Hi, can anyone tell me how to save text messages to a SD card because I want to upgrade but dont want to delete the text messages. I dont want to use Sprite Backup.
Hi,
Your text messages are saved on your device in 'cemail.vol' file, backup this file to ur sd, then recopy it to the device after hard reset.
Good Luck
Mohammad
Thank you for your respond.

Another way is to get Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook. This app will sync the text messages into an Outlook folder and then allow you to restore them to the PPC after a hard reset.

Hi
While im waiting for my universal to arrive (need to wait for 7th of november :-() i have been rading though this forum.
I was just wondering, now that it seems like ringtones for contacts has been integrated into the contact software, is this a HTC implementation or is it a microsoft? would the the selection sync to outlook 2003 so i wont have to set it up everytime i hard reset?

ive not tried contact ringers, but i do use the contact pictures, which does sync with oulook 2003, i shall experiment with ringers shortly
As far as I can see it does NOT sync the ringers with outlook. But maybe I am wrong.
After a hard reset I had to do them all manually.
If there is a solution for this I would be greatful.
Maybe the contacts database on the Jasjar can be backed up?

Just as i thought :-(
anyone knows if the ringetones support is integrated into wm5 or is it a htc add on?

you can store your ringtones on the root of your sd card....and can assign them to your contacts etc....thats a sly trick
so, you can preserve space on your device root....

And you think, after a hard reset, Outlook Mobile finds the ringtones where they were if they are on the storage card? Or better said: is the relation with the location synchronised/stored in the main outlook file?
When I search the Outlook fields on my PC I cannot find any field containing this information.
It is however a good advice to store them on your card because they take pretty much space.
I had the same problem on my Nokia 9500.

Ringtones on Storage Card
I used to put my rings (wma/mp3/wav) in the storage card. A problem I faced was that the Universal would sometimes need more than 5-10 seconds to wake-up/read the ring tone/play it/show the incoming-call-box.
I moved all the tones in my windows/rings folder and it is all okay now. I believe my MMC card is slow or may be it takes too much time after waking-up to power the card and read from it.
The tones are converted to smaller versions, so a 30secs ring i no more than 200-400k with good quality.

here's how u can manually back up ur pim info....
1. use the built in file explorer (u cant use resco etc.)
2. choose show all files
3. go to device root, and copy "pim.vol"
4. paste it on to ur storage card....
to restore,
copy it back the same way using file explorer....
hope this helps!

Hi Guys
I backed up the Windows\messaging folder on my device, so save the sms on the phone.
I did a hard reset, and copied the files back over to exactly the same location, but its not reading any of the sms?
Any idea why this is?
Thanks in advance
should've used Jeyo Outlook Extender

Hi, thanks!
It installs ok but when I run it, it gives me an error message 'You cannot run this program on this device'
I guess it's only meant for Atom Exec. I'm trying to run it on Atom.
Anyone have any idea how to backup SMS on WM5 devices? I used to use Jeyo Mobile Companion 1.1 on WM2003SE and it works very well but it is not compatible with WM5. Anyone have any other software? SPB backup & Sprite backup, does a 'full' SMS/email backup and they are not able to restore individual SMS. Looking for one that can backup automatically and can restore individual SMS, that would be great!
Thanks!

Try Jeyo Mobile Extender for MS Outlook 2003. This is a PC program, that will be "embeded" into MS Outlook and will synchronize your SMSs like a mail folder in your MS Outlook through Activesync.
I use this program to backup and restore SMS... It was for Dopod 818 on WM2003, but works without problems on WM5 and Atom... You just have to create a folder called "Storage" or "Storage Card", then backup your sms there by choosing the path inside the program... Then you can move the .sms file that was created where you want to keep it safe, and copy it back into one of the two folders I wrote before when you want to restore your messages.
Yup, it's working

