Hi All,
Well I've kicked off my first windows mobile project with a progam I call "WordNetCE". If anyone is familiar with Princeton University's program called WordNet you will know you can use it as a brilliant dictionary/thesaurus, amongst other things that are beyond a normal human's intelligence.
One thing I've found lacking for Pocket PC is a decent free dictionary/thesaurus, so I've set out to make one based upon WordNet which is free to distribute from Princeton. A person named Malcolm Crowe did the original .NET port for WordNet 1.6, so I modified it to work with the new WordNet 2.0 dictionary, as well as with the Pocket PC platform (it wasn't all copy & paste...).
It's free to download from http://www.ebswift.com/PocketPC/WordNet/.
Note though that I have only just barely kicked this project off, but the dictionary side of things is operating. You will find much of the other functionality isn't working, but will come online soon.
Please check it out and start giving me some feedback. Thanks.
Just fixed up a lot more of the functionality - it's more useable compared to what it was before if anyone had a chance to look. A couple of buttons are still not complete, as with most of the main menu, but it can do about 20 times more than what it could this morning.
Look very promising!
Just one question: Is it mandatory to store the WordNet database onto a storage card, or can I store it on internal RAM too?
the cab installer didnt work on my xda. T-mobile wm2003

At the moment it's mandatory, but there's no reason why I can't add an option. Not many people will be able to use main memory because the database is ~over~ 30 meg!

I wonder why? I'm using the T-Mobile 4.01.16 ROM on an XDA 1 and installed the CAB with no problems. Are you using an XDA 2? I'm not sure if there's any difference with the CAB installers between XDA1/2, or maybe there's corruption in the download file, I'll check tomorrow. VS.NET outputs CAB's for all the difference PPC processors, so I'll put them up ASAP to cover other devices than the XDA1.
Thanks for the feedback
Here's a screenshot that's also on the website :

I'm really sorry about that, my download algorithm had a response.end, so a "Thread Aborted" was being tagged onto any download. Changing that to Response.Flush seems to have fixed it, at least for that cab file.
Please give it another go, I do appologise for coming up with such a thread with a screwed download.

Hey man, no appologies needed. Great work, thanks for the great freeware. It worked great.
Thanks Iggy. Bear with me for a few minutes if there's any problem with the download, I'm just writing some referrer protection into downloads. It won't take long.
===OK, the referrer protection is finished and it's all working again...
I just uploaded a version I call 0.5 because it's 0.5% finished. Compared to the version since I posted last in this thread there's some major bugfixes; the adjective and adverb menus now correctly show, and there's versions for different processors.

sorry ebswift, the download links don't seem to work, and once you have fixed them what is the difference between arm & arm4 (xda ii maybe). let me know when it is fixed.
The download is now fixed ~again~...
I already responded to Iggy, but just so the group knows, ARMV4 is the one that seems to be uploaded to my device during debug sessions, so I can safely say that ARMV4 is somehow newer than ARM. So I guess anything XDA1 or upwards can use ARMV4. I have had both working on my XDA1 and I can't see any difference in operation, although I haven't tested for performance.
Nice job brother. Now works perfectly
Well I added the little convenience of the keypad popping up automatically, and popping away on lost focus. There's also a couple more menu items in operation. It's really not far away from working completely, most of the technical stuff is out of the way.
Just downloaded and tried, excellent work. Thanks for setting up the keyboard, makes it a lot easier. Looking forward to the final version, but so far excellent.
I just upgraded to 0.53 so the history works (or should work).
I'm really happy the way this project is going.
All features operating
I have just uploaded WordNetCE .99 with ALL features now operating. Please update to that version and let me know if there's any bugs. Thanks!
For those of you who tried that latest download and found it didn't work, it is now patched, you should be able to get it up and running now.

Okay here's my challenge to you...
I came across this link over at XDA:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=391825.
So I did a little Google'n to see where this phone was available...and of course it's not available to us telecommunication-ally challenged US folks.
So here's the company that sells them; but of course they're in Dubai:
http://www.iteqonline.com/en_index.asp
After some more research I found the new updated ROM for this phone, and so I proceeded to unpack it so I could find the applications I wanted.
So--my challenge to you is who can provide for us the following applications from this ROM?
1. Answering Machine (Figure 7)
2. Background Effects (Figure 11)
3. Phone Recording (Figure 12) - granted I don't think this will work on the phone I want to try it on
4. Java Applet (Figure 27)
5. Voice Recorder (Figure 30)
6. Filter SIM and Send DTMF (Figure 20)
7. Magnifier (Figure 24 and 25)
All items should be in their own respective cab files for easy install for anyone who wishes to use it.
Thanks and Good Luck!
You can download the dumped rom from here
You'll need 7-Zip to unzip the archive. 7-Zip is available at http://www.7-zip.org/

On the Answering Machine....
First the Wizard has a hardware limitation that prevents call recording unless you are using speakerphone. I would assume this would eliminate the Answering Machine ability.
Second, my assumption would be that it would be in the PhoneDialer App. So you would need to install their Phone.dll and the control panel applet for the settings.
Third, a registry dump would be useful to see any hooks to the AnswerMachine.dll.

