Hi Guys
Got a bit of a strange problem, I've got an XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Polaris) in which I have recently flashed with 3kostas244 rom. The rom is fine and works great on the device, however, my touchscreen has recently stopped responding and I have a password on the device, because of this I can't pair it to my pc through activesync. I think the screen may be related to a software problem but I'm unable to put the device into boot loader mode so that I can reflash it. Since I updated the Hard SPL to SPL-V2, the hard reset no longer works.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I could reflash this?
All the best.
Try MyMobiler
You don't have to pair the device ... you just need an activesync conection.
http://mymobiler.com/
It's like a remote controll to you Orbit2.
You can controll it with you rpc mouse and keyboard.
good luck

Heya, I did consider that, however I'm unable I need to have a connection to activsyn to get the client installed on the phone, which it won't :-( think I might be at a loss this one, but thanks anyway.

When My Mobiler picks up a Winmo device, it installs auto
yeah it does normally unless you have a password lock on the screen, by which point you need to unlock it so it can talk to activesync, seeing as the screen is broken because of software, thats a no go.

try this:
press and hold the camera button and reset with stylus
now you are in bootloader mode (3colour mode) plug usb cable on and reflash the rom you want

WHY DOSN'T Activesync work?????
I can put up with Activesync not working under VPC on my Mac but I CANNOT put up with it not Activesyncing with a brand new 2 month old IBM laptop running XP Pro and all the latest patches.
Is it the phone that is at fault or Microsoft or a combination?????
My old PDA2K Activesyncs fine on BOTH VPC and the IBM so why not this device?
Anyone PLEASE HELP ME.......
Robin
Are you using ActiveSync v.4.1?
If it is a Windows Mobile 5 device (Wizard, Universal) instead of a Windows Mobile 2003SE Device, you need a minimum version 4.1 of ActiveSync
Yup it is a Wizard and I am using AS 4.1.
I have tried Firewall on, off, VPN on, off.
I have de-installed and re-installed 4.1.
Still NOTHING.
The Laptop see's new hardware, says it has installed okay and then AS does NOTHING.!!!!!!!!
Robin
in my case it was the firewall
you sure both your windows and software firewall is off?
also check in network connections that your phone network connection is connected
what happens in activesync... errors? does it display its trying to sync ? just "it is not syncing" doesnt help
If the laptop sees the device as new hardware and not the actual device it means that you do not have active Synch 4.1 or that the installation was borked . because 4.1 includes the drivers for this phone to be recognized by windows.. so if you had 4.1 it would show your phone name and then it might not have worked , but not the way you are describing it now.
Also you might wanna put up a bit more objective title when posting something like this if you want psotive feedback instead of flamez...
very good point avocaz
totally missed the point that it does detect but possibly does not install which would be down the active sync 4.1 not being there

1. Certainly I turned off the Windows Firewall, don't know about any other Firewall. HOWEVER the fact my PDA2K can connect surely rules out a Firewall problem?
2. Don't know how to do this? I am a Mac user and am using XP JUST to sync my phone.
3. Nothing happens in Activesync. I get the normal, bing bong chime. but the AS icon does not turn green or open.
If I manually open AS and tellit to cennect it cannot find an attached PDA.
On the other hand if I attach my PDA2K I get the bing bong, the icon turns green, AS opens fine.
Is that clearer?
Is there any more info you need?

But surely the fact that when I connect my PDA2K AS 4.1 opens and works indicates it IS there and working?
If I check its version it says 4.1?
AS 4.1 is the first instal of AS on this machine, never had an earlier version on it.
Sorry about the title but I guessed I would at least get some response with it.
I am pulling my hair out here and don't want to return the phone but without a computer connection it is totally useless to me.
Robin
Its not your desktop. Its the AS client on the device itself that causes these problems. Apparently, the next ROM Update is supposed to fix all AS issues. Just hold on till mid-Jan.

