Hi all,
Not sure if anyone saw this:
http://www.elgix.com/products/index.htm
It looks like a patch to change the location for email storage location (not attachments but the actual emails). Patch says it's for the MPx but do you guys think it will work work with the Magician? Anyone brave enough to give it a try?
Using Pocket Outlook Storage patch on Magician.
Hi All,
First of all, we have NOT tested this patch on any device other than the MPx. Generally speaking the patch should work on any device running PPC 2003/SE, but there is one issue. The MPx has 16Mb of built-in flash memory called ResidentFlash. What we've done is we've hard-coded the path to this ResidentFlash in the program, and you can select where you want your Outlook data -- either in the internal memory, the storage card (if one is available), or in the ResidentFlash (which won't be available on the Magician). This means that it should be possible to use the storage card, but you'll still see the ResidentFlash option, which won't work. If you install this on any device other than an MPx, do NOT select ResidentFlash. We might update the control panel applet to remove the ResidentFlash option when it's not available.
Please send mail to [email protected] if you have any questions.
Enjoy,
-- Eldad.
Just installed the patch on the magician and it works very well. Right after changing the location of the mails, i just put my whole exchange box on my device !! Now i always have everything with me, thanks for this patch guys !!
thanks for the patch........ works great on my imate jam and love it...... another idea can you make a patch to move the SMS messages to the storage card?! it would be great if it you could....
thank you again
Was just about to ask if there was a hack a registry tweak for this when this patch arrived.
Unfortunately, I can't get it to work on my MDA. After transferring all my emails from internal memory to the storage card, I can no longer read the body of the message. The email still appears in my inbox, but the text is missing.
Fortunately, I just re-transferrd all the emails from the storage card to the internal memoery and everything seems fine again.

I tried this on my O2 Mini (running Anansky's ROM with 27MB storage) and had the same problem. The emails appear in Inbox but the body is empty when i click on them. Moved the email back to Internal Memory and its ok again.
Anyway, it would be really nice if "Storage" is included as an option in addition to the existing "ResidentFlash, Internal Memory, Storage Card". Those using the 27MB storage can move the emails there.
Must soft-reset the device before relocating emails.
jian and patrickquek,
Did you make sure to soft-reset your devices after installing the patch? It sounds like the program was installed, but the device wasn't restarted -- that's exactly what would cause emails to appear blank.
We are preparing another version that uses the "Storage" folder instead of "ResidentFlash". That would work for HTC devices such as the Magician, Blue Angel, etc. This version should be available before the end of the week.

I am lost (
Guys, can you direct me how to move e-mail to storage card, please?
I installed the patch, however cannot find any interface to work with.
I have a JAM.
Thanking you in advance.
noviur,
When you click the Start button, go to Settings, and then click the System tab, do you see an item called "Outlook Storage"? That's where you can control your outlook storage settings. Please let me know if this item is not available on your device.
Thanks,
-- Eldad.
Thank you, ldoogy.
After checking System tab i could not find it mentioned below item, however I did installation to the Card instead of default location - that was the reason why it did not work.
I had to reinstall it and not it works as you said. So thank you and for sure moving SMS files would be really an asset

hi ldoogy,
Thanks for coming here and helping us out. Anyways I am having a couple of issues with the app. It seems like I am able to move existing emails from internal memory to storage card and vise versa but like the previous 2 posters above, the contents on the email is missing. The attachments are there but the body text of the email is not showing. Moving it back to internal memory clears that problem. Another issue I am having is that whenever I get a new email, the email is still default to internal memory instead of storage card. I made sure storage card was selected in the app and soft resets has performed. Maybe I misunderstand what the purpose of this app is. Is it app only intend to move existing emails and not new emails coming in? Thanks again for this app and all your help! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi All,
Looks like our patch only works on the MPx for now. We've now tested it in-house on a PDA2K and got the same results. The storage redirection mechanism just doesn't work on the HTC devices. We are currently working on a fix for this problem and will hopefully post it in the next few days. I would recommend that you refrain from installing this patch on any HTC devices until we have resolved these issues.
I will post a message once we have a version that works on HTC devices (I expect we'll have one version that will work for both Magician and Blue Angel).
Cheers,

The elgix outlook storage icon does appear in my system folder and it seems to have succeeded in moving my messages (took about 9 mins).
There is a (new?) directory on my card called messaging filled with *.mpb files. Am I correct in assuming that these are the message files and that the patch worked fine on my MDA Compact with T-mobile english rom ?
Many thanks,
Martin

