Clear Stored Entries - Imagio General

For whatever reason, HTC decided not to include the old word completion on the Imagio. Worse, they chose to delete that tab from the control panel.
So, I've been able to restore word completion (yeah), but I've been unable to find a hack that will clear the stored entries similar to the option on the old control panel tab. Also, no dictionary editors work for WM 6.5. How do I get rid of typos and odd words that are stored? Is my only option a hard reset?

Are you refering to XT9? There is an application that is in the windows folder that has a listing of all the entries made. You can then delete one or all of them.
I created a shortcut to it. et9Mywords.

No, not XT9. I'm referring to the old word completion that probably dates back to PPC 2003.

New Word Docs

Hi Folks
I've broken something. I know, it had to happen. All this "playing around" with my new toy (No, not like that! )
Going to PocketWord and it'll open something that I don't recall putting in there. This turns out to be a file in the "My Documents" called "CONFIG" that had loads of characters that are not letters, you know, like symbols and the like?
If I goto Menu / File / New it gives the message
"A problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened".
I suspect I've deleted something I shouldn't have Help?!

Ok... First I don't think the config file in my documents is vital and I would delete it. (if your concerned about it then copy it somewhere-else and then delete.
On a PC Word uses a template for blank documents called normal.dot but on Pocket Word it uses blank.dot This file should be present in the windows folder in main memory.
After deleting the config file, I would try word again.
If it still fails to open a new wod doc, then look to make sure the template file blank.dot is present.

Hi Mike
I checked and there wasn't a blank.dot file in the windows folder, so I managed to open an word doc I already had, blanked it and saved it as blank.dot where you suggested. I closed word and tried again only to find the same error message.
So does this rule out an error with that side of word, and otherwise what would you suggest?
TIA

This is a little mysterious! Firstly because the original blank .dot is protected and should not be able to be removed normally. I suspect it's become corrupted. Still the replacement should have been ok. However, lets hope all your templates are not corrupted. Open a doc in word and go to menu>tools>options>default template and choose another, say memo. Close out of word and reenter. It should open and when you press new a memo should appear. A bit of a pain but until a better solution comes along you can always delete the memo lines and treat as a blank doc.
Will check around to see if there is another way to replace blank.dot
Mike
Thanks, I've had a look in the options and for "Templates" it is blank. There are NO templates at all on the machine

Good grief what have you been upto - thought I was the only one who manged that sort of thing!!.
Perhaps you could PM POF and see if he knows a way of reinstalling Word or using the ROM cab files to re-install without having to do a full hard reset. Failing this all you could do would be to create your own blank template but it would not automatically open when you tap new because I think New can only be set to one of the four standard templates - Blank, Memo, Metting Notes and one other I forget. Certainly when I created a template and put it in the templates folder it listed the official four but not mine in the drop down list for the new document default template. (i.e the list that's now empty for you)

Ah ha!
I have found that I do actually have some files in the windows directory that are templates.
blank meeting memo phone todo
These did momentarily have Word Template icons moments ago, and tried to go in via Word again but now the icons match up with notes.
blank 0b
meeting 1.55k
memo 2.06k
phone 1.96k
todo 3.02k
Right clicking over "blank" reveals that it is read only. I have tried but I cannot remove the RO flag. I am hoping that because the file is zero bytes then this is causing the problems, which are still there
Onwards eh!
Edit: The 0 byte file is actually a memo file. The Word templates are 7kb apart from Todo which is 14k...

Those file sizes look fine apart from blank.dot which should also be 7kb.
On mine I just checked the templates and they should open directly from the windows directly. They all have word icons.
Mike
I have the notes templates and the word templates. Alas late night scrolling across the PDA got me confused.
Do you know of a way to make the files non read only? I don't seem to be able to change that at all? I've tried in Windows and on the PDA.
Although, I have now fixed the ActivSync issue so it doesn't keep disconnecting Grr Hubs Grr.

