MultiTouch not working properly on Hero (and on N1) - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hy all
I've seen here that MultiTouch was not working properly on NexusOne.
The guy has developped a little app ("Multitouch Visible Test", available on the market) which clearly shows where is the problem (have a look on this video)
The bad news here are that Hero provides exactly the same behavior as N1

Interesting, my hero is acting the same as the nexus (htc messed up?).
I don't think its that big a problem really, unless you get caught playing one of the games that are meant to be messed up by it as pinch zoom which is all most people use it for works perfect.

I experienced the same issue on my Hero. Anyone has an explanation for this? Hopefully its a software pproblem, not a hardware issue..

Odd thing about Nexus One Multi-touch

I downloaded the visualizer app (the one with the 2 dots and not the square)
and yea if I begin on the left side of the screen then touch the right and move around the points hang a bit when they cross and will hardly ever switch (unless u do complex rotating action with both points but then the switch is periodic at best)
but if I begin on the right side of the screen, the points ALWAYS switch...always...
Interesting...does that mean it's a software issue?
I already KNOW this is the wrong section but I feel this is something that could benefit from the most viewed sub forum.
edit: starting from the right side, the points fix themselves when I do the same complex rotating action that sometimes causes point switch starting from the left. I'd record it if I had a camera, but yea.
none of the 163 (at the time of this posting) viewers have anything to say?
not even a "WRONG SECTION NOOB" (Despite my non noobishness) post?
sheesh.
wrong section, noob.
wrong section noob.
hahahhaha LOVE IT.
another interesting update: The previous results were on a Cyanogen Mod...
Using Modaco Desire Alpha 14 I get the EXACT opposite results...
Starting with a finger on the left side of the screen then the right side point switch is guaranteed...whereas starting with a finger on the right then the left point switch is non-existent.
I think it is entirely a software fault...anyone who knows anything have anything to say about it?
then again, the overall finicky-ness of it is probably just a flaw period...though I think it can be fixed with a software update due to the different behavior between ROMs.
seems to switch points at random actually...on the desire ROM especially.
still wrong section noob. haha.
It has been covered by pretty much all tech blogs on the 'net already.
Some think it is a hardware bug, and others think it's software. Who knows.
I don't think it will matter for most people, although I consider it a serious flaw if it is not possible to fix it with software.
And yeah, this might be the wrong section, but it could also turn into a dev issue. "wrong section, noob" was funny the first time.
yea that's why I put it here in the first place, I shoulda added [Think Tank] and then squeezed my statements there...def belongs in General though...any Mod please move there without any Snarky comments prior.
i 'll move it but with snarky comment : use edit button when you want to replay to yourself instead of creating two posts
I just tried that Multitouch Visible Test, and it does not always switch the dots. It is a little bit strange though, because it seems like the dots are just put on the wrong intersect of the red and blue lines. If it is a hardware malfunction it is a very weird one. Some kind of random mirror function.
Maybe its a problem with the app itself and nothing with phones.... comon now, I don't have a problem with multitouch and I think that app is horrible to determine a bad phone..
No offence people, but these issues everyone brings up on this phone isn't a issue at all... the 3g issue is network not phone, the wonky screen is from the wrap around effect, the multitouch issue is retarded.....
The only valid one imo is the dust...... everything else seems irrelevant

The multitouch issue is not app based, otherwise it'd be present on the Droid as well (where it isn't, infact Droid's multitouch is damn near flawless looking at that video and having owned one) Though it's not going to be an issue for anything I and many others current use the phone for (Browsing, Maps, Gallery, anything else that uses pinch to zoom) it will become an issue and may already be for multitouch games...From what I saw it seemed like it is likely software based due to the fact that on the Cyan ROM one thing happened in one order and on the Desire ROM same thing happened (and a bit more buggy) in another order.
But yea, about the 3G issue..I never had that either...in fact my 3G with my N1 is better than the 3G i had with my G1.

It may be just that There is different hardware/software in one vs the other.....
I still don't believe it will be a issue, I mean that app your sliding both fingers at the same time, and it only happens some of the time..... I don't believe there will be many games where your performing that kind of action, and even if so it don't happent all the time and may act completely differently in a game than it does in the app..... I mean, if it was a big deal we would notice it in the other pinch to zoom apps, I've tried on pinch to zoom to get it to do anything weird and it don't..... just saying, I don't think this video/app proves much....
Then again, who the hell am I.. lol I don't know shat like anyone....

In fact, N1 has only pinch and zoom multitouch whereas droid has native multitouch...
temperbad there are a lot multitouch app in the market which state that Nexus One is not supported due to its multitouch misfunction..
ping pong multitouch is one of these applications..
Propably it is a hardware issue.

Try it in the browser. Pinch zoom out, then rotate your fingers in a circle and continue pinch zooming out. Instead of zooming out, it zooms in.

