I ran in a strange problem I copied CAB file to my device and tried to run it but as soon as installation starts I get unsuccessful installation error.
My Hd has these specs:
ROM: 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
ROM date: 10/24/08
Radio: 1.09.25.14
Protocol: 52.49a.25.26U
Is there something I've done wrong?

With the directions from slayer69 and the package created by twopumpchump I made a cab which installs the widget engine to your mobile.
First of all, I cannot test it fully since I only have a phone with wm6.5 flashed on it, but the time I tried it, it worked. So if you try this, it's on your one risk.
So this works on WM6.5 phone where no widget engine has been cooked in, but it could work on other WM versions, so if you have tried it on another versions, post it here.
Afterwards do a softreset and try a widget. For example one I created which can be found here:

Note, if you do have the widget engine but you can't open .wgt or .widget files, just use this cab: enable_widgets_wm6.5.cab. If the file \Windows\wmwidgetinstaller.exe does not exist then you can try the cab with the whole widget engine.

Same here. Although i didn't tried this cab, but i cooked IE 6 with Browsingie and browsingie_lang_0409 folder along with the Widget Packages from from Wm 6.5 build 23016 in my WM 6.1 21054 ROM. Widgets gave the same error while installing. I guess there is some registry hive or a file based metabase which tracks installed widgets/software. This is not setup as in 6.5 and hence this error.
I suspect that this metabase is same as used by the standard uninstaller control panel applet. I guess the installer executable that installs cabs has been changed a bit in 6.5.

and it's on a WM 6.1 - DUSK ; Manila 2.5
Installed the engine cab AND the enable cab and widgets are working on my Titan with WM 6.5.
Hmmmm, sounds interesting.
I am tempted to try this on my Topaz HTC Stock ROM.
It probably won't work but it's worth a try

yup same here. All my hopes are dashed
Appearently it only works on wm6.5 where the engine is removed. The engine uses, seeing the error message, the database handling of wm6.5 which is different from wm6.1 etc.

Hi,
have installed the "add_widget_engine_v2.cab" and "enable_widgets_wm6.5.cab". When trying to install a widget (doesn't matter if .wgt or .widget, allways the same error), an error window pops up with a red cross but no text, just empty.
The same window appears when I start the "wmwidgetinstaller.exe" in the windows folder.
What is wrong with my installation? Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Any help is very much appreciated!!!
Widget engine will only work on WM6.5, don't even bother to try it on 6.1 or earlyer - there are specific functions which are present only in WM6.5
I have flashed the RTT Leet R2 WM 6.5 Build 23017. This is a light ROM without Manila. Nevertheless it should be able to handle widget?!?

I get 2 errors. when i click on the widget to install it, i get an error saying it cant update the registry. when i click on the wmwidget' file located in the windows folder, i get an error saying ''error launching the widget''. how can i fix this? i install both files and did the soft resets. here's my device configurations.

It´s not what most of you want to hear, but this ROM freezes.
I had those freezes with the 4.79 full rom, too.
The system with what I flashed was Windows XP.
I had installed the recommended radio version 1.59.42.16.
I´m now trying if it´s active sync which causes the freezing.
Edit:
I did a hardreset and only connected my Orbit 2 to active sync (and I entered my PIN) and it freezes.
I think I´ll try to flash from another computer.
I will update here if there are news.
Edit 2:
Today, I´m going to reflash the original o2 rom, after that I´ll flash Olios and the radio rom again but all from another computer where I am able to deactivate all unneeded processes.
Maybe a hint, if you flash the rom, first get your phone connected to active sync and disconnect, check if it freezes when you turn off your screen.
If not, you probably have no problems.
Flashing Olio´s rom now.
First, I flashed o2 rom, then HTC splash screen, then radio to 1.59.46.12.
Testing if active sync makes the device freeze in a few minutes.
Edit 3:
Flashed rom, did a hardreset and connected device to active sync as a guest, it seems to be working.
Testing today.
Did NOT work. Performing a hardreset now and testing again.
Edit 4:
Did a hardreset, connected to AS but did NOT uncheck option "erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen aktivieren" (don´t know what´s it in english, sorry, it´s options - connections - USB to PC)
Now, it seems to be working since 5 minutes.
I´ll update later.
It runs up to now. Probably, it´s the option "erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen aktivieren" that causes the freezing.

