hi any ideas on this sorry im a little simple on this
You can't delete it off the ROM so if you did a hard reset it will be back on the device and then you can re-enter your S/N...OR, if you've just deleted the shortcut off the Start menu you can make a new one using ActiveSync/WMDC
ok mate thanks how do i do that then? lol sorry told u i was pathetic at this
Hard reset:
Turn off the device, hold Vol Up and Vol Down and tap the power button - keep the Vol Up/Down held and you should get a screen asking you to press Vol Up to delete all personal info (make sure you back up contacts, etc. first!!!). I usually do this with both SIM and SD card removed from phone to be on the safe side!!
Make a short cut:
Connect phone to PC and it should give you an icon in My Computer (assuming you have it connected via activesync on the phone). You can then browse to the CoPilot folder and make a new shortcut and paste it in the Start menu.
If you've only just started using the phone and haven't set much up a hard reset is prob the easiest thing to do
ive still got the co pilot splash screen icon but ive just deleted all the files ive had the phone a while so the activ sync option is the best bet i think?
If you deleted them from within the program files on the phone then you'll need to do a hard reset unless you can find a CAB for the program.
What ROM are you using?

Im selling my2020 and want to erase (almost) all personal data, its wm5 and I dont like the idea to hard reset it coz the potential buyer will surely ask me why its empty- where are the programs etc...
Is there some util to erase all contacts and calendar entries ?
you cant hardreset it with wm5
you have to enter the bootloader and format the chipOndisk from in there
and then it will be as empty as when you installed wm5 on it
not sure why a buyer would want it to be less empty then that
because everything else is the contacts and calender and.... programs you installed on it after installing wm5 not sure why a buyer would want
those things on the pda
if you for some strange reason dont want it back to how it was when wm5 was installed then
you have to look into the PIM.vol and other vol files
easy path would be to sync it with an empty outlook on a pc
and setup outlook to force the pda to be like the pc
ty Rudegar
I will perform then the format of the chipondisk and install the progams again
can you please confirm the procedure (never did it before)
1. press camera and voice recorder and reset
2. use voice recorder to choose an option and camera to toggle to
no
yes
yes
3. press action key
thats it ?
I cant destroy something with this (except my data and programs installed after the wm5) ?
thank you !
yes thats it
and no you only delete everything you have access to delete
that being your data and progs
in the bootloader normaly you dont have access to anything
rom or bootloaderWise and those are the things you dont want
to mess with so it should be safe
thank you !
I should do that when I bought it, its never too late
Everything works fine
Best regards !
(info if someone want to perform it too - you have to press camera and voice recorder and reset for a couple of seconds - until the new menu appears at the screen - its not sufficient just to press it and release, press it and keep it... 2020 will need about 30 seconds for the format so dont be scared when you see that nothing happens on the screen for a while or when you see that boot is slow)

Hi palonisj,
You can try and perform a Hard Reset (wipes device back to factory settings) to see if it makes any difference. Please note: a hard reset will reset your phone back to factory settings, this excludes data stored on your MicroSD card.
If you need to backup any data (such as Contacts, Messages, etc) before you perform a hard reset, then you can use a backup program such as PIMBackup or Sprite Backup (you get 15-days full trial) to backup your entire phone to the storage card. In order to run this application, you first need to install the relevant cab file on your phone and then you access the backup program (PIMBackup or Sprite) via your phone to create a backup.
To perform a Hard Reset, please do the following:
1) With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2) Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
3) Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
4) After the reset, don't install any software. Try the camera.
5) If you still have the same problem, you can also try going to the official HTC website, to the support section, and apply their Hotfix. Here is the link: http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=179&cat=2&dl_id=533. Just follow the steps and you'll hopefully be fine. *** Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on your PC before you try this step ***.
If nothing from what I have suggested above works, then it is very likely to be a hardware issue in which case you should call up HTC to arrange repair - also explain to them that you've tried the Hotfix in the support section mentioned on their website.
Regards.
Well, hello there!
I.
Recently I wanted to move (or to copy) Task Manager (Task Manager.exe) in Windows/Start Menu/Programs and did not succeed.
I tried through (3) ways, via:
1. computer (phone connected via activesync)
2. phone's File Explorer
3. Resco File Explorer
None of them ways let me move or copy that file (windows protected?).
II.
On the other hand, is there a way to restart the phone without taking the battery cover and remove the battery or press the red button ( a combination of buttons, maybe)?
Thank you all!
Soft reset
Gid day.
I beleive that you can do a soft reset by pressing the End/Power button for about 3 seconds and you will be taken to a screen with a number of options. The top option is Power Off. Pessing that will power down the unit then all you have to do is power it back up again.
I know it is a long winded way of doing things but it's the only way I've come across so far.

