CDMA Hero Eclair 2.1 v2 | NEW Eris 2.1 Base!

DarchDroid v1 (Like the new Name )

Gumbo 2.1
by: gbhil
Ive read alot about them all and gumbo is new but seems like it has has potential of being the best and fastest ROM. But I'm asking everyone else? What have you tried? and Which are you choosing to stay with?
darchs and Flipz are great. Never tried the gumbo one.
YMMV
I tried Flipz & Co 2.1 and it felt kind of heavy. Then I switched to Gbhils and it felt snappier. Havent tried Darchstars but my recommendation is: try them all, use whichever suits your needs.
The best one is the one that most suits you. Functionally all are equally capable, choose the one you like.
have used darchstars AOSP 2.1 for a long time and flashed the new one on the 2nd. but today i flashed the new 2.1 by toast and flipzmod which is definetly nice. BUT seriously there nothing of the same AOSP is a whole different genre then FLIPZ stuff due to the fact that AOSP is like gsm and what FLIPZ is HTC Sense and stuff you definetly need to know what you are wanting before deciding which to go with. I will say flipz 2.1 has bluetooth working all the way threw as to were darchs only has it working for stero bluetooth (music no calls), also flipz and quietcblongs just released a patch u can do with the android sdk and cmd to GET MMS WORKING so at the moment i am using theres cause i like the MMS and BT working until darch fixing that. i will note that darchs is 2.1 AOSP meaning its a beautiful port of NEXUS with all the nice features of that including live wallpapers and nexus launcher.... sooo your decision lol. Also i would comment on GBHILS but i never knew he had one hmm going to central and doing some searching.....
i have tried them all. Right now im liking Gumbo 2.1
Darchs is incredibly fast. no BT phone and no MMS. but you cant slow it down if you tried. my fav by far. no sense but that also means you get alot more resources.
toasts is rough still to me but cant really blame him i mean him and flipz uploaded like 3 hours after leak. it has sense and BT works fine. but still on my little test of roms i play rhapsody over BT and turn to landscape and it stops the music a lil. but still a great looking rom.
downloading gumbos now i will edit when test.
I tried them all.. and GBHIL 2.1a is the fastest so far.. no lag.. and verrrry fast..
I had been running the DarchDroid for the last few days, and had no complaints. It is fast and really stable. I don't use BT & I didn't think I missed Sense. That is until I started playing with Flipz yesterday. I flashed it, and enjoyed having Sense again. Overall it is a surprisingly well-finished ROM. I had a few issues which seemed to be fairly isolated, having to re-enter my Google psswd after every reboot. I also found it to get pretty sluggish at times. I know Sense is partially, if not mostly, to blame. I'm getting ready to give the Gumbo ROM a run. Just my $2/100.
I went from AOSP 2.1 -> DarchDroid -> CDMA Hero Eclair 2.8v2.
So far the Hero Eclair is BY FAR my favorite (full Sense UI for the win), but I'd like to try the Gumbo ROM.
Definitely try the Gumbo.. Its delicious...
Gumbo is incredible. GPS works perfectly on google nav, super quick, no force closes for me.
i agree the gumbo 2.1 is on point very snappy and responsive no forces closures what so ever..i think minus the camera and a couple widgets this is gonna be a very close comparison to the hailed sprint 2.1 update
Tried all three and...
Loaded gbhil's Gumbo 2.1a this morning, and it seems considerably more responsive than Flipz. Still having the annoyance of re-entering my Google pswd after each boot (same with both Sense enabled 2.1 ROMs). My vote is for Gumbo 2.1a if you want Sense. If not DarchDroid is terrific.
I tried them all.. and i think if AOSP 2.1 DarchDroid could sync with the facebook contact like CDMA Hero Eclair 2.8v2 do this ona should be the best
i know i know my english suck
ohh gumbo doesn't let u sync wiyh facebook to
I've flashed them all back to back, created nandoid backups of each, went back and forth for awhile... (Darch, Flipz, Gbhil) and have finally settled with Gbhil's Gumbo rom. Can't beat how quick and responsive it is! I'm sure that Flipz can be just as quick with a more optimized kernel like Gumbo has, as I'm sure Flipz and team are hard at work making magic happen
Flipz rom doesn't have the task-killer tweak enabled. Theres the Autokiller app on the market that will enable the tweak on any 2.0 rom. It speed up things alot.