Sounds reasonable HOWEVER if I cannot get the damn thing to connect to a PC I am never going to be able to laod the new rom to fix the problem it won't connect to a pc, so I won't be able to connect ot a PC ...........
I am losing it big time...
How would I install the update without a PC connection?
Robin
Use the wifi to download the rom ? Sorry your having problems but this phone definately doesnt stink. Havent put mine down since Christmas day .... the wife is definately not pleased. She keeps giving it daggers
Okay
My FIRST bit of success.
I found out my laptop has a IRD port and the phone HAS connected via this so it is most certainly a USB issue.
Now the question is can a rom update be done of IRD or does it need to be the USB connection?
Robin
PS WiFI download would not help as the rom needs to be loaded FROM a PC.
Just a thought, but are you connecting via a usb hub?
Best not to, and I find always using the same usb socket also helps...

DO NOT INSTALL ROM UPDATE VIA IR.
It should be done via USB ONLY. Thats one of the main instructions in the ROM update page that pops up on executing the RU file.
I had problems because of the ports. AS4.X needs a hand full of ports to communicate with the PPC, in my case TCP Port 990 was already in use.

HOw do I check this, I am not very PC Literate.
I am much more used to a Mac where things normally 'just work' :?
I have just noticed a couple of things following some of the Microsoft trouble shooting guide.
If I have AS open on the KJAM it shows the spinning green button and that it is trying to connect, still nothing on the PC end.
HOWEVER what I did notice on the PC end in Device Manager is that a Windows mobile-based device appears under netowrk connectors.
So SOME KIND of connection IS happening.
Robin
PS Many thanks for being a sounding board for me and your helpful ideas, it is very much appreciated, I just wish I was making more progress.
Let me set the record straight.
This phone does NOT stink. The more I use it the more I like it.
Certainly it is a big improvement over my PDA2K in size and usability.
HOWEVER I still cannot get it to connect to my laptop and I am getting so frustrated cause its the last thing left for me before I really start to LIKE this phone..............
Any more ideas out there because I have tried everything I can think of with no luck at all except via IRDA.

hi forum...
I have an imate JJ & have been using it for 3 months now..
all of a sudden it refuses to synchronize with my laptop.
I tried the following but didn't wrk:
1) deleting the existing partnership.
2) uninstalling & reinstalling activesync.
3) tried installing both activesyncs( the one which came along in the cd & the one we have on our ftp).
4) hard resetted my device.
none of the above have solved the problem. my pc does recognize the ppc as a lan connection as it should. the activesync green icon in the taskbar also goes green && starts rotating, but it just keeps saying "Connecting" but never actually connects..
Please Help Me..
Thanx,

Hey,
Pune huh? Which part of Pune? I used to stay in Wanowrie Was a student at BVP Medical University.
Anyhoo, when you reinstall AS, make sure its on a drive different from the original install. Also make sure your firewall's are disabled (even the native SP2 firewall).
Hopefully, it should sync properly now. Let us know if it doesn't and we'll help you sort it out
Cheers.
Did you clear the notifications or something? If you used pocket mechanic or the like and delete one of them AS don't (& won't) work until you HR again, afaik.
Joe
that is correct. you can verify it by manually starting repllog on the PDA while ActiveSync tries to connect

I screwed up my AS on my JasJar doing some foolish & ignorant cleaning with ScareyBear's CheckNotifications, but was able to re-enable AS using this tool (no hard reset needed)!

I tried syncing after disabling the firewall of XP SP2 but it didn't help...
what else can be done?
Syncing through bluetooth is not an option as my laptop has a builtin bt with toshiba drivers which doesn't allow me to sync. && i'd rather not overwrite the toshiba stack with the widcomm... don't wanna add a prob to my laptop to remove one from my ppc...
is there any foolproof way of getting back at syncing thru usb?
pls help

I solved the problem by connecting ppc to a laptop usb, then connected back to my main macine and bingo

Guys...
Activesync still not happening...
Pls help
When I got this problem, it was due to synchronising something it didnt want to sync, namely favourites and web pages. Try changing your sync settings to say just contacts, then just calendar, then just tasks etc... and work down the list until you identify the problem.
I would guess its your favourites.
let me know, and we will commence a fact find and test process for alternatives 1 by 1.
Activesync problem
Open Activsync but Don't turn your XDA EXEC on before you plug in the USB. Let acivsync turn the device on then give it a minute to find the changes. Hope this helps.

