I have had no real issues with my N1 since I got it. I have been using CM's roms. The other day I noticed that when I was making and receiving calls the wrong organization was showing up. I noticed that if I deleted a contact and reentered it it fixed that contact. I have 200+ contacts with multiple entries and would like to see if anybody has an easier way to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Manny
same here.
the organization is shown up wrong in the in-call page.
in my case, the contacts were synced via Gmail. I've checked there and the information is set correctly. even on the phone, if I go to edit the contact details, the organization is shown correctly. only when in the in-call page, the information is wrong...
tried to re-sync several times with Gmail after changing some information, only to test, but it won't correct the situation...
Same here. Contacts sync'd from Google/Gmail. Everything shows up find on both Google and phone's contact list, but in-call display shows something different.
I though it was me lol!
Yeh i noticed that, not sure if it was doing this on older cyanogen roms or not.
Funny...I get one contact picture for all of my contacts that have an organization assigned??? She's not even in the organization.
I am glad that I am not the only one. I even turned of sync and deleted all the contacts on my gmail and on phone. Then restored a back up to my gmail account and let the phone sync up but it didn't fix it. The only way I have corrected it on some contacts is to delete them and reenter them. Its okay when the only have one number but when they have multiple numbers and emails it will be a hassle.
i hope this gets into cyanogene's issue list and will be fixed within the next release.
I have the same issue.
Is anyone experiencing this issue syncing their contacts with Facebook? This was an issue for me when I first got my N1 and not syncing my contacts with Facebook fixed it.
same issue here.
Me too got same bug
I am glad that I am not the only one, but I would have expected someone to have a solution. I will have to do more searching.
Wrong Organization
I am also getting wrong organization for the calls coming in. It is quite disconcerting, because I need this data to be right. However, I fulfill this need by using the name and number to figure it out myself, and by asking the caller who they're calling from. This should be fixed soon.
I have model Nexus One, firmware 2.1-update1, baseband 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2, kernel 2.6.33.1-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1, mod version CyanogenMod-5.0.5.3-N1, build #EPE54B.
P.S., with all my "should"s, of course I am very grateful for any and all work that's gone into this for otherwise uncompensated work. I'm leaning toward learning this programming myself, so if anybody insists and points me to the right primers, I could fix it myself.