This forum has been blowing up the last few days with roms and toasts new kernel, it's awesome, but also hard to keep up. It seems like most of the 1.6-2.1 roms are pretty incomplete so far, understandably. Just curious as to which non 1.5 roms /kernels are being used as a daily rom and how fast/reliable they have been.
SOOOO many pages on the darchstar threads, I almost posted this in there, but was afraid it would be swallowed up in the huge abyss and be three pages back and mixed in with the 40 other questions currently waiting to be answered on there.
My daily is gbhil's 1.6 Donut rom. My only complaint is no MMS. Other than that, I love it. It's much better than the stock 1.5 rom (other than the MMS issue). I'm also not a big bluetooth user, though. As I understand it, that isn't working on very many - if any - of the 1.6+ ROMs.
It would be nice if maybe they added a "features" and "not working" to each ROM in the sticky. I think that would go a long way to helping people make a good decision about their ROM choice.
I'd like bt and mms but that rom looks pretty nice. Adding what works/doesn't would be key for the wiki. I have to give credit to whoever keeps it updated though, roms are popping out and changing so fast. I feel like I've been living in a cave cuz I still rock gumbo 1.5b, lol, it's been like 2 weeks.
Most of the ROM's have a what works/what doesn't on the first page of the ROM thread. They haven't all kept them as updated as I would like either, but they're there
can't wait to get a working 2.1 rom.. I'm so sick of the laggy 1.5
As far as a stable and fast 1.5 ROM, try Fresh 1.1 with the addition of gbhil's Gumbo Kernel installed. It's blazing fast, and has good battery life. For 2.1, there is really only one 2.1 right now. I'm using it, and so far I haven't had any problems.

Try the Gumbo 1.5c Bare ROM. It seems to be the fastest of the 1.5s.

Dumb question but how do u install kernels???
Is there a working 2.1 ROM for the G1 which has Live Wallpapers with minimal battery drain and also something close to running at a fast speed with GPS/camera/maps/streetview etc all working?
At the moment I'm using SuperEclair V8.2 by XxKOLOHExX and it's fine and all, but the system slows down to the point of becoming near unusable when Live Wallpapers are on - not to mention the huge battery drain. Are there any ROMs which have such issues corrected?
Thanks in advance~
I'm using superD 1.6. I would change to 2.1 if there was something as fast as 1.6. I have yet to see an eclair rom to match the speed of donut.
It's been a while since I've used a 2.1 rom, but when I did, I didnt notice any battery loss from the live wallpapers. From what I know, live wallpapers doesn't even run when your phone is off/sleeping. LWP's turn back on when your phone comes back on, so it's not constantly running.
edit: That didnt really answer your question =)

Hmm yeah that's true - I don't mind if it's not as fast as donut, just as long as it's not really really slow. The 2.1 ROM I was using had great features but it was just too laggy for me.

+1 for Open Eclair. I used it for my everyday rom for months with no problems. Recently switched back to SuperD out of boredom though.
Ohhh, cool. Looks like Open Eclair is the best way to go. Thanks!
latest open eclair or kingklick's ASOP 2.1 v1.9
Cannon 1.2 with 3d patch 2.0 is fully of fc.
SuperEclair v2.4 or v3.0 I suggest v2.4 with Extended Pack.
Kolehe beta 3.0 Rom. I bet theres no Eclair rom faster. flash and see for yourself. But no LWP's though. And you shouldnt be asking for a fast eclair that has minimal battery drain and complain about something slowing down and your using LWP's.
OpenEclair 1.3.0.1 is very feature-complete, stable and the "no 3D" version is fast enough for daily use. The 3D version though is slow. I've missed several phone calls because it takes that long for the phone to wake up and show caller ID.
The OpenEclair devs are promising improvements on that front in the upcoming 2.0 version, so I'd try that out when it becomes available.

is there anything that does not work yet in OpenEclair, such as video capture, camera, SMS, etc?
I have an original MT3G (using Cyanogen right now) if that makes any difference.
Sorry because of the extremely late reply man :S but...
I think you DEFINITELY have to try this ROM if you wanna know what's speed and reliability. It's based off the official aosp ota for the mt3g (my touch 3g) and tweaked out to run flawlessly on the G1

HI!
Awesome!!! I'm thinking about change phone because it's too laggy but this ROM makes all the diference! Thanks for the suggestion.
Now i only have two questions because i had Cyanogenmod and it has Power Control in the status bar like the samsung galaxy i think and i can also change the number of lines and collumns my desktop has, and chage the weight of the widgets.
Anyone knows what can i do to make that things work in this version?
THANKS!!!