Any thoughts on where to get the registry dumps?
I'll do some more Google'n
I would love to see someone rip out the answering machine. I think a lot of people woudl find this very useful...
I just took the java app (exe) out of the dump and dropped it in my storage card on my mda. it seems to start up fine. i dont have any jar files handy to try out. It shows an option to install them from either the storage card or "my documents". Im no tech wiz but it seems like someone who knows what they are doing could get all of these features, or maybe some of them from this to work on a wizard.

Due to the hardware design of the Wizard, WM5 has no access to the incoming audio stream. bluetooth routing is also done independent of the OS as I understand it. There simply is no way to 1) send audio out to the GSM Phone conntection or 2) record to other person.
The idea of an answering machine on your Wizard is a pipedream.
Previous post deleted.
Nice challenge, I'm interested in the answering machine.
I would be interested in the Cyberon Voice Commander which appears to add a lot of features to the relatively inferior voice speed dial we have. Also the Easy-Touch Menu would be nice, it adds the option of phone profiles and a few other handy items on one menu. It looks like it's a non resident program also so it would be handy for our performance challenged phones.
I don't have any experience with ROMS, otherwise I would attempt this myself. Is this possible?

Wow I am glad I didn't know this when I downloaded and installed PMRecorder. Although the calls are quiet (unless using speakerphone) they can still be heard. But I assure you they work. If we could get the answering machine to turn on the speakerphone automatically, we could even screen calls!
Maybe the answering machine is a new upgrade to Voice commander!
I've seen a screenshot a while back here, and got curious about a battery status application called BattMon from a Chinese developer. After talking with hkpeople by PM, I finally got my hands on it, only to realize it's not in English but in Chinese instead.
I've burnt my eyelids searching for a way to translate the program to WWE, but haven't been successful so far, because I can only find the application on Chinese forums, which is unreadable to me (and also needs registration).
By editing the exe with a resource editor, I've analized the file and I'm thinking it may also have some sort of settings pannel (maybe by executing the exe with some parameter, unknown to me so far).
So, what I need is someone that can provide me with the author's contact (e-mail, msn, yahoo... some kind of messenger, etc), so I can ask for his permission to edit it, and also would need all the program visible texts translated into English.
Tomorrow I'll be posting some screenshots of the things I'd like to translate. I'll also need someone with a device running a Chinese ROM so you can see what to translate (because in my device i can only see squares)
For now, you guys can think about this and tell me what you think, and if you're willing to help.
[EDIT]
Well, thanks to devilteki, this is starting to look better, as you can see in the screenshot:
But there's still something bugging me, because as I said before, in the resource editor, I can see some sort of settings panel, which I still don't know how to use or what it's written there. See the screenshot:
Why make the menu, if you're not gonna use it?
I've tried to translate it.
But due to the default language was not tranditional chinese.
some of the meaning there, I could not totally understand, and i'm also not good at English
Please tried and might give me the right sentences or words you think .
just before this thread was created i have tried this but due to chinese i have uninstalled it. the version i had was suplied by holyfox. so if yoy need anything he might be able to help you, drop him a pm.

Sure, I'm well aware of that, but since I'm thinking of using this program as a complement of my battery icons, it's not really a problem.
In fact, it will make me realize more quickly that I have pending notifications to check.
Try this
CAPTION "Setting"
LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US
FONT 9, "Tahoma"

This is a no go. It doesn't so nothing.
And I've also found another problem with this nice little program.
We can't use VGA icons (32x32 pixels instead of 16x16 pixels). The program will only display a quarter of the icon. Damn!!!!
I'm aware of another similar application, called GS battery monitor (GSbmon - Green Software battery monitor), which allows the use of 32x32 pixel icons, but it'll not display the battery status from 0% to 100%. It's like the stock battery indicator.
I have what seems to be the source code of the app, but I have no programing skill whatsoever, so, if the author of the program reads this, or anyone is willing to take this project on, it would be awesome!!
Yes, this is a really nice looking app. The icon match the diamond style. Let me know if you need helps in any Chinese translation. (PM me)
On Tweakers.net I found a post about a nice app for the iPhone. It shows how much minutes/text-messages you have left in your current contract period. It retrieves the information right away from the T-Mobile website as they are the only iPhone-retailer in the Netherlands.
Is an application like this also possible on the Diamond? I know it depends on the fact if the data is retrievable from the website of the operator (supposing not everybody is using T-Mobile ), but maybe some bright minds in here can take a look at it. Would be a great application I think to check your contract-status now and then.
Here’s the link to the post on Tweakers.net (Unfortunately it’s in Dutch): http://tweakers.net/nieuws/56342/t-mobile-werkt-niet-mee-aan-belstatusapplicatie-iphone.html