.. is really starting to p*ss me off. I'm going to get really sick really quickly of having to re-associate all my contacts with their Facebook profiles every time the Hero decides to spontaneously delete them.
Has anyone found a workaround?
Edit: Hmmm... seems if you close all the background HTC processes like com.htc.socialnetwork.provider and com.htc.album:remote with TasKiller, it'll re-update everything when the processes start back up again.
It's still stupid!
And if you decided not to update your contact picture when you linked them, it will overwrite your specific photo anyway ! that's also very anoying if you don't want the facebook photos !
That's funny I was just logging in to report this problem. It happened to me for the first time today. It really pissed me off that for no reason all my facebook associations got deleted from contacts, rebooting the phone and killing the process didn't bring them back either. I don't even have the process com.htc.album:remote running in task killer. They need to get an improved rom out and fast, i've had this phone less than a week and i'm really starting to miss my iphone.
This happened to me today, but it was because for some reason I had been logged out of FB. Otherwise, I have not experienced this 'deletion' issue...
Strange.
Does anyone know why the phone would just log you off of facebook? Is there any good way to avoid this? I hope logging on to facebook on a computer doesn't kick you off.
I'm glad I saw this thread and that I am not the only one!
It is getting very annoying but I expect it will be fixed eventually, I just hope it doesn't take too long!
This happened to me the first time yesterday. And 2 other people in this thread had it happen yesterday. Maybe it's something at facebooks end. There could be some sort of timeout and were all getting logged out at the same time.
it is very odd.
Sat here at work, there's four of us with hero's now.
one of us gets it, the other three don't.
the two G2 devices don't, and only one of the Orange Hero's gets it.
very strange.
Okay I think that I can guess what is happening here. I have the same problem with my Facebook contacts losing their picture status and albums about every 24 hours (on stock G2). I know that when I leave my browser up overnight on my Facebook page, Facebook will log me out. I presume that it is doing the same thing with this phone and suspect that HTC did not spend long enough testing the ‘people’ application to observe this. I further guess that when the phone is logged out by Facebook it does not try to sign in again, deleting the information previously retrieved when a refresh is unsuccessful. I am not a developer and don’t have any way to back all this up but if I am correct then HTC would need to implement a workaround for this behaviour in order to fix it. Probably the easiest way to do this would be to have the application:
1. Automatically sign in again (signing out if necessary) every 12 hours or so.
2. Retain previously cached data, e.g. pictures, unless explicitly deleted even when Facebook refresh is unavailable.
This doesn’t fix the problem of the now-permanently unlinked Facebook contact (as per Don Vincenzo on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4276194#post4276194) but it would be an improvement.
I hard reset earlier which had previously fixed it, but now it only shows that I have one Facebook contact to choose from and no one else can be linked from.
It shows it as if I have only one Facebook friend.
Very strange.
Yep had the same issues.
Ultimately I found the best cure is just to wait for the two hours before it automatically updates everything.
I've only gone through my contact list once and linked all the profiles, however I have appeared to have "lost" the link many times...
So basically don't do anything, just wait.. lol they will return
Never had this issue yet but all my facebook - contact information is also sync'd with the exchange server
I was afraid that after my master reset I would have to reassociate all of my contacts but it seems that the association is stored on google contacts too, so they just all came back again
Its been 2 days now and my associations have not come back, man that's gonna suck if it resets them every couple of days. The facebook integration was one of the main selling points for me for the phone. I sync my contacts with outlook so I don't have any under my gmail name. Is it better to import all my contacts in to gmail so it retains my facebook links? If so is there a way I can sync the contacts that are already on my phone to my gmail account from my phone?
I may or may not have found a solution, or a way of preventing it. I'm using TasKiller to close all my running processes every few hours to preserve battery life etc. I noticed that when I put some of the system processes in the ignore list, (com.htc.socialnetwork.provider for example) the Facebook problem happened again. If I don't have any processes in the ignore list, and make sure to kill them once or twice a day, my contacts stay associated with Facebook.
Last time my contacts associations disappeared, I killed all running processes, took everything out the ignore list and went into the People app, and scrolled along to the facebook updates page. I hit menu, then 'update now'. This restored everything back to the way it was.
The disassociation just happened for me again - all my contacts suddenly needed reconnecting.
This is a different problem to the one I was discussing in the other thread 'It's a wee bit buggy...', where previously available contact data (profile pic, birthday, albums etc) can now not be retrieved by the Hero once a contact is linked. This functionality has not returned since it first occurred for me, and means that, irrespective of the associations holding, only about 75% of those contacts on the device that should be able to sync actually successfully sync. From what I can tell, this could possibly be an issue with Facebook privacy settings, though why it only happened a week after having the device I'm not sure.
With regard to the associations holding after a hard reset, the People app on the device stores the Facebook association data in the 'Notes' field of the contact, which is then synced to Google Contacts. If you wipe and then re-download your contacts from Google, this info comes back with it, and the People app then sees those contacts as linked. Given this, it seems even stranger that the links get broken in the first place, as it suggests that for some reason that the data in that field is not persistent...
Have the association loss occasionally but I find if you ignore it then the association comes back after a little while.
In relation to some (but not all) friends losing associations it is due to the friend changing their Facebook application settings. My girlfriend's photo disappeared a week ago, so I got her to change her fb settings and it came back. Not sure why it happened a week ago cause she changed the setting longer ago than that, but guess it is Facebook, not HTC.
Has anyone reported this to HTC? Its happening far too frequently on my gf's (pink) Hero.
So maybe it's not the same but it's definitely related:
I've now gotten to the point where I can not view my own contact details when I'm logged into facebook. That is, if I am signed in, and I try to view my contact card, I get a crash in process "android.process.acore" (this also happens when trying to update my status). If I edit my details and make sure I'm signed out of facebook, everything is fine except that all details of all linked profiles disappear...
Can anybody else confirm this?
BTW, I noticed that if you sign out using your contact card, and then sign in again (miraculously this does work!) the People app will retry to link friends to your facebook friends, so you can "force" a resync this way...
I keep getting this issue too. What i do is go to contacts, then on to the 'updates' tab, my contact card still shows my pic and me as logged in. I then press menu and update now. This resyncs all my contacts straight away. Annoying i know but at least it recognises them again after a bit.
I have one specific contact that gives me a FC when I try to view/edit it. I can't figure out what would cause that. I can edit it from GMail and nothing looks out of the ordinary there.
Any ideas?