Nope, I tried reseting read only tag on both PDA and PC as well, no joy. I have posted a thread asking if anyone knows how to re-install an application without hard re-set. I believe it is possible if you have extended rom cabs showing but which cabs as I do not see one clearly marked Word.cab or something similar. The joys!!!
Mike
Thank you Mike for all your help.
I've not even breached the option of ROMs yet or even dabbled in it, and I don't think I've got the guts to juuuuuust yet
If all else then I shall do a reset, a hard reset.
I seem to have this problem also, interestingly. Today when I tried to open the word mobile program, I got this prompt saying that I can't open a new word document due to some error and brings me to my storage card wif all the word documents which I can open wif ease. What seems to be the problem? Any way I can reinstall this program again without hard resetting? I am pretty sure it's not some software conflicts, maybe I accidentally removed some shared files with memmaid.
YES!! Finally I got it. I shifted my documents folder with the sub folder 'templates' to the storage card before so now I just placed back the templates subfolder to the device's My Documents folder and that basically solved my problem!

PointUI - New Version 1.01b - Now with customization

Here's the new version of PointUI.
New Features
- Weather update frequency now includes "Manual".
- Customisation (yes, we are Aussies so spell it with an 's'): Media Player - ok, a little techy at this stage, but you can now specify the path of your media player in the registry:
- In the key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Pointui\Home\{your version} (i.e. version = 1.01b) create a new String value called App.Path.Media
- You can include in your path {Windows}, {Programs}, {ProgramFiles} which will get replaced with your device specific folders but if you do use them then don't start the path with a backslash
- The path can be to a shortcut or exe, and include spaces, but don't use any quotes
- An example value is: {Windows}\wmplayer.exe
- You don't need to restart Home for this change to kick in
- Customisation: Email account
- You can specify a store name in a String value called App.Email.StoreName
- This will then launch to the specified inbox instead of Outlook mail
- The store name is CASE SENSITIVE
- It doesn't appear to break if you enter a dodgy store name - just doesn't do anything Smile
- Unread message count indicator will be count of TOTAL emails across all accounts
- You NEED TO RESTART Home for this one to kick in
- Customisation: Tasks and Calendar
- You can specify an alternative app for Tasks and Calendar using the registry keys App.Path.Tasks and App.Path.Calendar
- If the alternative app requires command line args then you can supply them with the corresponding keys App.Path.Tasks.Args and App.Path.Calendar.Args
- You don't need to restart Home for this change to kick in
- Customisation: Phone
- To use an alternative dialer (or if your device has the problem of when you click the Phone icon it freezes for 8 seconds, then you can specify an alternative dialer (or any app really) using the registry key App.Path.Phone
- You don't need to restart Home for this change to kick in
- Customisation: Lock Screen
- To use an alternative lock screen application you can set the registry key App.Path.LockScreen. This should provide a workaround for Smartphone users who cannot get out of our lock screen.
- You don't need to restart Home for this change to kick in
Changes
- Clicking calendar icon from Home screen will go to the day view instead of week.
- When browsing applications, sometimes you would see a file called "icon" that didn't launch anything - it's actually on your device and is a real file but is hidden, so hidden files are now excluded from the list.
- Updated fonts to include extended characters.
Bug Fixes
- Support for special folder locations other than the default English ones.
- Phone numbers now include all characters in addition to standard digits.
- When the Phone icon is clicked and there are no phone calls in the history it now works correctly instead of showing a grey bar at the top.
- Japan added to weather locations.
Known Issues
- Not enough time in the day.
- Red Bull wearing off.
- VGA
- Devices without Phones
- Recurring Appointments
- Uninstall - we'll need to get the uninstall sorted out soon. All Pointui apps have a command line switch -uninstall that will prompt it to remove itself, registry settings etc, so you can use Update Manager to uninstall Home (through it's interface), and then get rid of Update Manager with command line. That will still leave the left soft key reverting to Phone, but pretty much everything else should be gone.
Head over to www.pointui.com for more info.
installing now.. thanks
Hi,
This version still doesn't show hebrew letters, Please give a chance to change the software fonts....
to Tahoma, since SEOGE (Or the fon't u'r using) doesn't have the hebrew letters.
Thanks.

