Anonymous data collection, On or Off by default - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hey guys, I would like to get your collective feedback on whether it is OK to have anonymous data collection turned on by default.
I can see pros and cons for either way but would like to know what the collective thinks.
Please vote. Thanks.

Well I don't even know what anonymous data it sends out to Google. In any way, I don't trust them with it.

Post your Latitude and BUZZ info! [HERE]

I'm looking at doing a stress test on the Nexus one with latitude and to help promote BUZZ even more in the development world. I simply have always wanted to add as many people as I could and I figured they're are others out there so with all that said, if you're ballsy enough post up your email for latitude.
If you would like to add me mine is dahui9_at_gmail_dot_com.
(for the sake of bots I have edited my emails layout) Let's see what you have boys and girls and "I am not responsible for anyone" that post anything or follows me.

All in all it is a break down of whats going on around you. say you're at a resturant and you really enjoy it and want to get the word out. BUZZ about it, and when you do you can take a picture to show people where it is and it geotags the location. its as simple as that! Its up to the community to report what's going on and what they think about certain subjects.
Example..
I went to the mall today and it was really busy
"02/23/2010 tThe mall was really busy today stand clear unless you specifically need to come"
It then geotags the location you are at.
-Charlie
sounds cool but i still think some people may have insecurities about their anonymousness, ie dont like people knowing where they actually are in the world... most people like hiding behind their device or computer screen
You could always hide your location to the person who invites you.
I agree with you but this is an open invatation for all those who see no risk in showing where they are. You can always turn sharing off thats the best part about latitude.
Example again.
My Girlfriend, to lazy to turn gps on so I can actually find her when she is lost in the middle of nowhere.
2 requests so far and both accepted (Don't forget to BUZZ about locations you find)
see you all tomorrow I need some sleep...

I've been Buzzing off and on a little since it started. There are only a few others around me that do it too, all of them on Iphones, found ONE guy on a nexus. I don't have any friends with Android, so no one on my latitude list. I'm considering doing this...

Will there ever be an appless rom available

I just wonder...
Isn't the whole OS supposed to be absolutely customizable??
I understand apps like phone and contacts must still exist.
The impression I have is that people want the ability to have a completely clean app tray... I know I'd like one that is specifically seperate from Phone, Contacts, SMS, and Voice Mail.
I also wish I had a clean slate for widgets.. I wish all my ring tones were gone.. I wish all the wall Papers were gone. I wish the boot animations were gone..
I don't even want the "market" app visible.. I want the option to go into the market by hitting them menu button while in my apps tray and I not only want market to perform the function of searching for apps but I want it to be have a searchable directory for apps, widgets, ringtones, wall papers, boot animations.. etc.
It would also be extremely awesome if the essential codes for the essential programs were coded into the main code instead of these apps.. so that even the native essential apps I listed could be swapped out.
I think it should be done.. And I think a new repository should be made for a new market place where the XDA elite could build the programs and leave these other guys who are doing nothing for the OS as a whole but flooding the market place... they can take a f'ing hike..
You guys should leave them on the back burner and then give me .1 cent ( cause I am freaking poor) of all your sales while we head a internet market campaign aimed at recruiting all android users over to the faster more customizable base model with an XDA market place.
Seriously.. you guys could charge access to the market place and get the service going like one of those other services that bill your cell bill..
Screw those other developers... you guys making the roms are the bread and butter of what will make android what it is...
And any developer who wants to publish programs on your better version of code.. you should charge them a fee....
and then you should lock up the code for your customized version of the OS and take a decade to release it.
I seriously want a 10th of a cent on every dollar for my thought.. its a billion dollar market... you guys could take it imo.
And as you do you could hire more people to work to get it functioning on every smart phone that hits the market.
You guys should do it.. I need a cool million and you guys need a cool billion... cut them out of the picture and make apple struggle.. i heard they are going to emulate the android OS or something on the iphone so users can switch between OS...
F it... rename the whole OS "Jack dRoid"

omfg, that makes 2 of us...
Why??
What is customizable by a regular user??
Wall papers and widget placement????????
I despise the flooded market place that struggles to accustom a bunch of different versions of one OS.
I also despise the fact that the people doing the real developing work, are probably having their work stolen all the while others are just flooding the market place with junk trying to profit... not to mention the people here are the best customer service you can get.
It personally pisses me off.
If you guys think the pieces of the pie are in the right hands then either A. You are stealing others work and you work for someone getting a big piece of the pie or B. You are making contributions and getting nothing for it and need to check your self value.
Nobody is bringing me apps2SD,tethering, themes, roms, 2.1 but the people here...
The rest are just beating around the bush providing crappy customer service while refusing to even provide me with the option to change the way my dialer looks,. all the while providing ridiculous salaries to a bunch of slackers.
If I'm not correct just say it instead of trying to troll the thread as if its ridiculous to think or even partake in the discussion.

I see no point in 'confronting what you said, directly' since it's obvious you're quite..um...passionate about your view point. There can be no honest discussion in that event since the standard rebuttal is always 'Well you're an idiot, and you're wrong' to anything that's said against the original post. As I said, I choose not to get involved in a discussion of that sort.

Samsung deleted my comments in their facebook wall

Guess what, they conveniently removed my comments from their facebook wall.
Any one experience similar from samsung facebook?

My friend work in a marketing firm which specialises in online marketing and stuff. She has the control of the Samsung India Facebook account. Its possible that Samsung employees may have a look at it ocassionaly but most of the times it is handled by other persons for promotions. So it is more likely that your comment was marked as spam by people and thus deleted rather than being deleted by Samsung India coz they dont control the account!

