Tom Tom Navigator - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

Ok, really newbie here and portuguese. Search already for my doubts, but no concrete answer. Have a htc nike aka touch dual and would like to install gps on it. At least the program itself, cause read already that probably have to buy an external bluetooth device to capture the sattelites signal. Questions: 1- Is it possible? 2- Have preference on tom tom. Which version (cracked one)? 3- Tried to install tom tom navigator 7.916.9189 (qvga black), but when i connect to tom tom home it doesn't detect the phone or the software(tom tom). Anybody knows why? Oh, by the way, i also did the same operation with a polaris 200 aka Xda Orbit 2 and everything is running wonderful. Thanx.

Try another version of TomTom

Install gpsgate. Simple as that. The software cost money but the trial version should have all the feature you need.

I can install and run garmin app in my device. It have to attach to external gps to connect to satellite, without it, we still can routing our trip, but we must follow the route manually. With this app, I can find my way home everytime i go out there..
Sorry for my bad english, just want to share my exp..

I use it with my bluetooth GPS (v 3.07)... No problem

how do you get tom tom working ?
it keeps telling me to instal maps, wich i already did
Did you use official map installs or warez?
the map that comes with the tom tom software, you first install the navigator app and then you can install maps, then i install the netherlands and want to start tom tom on my mda and it says that i should install maps from the cd first
I had this, I think it happened because I installed everything at once without clicking the "ok" buttons on the PDA after each app installed (i.e it installs about 5 things, tom tom nav, tom tom gps, tom tom wizard, tom tom maps etc). If you dont click ok after each one it can get confused and not install the map.
Uninstall the map using activesync add/remove, then re-install it from the cd, making sure to click ok on the pda if it asks you.
If that doesnt work uninstall the whole lot using activesync, soft reset, then install from scratch but make sure to keep an eye for ok buttons on the pda while installing.
Also make sure you have enough memory, the maps are big (16mb, 32mb, 64mb and 128mb...dont know how big the netherlands one is).
Jez.
well its working now i think it was because the memory card i installed it on was not empty, i used an empty card now and everything is working
I cannot get it to install completely, as soon as i click on install it finds my JAM and an error message appears saying something about "File hierarchy" and tomtom support say that JAM is not a compatible phone for the navigator system. Can anyone help
anybody try the tomtom BT GPS?
works good for me with tomtom3 and blue tooth tomtom GPS.
first i had problem to install but it was because i use a USB hub.tomtom need a direct connection to install (there is a faq on TomTom site).
after to connect the bluetooth GPS ,you open Tom tom navigator , you ve got to go on the icone GPs state, then in Gps Folder choose "TomTom Wireless GPS" in the first window and "Bluetooth GPS" in the second.
good luck...
my jam always seems to freeze on tomtom 3.07 after a while im on v1.11 and bluetooth patch using an globalstat BT GPS :\ fecking thing