I can't wait for someone to reply to this thread in six months time and be all 'Dude, you gotta check out this honeycomb ROM, it runs amazing on the G1!!' and everyone else will be all 'lulwut?'.
Have had Super-E, but changed to BiffMod.
BiffMod is faster on my G1.
Greetings
Braaaaiiiiiings.... mmmmm... BRAIIIINS!!!
The one I have now is blazing fast, I use from cm4 to cm6 and this thing maybe best so far I have use, no fc and bs since I got it, fancy looks but still maintain good speed. But not sure about juice, my battery is extended one like 3.7 VDC 3000m monster battery so it still last me good 10hr+ even everything is on......
Waiting for good sense mod. ;-)

Title says it all. I currently use xtr rom because I wanted a pretty vanilla experience and speed without breaking things. I now want to move to a totally nonsense based rom. Preferably a Cyanogen based one, but I'm not sure which one is most worry free, like everything works, mms, gps, rotation and accelorometer. etc. Thanks, and sorry that I can't really figure this out my self, i just thought it would be better to hear from those who have acctually tried the roms.
The best way to figure out which one is best for you is to use them. Try it for a few days and then try another. No one can tell you what you will prefer.
erislightingbolt ....by conap if im not mistaken. Its definitely perfected enough for daily use.
I use CM6 every day without any problems, texting works, wifi works, gps works, calls work lol I haven't come accross anything that would stop me from using it every day.
Thanks everyone, I'm giving CyanogenELB a shot right now.
Please report back with a "review".
Some of how we like/dislike a ROM is subjective, but your experience can be helpful to others.

I'm using Tazzpatriot's cm6 and it is perfectly fine for everyday. I pull 5.1 on linpack with no setcpu even installed. The stock camera doesn't have preview but it shoots perfectly fine pics. Gps has been a bit sketchy as of latest build but I think tazz may have a fix for that on the way. I love the speed and battery life of it. I am running launcher pro and I popped for the newly offered plus version to help with development and for the widgets he is including. I never have lag and mms works great.
This thread belongs in general. Mods, please move it.

Well I think its a great rom, highest LINPACK score I have seen on my eris yet, but I get this strange lag while scrolling and for some reason it actually feels slower than xtr. I think I'm going to give CM6 a shot.
So, I restored my NANDroid backup of xtr and it strangely feels faster. I hate the HTC dialer, People, and messaging app tho. I think I'm just going to wait until the Froyo Cyanogen roms get more refined and move to one of those. Thanks Everyone.
Tazz's CM6
I've been using Tazz's CM6 with Froyo. Definitely very solid. I use set CPU to 768, JIT, and 24 Heap. With that I get up to 5.2 MFlops. With Skyfire browser I get flash videos too. No more slow phone problems and no more Sense. I love ADW, the dialer, automatic application upgrades, etc, etc.
Most of the Froyo/CM6 roms run well, but are missing basic things like camera, tethering, etc. For a great, fully working rom I would suggest ErisLightningBolt. It is a port of Cyanogen 5 (2.1) and runs great. I get great batttery life and the camera, usb tethering, and Wifi tethering all work great.
Im on CM6 and loving it. It's very smooth and snappy, battery life is good, and it looks nice as well coming from my stock 2.1 setup. My only complaint is the issue with the led light staying on after charging or USB hook up, but I'm using noti led as a fix for that and im using magic cam for a camera fix until those issues are resolved, but overall CM6 has treated me very well!
Ok, well now you all got me really craving to try a froyo rom. CM6 or kaosFroyo? Mostly concerned with stability.
I'm talking only by my own experience, CM6. I tried both (last version I used of K.F. was 21) and I've had such great results with CM6 and very mixed results with K.F. but that's just me.
I run kaos Frayo V24 and its amazingly fast and no force closes only thing not in this for us the camera do t have a preview( use camera magic from market) and flash isn't there yet, other than that kaos V24 is fastest smoothest Frayo Tom out there that I've tried and slot of people.check the kaos Frayo thread out it's awesome.