That file is on the ROM(read only memory), you can't move it. make a link to it instead.
There are several programs that let you put alink to shutdown/restart on your phone. I use xdashutdown, but there are others.
I installed Swype 3.9 and it worked initially. I can access the menu through keyboard icon. I accidentally uninstalled it because wm7 skin cab I installed didn't work so I was trying to delete that file but instead I deleted Swype program file through file explorer. I know, dumb.
I tried to re-install the swype cab but everytime I try, program file folder doesn't install and the keyboard doesn't appear nether does keyboard menu. I have no idea why it doesn't install program file folder. Anyone have any idea to my problem? Anything can help.
Thanks!!
Let me know which one works best.
i tried both of them, but still doesn't work. I think the problem is either me unable to delete the program completely so the re installing program can't install the cab fully.
The program appears in application list as"swype-inc" but still doesn't create "Swype" folder in Program File listing in File Explorer. I don't know if that's the reason why the keyboard doesn't appearing
Hope that make sense.
Download PIM backup or whatever you use to backup your phone and save your contacts, messages, and whatever you need. Then do a hardset.

Sounds like your registry is corrupted.

MemMaid is a 3rd-party app that helps clean memory among other things...one of the features it claims it has is the ability to clean out the remnants of bad uninstalls...give it a shot and see if it clears out the old crap so you can fully install it again. Cab is attached, I think it's a trial version (time-limited).
I never done hard reset before. What does it affect? Would hard reset make all the programs currently installed in the device go away? or does it reset to original factory configuration? How about stuff in SD card? does it affect any data in the SD card as well?
It doesn't mess with your storage cards data one bit. You'll go completely back to stock on your phone like the day you bought it. Backup your contacts and what not using myphone or any other backup program you want. PIM Backup worked best for me.

How to perform a HardReset
Hard Resetting deletes ALL personal data and settings and restores your phone to factory default conditions as if you turned on the phone for the first time after purchasing.
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer defaults, or press other keys to cancel."
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
First of all, Thanks for all the advices guys.
I did the hard reset. I installed the swype cab file and it says it was successfully installed then did the soft reset. Unfortunately it didn't work. I have no idea why but holding the keyboard icon won't show the swype menu.... I'm so lost..... is this mean my hd2 is ruined for swype usage?
For some reason, after the hard reset, things are little different from when I turned HD2 for the first time... odd
This is the last cab I've got for swype. It's a long shot but give it a try.

Wait. You did a hard-reset and Swype wasn't already available?
What ROM are you running then? 'Cause all of 'em I've seen had Swype pre-installed.
If you did a true hard-reset, you should have to install Swype...
Hi,
I have recently flashed my HD2 with the following firmware called :
_HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HKCSL_WWE_1.72.831.1_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship(2)
I got this from the HTC Website, after reflash all was good
After the reflash I used a program called "HTC Backup" to backup all my contacts etc from a file i created. After that backup was done, my HTC had only half the Icons on it, example when I go into Start > Tools .... there is NOTHING.
I have tried to Hard Reset, by holding Vol down, vol up and power button, the multicoloured screen comes up but does not prompt me to hard reset, so only thing I can do then is take battery out and put it back in, resets back to how it is... limited functionality with nothing under Tools.
Any help? My HD2 is pretty much useless now. i try to reflash again wtih it but I get error 260 cannot connect.
Thanks.
Bit of an update, Well I managed to get it to connect and reflash, but now I don't know how to get my data back.
I was highly recommended the program "HTC Backup" which is supposedly made by HTC, but the backup simply renders my HTC Useless, no Tools, No Settings.
When restoring, about 30 seconds while it's restoring, it just turns into the desktop, the program dissapears and goes to desktop, then you have nothing under "tools"
It's done it twice in a row.
Anyway of accessing the files stored in the "backup" file this program makes?
The program when restoring, about 10 seconds in just switches to the desktop, the desktop is now bank, no clock and nothing. when going into menu, there is no "Tools" and the menu is half empty half of the icons.
I'm wondering does anybody know how to access or decompile these backup files that the program "HTC Backup" creates?
Thanks.
has it restored your contacts?
see, what has probably happened is the backup prog has backed up all kinds of registry settings, and you have moved to a new rom, and those settings are no longer valid, and are screwing with the new rom. (you shouldnt copy tweaks and reg settings across from one rom to a new rom. its OK for hard resetting to the same rom, not a new one).
So, if your contacts are restored, and you can get enough functionality to do it, try to sync them off the phone now whilst its useless, (activesync to outlook, microsoft myphone, gmail or something, theres probably loads of ways,) and then do a hard reset, and after the new rom is in place sync the contacts back, meaning you arent running the restore program.