Jeyo Mobile Extender 2.0 for Outlook
Dear Appu
Jeyo Mobile extender is an ad on to Microsoft Outlook and it syncs the SMS folder into the outlook. So even if you have a hard reset it will be in the outlook for u to sync back the SMS folder into your ppc. Works for WM05 and i'm using an Atom. , only thing missing is MMS to be backed up.
check it out. psst this is a secret almost everyone know.. the crack is also available theheheeheh.
check this out for more info on jeyo http://www.jeyo.com/index.asp
cheers
nope sultan.. it doesnt bak up folders i've created.. folders which can be created wen i want under the inbox folder... only jeyo sms backup which comes with the atom exec rom has been able to do it for me yet.. but it doesnt work on the regular atom rom.. and cant even use the exec rom coz of its grafics driver somehow gettin reseted with drain of battery or, removing the battery.. :?
Nice program. Got all my incoming messages fine, but all sent items are blank?
It's also mostly in a language I don't have fonts for I think! Lots of squares on the screen! Still, simple to use - menu is in English (Lucky for me! )
Thanks for posting it!
Hey, can I view the messages on PC when I back them up? How do I make sure I have ALL the messages backed up?
Hey I was wandering if anyone knows if spb backup will work for the phonebook for upgrading the rom?
Im prettey sure it does backup the phone book but can't guarantee it.
If anything, just install the outlook 2007 demo on your computer and backup the phone book that way.
Yes Spb backup does work. I can now confirm this

I'd try backing up using Active Sync first. If you want to back up to a micro SD card, Try the attached PIM program. Place this file in Windows/Start Menu/Programs
I've used this program on the Hermes before and tried it on my Titan. It seems to work well. It saved my butt when my laptop died and I accidentally deleted all the contacts from my Device.

There is a newer version of this software and it can be found in the development and hacking forum.
xfer them to the SIM, then the point is moot. Will never loose them during a hard re-set or a ROM upgrade

You can store them on the Micro SD card I suppose.

Copy the file pim.vol which you can find in file explorer in the root of the phone, then after upgrade replace it with the existing one using resco explorer.

PIMBackup. Never any problems. Saves texts messages, appointments, phone calls, contacts and tasks. Never has given me any problem. Plus there is a new version just released.
An online solution...
I use dashwire for regular backups, does almost everything(no calendar yet...) even speed dials.
It's nice because even if you backup to an SD card and lose your phone, you still have your contacts.
I hate using outlook, but still use it once and a while.

That's really all you have to do? can anybody confirm that this works?
Hey guys,
today i received my P4350, i backed up my sms from my XDA-Neo with PPCimBackup and restored them onto the P4350...
But now i´ve got an unread mail in my sms folder, without any sender, message text or anything else. the receive time is always the actual time and i cant delete or move it.
has anyone of you an idea how to fix that?
I dont want to hardreset the device.
Greets Mäffjus
Additonal Info: It is running WM6 (by default).
Phantom SMS? Try to connect your device to desktop thru Jeyo Mobile Companion (trial version available at www.jeyo.com) and delete that SMS. Soft Reset.
its not working, ist shows now sms in inbox...i`m not sure why....
Maybe an error in the inbox database? can i edit the file via Hex or windows (XP) editor?
Further, do you know how i can disable the terrible sound when i sent an sms and the windows pops up? i found no entry in the registry.
hey, no further ideas?
easy as pie
just delete your sms/email inbox. It's the: " cemail.vol " In the mobile root directory. It'll be protected so you'll have to use a trick to get rid of it. Credit goes to Arkhipenko over at mobilitysite.com but here's a quick cut/paste of the solution.
"Hi,
I have recently discovered that my cemail.vol file went crazy: the outlook folders became misaligned.
Without much details of WHAT happened, I needed to delete cemail.vol.
It is not a simple thing since the file is constantly locked by some process (no idea which - I tried killing most of them via MemMaid to no success).
Anyway, to cut the long story short, one way to do it is to use...
Mortscript (what else!)
Create a simple script:
Delete "\cemail.vol"
Place a shortcut to this script to a \Windows\Startup folder and reset: you will have a brand new cemail.vol file when everything boots up (at least I did).
Don't forget to delete the shortcut, or you'll have a brand new cemail.vol every time you boot. "