I forget what exactly, but something about it works that DOESN'T work in KaosFroyo that is necessary for me for a daily ROM. I'll edit this post if I remember it.
All of the devs do a spectacular job on their ROMs though. I would venture a bet that KaosFroyo is a much cleaner, better put together ROM as a result of Kaos's fantastic understanding of Android and how general computer stuff works.
Droid Does V1.1 FTW!!
The default launcher on elb is out dated. What i did was download launcherpro then go in and delete adwlauncher from system/app and just use launcherpro. It is alot faster after doing that.

O that would explain a lot. Did the default launcher make your phone lag even in other apps? Like I noticed scrolling in the market was very slow...
Custom ROM for the Desire Z Bell NAM phone? Please post you opinions if you have used a custom ROM with the Bell Desire Z and have had a good or bad experience. I ask this because the Bell and C2 threads are intertwined for the most part but there has to be subtle and not so subtle differences due to carriers, services, etc.
Most of the customs ROMs are built around T-Mobile G2 platform.........sooo any recomends for the Bell platform specifically? I read a whole bunch but the ROM threads are seriously long, lol, and I may have missed a few things that may be missing for specific providers.
Use the latest Virtuous ROM and kernel. They run flawlessly on my Desire Z from Bell (on the Rogers network). I use the Sense version for the social phonebook functionality and other functions. The Vanilla version is great if you want stock Android, but you miss the awesome Sense widgets which I believe creates an amazing Android experience.
I'm currently running CM 6.1.1 on a Bell DZ (although i'm unlocked and on Telus) and haven't had any issues. GPS works, WiFi works, haven't tried Bluetooth yet however. Everything runs smoothly and I got a cool new boot animation as well

Yes. I second this. It runs very well "out of the box" and the latest (0.9.0) version the "default" (not "advanced") flavour is comfortably overclocked to ~1GHz when running tasks and underclocked when screen is off so it has great battery life too.
I've been using it as my daily driver. I, too, like the Sense integration of social networks and contacts. This is a really great communications device with this ROM.
MIUI , no questions
I've used Virtuous and it is one of the best I've tried. It doesn't have many new things, since the DZ already has Sense, but it's still a really nice ROM.
From my experiences, cm 6.1.1, virtuous 0.9.0 and MIUI are all reliable enough to use daily, and dangit! you couldn't ask for 3 more diverse choices.
Give each one a try, set them up how ya like em, do nandroids of each, then restore a different one every couple of days and just settle into one.
I prefer Virtuous because I personally dig Sense...But MIUI with laucher pro is sick and slick. Then again, CM6 has to be the most popular custom ROM out there...for good reason!
I guess you'll just have to try em all!
Oh yeah, I used gingervillain for a day. Think it has a little bit of work before it's a daily rom, but yeah, that'll be great when cm7/gingervillain get all sorted out.

