USB drive mode problem - Nexus One General

Stock N1. Works fine as a USB device when connected to Windows 7 PC, I can access files just fine. When I connect to my car stereo it refuses to recognize it as a USB drive - just says "Error" and does nothing. Car stereo works fine with every std USB drive I have, and worked fine with my old TyTnII flashed with WM6.5 (thx guys!). There is something different with th N1.
Anyone got any ideas / suggestions for me
Thx

HELP!! - HTC Y-cable Driver broke WM6 and Vista Sync!

Please help!!!!
I have an Orange M3100 (Hermes 100 /TyYN) which is running WM6 (LVSW Edition).
My device synchronises with my computer running Vista and Mobile Device Center 6.1
I purchased the HTC TyTN Y Cable (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=145071) to allow me to charge and unit and use the Hermes as MP3 player in the car.
The cable didn't work until I installed the following driver - http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/htctytn.html
I used this instruction hack to get the driver installed -
http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?i=145071&thread=1
I have attached the cab file I used to this thread.
The cable now works perfectly in the car BUT this morning I connected the Hermes with the normal USB lead to my computer and I can't sync. The following message appears on the phone:
To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer.
Any ideas?? I need to use synch for work purposes so I really stuck.
There is no uninstall (remove programs) for the driver and I really don't want to reflash a new rom if it can be avoided. (This is the worse case scenario.)
Thanks!
WM6 ROM with Driver
Just a thought is there a WM6 ROM with this driver already integrated???
The driver you've posted, maybe disable the "transfer data check" when power is connected.
The Y cable HAS NOT the pins 4&5 (on its mainboard are 1&2) jointed, so before the driver installation, the pda was unable to charge.
Note: if you connect a cable with pins 4&5 jointed, the sync doesn't work
When you've installed the driver, maybe it has disabilited the "data check" (from USB DATA pins) and "joint check" (pins 4&5) and something goes wrong..
Need more tests, with and without the Y adapter, however all should be ok with an HReset (and you've to joint the pins into the Y cable, that you cannot use to syncronize)
SkizZO
Thanks for the reply.
The Y cable is only used in the car (for audio out and charging) so the Y cable is not used for the computer sync. I simply use the standard computer usb sync cable to synch with the computer. I did however try using the Y cable for the computer sync and it didn't work.
Most bizarrely the computer sync worked perfectly this morning for no apparent reason - I definately didn't change any settings. The only thing is I didn't connect the Hermes to the car enroute home. I wonder does the driver get confused switching between the Y cable and standard USB synch cable - maybe the device requires a soft reboot between switching between Y cable and USB cable?
I'll try it over the next few days and report back on the findings.
I am running Black Edition 3.0.1 and before installing your cab, my y-cable didn't work. I just installed it and my sync with Vista still works perfectly fine as well as the y cable!
So no problem here at all.

[Q] I cant connect ny hd2 on my computer

Hi im new here
I got my hd2 when it first came out running winmo 6.5 now i just cant connect it to the computer tried more than 1 computer and more than one cable when i connect it only charges i receive nothing on the computer like i used to before i have tried everything in the setting usb to pc still same thing
please help me how can i connect it
and i also tried hard resetting it more than once same thing
under settings tab -----other , there will be a usb to pc button
I bet you have tried all setting changes so since you have done a hard reset and it still doesnt work, it has to be your micro USB cable. I had the exact same problem as yours and i feared that it was the micro USB port that was faulty. But then i tried a different micro USB cable and it works perfectly. Hence, it is likely to be your cable. Im not bad mouthing HTC because of the amazing work they have done, but their accesories seem to be a bit down on quality. My original micro USB cable is now frayed and almost severed, my Touch HD micro USB is also frayed and the original earpiece is now experiencing audio balance issues.
the thing is the cable that comes with the hd2 i lost it but when i was using it i could connect
but now im using nexus one cable and Nokia n900 cable to connect to the computer and it just charges like i said nothing appears
Have you tired different ports in your computer or tried reinstalling the drivers? To do that, uninstall the Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center in your PC and reinstall it. Then try. If you still cannot connect your HD2 to the PC for USB mode, then im afraid the micro USB port in your HD2 is faulty. Try the above. Meanwhile, use the SD card method for flashing or transfer files using wi-fi or bluetooth.
Good Luck
If your HD2's USB port doesn't work you can connect to ActiveSync via bluetooth. I do that very often for a quick synchronization, and since HD2 has an Activesync profile it's easy to configure...
Anyway, check that "accept USB connections" option is selected in your pc ActiveSync configuration.
Most probably, he's facing the da** usb port breaking issue.