Edit: Solved!

I remember reading something about this, there is a known issue involving the contact having a picture and having a birthday set but having no year and every time you view the contact the contacts app will force close. I'm not clear on the details but I remember those being the key point.
Edit: I was able to fully replicate the issue, just have to add a contact through gmail without a year on the birthdate and tack on a photo and you'll see the problem. Of course this may not be your issue, you may be having a separate problem, I'm interested in hearing if this fits your situation.

Is there a special character in the name? A hypen or an apostrophe? I heard the contact app sometimes gets tripped up over this.

No, just a plain normal first and last name. I didn't have this problem on my G1 with or without CyanogenMod (that I remember anyway).
I would try deleting the contact from your phone, then deleting it from wherever it is syncing from. Then re-add and see what happens. If you cannot delete it from the phone itself if it's FCing constantly, try deleting it from the server and re-sync the phone, it should remove it.
I was told that if you have any notes in your contacts that it would fc.
That was from a tmo rep

Hmm. I don't know if I had any notes in that contact, but I can't check now since I've already deleted it and re-created it.
Well, the issue is solved for now.
FYI: I have notes on almost all my Google contacts and none of them cause FC's.

That's exactly what the problem was. I had day and month, but no year for that contact's birthday. There was also a contact pic set from GMail. An interesting bug!
Deleting the contact and then setting it up on my phone prevents this problem. Android forces you to specify a year and it picked up the photo from facebook.
*** edit - title is supposed to say No Full Gmail Contacts Sync **
Ok it's taken me a while to notice this as i've had the phone plenty long enough now, but it was only yesterday I needed to add a contact and found that if I select the option to add to Google Contacts it doesn't actually save them. I've tried multiple times and NOTHING. The phone is able to sync DOWN fine but seemingly cannot sync up. Sadly it seems Samsungs incompetent software tweekers have struck again.
Can anyone else verify if this is the case with all Galaxy S firmware at the moment?
So frustrating; really starting to wish Samsung would just have made this phone a STOCK phone like HTC.did with things like the Magic.
Not the case for me. I have flashed and reflashed a hundred times and when I add a contact, it stays and comes back after a flash through google sync.

What particular firmware are you running? It tells me the contact has saved but then when I look through my phonebook the contact isn't there. Try adding one now to your Google account and report back.if you don't mind.
Darkstriker, can you log into your google account to see if all your contacts are listed there? Is it possible that contacts are synced, but they don't necessarily need to show up under the google account?
They aren't showing up on my phone book or online in my Google contacts, even though it says they're saved.
It could be that im running a custom rom, cant remember the name of it but its the main one that isn't SAMSET!
The main one that isn't samset... gotta love that statement.
Anyways: I may be a problem with your customROM. I am using JM2. I just added one and it shows up in contacts on phone and I'm guessing it will take some time to show up in gmail.

