Wired Tethering Issue - Rebooting N1 - Nexus One General

Background:
My N1 is rooted running the new ERE27 update. I used this process to (edit: not allowed to post URL links) thread titled "Root the Nexus one Tutorial Updated to include ERE27 Update" to root.
I have installed the CorCAL.apk and CorGAL.apk.
I installed wired_tether_1_1.apk from code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether to get the wired tethering working.
Problem:
Every time I use the wired tethering the phone reboots during tethering. It happens at different time intervals once I start tethering.
Question:
Is there a solution to the rebooting problem?
I have read through tons of threads and web posting and have not found a solution that works. I would like to use wired opposed to wireless so the N1 stays charged and I don’t have to worry about wireless security.
Thanks in advanced for the assistance.
Aaron

Is no one else having this issue with wired tethering?
I know it was referenced in a thread on the Nexus One Android Development board but that was on ERE79. I can’t add a link to it (not allowed) but it in a thread called “[N1 Addon] Nexus One Addon 0.1 - Makin' Bacon [01/08/2010]” on the 18th page they start talking about it.

Wireless Tether

Has anyone had any luck with any root wireless tether applications? So far I can not get it to work, even following the directions on the goodle code site for wireless-tether 2.01 about the EVO.
They have an experimental 2.0.2-pre13 version that I managed to get working following the thread on the google code site. Have you tried that out?
Thank you! Its working now. Posting this from my tethered iPad...

I don't know about you, but I still can't get wifi tether to work, even with the experimental version. It connects, I'm asked for my passphrase (which I correctly input), but still no internet access.

im sure root is required...yes yes??
will this tether at 4g speeds?
can someone link to the page? Thanks!
can someone post step by step on how to do this? btw best buy updated my phone. please help me.
Here is the site: code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=362
The instuctions to follow begins at around comment 25.
The gist of it is that you have to set a static IP with gateway and the works, then, from the phone, ping the tethered device.
As for speeds, I'm pretty sure whatever connect you're currently getting on the phone will also apply to the tethered device.
I don't understand what root tethering is? I don't have this phone yet but I heard wireless hotspot is already built into the phone. Once you root the phone, does the builtin hotspot app disappear? Thanks.

You have to pay $30/month to use the built-in hotspot feature. With root access, we are able to create and use our own hotspot for tethering. Rooting the phone doesn't affect the built-in hotspot app.
Thanks for the quick reply. Its good having options out there to tether without having to pay the extra 30 bucks a month.
Has anyone been successful at rooting the phone and updating to Froyo 2.2? I heard 2.2 has its own built-in hotspot app. Is there a tethering charge to use the built-in hotspot on version 2.2? Thanks.
They have Froyo on the Evo right but there are still bugs with it I think
On a side note, we have both our Evo's rooted and using WiFi Tethering just fine as of last night.

android-wifi-tether not working

I cant get wifi-tether to work I rooted and super user asked for permission i said yes but its not showing up on my laptop under wireless networks.Any one else have this problem or no a fix??
I thought mine worked because it opened and started working but it doesn't show up on my pc either. I have windows 7 64bit. Wont work on XP either
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
same so hopefully there's a fix
Damn, so that's the story. So the people that reported it working just started it up and never actually checked if it does work or not. That's disappointing. Which version of wifi tether application are you people using? I've read one person reporting that 2.0.1 works and one saying that 2.0.2 does not. Please report your finding with version numbers in case it does matter.
2.0.2-pre9 here. it says its working fine but nothing shows up for me.
You need a modified kernel with iptables support. I'm sure someone will roll a modified kernel soon, since Samsung is open sourcing everything.
same here, installs fine, runs ( in terms of starting/stopping tethering) but in the logs theres a bunch of stuff that fails, and no devices can see the ssid (default is AndroidTether). I guess we just wait for modified kernels as danguy mentioned
Banacle wifi seems to work
For a little while...
The my touch slide had a similar issue initially. It needed a different version of the wifi tether app. Version 2.0.5pre3. Hopefully a specific version will work on the Vibrant as well when someone finds it.
Here is the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708266
EDIT: Similar issue on the Legend and it was resolved by communicating with the program devs. They needed 2.0.2pre10.

Seeing as android-wifi-tether is iffy as of right now, I tried out Barnacle Wifi Tether in the market. Works!!! I was surfing the net on my laptop tethered to 'barnacle'. Downside was I was only on G as that's what I get in parts of my house. But there you go.
Odd note: After disconnecting, I was unable to re-connect to my home wireless. Ended up doing a system restore to yesterday. Not sure why that happened though. So....there's my DISCLAIMER.
yup same thing here it files the log as not being able to set the mhz and some other stuff...
even after i change the band it stills says the same thing..
I have always found android wifi tether 1.6 to be the most reliable. You guys could possibly try that version while waiting for a fix on the 2.0.2.
1.6 doesn't work
gahh the log
Looked into my log and it says I have an unsupported device - moving down to 2.01 and I'll report back
As said several posts earlier, barnacle works fine. Android-wifi-tether requires a custom kernal with iptables support enabled. Quote from wifi-tether's web page.
This application requires a "rooted"-device and a custom-kernel which supports netfilter (iptables)! Please see the FAQ for detailed information.