Your freezing problem is prob because of your choice of memory cards, certain cards work well some not @ all, lotsa threads about this.
yeah i just found that out i have a peak ultra 60x high speed 1gb sd and a 256mb simpletech one the simpletech one works great but yet the 1gb one freezes
I am using the TomTom BT GPS w/ my Jam too.
But I am not using the Tomtom software (since I found Routis V2 is much better for voice prompt and routing in US). I don't even need to install the GPS driver. Just pair it once and it will connect eveytime I open up my GPS software.
Four things about Tom Tom on JAM:
1. It seems to be equally as buggy as the rest of the JAM so no knowing when wierd stuff happens whether or not it is TomTom or the JAM or something else. That said when you do get it going, it does work nicely most of the time. Some intermittent weird behaviour:
- sometimes won't change maps
- keeps turning JAM back on when I turn it off. Have to close TT3 to get it to stop.
- without a power source, screen keeps going dark
- occassional BT issues
2. When TomTom doesn't see the maps at all but you know you've installed them, make sure you haven't deleted a file in the root of your SD card called "ignore_my_docs" which is a zero byte file that is hidden. This caused me a bit of pain for a while.
3. Because of my previous issue, I discovered when I emailed TomTom support that TomTom doesn't in fact support this release on the Magician and won't help you if you tell them that is what you have. So if you do need support make sure you give them the name of a device that they do support.
4. TT3 user interface leaves a lot to be desire IMHO, and the one thing that drives me nuts is that I have this SD card full of wonderful maps that I have paid for yet I can't simply type in an address just to look at the map, I have to pretend to make a journey, connect the GPS, blah, blah, blah. The only way around this I found is that if you keep address information in your contacts, you can select the "Show TomTom map" option.
I've TT3 3.07 on my magician with an adapt bt gps and it works fine. You do have to shut down the application as stated above, the device will keep switching on if you don't. But one problem is irritating: I live in Belgium where there is a general speed limit of 120 Km/h. I set the prefs so that the safe speed warns me showing no map but only arrows. If I drive too fast for a while the QTek S100 switches off and sometimes back on if I slow down under 120 Km/h. I didn't have this prob on my other, wired, device.

Will TomTom Navigator 5.x work with the Universal?

Hi, I'm hoping to get the new Windows Mobile 5 device dubbed the HTC Universal, AKA o2 xda Exec.
TomTom tell me TomTom Navigator 5 is NOT compatible with it.
www.mobilefun.co.uk state that it is compatible.
Some people on forums say they have 5.1 working with the device.
Other people state the Bluetooth won't lock in.
Does anyone here know the truth?
Yes it will work
It works. I use TT 5.1 about every day (via a bluetooth receiver). Here's the instructions to install the program.
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28171&highlight=
Go about half way down.
To install your BT GPS receiver. First pair the device. Then add a new COM Port under the Bluetooth settings. You want to add an OUTGOING port. I usually specify it as COM0. Then start up TT5, go into GPS configuration, selct "Other BT Receiver", then select COM0 from the menu. TOMTOM will automatically start up BT (it doesn't have to on before you launch the program), find the already paired receiver and start communicating with (give it some time though. the whole process takes about 30 seconds to a minute).
Hope this helps.
Cool, thanks!
And finally... I assume the Universal can support 2 simultaneous bluetooth connections? E.g. can I use TomTom with the bluetooth GPS at the same time as speaking on a bluetooth car kit?
To keep things simple
Tomtom 5.0 does NOT work with the Universal. Tomtom 5.1 Does. Hpoe this helps
Received my T-Mobile UK MDA PRO today. I can confirm that TomTom 5.1 DOES work great on it with any bluetooth GPS device, although it was a few hours before I stumbled upon a thread in this forum which had instructions on how to get it working
jasjar works fine with tt5.1 and can connect at same time with gps, headset and many bluetooth devices

Yes it does. I have 5.0 running on my JASJAR now. Haven't upgraded to 5.1 yet in case it breaks something.
just replace the tomtom navigator.exe with the 5.1 version, all done.
How on earth did you manage to get TT5.0 to work?
I have tried everything (all the above tricka and then some) and cannot get the right com port to show up from within Tomtom? Can you tell me step by step?

