Please help!!!!
I have an Orange M3100 (Hermes 100 /TyYN) which is running WM6 (LVSW Edition).
My device synchronises with my computer running Vista and Mobile Device Center 6.1
I purchased the HTC TyTN Y Cable (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=145071) to allow me to charge and unit and use the Hermes as MP3 player in the car.
The cable didn't work until I installed the following driver - http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/htctytn.html
I used this instruction hack to get the driver installed -
http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?i=145071&thread=1
I have attached the cab file I used to this thread.
The cable now works perfectly in the car BUT this morning I connected the Hermes with the normal USB lead to my computer and I can't sync. The following message appears on the phone:
To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer.
Any ideas?? I need to use synch for work purposes so I really stuck.
There is no uninstall (remove programs) for the driver and I really don't want to reflash a new rom if it can be avoided. (This is the worse case scenario.)
Thanks!
WM6 ROM with Driver
Just a thought is there a WM6 ROM with this driver already integrated???
The driver you've posted, maybe disable the "transfer data check" when power is connected.
The Y cable HAS NOT the pins 4&5 (on its mainboard are 1&2) jointed, so before the driver installation, the pda was unable to charge.
Note: if you connect a cable with pins 4&5 jointed, the sync doesn't work
When you've installed the driver, maybe it has disabilited the "data check" (from USB DATA pins) and "joint check" (pins 4&5) and something goes wrong..
Need more tests, with and without the Y adapter, however all should be ok with an HReset (and you've to joint the pins into the Y cable, that you cannot use to syncronize)

Thanks for the reply.
The Y cable is only used in the car (for audio out and charging) so the Y cable is not used for the computer sync. I simply use the standard computer usb sync cable to synch with the computer. I did however try using the Y cable for the computer sync and it didn't work.
Most bizarrely the computer sync worked perfectly this morning for no apparent reason - I definately didn't change any settings. The only thing is I didn't connect the Hermes to the car enroute home. I wonder does the driver get confused switching between the Y cable and standard USB synch cable - maybe the device requires a soft reboot between switching between Y cable and USB cable?
I'll try it over the next few days and report back on the findings.
I am running Black Edition 3.0.1 and before installing your cab, my y-cable didn't work. I just installed it and my sync with Vista still works perfectly fine as well as the y cable!
So no problem here at all.

I get a rather frustrating mesaage when I connect my O2 Exec via the USB port. It takes about 3 time before the connection with the comp finally happen.
The message is - 'USB Device not recognised' ' One of the USB devices has malfunctioned ........'.
Does anybody else have this problem and can anybody help?
Yep
I get the same problem but only with one PC. It happens on either USB port and is not helped by adding a USB hub. As such i am investigating the problem as if it is PC based.
Is this with ActiveSync or CardExport? Either way try rebooting PC first, wait for it to finish loading Windows. Power off your Universal, connect cable to Universal and PC then power on Universal. Seems to work okay for me. If you are using CardExport, remember you can't change modes while connected.
Regards
I have an O2 xda mini and that connects first time every time.
Found it strange that the Exec did not do same!
I have this on one PC - make sure the XDA is turned off first. Then plug the USB cable in and it should power up by itself and get recognised by the PC.
Also make sure you are using the very latest ActivSync (4.1 I believe).
Thanks lads - connect the cable while the Exec was off and it cobnnects first time. Good stuff!!
Why is that?
I think its the phone not the pc that is at fault, as i had a usb car charger and a usb power charger, both using a standard usb lead and the same fault applies, obviously just charging, AS wouldnt happen would it lol.
me missus just got a wizard and none of these faults occur on it
I concur that the plugging in USB while Uni is switched off is much more successful. Can I check with you guys - can you activesync by USB while bluetooth is on? I've not been successful with that.

ports working in order to get the latest Activesync to work properly?
My Desktop PC currently has an issue where the USB2.0 controller isn't working as I cannot locate the correct drivers to install. Whenever I plug a device in, I get the 'This device could perform faster if connected to a USB2.0 port .. blah blah..' message.
I want to install some programs onto my colleagues Exec and when I plug in the cable I get 'this device is not recognised' message..
So does the PC HAVE to have a working USB2.0 controller in order for Active sync to work correctly?!
Cheers!

i only have usb 1.1 on this laptop and it all works fine, my work lappy has usb 2 and that works fine, but quicker!!
try pluggin in the usb when the jasjar has been off for over 10 seconds, i used to have to do that until the latest rom was out.