Martin, you are correct that the .mpb files are the message files, but moving them is really just the first part of what the patch does. The real purpose of the patch is to redirect file requests from Outlook to the storage card. The problem that most people here seem to be having is that the redirection doesn't work, which results in all of their email messages showing up as empty when viewed from Outlook. For now the solution is to copy the messages back to the internal memory. We're currently trying to figure out why the redirection isn't working.

a little late now seeing that you have already established the cause of the problem, but yes, i did reset the device after instaling the patch!
Thanks for the feedback!

I also got the same problem of blank emails...
WARNING! BEWARE !!!
ldoogy , thanks for your response.
After running the patch everything seemed fine, but I then realised that I couldn't open outlook anymore.
Then tried a soft reset, but the machine wouod no longer reboot because it would hang with a message something like "autocheckrun or one of it's components can't be found. After a minute it would reboot again, and again.... Tried without memory inserted but didn't help.
Had to hard reset and restore a backup.
I'm running an ms exchange email account, could that have something to do with my issue?
Thanks,
Martin
problems overview
Interesting,
I did not have any of the above mentioned problems with my JAM. Everything was working fine, until..... I connected my JAM to my desktop for synchronization.... ActiveSync in JAM could not get initialized and I had to to HR.
So the patch is very useful, however better to wait for the one, specifically for JAM.
Hoping to see it soon
Thank you
I had the same Problems as thinksmart: after the softreset, my blue angel wasn't able to find bttrayicon or so. Needed to perform a hardreset and backup data. Kept me awake until four o clock in the morning...
Hi,
Hope someone can help me here - my O2 XDA Exec has been steadily getting slower and slower of late - been months since I installed anything new - takes several minutes to boot up...
Anyway decided to have a clear-out so deleted loads of messages, cleared out temp files, duplicate notifications etc. with Pocket Mechanic... then rebooted to see if my clean-up had helped.
It didn't - All the duplicate notifications came back - and so did all the text and MMS messages! I've tried 3 times now - even deleting everything in the deleted items folder - reboot and bang they're back again! What on earth is going on, and more importantly what can I do to sort it???
Thanks in advance!
Have you tried to delete them through active sync? when you explore your PDA? try that... just go to de folders you want and delete the files, like the files in the folder "Temp".
If you can not delete them... check the attributes of the file if they are read only.... otherwise you have the last resort to flash the same ROM or new ROM that you can find on this forum.
Have you check at settings/system/memory and see if you have enough free memory... have you tried at tab "running programs" and try to stop all... see if the pda gets noticable faster??
I can't try activesync until I get home from work...
According to the Memory utility I have:
9.28MB of free Storage Memory
24.07MB of free Program Memory
(I have 1.5GB free on my SD card but that's not really relevant)
There are no running programs listed in task manager.
What I don't understand is when I delete the messages - they vanish, same for the notification queue, so long as I don't reboot they're gone. Something during boot-up seems to be copying them back???
Try these... take your SD card out of your PDA... then delete the files you want... boot up without the SD Card and see if they are back.
Thought you might be on to something there... but nooooooooooooo :-(
Removed card, deleted, checked everything was deleted, rebooted (still without the SD card) and everything is back again! Bloody weird!
Cheers,
Steve
Okay.. hmmm.... which file explorer do you use? resco, standard file explorer of WM5.0 or total commander???
if you use other than the standard file explorer of WM5.0 try using that one... i have a feeling that you tried that one already...
For that last test without the SD card I was just deleting Text/MMS messages using the standard mail viewer software. Highlighting all messages, deleting them then emptying the Deleted Items folder...

How about the option in Text messages to clear all text messages? (Dont think it actually empties the deleted folder though - thats a manual process)
Remember reading that after creating a new email account, if the universal is soft reset within 5 minutes, then the account will not be saved. Perhaps the reverse is true in that you have to wait 5 minutes after deleting before resetting.