Thanks guys.....will give the Virtuous first try.
I've used stock, the Euro WWE, CM6, Virtuous 0.8.1, MIUI, and CM7 nightly #11.
My feelings towards them all:
Stock - Overloaded with crap. Slow. Takes forever to boot (excluding the fast boot, ie Sleep mode).
Euro WWE - Same as stock w/o the extra apps
CM6 - I did not like this AT ALL. It also ate my battery. Cool boot video though.
Virtuous 0.8.1 - I liked this one quite a bit but there was an annoying bug with the trackball wake and I was almost never being notified of new emails. I used this on 3 desire z's with the same results. I recommend Virtuous if you are into Sense. It's not too different than stock, though.
MIUI - This one opened my eyes and I really wanted to stick with it, but it had a ton of issues for me. The lockscreen kept disappearing and Wifi would not stay on after reboots. The trackball wake option would not turn off after turning it on the first time. Things like that made me weary of this ROM. I tried an early version and also a later one from the beginning of Jan. I don't see anyone else complaining of those specific issues, though, so it may have just been me.
CM7 nightly #11 - This one is my new favorite by far. I really like gingerbread and this ROM is very lean and mean. Between trying MIUI and CM7 I have ditched Sense completely. It's so much more of a 'cleaner', 'pure' experience without Sense. There's less clutter, things just seem simpler, there's less crap that I don't use (browsing facebook stuff through contact list, etc.) The stock dialer is so much better since the contact list is just on another tab, instead of another app completely, and it has a favorite contacts tab (which also automatically adds frequently called people to the list).
I would definitely recommend trying a non-sense based ROM such as MIUI or CM7. They both have better dialers, contact lists, and SMS apps (the HTC one has bugs). They are both leaner and simpler. HTC menus are packed with way too many options, even just adding items to homescreens is overkill. There are some nice things such as the way you set the time on alarms in Sense, and the HTC hub (some nice ringtone sets in there), but not I don't miss much else. CM7 and MIUI both come with a lot of great rings as well. One of the things I liked most about Sense (the 'people' app) is now one of the things I dislike the most. I miss the Sense camera a lot, I am hoping someone can port that over to non-sense ROMs eventually. However the stock Gallery app is much better than the HTC gallery. Another reason not to use Sense is because certain things such as bluetooth are slightly crippled (can't use Wii-mote), and Samba wifi sharing has issues on sense too. Who knows what else. I found HTC sense syncing also brought my phone to a crawl at least once each day.
Hope that helps you in your journey!
I use a DZ on Bell and I would recommend updating the radio to the latest version as I had constant connection problems with reception for calling/data after using custom roms.
I'm currently using GingerVillian and its working great, very smooth and no lag. No major issues so far and I haven't had any fc's. The only issue so far is that I don't get voicemail notifications (not sure if its the rom or Bell). Also, keep in mind that this rom does not have Sense (I like sense, but I'm willing to use a rom without it so I can try out Gingerbread).

Virtuous 0.9.0 works great with me. A lot of issues cleaned up since 0.8 Modified stock kernel is plenty fast and has no bugs. Everything just works. If you want to OC, use the virtuous kernels; I noticed a few bugs with the other.
In my personal opinion MIUI was great, but I found it slower and less consistent than virtuous.
Gingervillain was also really nice.
Last time I used a cm7 nightly, it was obvious that it was still a work in progress...

Currently testing the Virtuous 0.9.0 Sense ROM with the advanced kernel and quite happy with it so far, 3 days now no issues at all. Stable and smooth.
Will back up in a few days and test the MIUI, Cryo and Ginger as well, may as well........

Hi all,
Brief Intro:
My name is Mordy, I go by MordyT online (used to be active at ppcgeeks), long time PPC user (got my first device in 03, running winmo), been through almost every device HTC has made since then, last one being a TP2. Never left a device locked if at all possible, always running custom ROMS, a few times cooking them myself.
Then, last year, the EvO came out. Made the switch from the TP2 to the EvO and I was happy. After 7 years of fighting WM, I didn't have to cook a custom ROM, I didn't have to reset, etc. I rooted, flashed a few ROMS, but in the end always came back to stock ROM with mods. Wasn't too bad, not bloated, I kinda like sense, and I could always use a different launcher, etc.
Few days ago the account holder made the decision to go to TMo. Close person to them is a rep, so they got commission, Account Holder got a good deal, you know how it goes.
I said, sure, since my EvO pulls a whooping 87 kbps in Milwaukee WI area, doesn't TMo have hspda+ here? Picked up a MT4G, rooted it about 5 minutes ago using this this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996, ran a speed test and got 26 mbps down (SS attached), very nice.
But boy did TMo f up the stock ROM. So much crap in it. So I said, no problem, where is CM6? Uh, no CM6...
What I want is a stock Froyo Experience. No, not GB, Froyo. Ok, I would roll with GB if it was stable, but CM7 is not declared stable yet. So, that brings me to the question in the title...
Which STABLE ROM has as close to stock Froyo or GB? Thanks!
there is a CM6 for our devices it is at the top of page 2 in the Development section... here is the link if you like Sense but don't like the TMO Espresso UI overlay (personally I don't like it either but have come to love real/pure Sense) there are a couple of very nice ports of the Desire HD and the Desire Z. both of them are very nice pure Sense ports only "real difference is the D-HD doesn't have Landscape rotation for home screen and the D-Z does. Both of eVil D's Desire ports are very clean and smooth running, but if you're looking for one with a few themes to choose from Gr8Gorilla's GorrillaSens DHD is also very smooth running. all 3 of the Sense ports are very stable, I can't comment on CM6/7 because I haven't ran them... with as quick and strong as this device is I look at it this way I paid for a powerful device that was running Sense if I wanted AOSP I would have gotten the G2