Did you try installing the tool I linked to above? I've attached it to this post, it helped me restore AS when I somehow deleted it off my device.
I sync via bluetooth since i had those problems as well, and NO problems since then. Moreover, using BT is much much faster, at least for me.
recommend.
gotta love it when you try to help, offer multiple suggestions to some dude pleading for assistance multiple times, then get zero feedback as to the effectiveness of the fix (s) offered.
hey "morphosin" what was the outcome, all fixed?

Sorry for the late reply dude...
I tried all possible solutions including your last given solution of trying to remove favorites... The problem is that On a fresh install of activesync, it doesnt even take me t the window where i choose my syncing options. It just keeps going green & round & says connecting. I manually tried to go to options through the menubar but everything except help is grey(disabled).
As for alnwick's suggestion.. I always have been doing that. Even on my Himalaya when i had Magneto, i used to switch off the device & let activesync wake it up.. It always helped but not in this condition... Dunno why... Its really sad that two M$ OS have so muchanimosity between em...
Is there any other solution that strikes u guys?
Hey Simon.. Really sorry buddy... I do appreciate all your guys help ALOTTTT... only problem is that my work hasnt been allowing me to be regular for last couple of days...

PS : Problem not solved as yet
Hi,
I have the same problem with my Exec too. However it doesn't happen so often. Probably once in every 10 successful sync. I always managed to fix it using the "old-fashion" manner.
1. Unplug your USB from your Exec
2. Reset your computer
3. Plug it in again once your computer has finish booting the OS.
It is pretty basic and I guess that you have already tried it yet. It works for me all the time when I do so. Sometimes I wonder whether could it be the USB connector on the Exec that is faulty or my computer USB port or the cable.
Hope your Exec will be up and running properly again.
Regards,
Johnnie

Hey Johnnie...
Thanx alot for the suggestion buddy.. Unfortunately, i tried that long time ago... Also, in my case atleast it cannot be the h/w (USB Connectors on ppc or pc or the cable) as i used to sync absolutely fine with 100% hitrate. Infact, every time u have a problem try this buddy :
1) Go to task manager of ur ppc & turn off everything.
2) Switch off ur exec.
3) Attach cable & allow the activesync to wake up your device.
It might increase your hitrate.
For all the other kind souls here...
I am attaching a snapshot of how my activesync window looks while it is trying to connect.
Thanx All

I have similar problem: Activesync tries to connect and after some time it says, it could not connect.
When I make a reset with the reset button, it works again for some time.
hmmm, what could it be?
Hi,
today i found a new problem which alarmed me a bit. For all these days, I have been syncing my qtek9100 with my laptop using activesync bluetooth partnership. Everything worked great all the time - no issues.
today i just tried using the usb cable to sync. I can see that the moment I connect the cable to the phone, activesync recognises the phone and presents the authentication window and then later connects me to the phone. Great till here. But then, the pc activesync window shows "Looking for changes.." for a brief moment and then shows "Syncronizing.." and gets stuckup. On the qtek side, all I see is "Connecting" and thats it. I tried to be patient but nothing happens at all.
Interesting thing is that, with this USB cable connection the Tools->Add Remove programs and Tools->Explore Pocket PC work absolutely fine. I could install a software too, successfully.
Can someone tell me if I am missing some steps coz of which it doesnt sync when on usb connection ?
Very important concern is that, if I want to upgrade the ROM I need to establish PC<->qtek connection via usb. Since I am able to explore or install software when on usb, is it safe to go ahead with upgrading process ? (the fact that i am not able to sync using usb makes me feel my partnership is not setup properly enough for me to start the upgrade)
Can anybody guide me through this ?

