This may be related to some of the software I have on the device, but once or twice a week I turn on the unit, and the screen's totally black. The funny thing is that it isn't by any means locked up. If I use Pocket Controller to dial in, I can use it in a normal way. So it seems it's something that works on the monitor driver. Has anybody else seen this? I have the latest WM6 image.
I think it may be a hardware problem, not a driver problem. You should send it to O2 support.
Thanks for the suggestion. But since they are in Hongkong, and I am in Norway I'm at least going to do a hard reset and run it a few days without the five billion programs I have on it (SPB stuff and lots of other things). Especially since it didn't happen the first weeks I had it, and I have steadliy installed new software. But if that doesn't help, I'm gonna contact Expansys and see what we can arrange.
Just to keep this updated, I have now been running it on the last WM5 ROM for four days, and not once seen the above mentioned problem. I'm gonna do a week, then I will reflash the WM6 image and run that on only the bare essentials (like now: NetRemote, Pocket Hosts, Derago dNote and the O2 plus program suite). The first day I even had an automated script send me E-mail on the account where I have E-mail warnings through SMS every minute for around three hours. Not once did it do anything but wake politely up from suspend and work as it should. Which should be a good sign that something in the WM6 ROM or one of the gazillion programs I installed is the guilty party.
I've been having this issue for a month or so now. I've tried hard resets, various ROM's, etc. It's intermittent, and I have not been able to establish any sort of pattern. As you can imagine, this is frustrating.
I'm on Sprint, and am under contract for 9 lines until February 2010. I am to the point that I want a different phone, but I need to have email. I do not want a Touch and I'm not too psyched about going back to a Blackberry.
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem, or for a different phone that I can use on Sprint's network? (I have to retain email functionality)
I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about, but I have a similar problem. I am running the same ROM as you (DCD 2.3.2) as well as Radio 3.27, but I am on Verizon's network.
I use S2U2 to lock my device, and occasionally when I receive a phone call I am not able to answer it. The caller ID feature does not work with these instances and all I see is my Today screen while my phone is ringing. The left soft key says "call status" but I have no way of answering, nor seeing who it is that is calling. This is quite frustrating/annoying and I have tried many different combinations in the settings (power suspend on/off, direct draw on/off, etc.) to no avail.

Standard testing protocol...load the OEM 3.35 package, do not install other applications or tweaks, see if you still have the problem. If not, install applications or tweaks one at a time, waiting sufficient time to determine if the problem reoccurs, and when it does you have isolated the cause.
There are a couple of threads on this from a few weeks ago, we started trying to figure out which application was causing it but the threads fizzled...
The app that it looked like was at fault was Advanced Config, but it hasn't been confirmed - do you have it installed?
As of right now I'm running the newest stock ROM and still have the problem.
I have no applications installed.
I've been doing IT work for 10 years but can't nail down any source of this issue via my own experiences or through searching. I am stumped.

If you have the problem with the stock ROM with no tweaks or added applications, maybe it is a hardware problem. Try getting Sprint to exchange the equipment under the warranty.
Anyone have a solution to this? I had Adv Config, and removed it, but the problem persists. I have progressively begun to remove the last installed programs, resetting each time, but it does not seem to help. I would do a hard reset, but I did not back up all of my info yet. Any help would be appreciated.
Full Disclosure: I don't want to tick of the advconfig guys so I am saying this up front again... It's not confirmed that advconfig is the culprit, but so far, it's a very common factor.
Uninstalling the app didn't work for me either... had to hard reset (too the chance to load the latest DCD... 2.3.2 when I did it). You're going to have to save off what you need and then do that I am afraid.