Howzeet
Search XDA for lcminutes it might help
i know exacly what you mean.
and no its not something like lcminutes.
its checking the realtime status of the minutes, at the site of the operator. so it depends on off the operator enables this sort of functions
i dunno if it can be done, but... i got a in-between solution for ya..
this is what i have done..
i``m dutch so, i just know this would work...
you can set the igoogle page as the homepage of youre browser. in the igooglepage you can place a widget (thats how they call such apps) called t-mobile belstatus..
then you need to go to the site of t-mobile to activate the widget...
voilia... whenever you start youre browser, you at first see you leftover minutes.
this works for me...
just keep in mind that the widget works with cookies, so dont clean them up otherwise you need to reactivate the widget again...
however, if there are pplz who can develop an standalone app it would be much better to use that instead...

Yeah, something like that is what i'm looking for. The only difference is that this program will count the minutes on its own.
If some Dutch guy knows how to retrieve the data from Hi (like it is possible from T-Mobile) please let me know.
@quark1980
I'm able to add t-mobile belstatus to iGoogle page, but not able to activate it.
Because IE doensn't log in & Opera 9.5 doens't pick up my credentials :-S
How did u do it quark1980?
Thanks in advance?
P.S. would be nice any guru or someone can create the program like for iPhone t-mobile belstatus for WM...
Ok, so my city recently passed a huge ban on cell phone use while driving. I know I can have my phone reac any new message to me wehn it is received and I currently have it set up to do so. However, I have heard of other phone coming with a speech to text feature. Is there a wway to get something like this on the TPS where I can speak the reply to a text and be able to send it that way?
I don't know of any specific apps that do this, but I'm sure they're out there considering Bling and Google Maps have this technology.
I dont recomend trying to text while driving & dont like applications where you use voice commands but you should try this one
Code:

(not free but you could try the tial) it lets you control your whole phone by voice and you could add custom commands but im not sure if you could set it up to reply to sms.
ps: by the way nice to see another member from el paso

i had it on my phone ported from i think a samsung device.
it didnt fit too well with the screen resolution and whatnot, but it worked.
although it doesn't work if you have an accent or if you want to send messages to someone who has a rather unusual name
i went to a At&T store for help with something with a friend, he had and still has a verizon blackberry curve but anyways one of the associates there had a blackberry and showed him a whole buch of apps he got from a certian website (dont remember what it was) and one of them was a talk to text app and it work almost perfectly. ive been searcing for an app like that for windows mobile ever since then and that was almost 2 yrs ago!!!! i also just found out a few days ago from my girlfriend that theres a app like that for her iphone. i seriously dont know what microsoft is doin but they need to step their game up and to all the developers out there, you need to beat them to the punch!!!

I use TellMeText Version 1.1.0 on my Rhodium Touch Pro 2. It installs and works okay. If the installation crashes, the best thing is to redownload it until it works fine. Also try the app on different ROMS.
I have used it on ARK_N's ROMS as well as on Leo Cell ROMS.
Make sure (I think) you install BlondieSoft_MobileCertificates cab prior to the intallation of the TellMeText cab.
Hopefully this should help.
Why not sooner.
If someone can rip the install from the Samsung Intrepid I think we can get something going.
The only other option is Vlingo and it is buggy at best, you can search the forums and people have had spotty success with it.
This could be a real difference breaker at this point in time in the Mobile Phone wars, I don't know why someone hasn't jumped on it and capitalized, tons of apps already use voice recognition (bing, google) for driving directions, I don't know why in a world where people are dieing left and right from txting while driving someone hasn't jumped on this.

The tell me ap works for some and not for others.. I believe it has something to do with the carrier you are with. That said.. you guys are probably better of going over to the tell me thread and reading through that to figure out how to get it working on your phone. I personally gave up. It would install fine on multiple roms I was running and as soon as I would to go speak a text to it it would just hang then give me some error.
Regardless... no sense in having multiple threads about the same thing!
Do a search in the Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps forum and you'll find it.

TellMe does not work for AT&T customers on their network on anything but BlackBerry. I ran a packet trace and the packets leave the phone but there is NO response.

You need to install microsoft voice command FIRST then this. Just search, the cabs are posted.