Will finally get a chance to test now - was trying to wait for initial bugs to get fixed... Heard lots of great reviews on this app!
Thanks for the changes.
I will try this evening (german time)
This version introduces new problems. I'm enjoying SPB Backup like never before
Anyone had success removing this after install I have tried uninstalling via phone/ computer and it removes it from the list but does not remove the program. I would love not to have to hard reset.
you dont...
after normally uninstall on your phone/pda you can
delete the registry-keys under
HKLM\Software\PoitUI and the Home-directory
located under "Prgram Files" or "Programme" or
whatever language you have...

Jesus it puts the lotion on its skin. Where being held captive by a piece of software gotta love that. Talk about nazi'ism feels like AOL for mobile devices go ahead install if you dare will require a format if u want to get rid of us though.
Easy to remove if you do it the right way. You would have found this if you would have looked on the forums for the program.
To Remove .Home
Drop back to the default Windows Mobile Today Screen
Start > Programs > .Update Manager
Pointui Products > Home > 1.0 Free > Uninstall
Perform a Soft Reboot after the uninstall and Home will be removed.
To finish the uninstall, use Remove Programs to uninstall the update manager, you can delete the installation folder if you so desire and the icon form the start menu.
To bad this procedure does not work on the 6800 there is no uninstall option in the update manager.
Custom Program?
Can someone make a program that you don't have to go in the registry and make it easier to change on the fly.

SPB Backup works great. Just search SPB Software and you will find it. It has a free trial that runs out after a little while though. I think its 10 bucks to purchase a license. I just set the phone up the way i want it and just back it up. It copies everything all the way up to registry edits, or you can just have it copy certain info. ( i just keep reinstalling the trial program)
if you just want to backup PIM stuff (contacts, calendar, tasks, etc), look in the development section of this forum for PPCPimBackup. works great

Well, the probelm is it isn't capable of doing just registry "edits" actually. As far as I can tell it just backs up the whole registry. What's a good tool for just backing up selected registry entries? I know Phm will do, it, but it won't restore.
I ask because when upgrading roms you certainly don't want to overwrite the whole registry with the old one. It's probably dangerous enough to assume that just your old registry tweaks will still work... but probably not too dangerous to be worth trying.
I use PPCPimBackup2005-6. You can d/l it at www.freewarepocketpc.net.
Great program.
how about backing up stuff besides PIM?
I have outlook and am synching between it and my Titan, so that takes care of backing up the contacts, schedule, etc.
Now, how about all of the cool add-ons I've put in place? Any way to avoid having to manually reinstall it all if you were to wipe the Titan?

just copy and paste the selected registry entries with total commander.
Thanks. I know how to edit registry entries, and someone once taught me that modern computer gizmos have this cool copy and paste feature that you mention.
Seriously though, it sure would be neat to be able to compile all one's registry edits in one place and just click to install them. Obviously this is doable as people (here) write cabs to do it. I don't know how, or how simple it is. If it were really simple probably most everyone would do it, and there wouldn't be so many posts asking for cabs for things.
I think I saw something about WinCE CabManager possibly being a good tool for this? Maybe I'll play with it, but if there' s a simpler more single purpose tool for this, that would probably be better.
for reg edits you can use resco registry to export all the keys and values you change, then consolidate them all into 1 .reg file, then just import it after a hard reset or upgrade
I see it can read phm reg files... except you have to add a line at the top with the Windows Registry Editor program name or it will refuse saying it doesn't recognize the file.. That's seems pretty petty.
I found a better reg import solution. Total Commander has rather hidden registry editing capability. The registry is found in \\\registry\ or by switching to 2 virtual window view. Copy and paste reg files to the registry root and that's it.
I had one reg file missing carriage return at the end and rather than complain it made an incorrect value.. so maybe a little weak on sanity checks, but easy to use, and free and has a text editor included.
Now I can dump all my reg tweaks in one big file and save lots of time installing the next rom that will trun my phone into a personal teleportation device... with EnableUpsideDownMaterialization=dword:00000001 by default.