How 'bout trying synching through Bluetoooth or Irda ??
connecting to my PC...
Hiya !
Thanks so far!..
I've just tried connecting this Exec to my desktop and this time it connected .. weird!
the PC has been rebuilt about 2 weeks ago so it's a fresh install of XP Pro. I just cant locate the correct USB2.0 drivers that's all.
Connect up the Exec and it just connected, punch in the password and I get the confirmation of connection.
I run my TomTom install and i get past the first few splash screens until it gets to the confirm to install - usually at this point, clicking next will 'talk' to the PDA and then ask if you want to 'install in the default locations' (at least thats what it does on my Xda2i)
Here is just craps out with a windows error asking me if i want to send the error to MS.
bit weird huh guys?!!
Hmm what makes you believe you don't have the correct drives? From what you are seeing my guess is you have a USB 2.0 hub that you are plugging into a USB 1.2 port. The message is attempting to tell you that the hub would work faster if it was connected to a USB 2.0 port.
The JasJar as far as I know is NOT a USB 2.0 device, and should not give you this message. I've got a USB 2.0 hub that if I plug into my computers USB 1.2 port will generate this message, even with this message the JasJar will sync. Note that a JasJar with a low battery can trip the max amps draw that a hub will support and be disconnected from the HUB, preventing you from syncing.
Hiya!
Dah 54 - The reason I know that the USB2.0 controller drivers are not installed is that I can see in Device Manager that there isn't a USB 2.0 Controller installed! - The reason I know it should be there is that before my PC rebuild 2 weeks ago, I HAD it there. The drivers are a problem to locate for this motherboard. It hasn't anything to do with USB2.0 external hubs at this stage. Once I get the USB 2.0 controller installed, I can test by plugging in my various external hard drives, USB mem sticks, etc etc. Once I know they work, I can then re plug my external USB2.0 hubs I use to connect all my peripherals together !
I think the boosting up of the battery did the trick, once it had some power, it continues to charge the battery and I could then indeed sync easily. I've installed a couple of required apps now, it's only the TT5.1 i'm having problems installing...
I'll see what else I can do for now...
Cheers!

What is the motherboard?
Hi,
I am using QtekS200 G4 .When I connect to the USB in one of the pcs where Activesync 4.5 is intalled I am able to sync once or twice after which I get this error in PC USB device not recognized.I am not able to connect to PC then on.I tried reinstall ActiveSync...Rebooted etc...The problem persists.
try another USB cable or try it with other device,
I had this problem with my friend PC, and it was his USB cable, hope it is the cable, the cheapest thing to replace
but my advice try the qtek aku 2.2 ROM with SPL 2.20, it has nothing to do with this but it is for your device
The device is charging via the USB...Anyways....Let me see...When I reboot the Qtek it connects and i am able to sync....Once I disconnect after this and connect the problem crops up...
it maybe your PC, try with another PC, and please update to last bios for you mother. it maybe your PC, I'm not sure.
and it could be your phone, but I don;t think so,
do you have SP2 if you use windows XP, try to have SP2, it has a lot of fixing for USB driver.
by the way, USB cable has 4 wires, 2 for electricity and 2 for data transfer, charging doesn't mean it is not defective.
Problem Solved.....I have two USB good condition USB cables though .......A hard reset did the trick.......
great, I would say it is your computer, casue when restarting the computer fix the problem
good it is working now
I tried rebooting the pc....reinstalling activ sync.....soft reset.......Everything failed to work......Hard reset did the wonder otherwise I would have to sync via bluetooth forever .....Before purchasing any hardware i suggest a hard reset for any nagging issues....
I`ve TYTN and one day it stopped sychro via cable...
I plug cable - its starting charging but ASych stay absolutly quite (any notification any problem connecting) . Like I didnt plug cable
Ive made a Hrd reset , change cable but situation tha same .
any solution, please.
Did you reboot your pc? Did you try another USB device (USB port broken)? Did you reinstall activesync?
That's what i would try....
Try reinstall the active sync software. maybe the usb driver was corrupted
Because it can charge,so maybe the cable is OK( and the voltage is enough, some cable with too much voltage lose will not give enough current when pluged so that can not charge ) , problem should be of the software.
Besure if you have multi user environment. Only one user can use Activesync on Windows XP platform.
Do reinstall Activesync and do check the usb cable with any other computer nearby you if you are not living in desert.
I actually am having a similar problem connecting my AT&T 8525 to my computer. It charges, but won't sync. I had to start using Bluetooth in order to connect.
on the tytn go to settings -> connections -> usb to pc and untick the box
After connecting Wizard to PC running MS Win XP, PC fails to recognise Wizard. Using USB cables from two different manufacturers. It's like Wizard isn't connected. Charging is all right, but no ActiveSync. Nothing shows up in Device Manager, green ball in sys tray does not spin. Can anybody do the needful, please?
First, make sure the USB port on the computer works with another device.
Second, test the phone with ActiveSync on an ACTUAL Windows machine. If that doesn't work, your USB port on the phone may be damaged (this is a common problem with Wizards). Verify it works in ideal conditions first. There are threads here that discuss repair of the miniUSB connector.
More info: I'm running a fresh WinXP pro install. How do I fix the USB port? I couldn't find a thing on the forums.