I saw that thread, but there is no download link that leads to a ROM...
I was looking into the DesireZ and HD port, and pure sense is ok, but I really want to leave it behind.... would you recommend one over the other? What major bugs are there in the ports if any?
Thanks for your reply btw.
There's a CM 6 rom on TeamDouche's mirror
Here the link
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=glacier
CM6 is pretty dead at this point though, no real development is done on it as far as I can tell. CM7 on the other hand is actively worked on and is better performing/looking in my opinion.
Sorry, I can't be of any help with Sense roms, never ran any. I did venture into Iced Glacier land and it was very good compared to stock in terms of bloatware but I still couldn't deal with HTC's crap.
Good luck and congrats on getting MT4G, you won't regret it.

having ran eVil D's Desire-HD and Desire-Z ports and the Gr8Gorilla's Desire-HD, personally I prefer the D-HD ports. they are both great I personally didn't run into any major issues with either one. eVil D's does use a newer build base than Gorilla's, so for me it's really comes down to when I want just straight Sense without any theme's I use eVil's when I wanna run a theme the guys here have done I run Gorilla's. If you want pure Sense without any of the TMO Espresso BS then you can't go wrong with either of these ports

Good choice. I've been running it now for quite a while...it's excellent.
Well, flashed it, it runs very nice, thanks all for your help.
P.S. Any recommended kernels? Battery life would be the only reason to switch. (and yes, I could underclock, I know...)
the OC kernel that eVil D put in the ROM is very nice and stable (I believe it goes up to 1497MHz) also the kernel that Faux123 has been working on is very nice (goes up to 1.84GHz)
I know Faux's has the Smartass governor in it, off the top of my head I can't remember if eVil D's does or not. also Faux's newest version has the latest updates/upgrades from HTC for "Updated GPIO drivers, Updated LED Driver, Updated Wifi Driver, Updated Touch Screen Driver, Updated Sound Driver and Updated DMA engine" he pulled them from the Kernel for the EVO Shift 4G
edit: I have been running his version 0.6 all day and it's been like silk and the battery seems to be holding well (but I also run Juice defender which helps some)

Sorry it took me so long to to get back to you.
The rom doesn't come come with the kernal, it has to be flashed separately, right?
As for smartass, it needs setcpu, right?

No, evilD HD, comes with OC kernel, just faux123 kernel has all the latest patch and updates.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
like epsix said, eVild D's ROM does come with the kernel "pre-installed", if I remember correctly eVil D's is preset to "on demand". I know faux's is preset to "smartass". but yes to change governor you need SetCPU or it's equivalent. you can get SetCPU free from the dev here on xda, this what I originally did but ended up getting the paid version from the market (no difference in the app just wanted to support the dev for future updates). yes there are other "free" cpu tuners in the market but the UI is much cleaner on SetCPU and I like the different colour themes.
Thanks guys!
1 last question ( I know, I should should just nandroid and flash it) but what is the major differances between evil HF and Iced Glacier?
evil's is a true sense rom...iced glacier is a espresso sense (what came on phone)
I-G is basically just the stock ROM with most of the demo-ware pulled out and the ROM smoothed out/cleaned up.
The Desire HD ports are true Sense without any of the TMO overlay at all and it has (not just in the ROM but downloadable from HTC) several more widgets and themes/skins that TMO pull out to put on the Espresso overlay, that and all the nice skins they have made for the Desire HD will work (like the theme I am running right now is a very nice blend of Gingerbread and Honeycomb). over all the layout of the ROM just seems more user friendly and clean (I really like the "personalize" soft-key right there on the home-screen)
Gotcha. I defiantly don't want the iced rom, whole reason I flashed to HD was to get away from the messed up sense TMo thought was in...
Thanks for all!
I also enjoy the personalize found on the HD ROM, like the Metal Skin. I somehow manage to download a skin that is already on the device and now I have two of them. Any ideas as to delete it?
