I have all of the ROMS to date and would like to host a kitchen online. I can't get a kitchen working BUT there are lots of you who can...so...who would like to volunteer a kitchen or help getting one up and I will provide the ROMS and the hosting? I would like to provide all of the ROMS, which I have, so everyone will be able to cook whatever they wish. Let me know here or PM me.
Thanks,
I'll upload you a buncha of programs to put on your kitchen
sounds good but i need the kitchen coded first
No one wants to help with this? Alot of people ask for the 4.00.11 ROM, which I have and am willing to host a kitchen if someone just helps me figure it out. C'mon people, you can email or PM me if you don't want anyone knowing you helped. One of you has to have a tutorial put together or one already installed that I can just drop my ROMs into.

I'll test it. I have a spare P3 1 gig computer w/1gig of ram running cygwin. I also have a website to host it. If you have one set up and I can somehow download it. I will put it up securely so you and I can test it. Let me know.

No worries mate
Unless you want to spend your life constantly cooking up ROMs I would not recommend it My OH hates me even getting my phone out now due to all the time I spent cooking on my Touch Pro.
On the other hand it is really rewarding when you get it right, and if you release it, there is some nice feedback from the community.
Make sure you keep plenty of backups of any changes you make, I never do and keep on having to rebuild my kitchen when I inevitably **** things up

Yes lets hope, although I think "doing it" will take a looooooooooooooong time for me
So, I just grabbed the Hero port from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722122. And then, I did the following -
1) loaded into dsixda's kitchen and selected 'Advanced' and 'port'
2) used freshly compiled AOSP ROM with freshly compiled kernel as base for device (using Android Builder - link in sig)
3) replaced 'heroc' with 'desirec' in updater-script & build.prop
4) changed several lines in build.prop to change 'Sprint' into 'Verizon' & 'Hero CDMA' into 'Eris'
5) renamed 'init.heroc.rc' in ramdisk to 'init.desirec.rc'
6) copied 'desirec-keypad.kcm.bin' & 'desirec-keypad.kl' from planejane into appropriate locations
7) copied 'sensors.desirec.so' from planejane to appropriate location
Seriously. That's all that I did.
What works:
wifi
camera (no preview)
bluetooth (well it turns on, I don't have anything to test)
Market (after the Google bits are installed)
phone calls
3G
touch screen
buttons
lights
SMS
What doesn't work:
MMS (couldn't send)
OC won't work because the kernel I used doesn't have it.
This is really nice for no more work than it takes to port. It kind of hurts me, because I like the idea of compiling from source so much better...
I don't want to step on any toes of people who are doing real work, since I don't plan on maintaining this ROM. (Well, I didn't really do much of anything anyway!) So, hence the instructions above. Roll your own, if you want.
nice work has anybody tried this yet? i can guinea pig if not.
Edit:
Nevermind

Hey, I just provided the instructions... If I were going to post the ROM, I would make sure it's ok with darchstar. That's just me though. Since it's all open source, it may not matter one way or another.
So, yeah, it's ok with me! I haven't sent my build to anyone yet, so if you ported it, well, you ported it!
Thanks for asking. That's the way to be.
I do have one request though... If you make any more changes, can you post them too? And not just - "v53 - fixed thingy". I really like to see what people are doing, so I can learn how they did it. That's purely a request. You are in no way obligated.

Cool deal then. The next thing that I was going to do was change the "Sprint" in res/xml/eri.xml in the framework-res.apk to say Verizon. I had no idea of where to do that until last night when it was mentioned in the irc channel by andrew8806 & conap.
This is really good build. I'm using it right now as my everyday ROM. It will be good for this to be an option for people. It's just not a part of my plan... Muhahaha.
Rock on.
very informative, thanks for editing the title accordingly. =) don't need anymore flames rising. And also thanks for making sure to add the ASK DARCHSTAR part in the OP beings that there was already almost a issue between him the heroc community and one of the eris forum members(you already know who) due to a mixup.