need some help uninstalling apps

hi!
i have been trolling around xda for weeks and finally here is my first post..
im having some problems getting rid of the software that came bundled with the tmous hd2. when i go to settings(sense)->applications->remove programs, i see JUST the b&n ereader listed there.
i seem to have irretrievably lost my sd card and i suspect some of the bundled software was preinstalled on the sd card itself. i was able to spot the rest (like slacker, telenav, etc.) in the program files of my device memory.
the problems are that:
1) the start menu is still cluttered with icons of apps that dont exist (due to lost sd card). nothing happens when i run them.
2) even the apps that do exist (like telenav - installed on my device memory), i dont know how to uninstall.
i really need some way to clean up my phone... any way to solve the above problems?
thanks!
p.s.:
i suspect that the b&n ereader is listed in 'remove programs' because i ran that software and updated it over wifi - which led to a fresh install.
my rom is 2.13 if thats of any use...
The thorough way is to use a cooked ROM. But if you don't want to go that way, you can go though and comb through the phone memory>windows and the start menu folders and delete stuff that belong to the apps (but be careful about what you delete, you don't want to delete important system stuff)

i thought of doing that. but drawing a parallel from windows (PC), what you are suggesting is that i should delete all program folders & shortcuts manually instead of using the control panel->add/remove option.
but that is sure to leave behind orphaned registry entries, dlls etc. just like in windows (PC)? and any windows(PC) user knows that that isnt a very pretty way of doing things...

it will leave the registry entries. I have made a lite rom that you can use if you don't want any traces of the programs on your device. look in my signature
Silenced, the catch is that it's not possible to remove apps that are baked into the stock ROM through any regular means (i.e. the add/remove dialog). In your case the best thing is to just clean up + organize your /windows/start menu folder...you can delete or move any of the ".lnk" files in there as they're just shortcuts to the same thing in the /windows folder. Just remember that if you move something that's attached to a quicklink on your home tab, you'll have to dump the quicklink and recreate it after moving the .lnk file.

hmm you're right... i remember that even a hard reset i did yesterday didnt change the state of these apps.
apps stored in rom arent going to make any difference to the phone's performance anyway. so ill just follow the cleanup method you all suggest for now... i have had this phone for just about 24 hours now. its my first killer phone (i upgraded from nokia e65) and am in no state of mind to start flashing cooked roms yet

[SOLVED] Programs "Start Menu" from imported ROM

I hate to ask on here because I feel like the answer should be obvious but it hasnt been.
I imported the latest AT&T ROM for the Tilt 2 in to OSKitchen and have been customizing/modding the heck out of it. Added my own software, removed most of the AT&T crap. Changed SYS to 21916 and even 2019 Manila without difficulty.
What is stumping me? The stupid default shortcuts for things like ActiveSync or email setup , remote destop Windows Live etc...
Most apps I have changed the app.dat to modify location for most things that I kept. However I have searched in both sys and EXT for prov.xml files, reg files basically ALL file contents looking for the likes of the apps above and just CANT find reference to them.
Is there some default behavior that says if a .lnk file exists in windows make a shortcut in the root of "Programs" ? or what am I missing. (Even that doesnt hold water though because activesync is actually async.lnk.
I know I can use something like mortscript to just move them around but this is more about wanting to know what the heck I seem to be missing. Thanks in advance and hopefully this isnt a stupid question.

Try look in the initflashfiles.dat file.
Lol sure enough. More proof positive that Win7 search is garbage. I had it search file contents but for whatever reason it didnt find those shortcuts because it didnt search that file and it is indexed.
You can change the name of the actual .lnk then using an app.dat rename it and place it in where you'd like. I was having this problem with WM Live so I renamed the actual "WLMLauncher.lnk" to "_WLMLauncher.lnk" and then added this line:
Code:
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Internet"):-File("Windows Live.lnk","\Windows\_WLMLauncher.lnk")
to an app.dat in the Start Menu section of my kitchen.
This way whatever is natively calling that link won't be able to recognize it anymore.
If you're simply having trouble finding all the .lnks, just search your SYS XXXXX directory for ".lnk" and that should pull up all the async and email links that you're having trouble with.