Set as USB Disk Drive to play music via Car headset issue

Hey. So for the past few months, I've been able to connect my phone as a "usb thumb drive" to my car audio and play/control music directly through the headset. For some reason, over the past few days, whenever I connect my phone, the car will recognize the USB, connect, show a song playing, and then disconnect within seconds. And then my car is just waiting for a USB to be plugged in.
Have any of you had a similar issue or know what I can do to fix it?
BTW, my phone is currently fully stock, replacement phone from Sprint.
You have a firm usb connection? Also you enabled mount as usb on the phone?
I suggest putting some songs on a real USB flash drive, and see if the same thing happens. This way, you can help narrow down the problem to either your EVO or your car audio unit.
Another thing to consider is if you added any new files to your SD Card since it stopped working. Embedded devices with USB mass storage support can be pretty buggy, and its software can choke if it encounters a particular file that it doesn't know how to deal with.

[Q] B&W MM-1 USB speakers do not work after unplug/plug

Hi, I have Bowers & Wilkins USB speakers, which works fine in Windows 8, including remote control of the applications, but what they do not survive unplug and plug operation. I am using them with my Lenovo T400s notebook, and after I plug them again, the Windows 8 says, that the USB device was not recognized. After restart its OK. I have found as well, that if I plug them while they are turned off and then turn them on, that this problem occurs. But if I plug them turned on, it seems, that it usually works fine. Anybody has similar problem with USB speakers? I am using Windows 8 With Media Center Release Preview Build 8400.

Kenwood car reciver does not recognize HTC 10 via USB

Hello!
I recently installed a Kenwood KDC-BT768HD in my vehicle. This unit has USB 2.0 ports and is supposed to support Andoird Audio. When I plug my (or my wife's) HTC 10 into the Kenwood's USB ports, with the HTC USB cable, the HTC 10 will charge, but the Kenwood does not recognize that anything is plugged in to it, and the HTC 10 doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged into it either. The Kenwood just says "NO DEVICE" and If I go to the USB settings in the HTC 10, everything is greyed out, so there is no way to set the USB mode. The HTC 10 works fine when I plug it into my PC or USB OTG cable, and the Kenwood recognizes when other things are plugged into its USB ports. Bluetooth seems to work fine. I am running stock Andorid 7.0 with the latest updates from Verizon.
I had USB debugging on, but turning it off didn't fix the problem. I also went through all the USB modes in the Developler options, and turned off Developer options altogether, but neither of those fixed the problem. I tried a different third-party cable that works with my PC, but it doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Do any other phones work with this method?
I remember my brothers Civic came with USB for audio, and you could let in a USB stick for example, but it would only charge the device when plugged in.
Could just be how the headset is?

If you google around, various posters in various forums report that it works, some even with older HTC devices. I have never tried it before, because I never had a car stereo with a USB input prior to the Kenwood I installed.

When I had similar issues as you on my old Samsung phone and Kenwood deck, the problem was the USB cable I was using. It was not recognized by either one of the devices as a data cable. Actually the cable itself was fine for other uses but just wasn't playing nice with one or both of the devices. Have you tried with the oem cable that came with the phone itself?
In my opinion, if your Kenwood supports Android Auto and yet that feature doesn't pick up your phone with Android Auto app at all, then it's a sign that the cable you're using is not up to the task.

I have a similar problem with a Pioneer and MirrorLink, it worked fine before Android 7. You should see if there is a required Kenwood app that needs to be installed, that's the only way I could get my 10 with Android 7 to be recognized by my stereo.

There is a Kenwood app that I have installed, but it says it supports Android 6...nothing about Android 7. When I run the app have have the phone plugged in, it doesn't recognize the Kenwood.
Upon plugging the Android phone into the Kenwood, the Kenwood is supposed to offer to download the app, but it doesn't, likely because it doesn't recognize that anything is plugged in.

I feel like this is a problem with 7.0, it would probably work on 6. Is there a firmware update for the stereo itself?
My phone wouldn't be recognized in my Audi either, tried everything, wife's iPhone car play worked fine.... very frustrating... So I would just use it to charge. Then one day it started working! So much better than the Audi MMI. No idea what changed to make it work. Maybe Google play services updated?

The firmware in the Kenwood was quite out of date. I updated it, but unfortunately, it did not help the problem.

If the phone is rooted you could try loading up a 6.0 ROM and see if that works, if not you may have to bug HTC and Kenwood.

I contacted Kenwood, and their response was that the phone is not on the USB compatibility list, and thus there is no guarantee that it will work. Their compatibility list is rather lame....

The only other thing you could do is hope HTC or Kenwood releases an update that fixes the problem or try an Android 6 ROM if the phone is rooted.
How is your bluetooth streaming? I have a Tmobile HTC 10 and have audio skipping issues with any of the newer Kenwood decks. It works perfectly with the BT515HD a 2014 model, I upgraded to the new KDC x701, skipping issues, switched to the top of the line KDc x998, another early 2014 model, streams perfectly but tags on apps like Pandora don't go through. Switched again to the new release of what I started with, BT518HD, bluetooth streaming skipping issues. I f you can stream perfectly, I'd like to try the firmware you are currently on.