Give that man a cigar!
Deleted - waited 10 minutes (to be extra safe) and rebooted. Messages remained deleted. What an annoying "feature" - must have always been like that but I've never rebooted soon enough to notice!
Now to see if the same applies to the notification queue :?: EDIT: Yes it does!
Thanks,
Steve
Yeah there is an entry in the notifications queue, repllog or something like that, that fires every 5 minutes. Its purpose seems to be to write changes that you've made from cache RAM to the built-in flash storage memory, the idea is that it extends the life of the flash memory and probably the battery too.
So if you make changes to things like outlook and the notifications queue and then soft reset without waiting at least 5 minutes, then you will lose those changes. Really the OS should be saving those changes whenever you request a soft reset, a minor bug perhaps, but one that should be easy to solve with a third party app...
hey there,
i've had my MDA for over a year. don't have many apps installed other than what came with it. i don't take photos, video, or store any music. i've cleared the PIE cache, used memmaid to help solve other issues and my email accounts are empty. nothing seems to work. i can only clear up 1.5 mb.
i installed a new rom last year. when i ran backup to reinstall everything after the rom update, there is phantom email account. i can't find it anywhere, but the start up screen always tell me i have 17 unread emails. i click on it, and nothing. not sure how much memory that would clear up.
any suggestions on what files to erase? in /windows folders, the messaging folder has 35MB of stuff in it. can i kill this?
cheers,
whalien
Try using ClearTemp (http://mobile-sg.com/). If that doesn't work, it's probably a registry entry that needs to be cleared.
used memmaid...
hey there,
thanks for the post. i used memmaid. didn't clear up much. looks like cleartemp does the same thing for the most part. any thoughts on registry issue? i notice a ton of .dll files in the /windows folder. seems like there must be some redundancies.
thanks again,
whalien

Yes you can...that's where all your memory has gone. Delete by opening the message folder, select all/delete. As far as you being told you have unread messages on start-up means there is a program in your windows/start-up folder that needs to be deleted, also.
You say you have clear temp....check the box by Large Mail, it should show how many MBs of memory has been used. Click on Tools, clean. This should wipe out the 35MB without you going to the windows/messaging folder to delete.
Hi,
my problem is, that manila takes up to 100% of the CPU-load all the time. Everything is extremely laggy. It's hard to do anything on my phone.
After a time manila goes to 0% and then filesys.exe goes up to 100%.
This happens after the SD-Card Storage update from HTC.
I have hard-resetted the phone...but nothing changed...
Please help
//EDIT:
After 5 Minutes everything is normal. The problem appers only after a soft-reset...
No idea? The Problem is really getting on my nerves.
Get SKTools and check what is in the startup.
i believe its the twitter client, the issue has been there since the early dutty leo roms for the blackstone i tried, the lag dissapears when the posts update! its weird because when you do a manual update the little spinning update symbol stops after a few seconds but the posts don't appear for about 5 mins, again causing my device to lag!
Strange...the problem disappeared.
Anyway, thanks for your answers!
do you have multiple e-mail accounts set up with lots of e-mails? That happens to me, but only with GMail acc which I completely synced (and yes, attachments are on the microSD card)
Very good point! I got IMAP and about 2000 emails in my inbox...This could really be the problem. Thank you! (The problem appeared again right now...)
You was absolutely right. Moved all emails to another folder. Now everything is fine. I really thank you!