It does work, if you follow the guide in this thread exactly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
However, I had to use COM4 instead of COM0.
I also had a problem where I connected everything to the right COM port, could see TomTom accessing the GPS device by the LEDs, but still "no GPS device found!" - it seems TomTom likes your GPS device better if it's actually locked onto a signal (so go outside!), give all this a try
...talking of TTN5....
Has anyone had any success getting TT working with the Wired GPS mouse? Is there a way to connect it to the Exec...?(mini USB to serial connector?)
If the 2 can be physically connected, does the software see it/connect up properly?
TIA
cheers
Paul
FYI, I emailed TOMTOM about the installer crashing, and guess what they said. "TOMTOM 5 is not supported on the IMATE JasJar."
What a load of cobblers. It works perfectly well if you install it using the cab files. TOMTOM support is the biggest load of s**t I have ever come across.
JJ works fine with the following:
1) Navigon MN 5
2) TT 5.1
3) OnCourse Navigator
4) iGuidance
These have been tried and tested.
Just cause it's not supported it doesn't mean they don't think it'll work. it just means that they won't help you fix it if it goes wrong becuase they have not tested on that platform. always worth a try regardless of what the vendor or devlopers say!
Another MDA Pro with TT5
I just got an MDA Pro a couple of weeks ago, and being the fool I am, bought a copy of Tom Tom 5 from Fleabay (doh!).
On receipt, I could not get the software to load from my PC, and when trying to copy over the cab files manually, the ttn.cab file will not load on the PDA. On closer inspection, this has got something to do with 'Bekonl' so appers I have wasted some money on cracked software that does not work.
Is this right? Or if I can obtain an alternative ttn.cab file, will it load, if so will it be locked? I was just looking for a reasonable low priced SatNav solution - but this is proving to be harder than I thought!
For those of you coming from a WM2003 device you can simply install TomTom on a memory card on that. Take the memory card out and put in Universal. It works. That's it.
I am not unfortunately. I am coming from a Mk1 paper diary, a £3.99 map from the petrol station, and a bullet proof Nokia 6310i!
All help gratefully received though.

If the ttn cab fails to install try this;
uninstall all tomtom entries from remove programs.
Remove sd card from device
install gps.cab
soft reset (this is the important bit)
install ttn.cab

JJ works fine with Oziexplorer, Tomtom5x

Navigon Mobile Navigator 5.0 and 5.1 both works like charm on JasJar and for me it is much better than TomTom already. No problematic installations, works from SD straight ahead, maps are not splitted (the whole Europe is one file), you do not need to switch crossing the borders.
The maps source is better (maps are more accurate than TomTom ones).
I, definitely, recommend it.

Hi surinamer,
I do not think there are is anything special in Navigon config (i use BT GPS receiver).
I've installed Navigon completely and huge European map (~950Mb) to SD. I beleive you need to look at your general WM power and backlit
settings.
Forgot to mention - Navigon eats a lot of RAM - ~20-25Mb. So, free RAM as much as you can.
Regards,
baudy.
Hi Baudy2,
after reading your post I've installed on my xda exec Navigon 5, everything is ok with the installation,BT is automatically found, the only trouble is that when I try to navigate to a place that is about 3-4 Km from me, everything's ok,but if I'll try to set up a trip of more than 5Km the navigator go crazy and told me that I 've reach my destination after just 200 meters.
I've tried to free up as much RAM asi can, but with no results.
Any idea???
Sounds like a real threat for TomTom...
And sorry guys but an idea of installing a whole europe map as an only option is pretty riddiculous for me.
950MB needed even If I never go out of London  .
Have an unique map it's just an option and if you travel all over Europe and drive for more than 1200Km in one day is wellcome...
The real problem is that I've tried TT5 and I've problem with maps not up to date,BT interference with my handsfree...
I try with Navigon and still have troubles....
Is there any software house who is able to provide a software that really works??????
Hi All,
Which of these navigation services offer the best UK traffic information ?
TomTom Traffic uses data from ITIS holdings which generates very accurate traffic flow data... I swear by it!

You've forgot to pay for the Navigon software.
There is no Navigon 5.1 cracked. Only 5.0. So, downgrade to 5.0. It works like charm.

GPS

Does anyone know or is it possable that the MDA is capable of running a GPS? I tried to put TOM TOM on it, but it kept saying can't find any maps. Has anyone had any luck in trying to put one on thier device?
I have a bluetooth GPS receiver and have TOM TOM on a storage card and it runs great. The maps cost money and you can manage them through the TOM TOM home application on your pc.
I have IGo installed and use an Asus BT GPS receiver, works fine.