Hmm. I use 4.79 Full Rom too. Flashed with Windows7RC 64bit. Absolute no problems/freezes. In my job I use ActiveSync with WinXP64bit for contacts and calender, no e-mail. No problems. Everything works perfect.

You know, this problem seem to appear in all the latest of my ROMs so
far, always it seems to be related to ActiveSync and/or the function
Erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen. But it gets more and more mystical,
at least now, where this ROM may look not too different from the former
ones, but indeed it is completely new. I use new SYS, new XIP and
even new OEM (drivers). The only things left from former versions
is the two 1.60 drivers (pcem and ddi.dll) which are needed to achieve
the 100MB RAM. But I cannot imagine that these are the culprits,
because lots of cooks like pcarvalho or epimazzo use them also.
Moreover it is VERY interesting that this problem seems to affect only
some people, by far not all. I did not have it once on my test devices.
So I cannot help you with this, other than giving you some hints.

I plan to cook them, but as I don't use M2D myself this is something
I will do whenever it is some really lazy spare time so don't
expect it/them within the next few days. Maybe in some weeks or so.
I know that most of you prefer M2D full ROM as I can easily see at
the download count of the ROM versions. But it is a lot more difficult
to perfectly cook a ROM with lots of apps and enhancements than
a light ROM like the one which is out right now. I will take a look at it.

I didn't experience such a behavior on any of my HTC devices before... It is driving me nuts!
I flashed three Custom ROMs till now (Anjas back to the root 05.01., Artemis GER 13.01., HD2O 1.4) - same effect!
While installing some (not all!) programs I get an error (installation failed) and this error comes before you have to select the destination.

Try an official ROM.
i just installed official HTC GER 1.48... same issue...
i don't know what else to do...
as you have the problem on all the roms it might be that the cabs of the programs you are trying to install are corrupted.
i've had that once and had to format the memory card.
empty memory card, format and replace all the programs that did not install with a new download or copy from your pc
that solved it for me then.

As I read your post I realized that i've downloaded all those files with Opera Mobile. And all these files are corrupted...

I have the same problem. Cabs downloaded with Opera are corrupted, cabs downloaded with IE are fine. So there must be a problem with Opera Mobile.
I have been trying since I got my phone to be able to install cabs. There are only a very few that I can install no matter how I try. It doesn't matter if I download to sd card and install to card, download to card and install to device, or download and install to device. About 90-95% won't install it simply states uninstallable.
I was able to install sdcard certs hoping that might be my problem but it didn't help. Just the other day sirphunkee who has been trying to help me found a security manager that I ran through ActiveSync and I turned off security. There were no directions but I think I did it correctly however still it didn't help me.
This phone is brand new, only about a week old. Is it possible they changed the ROM and Radio and that's what is causing me all the problems? I have
ROM 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE and Radio 2.10.50.26 the rest of the software is OS version 5.2.21892 (21892.5.0.89), Manilla version 2.5.20121412.2, and Protocol version 15.39.50.07U. I'm not sure if these other things matter but I thought I'd state them just in case.
I could use some help anyone have an idea. I don't understand this, I can't download hardly anything. A coupld of the cabs I have tried and can't, BsB tweaks 1.6, and Grooveshark, there have been more but I don't remember the names right now.
Opera 10
Do you have opera 10 open? some cabs wont install in my phone if I have opera 10 Running.

It's not 10, 9.7 I believe.
I figured that this was the place if anywhere I could get help. I've only had 4-5 people try. Thanks to those that have.