How do you move all emails to another folder.. eg. SD card..??
I moved the emails on my IMAP emailserver, not on the HD2.
Thing is that my problem is associated to GMail account, where I connected another 2 IMAP accounts, and I cannot move mails from one folder to another. I resolved mine by switching to GMail Mobile, via Web Browser. I lost the notifications about e-mails and automatic checking, but the phone isn't slow now at least..
I wonder why the email client sometimes downloads all the emails instead the emails of the last 3 days (which can be set in the settings).
Having same issue with Raphael/Win6.5/Touchflo 3d
Have two accounts hotmail and yahoo, each with only a few emails, do not use twitter, I watch it upon softboot and it runs manilla.exe all the way up, I too wonder what its doing, I like it, however it pretty much makes the phone useless, I dump it from SPB Shell 3.5.3 which is running much quicker these days.
It appears that new release of touchflow2 has a few memory leaks as it drains the batt hard with all that processor.
I am curious if its not the email, I only have 12 stocks to monitor, however I have a few facebook contacts, could it be choking on that?
Hi
I got my HD2 yeasterday flashed it to 1.66 before I even put a sim in it and its been working really well. O2 even sent me a phone I could flash from HTC's website.
One is is that after maybe 1 hour or 4 hours windows live mobile will fail to connnet to msn and pull down emails. Restarting the phone is the only fix.
I have unticked the proxy setting just for it to retick when I click OK. Everything else will work fine just WLM will stop working.
Any ideas why and how to fix it as it is a very helpful feature?
Same, WLM is just useless. It will crash after about an hour starting by "the wireless network is currently unavailable" even if it is, at which point it's impossible to force it to disconnect, to close it, and it will hang task managers that try to enumerate the running processes so no way to kill it. After several long minutes it will finally say "you've been disconnected" stops hanging everything and can be closed, but relaunching it and trying to reconnect will only give a "network is unavailable" popup straight away before it even tries to connect. Usually it will cause lockups to other programs too in its wake, forcing a reboot.
I'd really appreciate a solution or alternative. Slick crashes with memory errors, IMPlus only manages to connect to msn half the time even if other protocols always work... I just can't find any msn client that actually works.
hmmmm guess ill have to wait for an update to appear. Meanwhile im going to unsync my email and do hotmail via pop3/imap.
Please post which version of WLM you are using (or is it just the one with the stock rom?).
I`m using an updated version and it's working flawlessly here (although it had problems syncing in the beginning).
OK:
try this one
http://rapidshare.com/files/333732216/WindowsLive.PPC2005_arm.cab
or
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L4VOCVG1
ive tried the updated version from the market place and it still does it.
I have loaded your first link onto my phone and we shall see how it goes. I have noticed if i leave MSN signed in it seems to do stop syncing and when i sign out msn the email works again.
10.7.0061.0500.2000, which is cooked in the ROM i use (see below).
And they really could make longer version numbers...
OK, downoading yours now.
tried both of them and the fault still shows. I have created a post on the windows mobile forums which I hope MS will see and will get to the bottom of the issue.
Here is the post for those who wish to contribute: social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/5c420f13-001e-42d6-924c-7385b0274221/ <<< Copy and paiste into your browser as im not allowed to post links yet.
i have the EXACT same prob! my life wud be SO much better if this prob didnt exist. its so frustrating i cant stand it anymore!!! come on ive solved EVERY prob on xda-developers somebody MUST knw the answer
I met the exact same problem. So I have to find a 3rd party IM software Beejive IM.
But it's pretty strange that in WM system, we even can't use MSN.
Hope some one could fix the problem.

does the nudge feature work with mobile msn.or do i need to update the version.where can i get the latest version of wlm
I don't use this software, but have you attempted to edit the registry?
EG what is the proxy it defaults to?
Whenever I install a clean ROM, I *must* go in the registry to HKLM/Comms/ConnMgr/Providers/(something)/(something)/Proxy and clear the key - otherwise youtube NEVER works.
The reason behind this is because everytime you load youtube, Youtube assumed ^that proxy was the one you needed, so it copied the value to HKLM/Software/HTC/Youtube/ProxyName, and nothing worked.
I'm assuming similar behavior is happening here?
So my question is: WHAT proxy is it automatically using?
It can't be a proxy issue, because as mentioned msn works, just that it will "crash" after about 1hr of use, and only then won't connect anymore until the next soft reset.
Hi there!
Same problem with windows love here. At best the service is reasonable....most of the time its just not!
Anyway; instead of just complaining I want to make it better and try the new version in the supplied link above. There is a notification however about deleting the older version existig on the phone before installing the new version. Question: how to delete the old version?? It's not in the programlist...
Anyone?
It asks if you want to uninstall, just answer "yes" and it does (or does not, but who cares, it does install the new one afterwards )
The one in the link was the same I already had though, so no help. I'm using IM+ lite now. Not perfect, but at least it works.
HD2
Ok i dont know if this is anything to do with this thread but got a hd2 but msn doesnt work on wi-fi? does anyone know how to get this fixed? it only works on Data
Thanks
Has anyone found a solution for this yet?
Just wondering, why dont you use the default mail client on WM(setup the mail account) and for messenger, use parlingo? I too had my run with Windows live messenger failing me. I actually did what i've typed and became a happier man. Maybe you like to try that?
i use only exchange email sync and that works perfekt. Lets me have gmail on outlook exchange. But it sux that we cant use a microsoft product full out on a windows phone, makes no sense. All rom cookers seem to given up on msn messenger. But setting hotmail only to sync "as ithems arrive" works great.
Yeah I use Palringo but WLM has much better visuals, ah well I'll give up on it aswell.