I have the same problem with my brand new Qtek9100 (I received it just today). I think it's just a bug in the ROM (I am using the latest stable from the XDA FTP). I don't think there is much we can do, to be honest. My ActiveSync doesn't have such problems with any of my other 6 PDAs.
Firewalls?
Guys, are you sure it's not a software firewall ? I had the same problem. Even opened up the firewall completely and it wouldn't work. If I exit the SW firewall, it works perfectly.
Hope that helps, DBo.

Oh !!, well thats something I need to check out. When I go bck home today, let me check it. I dont have any other firewall software installed other then the one which came with windows xp sp2.
By the way, I just let the activesync run the whole night just see what happens, and in the morning, I was presented with this error.
0x80072ee2
The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary network conditions. This condition is generally temporary. Try to sync again later.

Let me see what more I can dig into. But with this situation, is it safe to upgrade the ROM ? I mean can I assume that my activesync partnership via usb is working properly and its just a sync issue ?

I have a MDA Compact (magician) (ignore the signature at the bottom of the page.. this is my spare phone) and for some reason I cannot get active sync on it working..
I plug in the USB cable and the phone will charge.. but thats it. wont connect... i thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the cable, so i connected the phone via bluetooth to the laptop and still activesync wont connect..
The phone is runing windows mobile 2003 second edition Version 4.21.1088 (build 15159.2.6.4)
I've cold booted the phone so its clean.. and still nothing. I thought i might have needed to upgrade something on there.. but i havent been able to find anything and also the phone cant connect to activesync to install anything..
Does anyone have any suggestions that might help..
thanks
If you're using ver 4.5 of activesync, drop it and use 4.2 instead, 4.5 has issues with non-WM5 PPCs.
no joy

This maybe a long shot but im suspecting that you may have accidentally deleted repllog.exe, are you using cleaning softwares? anyway try to use SKTools "recreate activesync" function under notifications Queue menu. If all still fails, a hard reset may have to be resorted to.

Question
Are you using sync by GPRS to Exchange? I'm using it and I can't sync by USB, however other PDA in my office which was not updated its ROM, works fine.

no.. i havent been trying to sync via gprs.. i have just been trying to connect via active sync to windows xp.. and its the original rom that came with the mda when it was bought.. its never been updated. thats what i wanted to do...
i even was going to try updating the rom from an SD card but couldnt find a big storage rom..
I broke my phone recently and the touch screen is no longer working. I was wondering if there was a way to control my phone via PC w/o active sync. Or if there was a way to enable active sync on my phone some other way as I'm not able to control my phone.
You don't need to activate ActiveSync on the phone - it just runs.
If it doesn't connect via ActiveSync when you connect it to the PC then you may be out of luck, but it's likely to be your PC that has an issue, not your phone.
As of right now when pluuged in via usb my phone is recognized as a storage drive instead. And it gives me the option for active sync but I'm not able to change it.
Ah right - it's set to default to USB on your phone then. That's a bugger, as you can't change it without using the screen.
You could flash another ROM, which would then have ActiveSync as the default USB connection type, but you would obviously lose all your data and apps.
You're obviously gonna have to get the phone fixed or replaced in the long-run. Is that out of the question at the minute?
I'm definitely going to have the phone repaired some time soon but money is a little tight at the moment being a college student etc.
But about running a new rom... are you for certain that active sync will be set as default is a new rom is installed?
I'm willing to test that out
Yes mate. It's the 1st in the list and is selected by default. It pops up the dialog asking how you want to use the USB connection and uses the selected one after a few seconds.
It will definitely allow you to use MyPhoner, or similar.
I see okay perfect! However, wouldn't installing a new ROM need me to be connected through active sync? Haha
No when u first boot press the volume down (aside button but down) it will let u boot into bootloader then happily flash , use steve0007 rom best one...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
As tarekkkkk said, hold down the volume down button when you turn the phone on and it will go into bootloader mode. You should be able to install a new ROM from there.
Perfection! Thank you so much, i was able to install a new rom and make it auto boot into Android. Now I can just use droidexplorer to control my phone! Appreciate the help!