Im sorry I'm VERY hung over!
Has anyone experienced problems using Google Voice Actions (long press the search key) on their Evo over the past 12 hours?
Mine all of a sudden will not pull contact info from Google anymore. My contacts are 100% synced with my Google GMail contacts as I know this is a prerequisite but if I say "Send Text to, Chuck, hey there" instead of putting Chucks name and phone number in the TO box the text is in the body of the message:
Message: Chuck hey there.
Another user over at Google mobile forums has reported the same issue starting last night.
Just wondering how wide spread this is?
Thanks!
Todd
Mine is doing the same exact thing. Mine was working fine and now it's not working. I've posted this same question last night and a few people said it was still working for them. I checked my co-workers evo and his still works. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've tried everything! I flashed a few different roms and even went back to sprint stock and nothing is working. I even created a new gmail account and added a few contacts thinking there was something wrong with my original account and that didn't fix the problem either. Sorry to say it but I'm glad I'm not the only one. It means that it's not my phone and something on google's end. I wonder how many other people this is affecting. Let me know if you find a solution.
Do both of you have your contacts in phone or synced from Google or an Exchange account?
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
No contacts on the phone. All are synced with Google. Syncing works fine. Changes happen on both sides. I also sync with an Exchange server for work contacts.
The contacts I use with Voice Actions are only Google (personal) contacts.
Me too. All my contacts are synched with Google. I mean i had it working the other day, but for some reason it just stopped recognizing everyone on my phone book. The weird part is that if I change the voice language to English (UK) instead of (US) I can voice dial but can't "send text to" or "send email to". I posted this in the Google forum and an employee said he was looking into it so I don't know if its a known problem or not. It doesn't seem to be affecting a lot of users of I'd see more traffic to this thread and more complaints. Right now I'm trying out Vlingo. I kind of like it better than Google voice actions.
All working again for me. Google says it was a server issue.
I went to text a few people today and their names didn't come up in my texting app. I went into my contacts app and saw that quite a few are missing. However if I log into google they are all there.
I've cleared cache and also removed/reinstalled my account but still not 100% syncing.
Any suggestions??
Just logged on to post this same thing. It seems random - some of my family members come through but not all. My wife didn't make the cut either.
What version are you on? Phone, carrier? etc?
I am on Oreo Beta, bought from sprint, on sprint network. Unlocked bootloader, obv.
I noticed this when my wife didn't show up in the text app. I text her more than everyone else combined. No solution yet.

I'm running the latest Resurrection Remix. I was only missing a few and readded them to my phone. I have duplicate contacts but at least I have em all. Must be some glitch
I show 218 contacts on the desktop and only 181 on the phone. No good. Removed google account, re-synced, nada. I'll try a factory reset later if nothing else.
I was only missing three names so it wasn't too hard to just add them. I'll deal with the duplicates and remove them once this gets worked out.
I was about to do a clean install, glad I waited to see it's not just me!!
Just did a reset and this time only 177 were imported. WTF?
I just got my phone and am running stock 7.1.1 and am seeing the same issue, 291 contacts show on the computer and on my pixel but only 278 on my essential phone. I factory reset the phone, and still the issue persists. I also removed the account form the phone and re-added it, still same issue. Hoping somebody figures this out
THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS FORUM. I thought I was going insane. I noticed the same thing. Some of my closest, oldest friends were suddenly missing when they texted me. I looked in the contacts app on my desktop on the browser and they are all there. It's just on my phone that they are missing. I tried everything, restarting, uninstalling, clearing cache, etc. So odd! Is this a google issue or an essential issue? I'm running the oreo beta.
It seems like people running various versions are all having the same issue so it's above my pay grade to figure out what the heck is going on haha
I'll just chime in with a #metoo and leave it at that.

Same issue, latest stock update
I ended up getting mine working by unlocking the bootload, downgrading to NMI81C and then installing the Oreo beta 1. Don't know if I just got lucky or if it will work for everyone, but thought I would share.
This was happening to me as well and figured out why. Go to your computer and go into Contacts from your browser. Open one of the contacts that's not showing up on your phone from your browser and you'll see near the bottom things like "Website" and "Notes" with urls (usually to Facebook, G+). Delete those fields.
I think they're metadatas automatically generated from previous phones (for me, 6P, HTC Evo, 1+1, etc.) and for some reason, any contact info with these urls and metadata tags are not displayed in PH-1 Contacts.
I have over 500 contacts and manage them through browser... so I had to go and open every single one of them this morning and delete any additional data other than email / phone / address. I hope this makes sense.

Nice find. This worked!
Just edit any contact detail on Google Contacts website and Save and it will appear on the device.
Change a birthday, or telephone number, change the nickname and it appears in the device where it was initially missing.
So I've tried putting an X at the end of the name, Save, then edit it again, Save and all is well!
So you can put back the urls. hyperlinks whatever you discovered was a problem.
