/pics in outlook and then sync them with the phone please do tell
Still noone has found a solution to this?
I had the same problem and finally solved it with Mortring http://mort.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&action=view&entry=63. When finished assingning the custom sounds with Mortring, backup the contacts.dat file from installed directory and restore if afterwards.
works for me!
cheers,

Thanks for the tip. You da man!
another method for custom ringtones/sounds back up
I have found that backing up the pim.vol file from the phone (copy to SD, HR, rename the new pim.vol and than copy from SD the file + SR is working better.
The method backs up your contacts, calendar, ringtones and call hystory (at least) and it does not create duplicates if you resysnc with x-change server.
It had been described more detailed a couple of times around here.
cheers,
dan
So, nearly 4 years on (it's amazing how quickly time passes) and I still can't find a decent wireless way to do this.
Is there somewhere in the notes or extra details fields in Gmail/My Contacts to store Ringtone information? That way I can backup with Google Sync/MS Exchange.
Anyone?
Still no solution to this? ;(
I have solution.
Search in market Ringtone Keeper (or ringtone backup) and you have what we need.
I`m author, the suggestions and comments are welcome.
Hello all. I am going to update my ROM, but have a quick question. My work email and calendar sync to my Mogul. Originally my works IT department had to install a certificate so I could sync. When I install the new ROM, I am betting this certificate will go away.
Is there anyway to backup the Certificates so I can reinstall them myself? I am not supposed to be on the exchange server per some stupid/outdated company policy but had a friend put me in there. I would like to not have to go back to IT as I don’t want to get anyone in trouble.
Thanks for the help.
I've exported HKCU\Comm\Security\SystemCertificates\.... into a cabfile and use this one after every new rom i'm flashing
and it's working very well.
If you export into reg-file and edit this file with an hex-editor you'll find your exchange certificate for sure. and under HKCU\Software\microsoft\ActiveSync you can find your Exchange settings (servername etc). after flashing a new rom the only thing i have to do is to enter my password and that's it....if you're unsure, you could try to import into an wince emulator and test if it's working the way you want....

you could use dotfred's taskmanager for example (for PPC) or CERegeditor (for Windows Desktop) to export or import the registryentries.
Both tools are for free. Another solution could be SASHIMI which can also import registry files. Or you could create your own Mortscript, both are also for free.
if your ROM is supporting UC there is also a section for exchange (somewhere in the thread)
If you want to create a cab, WinCECabManager is easy, but not free.

HI Peter,
I tried exporting those reg keys out and after flashing my rom I managed to reimport them.
When I checked the certificates in Settings, they seem to be there. Checked Activesync settings, it is also there, however, when tried to sync, got this error
"The Microsoft Exchange Server requires a personal certificate to log on. Please obtain a certificate as directed by your corporation or service provider"
There was no option to key in password.
I had to re-enroll for a certificate going through my PC's WMDevice Center before able to sync with my Exchange server again.
So ... wonder whether I am still missing something that prevents me from restoring the certificates completely. Are there any physical certificate files that I need to back up as well ?
cheers

Bumpdibump, the same with me - although this is regarding a transfer from Rose to Polaris - this is the best post I have found so far...
Any luck on some specific files we need to copy in addition to the registry?
so i assume that the .cer used for the exchange server is no longer on the phone?

I don't quite remember what happened, but for my part - not sure if the cer file was there, but it didn't help much anyway since whatever cer file I tried to validate with didn't work. I am looking into a different thread using rapiconfig to get the details from my phone, but I guess it ain't enough to only get the info from registry to get the darn thing to work.
Stuck...
Hi there
I am planning to to flash the hard SPL followed by Duttys ROM for the firt time so can someone explain the easiest and foolproof way to backup everythingfiles, photos, videos). I have tried to download Pim backup 2.8 but when i try to install from Total comander nothing happens.
Any help appreciated
PIMBackup should be a cab and all you need to do is double click is from your device (I think but its been a long time since I installed it as it remains on my SD).
Not sure there is a best answer.
Myself I use Pimback up of SMS and call logs.
Outlook for contacts and calendar.
Pics are sent to SD card so I always have them.
E-mail I use on my PC and not on my devices so I don't have that problem.
There are a few backup applications (SPB, Sprite) that allow you to restore after a rom flash. My theory is a new rom will have new seetings, reg keys and files, so I don't like the idea of restoring stuff I don't understamd.
Thus I go for the data only and flash clean.
It helps that I use Sashimi to reinstall my apps thus its prity much automamted.
Hope that helps
Hi guys, I've searched the forum without results... to find a way save email settings (multiple accounts) in order to save time whn flashin a new rom.

GUID?
Noob question I know... but how do I identify the GUID value for my HD2?