I tried Barnacle Tether briefly with my iPad and it worked for browsing. However when I tried running the speedtest app on the iPad, Barnacle returned an error stating that entity was too large. Maybe it is fine for browsing but not for larger downloads? I will test with a PC later. Have not tried any of the android wifi tether versions yet but I suspect at this point that they won't work until a newer version gets released that addresses Vibrant issues or until we see a modified kernel with ipTables.
Update
Just an update from my earlier post, I rooted my Vibrant and haven't have time to do anything else, however none of the android tethers that are on the code.google page work on my phone. I also tried barnacle and another wifi tether off the market and those didn't work either. So - haven't tried pda net yet, but as of now I'm declaring the known wifi tether apps to not work on the Samsung Vibrant.
But Please, Prove me wrong!!!
I haven't tried it yet but how is this guy able to:
root his phone: http://samsungvibranthacks.com/samsung-vibrant-hacks/how-to-root-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s/
then,
install a working wifi tether: http://samsungvibranthacks.com/sams...n-your-samsung-vibrant-into-a-mobile-hotspot/
I was about to try until I saw this thread...

[Q] Trying to reverse tether, stuck at PPP.

Hi,
I'm not sure whether it's good thing to open one thread related to two problems but I haven't got better idea how to put it.
Main problem:
Since I have acquired my GT540 I'm still searching for the solution for reverse tethering. My operator doesn't have decent data plan, quite often I'm out of any wifi range and currently I'm completely out of wireless.
So I'm left with workable USB connection and Bluetooth. Which leads us to...
Secondary problem:
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835912 and solution proposed there is quite feasible to me as usbnet still seems to be song of the future and I'm using Linux on the host PC anyway. But when I tried to implement it, I learned that PPP is not enabled in my kernel, which understandably derailed my plan. I use CM7 by Mur4ik.
The question then is, can I somehow painlessly enable this PPP support?
Or could someone politely nudge Mur4ik to enable it in the next release of SwiftDroid? (I don't have sufficient rights to post in devel forum myself)
Or, is there another, working way of getting net access for my phone?
Cheers.
So, you don't have Wireless Adapter or WiFi to put on your desktop and share the internet?
I have tested to share the PC internet connection via USB to GT540 and i never did it...
I bought a WiFi AP and now I use the GT540 with Wireless on my entire house, i think its better than USB.
As I mentioned, sometimes I have wireless access but recently I'm stuck without. Besides, in this most recent cm7-m6 adhoc networking doesn't work either.
Yes, I think too that having wifi coverage in home is nice but the problem I stated is what to do WHEN you don't have it.

wifi tethering and Pdanet tablet

Hello I have in my rom Iconia A500 THOR V14.2 ANDROID ROM 3.2.1 works fine, I used wifi tethering with my tel. rom htc hd2 and HD2_NDT_GINGER_2.3.7_CM7.2_BASED_V35.0_MAGLDR and earlier and this too well, but with great battery consumption at tel. So PdaNet tablet discovered by BT to connect both perfect and very good speed and low power consumption.
The problem is that I tried to do the same with other rom in the Tel and nofunciona with any other, in some Wifi if I managed to connect but bt nowhere.
I can not access this configuration to the proxy and the true sense of megustan the HTC rom and now I can not use them for this.
I have read also in San Google and forums and I think it has something to do DHCP choking in Iconium.
Would greatly appreciate help in resolving this problem.
I'm not completely sure I understood you correctly, but here's what I think might help you:
Bluetooth is somewhat broken on this tab. I don't know if BT tethering works on any ROM... I never actually searched for it and it's not in the settings.
WiFi Tethering works just fine with most ROMs; Acer removed the menu entry, but not the necessary software, i. e. any "WiFi tethering widget" will work if you've got root. I'm not sure about non-rooted devices, though, as I rooted mine like 10 minutes after I got it... Also, most custom ROMs (even almost-stock ones) restore the menu entry, so you don't even need that.
EDIT: After re-reading your post I think the problem might just as well be with the kernel you use... Its source is (in violation of the GPL) not available, so I can't be sure of that.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10.1 and Wifi hotspots

I got a SGH-I337M (Canadian version of the S4) over the weekend, along with a Nexus 7 2013. On the S4 I installed the latest nightly of CM and everything so far works flawlessly (even the IR blaster!). My only problem is with the Wi-Fi Hotspot - I am trying to set up a hotspot using the S4, so that I can share it's internet connection with my Nexus 7 when on the go.
The wireless hotspot is created, and shows up in the list of wifi networks, and I even get an IP address when connecting to it. However, I get no internet access what-so-ever and I am confused as to what's going on.
Just in case it matters, this phone is from Rogers...
Anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm out of ideas!

Found another thread that advised trying to run:
ISWAT Tether Unlocker Free
I downloaded that from the play market, ran it and now it works! Once you've run it once you can remove the app from your device.
Tethering now works!