Most people use Bluetooth GPS receivers for this kind of thing. The wizard does not have a GPS radio in it though, so you have to use an external GPS receiver.
If you're willing to sacrifice accuracy and automation for step-by-step directions that you manually step through, try Google Maps. In addition to being a very good (and very FREE) mapping tool, it can do radio triangulation so, if you're utterly lost, it can at least show you where you are within about 2000 meters. Much better than nothing at all.
I got lost once on the way to an acquaintance's house, and used Gmaps. By typing in the street address where I was lost at, and the desired destination, it got me back on track in a real hurry. Indispensable for those without funds for GPS receivers.

Tom tom home now working with x1

Hi all latest version of tom tom home is now working with my xperia with tom tom 7 installed, including mapshare and have downloaded over 3000 corrections to my map Didn't change anything it just started connecting.
Hm, TomTom allows free updates for maps? I'm still using TomTom 6 but have never updated the maps before. How do I go about in doing that?
Weird...mine worked from the get go...
sorry.. you mean i can buy tomtom7 for x1 now or?
It seems it's touchy - my TTH (2.5) has never connected.
Wish I could get it to connect, and will try again tonight, because a decent GPS program is hard to come by.
Wayfinder wants to download maps over GPRS which is simply unacceptable. Downloading 185 MB maps over GPRS @ approx 50c-1Eur per MB!! (maploader doesn't see the phone, even though WM Device Center sees it)
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you connect to Tomtom Home from within the Tomtom 7 program? I can't see it in any menus.
dont need to just connect x1 to pc with tomtom home running and it will detect it , you dont have to have tomtom 7 running when you connect.

That is if you have lady luck on your side
I agree with the updated version of Tomtom Home I can now connect, and Home can see the phone and SD card. It correctly identifies it as X1i, but won't allow me to buy a map for the device. I'm running 7.910.9185. It can also see the app, free local map and one voice downloaded directly to the device.
On the Tomtom site it also warns "Please note that maps for Navigator 7 are only compatible with devices that have this software pre-installed. Please ensure that you have Navigator 7 installed on your device before purchasing a map. "
...so I'm not really interested in wasting the money unless anyone can verify a method of adding full UK map to an X1 through Home?
Yes wont allow the purchase of maps but if you have the latest map installed already, in allows you to use map share to update the map and adds just under 4000 corrections to your map.
Arrrrrrgh. Still no connection with Tom Tom Home.
I'm running:
R2A0010 UK Generic
TTH: 2.6.1.1549
TT7: 7.910.9185
For those who have it working - what versions are you running?
7.915 9196 tt7
uk map 825 2159
tth 2.6.1.1549
Trying in this thread too, hoping for help...
I've got the same version of TT7 installed on phone, working OK.
But, I can not access my maps bought from TomTom.
They show in TomTom Home (v.2.6), but not downloadable.
TT Home recognizes my xperia, but says it's invalid application installation.
When I asked on an earlier thread I was told I needed install TT7 on SD card, not phone memory. But my installation does not give me any target options...
Sorry for being a noob, but sure hope someone can guide me thru this, going on holiday to the UK monday, would love to have it up and running with maps by then.
If a step by step can be given pls do so, via PM or here.
Thx in advance
when installing tt7 , win mobile gives the option to install on Device (phone) or storage card (SD). Hope that helps.
The version I have also gives me the option for device or SD card.
Finally got TomTom working.. after having actually legally bought the maps, I had to download and crack a pirate copy to be able to use them.
Go figure.
i can't get mapshare to work, it just says mapshare is not supported either for your device or the map you are using. can anyone help with this? i'm using tt7 7.915 9196 and western and central europe maps v815.2034
Im having problem when im loading new poi´s , i have to restart the program after each downloaded poi...
Does anyone else have that problem ?