Take the phone to a Sprint store, they will give you a new one if you have the replacement insurance plan... I think is about $7 a month or so...
I had a friend that was having similar issues, and that is what he did.
He hasn't had the problem since (about 3 months)
Ok, so, I used Sprite backup and backed up my data, then did a hard reset, and of course the problem went away. After doing a restore the problem went away. After a little trouble shooting I narrowed it down to a program called "Bennec83 New Battery Icon (White)" . I have yet to put all my programs back in place that I removed (5 total), but I put this one back on, and the problem re-appeared, I removed it and the problem went away. If It starts to happen after I replace the other programs I will report back here.
that's interesting. I did not have that program installed when I had the issue. perhaps there is a certain combination of registry settings or DLL files or something else that causes this (I am no where near smart enough when it comes to these thing to be able to speak with authority on them).
I hope someone can eventually figure this out once and for all, though my phone still works great after my hard reset a few weeks ago.
Just for the sake of it I put Advan Config back on my phone and what do you know, the issue returned again with that program too. I am guessing that these programs aren't playing nice with one/some of the other programs that I have installed as well, but I am no authority either.
My problem is intermittent. Sometimes after a hard reset or a fresh flash it is fine for a while. Sometimes it's a day or two, sometimes it is fine for 2 or 3 calls and then goes back to the usual. Have to press and hold the green phone for it to answer.
This is happening on stock and custom roms. I do not have the insurance policy but what kind of warranty does the phone carry from the manufacturer?
All Sprint phones come with a one year warranty. Within that time you can take your phone to a Sprint store and they'll repair or replace it for free. If they replace it you'll almost certainly get a refurb. Also, any replacement you get will carry the balance of the original warranty or six months, whichever is longer.
Going by what you're describing I'd say you could get a replacement as long as the Sprint techs can replicate the issue. If you're having a spell where it's doing it for days at a time, try to get to a store ASAP so they know you're not crazy. Of course make sure you're on a stock Sprint ROM with no third party apps installed so they can't blame it on faulty software. Good luck.
So, Love my HD2 still, but...the bloody thing deleted itself last week on Friday.
I seacrhed the forums and found this to be a well-known issue, but no fix that I could find and I want to be able to sync with Exchange without worry.
I was wondering if anyone has a fix for this "lock-out" issue.
PS-yes, I have hacked the registry to give me SOME of the original options back for the calendar other than snooze five minutes, but I want my old options back (2 weeks, 1 week, 2 hours, etc.)
To HTC:
This is very upsetting and I hope that this gets read.
With all its foibles I still loved this HD2.
It does not do the calendar well: I need things to be able to snooze for more than 5 minutes. I would like the functionality back for multiple snooze options.
The battery life is pretty poor.
Other than that I have loved this device-UNTIL NOW!
Last week my phone locked me out.
I am synched to my exchange server at work and policy mandates that I use a password for this in that I work in an FQHC.
All of a sudden I wake up and the phone will not let me in.
Now, I am not employing a genius password it was "2222." That was it!
I tried again and then once more and the phone prompts me to input characters to make sure that my keyboard is taking the strokes properly. It was.
I removed the battery and tried again. Still nothing.
I note that with my fumbling around that I have exhausted 6/8 of my attempts.
I wait to call HTC.
I get on with my IT department first and ask them if they forced a password change. They had not.
I called HTC and was told that this was terrible...have I tried removing the battery?
Yes. Then I am asked to do it again.
I do so. When the phone comes back up it states:
"You have one more attempt left. If you enter the wrong password again all of your data will be erased." Mind you, I am not pushing any keystrokes, just resetting the phone.
Then the rep asks me to do a soft reset.
Stupidly, I do so.
Upon rebooting the phone informs me that it is resetting the phone to factory defaults, wipes the whole phone INCLUDING my SD card which had photos, movies and other.
I look on the forums and see that this is a KNOWN issue since back in MARCH!!!
All of my information is gone.
I will not be able to sync to the exchange which I need for my calendar and work emails because I refuse to lose EVERYTHING again.
I spoke to another HTC rep yesterday and he was simply aghast. Very knowledgeable gent, but did not know how to address this issue.
So please, along with the calendar, the battery, and some other much needed updates...what is your team doing to resolve this "lock out" issue?!
I can almost deal with the other problems, but this one?!
Please, let me know.
Very sincerely,
for the snooze, use bsbtweaks "windows dismiss x notifications" tweak.
or go to hklm/system/shell/notification/oem find customUIDLL and change the filename to,well, anything. bsbtweaks adds a "2" before the ".dll"
Will this work even though my company forces out a lock as its exchange policy?
I found some interesting answers in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582660
it has nothin to do with lock, it simply stops the htc snooze/dismiss popup from showing, so it defaults to the windows one.
for the lockouts ive never used lock so never seen the problem, so can't help.
I found an answer that seems to work (for now) in an old post linked to a WinMo Blog:
Enable/Disable the Exchange security policy - HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023: 0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
I just did this moments ago and the forced password is now not being forced, but I do not know if they push the policy out more than once (like every 24 hours). I guess I will find out!
I saw some other keys:
"HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies" folder.
00001005 to 1
00001006 to 1
Have not touched these yet.
I am a little worried that if they kick the policy back in I won't have the proper password (or any) and will not be able to get in, but I guess this one is going to be trial and error for a bit.
So I've had this phone for a few months now, and earlier I just felt like backing things up, so I installed the microsoft myphone app and it asked me to restart. After the restart, the phone wouldnt take my pw. i've pulled the battery a few times and that doesn't help. MUST I do a hard reset or has somebody had this exact problem and it magically worked a little later? =)
Your password for what? To get into the actual phone itself?
Search the forum if you like, but this exact thing happened to me less than one month back.
My facility enforces a password policy so I have to use one.
I hated it, but abided by the policy until...I got locked out.
It is a known bug.
A hard reset was the only fix and then, for me, a registry tweak to disable the policy.
Sorry for the news.
It is a known bug, and you have no choice but to reset it.
However, the new 3.14 rom addresses this issue, and while I only have it on a handful of HD2's at the moment, and it hasn't been that long, everything has been rock solid.
I recommend the update.
I have an HD2 with WM 6.5 and recently upgraded to "Official" ROM 3.14 while running SPB Mobile Shell and Throttle Lock pattern screen lock. I didn't have any issues for the first 8-10 months I owned this phone but about 2 months ago I started having problems. I contacted my carrier's customer support (T-mobile USA) and they told me my issues were related to the fact that I had an old 2G SIM card and they gave me a brand new 3G SIM. That didn't fix the problem.
Next they told me it was because I was operating off of an old RAM Version (2.10) and I would need to update to 3.14 from their website. I did this and it worked great for about a week and a half... then it started having issues again.
This time it was that issue with Google (Gmail) upgrades that caused the phone to no longer communicate with their network and it was burning up my processor and draining my battery faster than you could imagine.. I finally got the fix for that by deleting my Gmail accounts off of the phone, soft reset and reload of the accounts... that problem was solved.
Another week or so goes by and my phone starts hanging up with throttle lock... which I have always had on the phone with no issues but when I unlock the screen it leaves the throttle lock info bar at the top of my screen and the phone starts hanging up when I navigate through other menus and screens and it won't allow me to access my phone pad or unistall the throttle lock. I went into the configuration settings for throttle lock and it said my license was expired and I had the option of doing a monthly licensing update or I could donate as little as 1 euro and get a "Gold Account" with permanent license... so I did and miracuously the problem was fixed.... for about 4 days and now it is doing the same thing... I don't know if this is a bug issue with the new ROM or if Throttle lock is now junk or what the problem is but I am at my wits end with it.. I love the phone (until recently) and I am needing to know if anyone else has experienced these problems and if so, what the fix is... or is this some sort of anomaly?