Its supposed to a software bug.. The same thing produces two different results with two different ROMs....so its not a hardware issue....

I too have absolutely 0 issues with pinch to zoom and rotating, getting my fingers really close together, etc. 0 issues whatsoever.
I'm on the Desire rom though.
Anyway, you have to remember this has absolutely NO importance whatsoever unless you play a lot of games.
If you don't, like me (I have a 360, so I couldn't care less), you'll never really have an issue with this.

LCD refresh rate a little slow?

Hey Just got a used magic off ebay but there is one issue thats been bugging me...It came with 5.0.7-DS rom on it and everything seems good expect when scrolling through lists or icons i can visibly see some ghosting. Is this a problem with the HTC Magic or is it just my particular device? Now i know the Magic isnt the most powerful of phones but it should definatly be capable to redrawing basic elements on screen properly so im not sure what the problem is??
Thanks

that Froyo release - any improvement in GPS??

i had to ask the "elephant in the living room" question - anyone hear any reports - the web seems to have gone quiet on the subject

I'm interested in this as well. Although I never use GPS or the compass I'd like it fixed..... Samsung needs to release a update there's too many issues people are having......
Poor gps
Poor compass
Signal bars weird
Accelerometer broke untilled you run Android Sensor data
Buggy capacitive buttons
jerky TW.
Hell didn't the Droid x get a update already? And it doesn't even have any issues..
O well maybe soon Samsung huh?
X got updated at least once already......hopefully Sammy is working on all-in-one fix update.

[Q] HD2's Multitouch Visible Test

Nexus One has the multitouch problem. it's axis and coordination are a bit off when using multitouch.
I was never able to confirm this on my device because I was always on WiinMo; However, we have android now -d
Using the Android "Multitouch Visible Test" application from marketplace, I've noticed that everything seems to be working find on the HD2 and I am not getting any weird results.
Can anyone else confirm how theirs is doing?

I have tried and tested my HD2 (TMOUS) running Bangsters latest android ROM and I dont have a problem with MT.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNUJFLIfYiY
This is my HD2, the touchscreen sucks T_T
the hd2 seems to pack better screen digitizer than most htc android devices even better than its sister the evo 4g look at this video and read the comments
multitouch issues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P9vMAvvkGY
touch sensor lag issues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szOje7dcRlo&feature=related
the hd2's touch screen really is impressive. as far as i can tell its just as good as the iphones touch screen.
i remember from having a g1 which used a cheaper capacitive screen only being able to register 2 points as long as they wernt on the same horizontal or vertical plane, if yuou did it would average out to the middle between the 2 fingers. so it wasnt a true multi touch screen.
can i remind you guys that this is development, this really belongs in the android general, or even q and a.
this forum really is getting littered with posts that do not belong, and its making finding usefull info difficult

Stop using the tip of your finger. Do you have dry hands? Use the pad of your finger as opposed to the tips.

This issues is known by some HTC HD2. The installed display are not the same.
The problem is on Windows Mobile as well. I've tested other HD2 in Market, they dont have this issues.
Multitouch is great.
But when i play nova and have two touch dots on same y axis (in landscape) both dots move together along the y axis.
So when im moving with left pad and trying to look up on left ped im having problems.
I moved the walk and look pads in NOVA on different axis. But its harder to play that way than its originaly intended.
my HD2 in this test works wery well no faults with axis and lag is almost invisible
I have the same issues! ..the thing is.. i can't fix it.. there's no HTC in my country! if i send it by mail i would risk it would brake or never see it again!

Yes, it's quite jittery/stuttering.
I just compared it to a Galaxy S i9000 and they're pretty close, but the i9000 might be a bit less jittery. Hard to tell.
I also compared to my Nexus One (I have a lot of phones, LOL) and it's just as jittery/stuttering. The software's been updated recently, so perhaps they broke it with the update. It's not unusable, but it's too sensitive to be a good experience...
I believe with the latest update there were settings that toggled how frequently the sensor data is polled. Try playing with that? I don't have the NS yet, though I have the N1

You are correct. Menu/settings/sensor_settings. Changed Sensor Speed to "slow" and Damping to "high" and get much less jittery. (Still not nearly as smooth an experience as the similar apps on my iPhones.)
Definitely jittery. Even after changing sensor settings. Was much smoother on my G1. I predict an update to Sky Map in our future...
I also feel the digital compass is way too jittery compared to my previous nexus one and G1. It shows clearly in any compass application and in the skymap.
I wonder if others are seeing the same exact issue and this is some sort of a software error or this is actually a hardware bug.
I have this problems with SkyMap: after I used SkyMap the screen does not rotate more (the accelerometer sensor not work), if I reboot everything returns to normal...this happens also to you?
Same to me
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Yea the compass on the NS is similar to how my Vibrant's was... crap.