Maybe I was impolite, but I don't think they should delete it as its not spam.
I really expect more from a high end phone, and if there are issues, samsung should address it to keep the consumers happy, rather than deleting customer complaints.
On my part, may be its frustration of making the wrong choice...idk.
I am still going back to nokia 5800 for listening music and internet radio and map navigation, I did not plan to do this after buying galaxy s.
i post very often on their wall, and i get feedbacks, they usually answer pretty good if you are polite

Keep your gunpowder dry. If you are going to complain, it's best to do so politely and well-documented. Those posts influence potential buyers more, and is mentally harder to delete for those living, breathing humans that are managing the facebook page.

you should likely change the topic from" Samsung deleted my comments in their facebook wall" to "My Comments got deleted off Samsung Wall" since Samsung is 99% likely not the one that removed it.
Egh, it wasn't meant to be a quote.. It was just an example.. Just saying, if you are polite to them, they will be probably respond..
Point taken, thanks

pluses: NO GAMES, whoriscopes i mean horoscopes, and or crappy as question things. i like how i can post a thing for my friends or my work colleagues which includes my boss (i work in an IT dept so we are all nerds and wanted it) with out sharing to much or what ever. honestly im just glad its not facebook i had been only keeping for the point to keep in contact with people that have moved away and inviting them to google was easy
cons: ummm invite only? ha jk its blown up as is so im happy. I feel as if i am selling my soul to google but if thats true i have done that awhile ago so too late now
the only thing really i think that needs to be added is that we need a way for events and functions to be added to google calender or something. like facebook (i know i hate it but it works)
oh im a keep pushing that we should all leave facebook at a semi coordinated time

I totally agree, with the selling your soul to Google. If Goog made it, I will pretty much be inclined to like it. I guess, I'm a Goog FanBoy? Ant-Apple as well.
Also, can't agree with you more on Google+, it's got a little bit of a learning curve. Mainly because we are all creatures of habit, and there are a few differences from FaceBook, but overally am liking it more and more. Also, worthy of mention is the fact that their Adnroid App, is WAY better hands-down, than FaceBooks.
I am Pro-Simplicity when it comes to the web, and Google is the epitamy of simplistic design. Plus, I was getting totally annoyed with all those stupid Farmville request. Especially when I see a pop-up from a friend that says "I need Help" in the title. So you automatically think, oh, I should look at that right away. Only to find out, your supposed friend was playing some bakery/store game and is asking you to give them some flour or something. Lame.
So far it's been really great. Much simpler interface than FB, more web 2.0 if you will...
I'm hoping a LOT of people get on board and give FB a run for their money. I don't hate FB, but it's pretty clear there needs to be SOME competition to the Zuckerburg juggernaut.

You actually only have to deal with that once. You can hide all posts regarding any app or game and you don't have to deal with that rubbish again.
i would have to agree with what i am reading i just wanted to hear some other peoples thoughts... lots of pros and i have yet to really find a con other then i am wanting more people to jump on board so i can see where the app will lead!!! LOVE THE SIMPLICITY and the fact that.... well.... everything seems to work unlike facebook!!!! its social network at its finest without all the crap from what i have seen!!!!...... and actually i think Google already owns our android loving souls at this point, I'm sure its in the fine print somewhere....lol

Back to topic, the resounding answer to your question is a YES! I Like it! It's a social network that got it right and its not Facebook!
Simple Elegant UI and I love the auto upload of photos shot on your phone from the app, its a nice way to bacup automatically to the cloud.
In the app also, the "nearby" tab on the stream is golden if you ask me, it allows you to see peoples public post around the location in which you are at the moment, allowing you to get in the conversation with new people and knowing is somebody close by and might be somebody that you already seen around or something.
It's Golden!

Yes this is total BS. It just proves that the powes that be aren't interested in following the same guidelines they set forth for others. This particular action isn't just an infringement of rights, it's a clear abuse of power. They have no interest in fair and just. This is a clear indicator that if we let them continue down this path, one day we shall all be asking for permission to use our once freedom of speech. They hide their attack of our rights by saying that certain individuals were pirating. But in reality it's the same as confiscating your home, and every house in your neighborhood. Because a person three blocks over might be stealing cable. In essence it is downright ludacris.

The FBI site didn't even go down, basically, they're not as amazing as they thought. In a way I want to see them prevail but it's inhumanly possible, I can only imagine that they'll eventually be found and arrested, sparking conversy and if anything that'll light the fire for the fight against these bills, and overall a new outlook on human rights.

Yup, the whole reason they attacked megaupload was because of all the sites like this one protesting against SOPA. Hello even google protested against it. It just goes to show how much of a bully our government can be when people speak their minds. It's like them saying "you don't have rights to free speech or to decide what we the fed government do" or "we make the laws not you the people".

Yup looks like even sites that are US based can/will get shut down by the US. Over the years i've come to hate us(america) and all the bull**** we "stand for" I see why everyone hates us and i'm really thinking about moving to Canada or some place else in the upcoming years
Sending an attack directly to fbi.gov is really dumb and childish. It's also a great way to get caught. I'm pretty sure they'll get traced back pretty quickly.

Yeah but the problem is most of them are located in other countries hiding behind proxies. And a lot of isp's don't want to co-operate, and tech they don't have to if they are in certain countries. That's why they call themselves anonymous because it's really hard to find them. Trust me they've gotten smarter since the last time people got arrested. I've done my research on it.