If you are using dsixda's Kitchen, you can go to Advanced and then '15'. It will expand the boot.img out into a folder called BOOT-EXTRACTED, and there's a folder in there that is the contents of the ramdisk and the kernel. Be sure to build the boot.img back after making changes and before building the ROM.
This explains it -

Well done! Did you have to do anything that I did not list in the instructions in this thread? Share?
Honestly, it's real tempting to take yet another detour and make a plugin for the kitchen that will do the steps in the OP (CDMA Hero --> Eris) and maybe another one that's Eris --> CDMA Hero.
I don't think it will take much time to do, and it will make Hero ports even easier for people who don't have the time to dig into things as well as they probably should if they are going to be a dev. (There is a downside to making all of this easier to do...)
but i need it bassed on something or not if u dont want it
It depends on weather its a proper Rom or if its just filepushing like your 'Cronos LightSpeed Supper Rom'
and weather you've learnt to spell...
On a more serious note, anyone can use WinZIP, we don't need someone to spam the forums doing it for us.
Please don't see this as anything against you, its just advice.

Weather? That's whether I think
"and weather you've learnt to spell..."
I laughed.
And don't ask us if you want a ROM. Just develop, ask for help, improve it before it's launched (do this sequence 3 or 4 times), then release, and be flooded with bugs.
That's how it works.
Also, if someone wants to be my tutor, I'd be very glad.
I'm thinking of starting ROM developing aswell. I don't know what to read first.
And please, don't post cyanogen sticky post link here. I've read it, but it has too much information and I don't know where to start.

Try asking Feeyo and elemag for help. They are very open to give information.
Feeyo in particularly is learning me a lot about how I can create an rom for myself from AOSP. Those 2 are not greedy nor being secretly about how they do things.
Cant say that from that other Team.
I'm sorry but I've one question in my mind and I cant answer for it by my self: why someone buy a "sense/rosie" phone if he want a plain (vanilla) rom? Why that person doesn't buy a N1??

Well, price, I guess. And availability. The N1 wasn't available in my country, unless for an extremely unreasonable price.
Also, I think the N1 is not as sexy as the hero, or the desire...
Wow - there's some 'bad-mood' users around here, ey? We all start somewhere, so give the guy a little slack.
Anyway, if you want my honest opinion, you will struggle in the Vanilla ROM world on these forums. VanillaEclair, aHero, EzHero, CyanogenMod....there are more then enough really good Vanilla ROM's. On the other hand, Cronos, Villain, ChocolateEclair, Kimera....there are also more then enough great Sense ROM's too. It's a tough area to enter into as there is a lot of competition, and I'm sure many users can agree that we have seen some really detrimental side effects of the competition.
So, back to my honest opinion - I don't think anybody wants another vanilla ROM, nor another Sense ROM, unless you have something great to bring to the party, in which case I suggest rather make a public thread with your 'great thing' so that it can be implemented into existing ROM's. At the same time, this is a developement forum, and new developements are obviously always welcome. So, if you have the patience (for bug reports and updates) and decency (to work with the other developers), by all means, bring out a new ROM. I for one will be happy to test and report.
Just my 2c.
Mr P.
what I would suggest is you make the rom that YOU want to use. not pure vanilla, not pure stock sense, but the features you want most, including the (freely distributable) apps you want to include in the rom.
then you can always post it here in case others like it too.
I'd like to see a rom that doesn't include the standard apps but instead includes preinstalled the best free alternative calendar, widgets, launcher(pro...), alternative gallery, alternative camera, music player, app organizer, and so on.
something that is out of the box really really cool and setup for instant use (the way sense phones are setup from the factory, but using non-sense apps maybe).
that would be worth seeing here. it's been done but recently most popular roms are variations of the same thing and the competition is more about stability, performance, and working hardware. if you can base yours upon an already stable, fast and fully working hero rom (with permission from the authors), then customizing it and repackaging it could be really cool.
Hey guys,I want to start creating an android roms for HTC HD2.whats the software I need to start doing that?I have plenty of time and I Love my HD2.I tried many rom by many developers as mdeejay and darkstone and I decided to try to vreate my own.How can I do that and whats the equipment I need to do that?

nkos719, knowing how to search for information fast and efficiently is one of the most important assets of a developer. Make the search function your most important tool and you will progress fast.
I looked everywhere but the only tool I found was the Coffee Shop kitchen v1 but I cannot open the files included in the rar file.
That's because it only works on Linux systems..
If you do not have access to an Linux environment, better forget ROM development for Android.

Putting the hardware is the easy part! I was doing that for my father when I was 7/8! Only now than Im turning 18 have I learnt to make a flawlessly working computer!
I agree with everyone else here...
Noone can give you the answer you want.
It took me months of hard work, with no help from anyone else but text books to be able to write java for android.
Thats your best hope.
Good luck though, Keep at it! Its worth it in the end.
