Have been reading that Vodafone have locked the 1605 to their network. The unit I received from them this morning is not locked and is quite happy on Orange as well as O2
I got a v1605 on 10 July. It was not locked. I use O2 3G.
All the other threads on this and the 4winmobile site have indicated all the devices sold to date are unlocked.
Got 10 V1605's here that have come in over the last month from different batches.
None have been networked locked as yet.
Yup mine was unlocked too and I use it on TMob.
Hey there,
I am just about to purchase a HTC HD2 from China.
I have asked for the Pre configured English version, however is there any thing else that i should be concerned about before purchasing?
I looked it up on Alibaba site..
They say it comes with an international warranty, is in the box etc, but will it work in Australia, with my Optus 3G sim? (Also will it work with other carriers too?)
Any info you could provide would be great,
With thanks in advance.

I would be careful if I were you in checking out the specs. Most HTC phones sold in Asia do not come with the 3G 850Mhz Band. If I am correct, you will need this band to receive 3G services in Australia. Check here to see the specs that come with HTC phones that are legally sold in Asia. Don't confuse GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz support with 3G support. For that you have to look at the specs for HSPA/WCDMA.
I have a HD2 which I bought from Handtec in the UK. I used it on the Telstra Network for a while but it only worked with EDGE. I have since changed to Vodafone and get full 3G for half the price.
I have not tried Optus, so you may need to check what frequencies they use for their 3G Network. The HD2s from overseas doesn't contain the 850Mhz frequency so for Telstra it will only ever get EDGE not full 3G.
Vodafone uses the 900/2100Mhz
Telstra uses 850/2100Mhz, they are apparently getting the 850Mhz on their HD2 Versions released in AUS Q1 2010.
Your HD2 will definitely work in Australia with the Optus network. However if you live in a regional area and change to Telstra you will struggle as the phone has not yet been released with NextG's 850MHz compatibility. Telstra is releasing this phone very soon.
There's a thread discussing this topic already so you should read that too.
Of more concern is maybe where you're getting the phone from. I hope you've got a reputable dealer...

le_paulo's right. no matter what network you use in AUS it will work- to varying degrees. as a phone, no worries, but the 3G/EDGE issue you will need to take into account.
try this list of vendors xda forum users have used;

like i said before I used Handtec, they seem to have a good rep and it only took 2 weeks to get to darwin from the uk.

About working and not working other freinds informed you, but be careful there will be no warranty if you purchase it from china. I dont know HTC is having global warranty service in Australia or not.
I am a victim I purchased Touch HD from Hong Kong (and it is not working now) & I am living in UAE, my full value of mobile wasted as here no global warranty available. HTC is telling me to send the phone to Hong Kong.

Do you have any HTC service centers UAE? I checked with the HTC headquarters in Taiwan and their response was to first seek help from an HTC service center, and if they cannot fix it, the phone would be sent back to the country of origin. Of course, Taiwan itself has good HTC service centers. I have no idea about HTC service centers in UAE or Australia.
Don't buy anything searched on alibaba.com or china...
I know its late for me... but maybe for anyone else not... DON'T BUY ANYTHING ON alibaba.com...
A month ago, searching for HTC HD2 T9193 on alibaba... and I found many who sell it... as low as $183/unit on 2 minimun units... so I tried it and here are the results:
I have received same amount of phones that I have ordered (3) but Chinesse copies of Nokia N97s!... and the response of the person who sold it to me... "there could be a problem with the cargo company, we are waiting their response"... and here I am... a month later waiting for "the cargo company to give them an answer!"...
So if either of you want to buy anything and searched on alibaba.com... at least don't do with these people:
Moninka
www dot werternmars dot com
westernmars at hotmail dot com
westernmars1 at hotmail dot com
As others said, they only receive Western Union or Money Gram transfer (not paypal neither credit card)... and the prices are very low...
Hey guys,
Got a few questions here.
1) Does anyone have any information on Vodafone Australia Froyo release? I have heard that Vodafone UK have already released theirs but I haven't heard anything for down under.
2) I have heard that I could update my carrier to be Vodafone UK rather than AU. Does anyone know how I could do this?
Appreciate the help guys.
Nah I dunno, I'm also an Aus Legend user
I've spoken to Vodafone Support about the Froyo update for Aus, and they said they didnt know but would let us know when they had information. So pretty typical response really.
As far as your second question, it doesn't really make sense. Do you mean change your ROM to be the Vodafone UK Froyo 2.2 release?
Nevermind...

Yeh sorry i was really tired when i wrote the thread couldn't think of the right words...lol
I ask this question because i spoke with a Vodafone representative and he told me that he had switched his ROM to Vodafone UK because they release updates quicker than Australia, he actually recommended that I do this as well.
I seriously hate Vodafone Australia they are the worst company i have ever dealt with, the less i have to do with them the better.
What are the steps/risks involved changing the ROM?
I would be interested to know this also, I imagine you would need to root your phone however which is somewhat less than simple.
Also, vodafone are only terrible if you don't take into account the competition. There really aren't any good carriers here.
I spoke to a person at T-Mobile technical support (The one based in the UK) today and she said that t-mobile will have 4G in the UK around January or February. That's a lot closer than most people are saying. Just thought id post this on here, not sure if it will help anything

While some versions of the phone have already received the HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat update (like the Google Play Edition, some US versions, as well as Indian and European variants), others are just now getting a notification that the firmware is available. This was the case with our UK unlocked HTC One the other day, and it looks like HTC is pulling the plug temporarily.
An official statement from the manufacturer says: “we are aware that a limited number of HTC users are experiencing difficulties with the KitKat update. As a result, all FOTA updates have been temporarily suspended. HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience and we are working hard to resolve the issue quickly“.
At the moment, there is no information regarding the so-called “difficulties” experienced by users, but both the unlocked, and carrier (Vodafone, O2, Three, and EE) variants of the phone have an “integration” status regarding the HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat update on the official page.
